Check when in an accident, there's a breaker that shuts off the fuel to prevent fuel spills and potential fires. It should be by the passenger kick panel. I worked for Toyota when that model came out.
Makes sense. Check this!!!
This
And check to see if the fuel pump fuse is good!
It’s called an inertia switch. Definitely could be the issue.
My thoughts exactly! He never checked to see if power is gettin to the pump. Simple fix, once its gettin power itll run, no worries. Then coolant squirt cam 🤣
Five years ago? Man, it feels like yesterday...
Definitely i remember the day Chris purchased that car like yesterday
foreal
@@sebastiencadet5367 so do I man.
Chris you look healthy man. Glad your recovery is goin good
22:22 got me rolling on the floor went from a 10 millimeter tool to a giant sword😭😂
Toyota's of this era only prime the fuel pump with crank signal present. Go to the square diagnosis port under bonnet. Bridge FP+ and E1 to force the pump to run. Also the JDM ecu is a non immobilizer system.
I really really like how you kind of went back to the classic b for build. More work more fab more time lapse. Awesome. Edit after watching it all. at the end you even said it... haha good luck on your race. :)
I was thinking the same thing and then he said it.. good to have the confirmation 🤙🏿
More humor too, I love it
Love the Classic B style. Getting back to the roots.
This was a brilliant video, almost back to the original style and Chris even had a beer at the end for good measure. It’s just like a fancier BRZ
Love how the door says "eat ass" 🤣🤣
The other side says "I❤️ big jugs". 😎👍
Honestly man, these kind of episodes are WAY more fun to watch then seeing you drop youtube money on cars that literally none of us can afford. I'm sure I speak for a lot of folks when I say that too. More affordable busted Supra vids, less 100,000+ dollar Lambo stuff.
Hahaha good point, pretty sure over 95% of youtubers have a lambo and few other top notch rides
None of us can afford a supra too... More than lambos nowadays!
Is it possible the inertial switch sensed the original accident and has the power cut to the fuel pump?
This.
So most toyotas for some reason they dont power the fuel pump when you turn the key on. you have to be cranking the engine for fuel to come out of the tank. its weird but how they work.
That car is way to old for a yaw sensor.
@@jordanslingluff287 no one is talking about a yaw sensor.
"That's a problem for five minutes from now."
That's how I live my life...
For the race car I'd honestly put the PTT on the steering wheel, so the driver can always keep their hands on the wheel.
So... At 10:58 the decals spell EAT ASS on the edge of the door... Coincidence? I don't think so... :D
Was wondering if anyone else noticed that 🤣
😂😂definitely intentional
Love the way you stuck on two of the decals on the driver's side. When you open the door, it says "Eat Ass." Classic Top Gear UK!
The fuel pump doesn’t come on until the engine is cranking on the MKIV Supras
same with miatas. but you can jump a pin in the diagnostic connector to trigger the FP.
All toyotas....
Extremely common for those plugs to break on all MKIVs, don't worry about it
The thing I love about you so much is that you are always game less talk more work and you explain everything I have learnt so much about the mechanical aspect and design aspect on automobiles from you. I’m extremely grateful for your videos
BisB4LetsGoBrandonWokeBullshit
Great vid man! Taking your time and explaining all the steps is the best!!
Could at least clean the engine bay first haha
And put a new air cleaner on with the cover plus i'm sure there is a MAF sensor :)
@@markplaton84 yes there is hidden under the dirt somewhere
I like how the race car door open reads “Eat Ass! I really hope Chelsea is that clever, as she was in charge of decals. My money is on yes!!! You guys are awesome. Stay healthy for me
That's old Top Gear antics. See way too many people just straight out copying what was done on that show.
"Portland has too many tweekers" Still laughing 🤣🤣🤣
This is the type of build that got me into the channel. I like it and have the same sentimental nostalgia for this gen Supra!
I remember trying to track down a possible fueling issue on my 90 Miata and couldn't get the fuel pump to prime. After a little research I found out it doesn't prime lol. It only turns on when the engine cranks which draws vacuum and opens the air flow meter at the intake. It's basically a simple MAF. They used it all the way til 93. I know nothing about 2J's but it sounds similar if it has no MAF
Yes a lot of Toyotas do this.
Correct. The 2JZ in my IS300 only turns on the pump when cranking. I took the starter fuse out and used this to empty the tank by just holding the key on.
Felt like an old school b is for build, love it! Good luck with the race!
Who remembers the days when fixing cars took place in the back yard how things have changed
Been here since the offroad Corvette kart
AWESOME, I've been waiting for THIS Build !
Chelsea is absolute legend for those saucy decals
scary how someone who supposedly knows about cars thinks the fuel pump won't prime (or make any noise) because its got no fuel, then still realising the fuel pump still isn't working so still keeps trying to start it any way
definitely the best channel on youtube. can't wait for more content on this!!
This is gonna be a cool build. You got this Chris.
Milwaukee tools, getting serious Chris!! You need the under bonnet light now too 👍 The Supra is awesome man, can't wait to see what you do with it.
Daddy Chris it’s summer time, where’s the boat?!!
Love this build. I couldn’t work on that thing so dirty. Lol. I know I can be crazy but drives me crazy!!! Glad your looking healthy bud.
The edge of the door from top to bottom at 11:00 😂
So hyped for this beauty 😍 I fell in love when u did the very first video of her when u first bought her before you sold her and then bought her back
Let's GO!!!! Been waiting for this build for years.
Love the old school feel of this video. Back to wrenching!!
Yo Chris, add some foam pads on the walls - it’ll help with the echo!
Love your positivity
Really interesting, enjoyed the vid 👍🏼
Hello Chris, make sure that the fuel pump in the tank works after turning the ignition switch. of course, before starting the engine. if there was no fuel it could corrode (rust). possibly the fuel pump relay.
Man that TT mustang was a throwback, I just remember it being a headache / you put the to the side because of the tuning issues
I worked for a pro TransAm team in the 80's and had a major cool suit malfunction.... (trans am was a blast back then and we raced against Paul Newman, Scott Pruitt, Willy T. Ribbs, and at the time Bruce Jenner among others). But the cool suit our driver was wearing eventually was circulating hot water through those tubes you see in the video. The water was hot enough to raise blisters in the pattern of the tubes over the driver's entire torso, leaving him with heat stroke at the end. The "cooler" was mounted too close to the transmission tunnel and over the 100 miles race, melted the ice and then heated the water. Careful where you place that cooler Chris!
Thank you as always
Nice to see you guys try it like us. Usually it never goes as planned and this aint no exception🤷♂️
Like this style of video
I love watching your videos of cars
haha, love how the edge door stickers on the mercedes spells "EAT ASS" when you open the door at 11:00 🤣
Check the fuel pump, its propably stacked or faulty.
We love old school B is for Build!
JDM are map only no maf sensor.
Also they have a low and high voltage fuel pump circuit. The control box for it is in the boot near the left shock tower under the plastic trims.
check out that fuel pump ecu. very common to bypass them on the sc300/400's
You’re looking healthy man! Glad to see you’re doing better
Hay Chris hope your good love the Chanel love race car stuff. Your the inspection in my life that most don’t understand lol.🤷🏻
I love what your stickers say when the door is open 😂😂😂😂
Randomly shortening an antenna used for transmitting may result in too high reflected power which will damage the transmitter. This may be gradual or sudden ending in total failure of the transmitter. Check the VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio) with a suitable meter and adjust the antenna until a suitable match is achieved.
I'm happy it doesn't start, which means we get episodes of diagnosing and actually wrenching. Tavarish take note! :)
What are going to do with the broken headlights on the Supra? I would be interested in the projectors.
Have a good one.
Also for the fuel level theory you are right. As an American living in Japan and recently shipping a car to the states for a friend they told us it has to be at a 1/4 tank or less when we dropped it off it’s also suppose to be completely clean like super clean inside and out it’s kinda a pain in the ass to ship a car as an American because we can only use one company (at least the military affiliated guys) so yeah that a little background on the shipping process
Everyone of mine on my 01 is300 with 2jz_ge... Not a turbo but same clips on the ignition coils. Was just roasted crumbling with and force. Ebay saved my wallet and the day with the fresh Chinese repops. Most new clips come with a decent length of pigtails.
Love it old school episode feel, more chris at the car !!
Some Toyotas have a circuit opening relay for the fuel pump. It’s like a mega relay that has a bunch of inputs. It will not run the fuel pump until the engine is cranking and making vacuum. Not sure if the Supra is the same but worth looking into.
Been waiting for this!!!!!!! Woooohooooooo!!!
I'll check the fuel pumb relay or in some cars called ecu imbolizer. If that dosent work i will trace the fuel pump wires at the pump and retrace it back and check for kill swithes under driver seat. Glove box. Under dash.
😂 you couldn't give the top of the engine bay a 10 second water spray to remove all that crap?
No sense cleaning it if she dont start😂
From my experience many old toyotas had this system of not actually priming fuel until the engine starts cranking. My friends '05 Camry had this 'issue'.
I love how when the drivers door is open it says eat ass on it!!!! 🤣😂🤣😂
In japan alot of garages put a small amount of fresh oil on new spark plug threads to stop them seezing in the cyclinder head. In the uk we use a small amount of copper grease.
@TommyFYeah is gonna have a field day with this one
Classic B is For Build right hereZ love it
It was involved in a crash. There may be a fuel cut off switch somewhere. Most modern cars have them.
drift stitching those plastics would look pretty nice on the benz
Brings me back to brz 2jz days 👍
GOOD TO SEE BACK TO UR OLD SELF BROTHER AFTER ALL THE B.S. U BEEN GOING THROUGH U HAVE THAT ENERGY WE CAME TO ENJOY FROM THE VERY BEING
Check your key out it looks like you have a standard metal one you should have a Mobilizer key
Good moods, nice.
Can’t believe I’ve been watching for so long!
You need to run the full antenna chris or you will fry the radio outputs you will have a high SWR … standing wave rashio you should be able to get a shorter antenna if needed it will just have a bigger coil at the bottom 👍
Was that a Polar seltzer I saw @ the end?? My man!!
Really really, super super nice job bruh
Some vehicles I’ve found don’t even prime, they just run the pump when the motor’s running. My Pajero io I recently rebuilt the motor in was the same, pump didn’t kick on whatsoever until cranking.
if you see this great but this isnt early efi days. the fuel pump turns on when cranking and or running. if it turns on with out cranking something is wrong with the circuit. on Toyotas its called a open circuit relay that triggers the pump. look into it when you get a chance.
Man , you are positive exept yours problems . I love your posivity . Sorry for my english 😃👍❤️😘
I like your "anti-tweaker self-defense sword". Lol I don't know if the Supra utilities the same safety system as my car does, but my fuel pump will not prime unless my foot has fully depressed the brake pedal. This system was used in a lot of Chrysler vehicles and DSM vehicles on the time frame. It was meant so that if you accidentally left the car in gear when shutting it off when you started it again you didn't lunge into stuff.
Nice sticker work on the side of the lemons Merc 🤔😜😂
Dude, clue; power wash your cars before working on them...way easier and CLEANER to work on.
You got this!!!!!!!
And the "I ❤️ Big Jugs" on the passenger side rear quarter!
Possibly a safety fuel cutoff that was tripped when it crashed. Reset that and it should let the pump prime.
Cheers!
I see the burntacon in the background is that beast done with tuning ? Haven’t see that thing since the drag-strip
Why not check the fuse for fuel pump or at least check if power goes to it when you turn the key ?
Another thing… with the crown my pump does not prime in the on position… once I crank it starts pumping I think this is a safety feature for it it is in a crash it turns the car off but the key would still be in the on position so they don’t let it prime because then if a fuel line was cracked it would spray fuel potentially causing a fire I’m not sure if this is the same on the Supra but I would say because they are both Toyota that may be the cause? Something people do is bypass that system. They run a relay that turns the pump on in the “on” position instead of using the factory system. Hope this helps
with old fuel, its the volatile parabens that evaporate away. making the fuel more calory dense, but harder to ignite.
it also showed 1/2 tank first time you keyed it on. so there is a 50 50 split of good and bad fuel there
Drain it at the tank fuel pump is on pulse same as my evo freaked me and my friend out too
I love how the wide body turned out on the Mercedes so simple but elegant.
I bet its a immobiliser on the fuel pump, if not check see if relay damaged or missing due to drainage for shipping. then fuel pump replacement after all that. my skylime came with no fuel pump relay
show us a how to super clean the engine bay and interior like auto salan spec clean!
Sounds like a Alarm thing that prevents it from starting. Is this your only key? I don't know for sure, but i believe there should be one with a transponder for lock and unlock and then shuts of the starting lock( startonderbreker in dutch)
