Another thing you'll see when buying 3rd party from an auction is that the 3rd party will buy said salvaged vehicle from the auction they will then do a quick cheap usually improper fix to make the vehicles damage/appearance look way better than it previously did and then that 3rd party will relist the vehicle on the same auction site a month or so later and the new potential buyer doesn't realize that the damage is as bad as it really is.
Many times just copying/pasting the vehicles vin in to Google and searching the photos you can see the vehicles damage from the first auction listing prior to the 3rd party buying the salvaged vehicle and doing a cheap improper fix just to relist it in an attempt to make money!
This was a great video, like you many of us have made mistakes buying a used car and even gotten scammed. This video had some great information, thanks for sharing. Diggin your channel by the way.
All it take to sell a turd is to polish it. People love buying polished turds!
Amazing amazing content. There's a few things I look for when purchasing a car and it's good to see some of those things align with a professional.
Saw a private party seller on Facebook marketplace, he was selling an old truck at a premium price. Someone had asked about taking it for an inspection from their mechanic. The seller absolutely refused saying and I quote "I am the mechanic."
I can't believe someone would think this would work.
@Mike Very interesting perspective, thanks for sharing it. What have been some of the biggest issues you’ve seen sellers try to hide from you?
Great video! The one thing I would add about salvaged cars is the long term expectations. I myself have owned a few salvaged cars and I would say that you need to know a good mechanic for repairs (outside of the typical oil change). In my experience going to an unknown mechanic or, even worse, a dealership can quickly turn into an ordeal. As soon as they figure out that it is a salvaged vehicle they start trying to figure out everything that is wrong with it rather than just trying to repair a specific issue.
Love your vids keep them coming
Dude. Bring the boat back….. by far the best vids 100%
I like this guys. Always good quality videos. Authentic guy. 1.55M subs. Well deserved. Well done Chris.

Very informative.Thanks for sharing
Great content!!
Great video chris!!!
Thanx for bestowing ur wisdom on us all good sir, this video is solid gold, so much good info
Although different, this was GREAT!
I used bid Master and bought my Lincoln being a body man obviously already knew everything you said but that was so cool of you to do this video just when I thought i couldn't like you anymore I can tell you It will help many people thank you
The part “hey let me drive your car to the mechanic to get inspected for 8hrs” lol 😆 never heard this one. Sorry man I don’t live in a upscale neighborhood.
for real, I don't trust like that.
I met a lady at her mechanic and watched while they put it on the lift. Luckily (I guess) he said it was perfect and she should buy it. I am cool with that, but no way am I letting someone take my car to get groceries etc. Lol.
its usually a really good sign that they're going to buy the car if they're going to spend the money on that inspection.
This can be a good test question if the car is in good condition. If they say no right a way to an inspection you should walk away.
This is an epic overview of the current market. Keep kicking ass.
Another great vid TJ 😂
A really informative video.
Great Share.
Note: Your now Compeating with dealers searching the private sellers.
Even though it’s a break from the builds- 1000% solid video! Def appreciate the tips.
Please tell me you guys are going to stop off in Omaha, Ne. Would love to add Kyle and Oscars autographs on my BifB banner!
Thanks, nice incite.
Thanks for the video! Currently looking for a car for my teenager. Seriously awesome video!
Great topic
Great video bro 😎
Thanks for the insight about buying a salvage vehicle
Can’t wait for the road trip seems like good times!!!
i agree with everything you say except that a x3 is a good used vehcile too buy. the 3.0 is kinda reliable but they are super expensive to keep on road if daily driving
Love this video
Totally agree with you on the problems with auction houses being too big now. The rest doesn't exactly fit reality with low income used car buyers. Its hard to spend extra money on inspections and brokers when you REALLY only have a small set amount of money. So the more they spend on all this extra stuff, the less the have for the actual car.
Maybe they should be looking at bus passes.
This is great. Love the transparency regarding buying via this medium. I've seen many get hosed with the sight unseen stuff, so its good to see someone with influence being real about it.
Great video Chris! What’s going on with the boat?!?!?!?
thank you for the video awesome
9:47 I tip my hat to you sir. That reference made me chuckle.
Agree with Craigslist. Got a 2010 Mazda CX-7 (AWD, the Touring model) off craigslist from a single owner for $1,200 (after taxes) because his torque converter was failing. The car had just a month prior had it's state inspection done and a brand new turbo installed. I did have to rip out the transmission (had new clutches put in while I was replacing the torque converter since the converter threw metal shavings everywhere). But for less then $3k it was all finished. Only things I did were changed all the fluids, new battery, and new spark plugs (didn't know the history of plugs so was being safe).
Any updates on the boat build? So ready to see it in the water again!
@Mike While it was dry-docked. Only Chris, amirite
Great video
I'm fortunate enough to have gone 2-2 on copart. If you need to do a full interior swaps and you dont care about the running conditions, you can find some absolute steals at auction.
Great video I live here in Gresham Oregon are there any auctions site's in the area that I can bid on a car that I would like to rebuild?
Definitely interested in the auction ones but ive never done. I think i'll look more into it.
The editing is so funny!
“see da dermatologist” 😂😂 I love your sense of humor
I always buy sight on seen, inspect thoroughly,it’s have service history and clean title 👌
Hey Chris u should do a video on the update or current status of Oscar’s mustang. Has he finished it, is it painted
I hope he hasn't painted it. I love the look of the patina on it.
I agree this!
it’s finished, he uses it when he feels like. The plan was never to paint it. My current fastback will get painted though
I really like that road trip idea
Hey may you drop the link for the EVs kickback link
Hey Chris, through Copart, how do you tell if the seller is an insurance company or a 3rd party seller? I used to be able to see this but I can’t seem to find that info anymore. Thanks.
Everyone remember when the monthly payment is cheaper the over all payment is normally more expensive because of interest. So look at end price not monthly payments and if you can pay more a month so there is less interest on the end vehicle price.
Can we get an update or video on what’s going on with B is for Boat?
Got a kick out of seeing TJ Hunts pic. Love all the car CZcamsrs coming together. Awesome educational video. You inspired me to buy cars off of Facebook/Craigslist. Last car I made double what I bought it for.
Leased a Kia Niro EV late last year, first time leasing and first time EV - there's a catch with leasing that they don't tell you, that $209/mo does NOT include fees and other charges, so your monthly payment will be higher. The deal for mine was $219/mo but my payment is actually $291, and they're all like that.
awesome!
Laughed way too hard at the secret Mustang reference.
Ty
most of my cars on my channel are under $600 project cars/ flip cars lol most i spent was on f150 that was 13k but joint buying with my cousin, and my mercedes eclass wagon mint for 2500. thanks for this advice too man
Please update the action buying process
Great video wish I had this video when I was 18 buying my first used car😂🙏
Looks like your driving through my city. Are you doing meet and greets?
Loved it
When are you letting cleetus send your lambo again? I want to see what they can do with it tuning wise..
Hello I am interested in taking this car from you. I mean can I take it for a 8 hour test drive?
Hey while you're in NJ any possibility to meet you and talk shop?
Would be cool if between you, Kyle, and Oscar you all did one of the three options. Buy an electric, buy from auction, and buy from private party. Would be really cool to see the different struggles one would face doing a cross country trip. Especially when factoring in charge times and locations needed for the EV. Overall great content between the builds and information you pass down. Thanks Chris!
Not a great idea as that would be a waste of time and money.
Go watch TFL
The problem with this is the sample size of *ONE*. Buying one car privately or from action doesnt actually reflect those markets in its entirety. You Maybe have great experiences buying from auctions and privately, At the same time there are many bad experiences from auctions and private sales and lets not forget car dealerships.. both official and used car dealerships. Experiences can be 50/50. Its not uncommon for even a legitimate car dealership to stiff you. Its just that the chances are slightly lower as the dealership carries the manufacturers name/brand so its there is a big consequence of bad PR if they try and scam/con you.
I mean with that said. Brokers can also be working hand in hand with dealerships to stiff you as well and youre paying the broker in the hopes that they wont do that as every company that wants to make money wants to be known as reliable and trustworthy to obtain your patronage and custom and even business if youre buying as part of a car business but dont have the time to go check the cars in person.
Not everyone you run into will try to scam you. Same for reverse scams too. Reverse scams are when you buy something, get buyers remorse or think you paid too much for something then you report them to the authorities or auction for selling something that is not as advertised or broken just so you can either get a full or partial refund --- Unfortunately human trash that do these reverse scams do exist.
Each encounter will be different but Chris is right saying if hire the services of a broker - the broker has more power as they are a bigger entity that does more business with the dealership/auction than you. And even in the case of a private seller. If a private seller stiffs the broker, then its obvious that the broker has a bigger war chest to go after that person and others that do the same thing.
Bad business and people are everywhere, that doesnt mean that every interaction you have will be a bad one.
Went to look at a US import Mustang with a mate, nothing about it being totaled in the US. Had too look more to find that info.
B is for "Butt" i'm dead chris
I am pretty sure the Pirelli edition Lamborghini Aventador Roadster at 12:30 is now pink, with wide body kit, and a white custom interior
My last two cars I bought for less than what the rolling chassis should be worth . A 95 Camaro for $2,000 , and a 2003 Ranger pickup for $2,000 . The ranger was definitely the better deal , it only had 160,000 km on the clock . And about a month and a half ago I had someone offer to pay me $2,000 for my bed cover . Had I taken that offer my Ranger would essentially be free . And the only vehicle I've ever bought from a dealership . It was used when I bought it , and after 5 years of driving it I sold it for more than I paid for it .
I bought a salvage car 5 years ago 2014 fiesta st , took my brother to look at it as he is a ford master techincian paid £5500 for it spent £1000 on fixing it and still driving it now
Hows the boat going
Hello, how can i contact you about the business cooperation?
In the UK dealers have to meet all sorts of consumer protection requirements so they will sell their lemons as 'private parties' rather than a dealer without the buyer knowing.
y que paso con el barco?
Bummer about that asteroid zone. I hadn't thought about that.
chris, anyone with any experience with BMW will tell you that an X3, especially that gen, is a HUGE nightmare. old acura MDX, old gmc yukon, old escalade, old cayennes (first gen), etc are all way better cheap luxury suv’s
edit: he already is buying the car. should’ve known, it’s chris after all
Yah, but look at it this way he will never runout of CZcams content with that car.
The old cayenne is sick
A huge nightmare is a bit exaggerated, I would say a major PITA....😁😁🤣
Im an idiot but can this information (especially the stuff for buying new) be carried over to motorcycles?
Ive heard buying cars and bikes can and often is 2 completely different things
Yo, Chris, have you thought of building a small car with a motorcycle engine for example a Mazda AZ-1 or a Tesla Roadster (1st Gen) with a Suzuki Hayabusa engine or a Ducati motorbike engine. It would be a interesting built to see you guys work on. Love seeing your guy's builds.
Like superfast matt
It's been over a month since I've seen anything built on B is for Build? What is happening?
Chris, I bought a Toyota Tacoma sr5 . FOR A 1$ PRICE..... IT IS BROKEN....THE FRAME IS ......THE TRUCK RUNS REALLY GOOD...... I AM WAITING ON THE FRAME....... WORTH TOO MUCH MONEY TO WAIT NOW...... GETTING RARE IN THE US ..... I LOVE THIS TRUCK..... Whatcha got for me? I waited 3 years for this truck...and has made MY MONEY BACK 100 TIMES OVER!
B is for Buy?
Good work on the video! The "tomorrow" part on new cars is a bit "untrue", in the current situation. I've "bought", or atleast orderd one. It's a 12-18 months deliverytime... :/
I need this
Please post the auction buying video please 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
so, what is going on with the boat?
I imagine a case of oil is mandatory for a trip with that X3 unless it's already had gaskets done. Speaking of, I need to go throw a fresh valve cover on mine...
Same for so many cars!
@@stephenthompson9722 Yeah but as a fan of BMW's I can say from my experience, they have a special way of marking their territory.
bro burlacher(stradman friend) is selling his suv. you should check it out
There is a reason most people call them stealerships. Good tip with the broker thing though, I'll look into that.
What happened to the boat
Buy vehicle. Then buy another matching vehicle from copart-private-auction for a large selection of cheap parts.
