      Lol Coronet Shop, no problem, have your fun😎👍! I wonder sometimes how much more popular the 4.9L Big Six would have been (in similar turbo mode) if sold by the factory back in the day. The 300 would have been as popular as Dodges Cummins option, & sold in much larger F-series
      truck platforms, with that much torque! Amazing!

    With a 1984 F150 300, T18 granny 4 speed and 3.08 axle ratio I once towed a two axle trailer with a 1986 E250 van on it with a bunch of sheet rock inside. Everything together was 11,000 pounds and it definitely felt like it. Another time I towed a 1983 F350 chassis cab dually that weighed 7,000 pounds. I used a huge home made tow bar that is around 8’ long and between 100 and 150 pounds itself. I don’t remember which 300 powered F150 I used to tow that F350. I owned around a dozen mostly 1981-1986 F150’s. All but one had the 300-6.

Seemed to be doing just fine, no complaints through out the whole trip from the engine, then again wouldn't expect any less from the mighty 300. On top of it, you're keeping in with the traditional styling/function.

      @@johnnysalami6338 Old school term for a 2nd transmission, or 3 extra gears. Before trucks were given a 2 speed rear option, big gassers had twin stick layouts, and while they're kinda like Spicer auxiliary, they were just a little different, and drivers gave it the knickname Brownie Box if I'm not mistaken. Typical rigs would be equipped with the "B.B." would be the F500 to F900 Big Jobs or the international UV549 Big Blocks. Some Fords got them, and GMC and Chevy Medium Dutys used Clark Transmissions instead. They made a smaller application, so if you wanted to, you can fit it in your half ton, ¾ ton, or 1 ton you could equip it. That being said, they're rare.
      TLDR: Here's the best example of a Brownie Box in action, on an actual F-250

      If you put a heavy flywheel in a stick. Works just fine. A wide ratio gearbox also helps a lot for pulling weight.
      If you put in a light flywheel is will go faster in a 1/4 mile. A close ratio is good for making a lot of left turns for going on circles. That also overheats the clutch & fly wheel when moving weight.

    Question here, would there be any glaring issues with what I have in mind for my project vehicle? I ask cuz I'm inspired to do some out-of-the-box thinking like you and make something awesome. :)
    I do plan on getting an old f100 and upgrading it with a shortened f350 frame with 4 wheel drive from a 2008 donor ford pickup, the biggest upgrades for me are running an air system for the semi airbags and the crown piece of it all will be the eaton rto-610 (or rto-6610) (10 speed manual transmission), weight wise it'll be no different than running an np203/205 doubler with the stock 4 speed tranny... except it will be only adding an extra 245 pounds (effectively).
    I would have the air system not only operate the transmission but also the air bag suspension for the front and rear, and to unlock the trailer brakes (as well as operate the trailer brakes in tandem with my project truck's existing brakes) with an air-to-hydraulic system. I do have a Class A license (not going to do hot-shotting but i will keep my license because I worked my arse off for it and I'm proud of it.) so legally speaking I'm in the clear.
    The airbrakes for the trailer as a security measure thing isn't my original idea because I am crediting Deboss Garage with his Ftreekitty (F350 CAT-powered truck with a converted Allison 1000 transmission with four wheel drive.) when he mentioned that he plans to run air to his trailer so that nobody can steal it.
    The way I see it, if a moron REALLY wants to steal my own custom gooseneck trailer, they better bring a frickin' air pump and an Airbrake endorsement on their license cuz it won't take 'em long to get pulled over by DOT lol. XD

    What are you running for ignition.....distributer, etc? Are you using the sniper to control the timing? Thanks for any details. Sweet rig!!

    • @WastedPaycheckGarage
      @WastedPaycheckGarage  Před 2 lety

      Running a locked out HEI distributor with MSD 6AL-2 box. Timing is independent of the sniper as of right now. It’s working fine so I’ll probably leave it that way

    I have a question, have you had any lean issues on cylinders 1 and 6 when changing spark plugs? Or a rich looking plug on the closer cylinders to the sniper EFI? I'm looking to do something like that but I have heard and read a lot of mixed things on them.

    • @WastedPaycheckGarage
      @WastedPaycheckGarage  Před měsícem +1

      I actually just changed the plugs a few weeks ago (went to a colder plug), and all 6 looked near perfect and identical to each other. The only issue I found was the heat line being all the way at the base of the grounding strap, hence the reason for going to a colder plug.

    Looked for your install on the Turbo for details and didn't see it? Do you have details you could share on turbo specs, pipe supplier etc? I have a 69 F100 with a 240 that is going to get swapped out for a 300.

    • @WastedPaycheckGarage

      The turbo is a VS racing 7875 billet wheel, most of the exhaust piping came from TruBendz.
      Check out this video is you haven’t, I go into a little more detail about the truck there, I built it a little over 2 years ago before I started this channel so I don’t have much footage of it

    What's mpgs? I want to buy a F-250 with a 300 and turbo it also. May put it a higher gear ratio(3.08) to fix mpg problem.

      Nope, I’m hoping to get it dyno’d and professionally tuned early this summer, it’s parked up for the winter now. I’m getting about 10mpg, but I just bought a ZF5 to swap in to hopefully help that number out

      It’s your lucky day brother, I’ve got a full detailed 5 speed swap on my channel followed by a towing video with it. Not much changed though, the gearing on the 5 speed is virtually the same as a 4 speed just with an overdriven 5th gear on top. The synchro setup sure makes it nicer to drive though

    I love a old bulldog 4 speed but imagine how that ole girl would pull if it had a trans that had better ratios to keep it in the power. Hum is gear vender still in business they made a splitter unit that allows you to split gears basically turned that into a bulldog 8 speed with overdrive

    These 300 CID inline 6 engines that Ford made, are real work-horse's... Coupled to a manual trans and a 4x4 chasis, this truck is probably going to fetch every-penny that was put into it, and then some when the time for selling it takes place, if that time should ever arise... One question, was that a diesel fuel pump to put fuel into it, or was that a gasoline nozzle , with a green shield instead of a red or black shield?

One rebuild on the trans about 350k. miles ago, still works fine... And the original 350 engine that has not been overhauled.... 470k. on that truck, still works fine... Rare to see a turbo 300, especially one being used like this. Think it woulda pulled it without the turbo though? My old OBS with the stock 300 can barely pull itself up to the speed limit, much less 12k pounds. Not that I've tried yet...
