Got a 93 f150 4.9, with 295 on her. Best car I've ever owned. It's basically a diesel engine that takes gas, I think that's the reason why these last so long.
Actually, its a modified tractor engine..always been a gas/kerosene engine..low compression, low stress, gear driven cam..not a lot to go wrong.. These go 250-350,000 miles easily if maintained
Thing is absolutely awesome, any chance we could get some new videos of it? I’d love to hear what the exhaust sounds like and how you have the turbo set up.
That's awesome, I found a 1961 F-100 Unibody with an I-6. I think a turbo EFI 300/4.9L I-6 would be great in it, with Crown Vic P71 suspension, rear axle, etc. I love Inline 6s!
I've read the thread. Do you have final steps that you took that you can write out and post? Would greatly appreciate it. Interested in doing something similar to my '91 300 i6
I would call this truck the “90s ecoboost” lol I fucking love this why pay 60+k for a turbo truck when you could pay not even a quarter of that and get a real mans 5 speed Manuel
Just a solid cross flow head would do, screw the injection. If you want boost just run a Predator Carburetor. 12.5:1 AFR and nothing to mess with for induction.
The direct injection doesn't add power really, just barely any mpg. Wish my 2.0 liter Ecoboost had port and direct injection, gonna add port injection eventually to get me over 400hp at the wheels
a slighly smaller hybrid turbo for the 5.0 mustang crowd would actually improve those numbers. its sitting with an impeller housing and all for an engine with 60cid more, and being diesel, more output of exhaust from each power cycle. still, you can live like that until you wanna drop 800 into a turbo and tinker time

@@michaelgrossman5059 you should add a turbo like this, you can find Cummins turbos on eBay for like $300, you might have to change some stuff around but it'd be a good upgrade
Mines a 96 with 5 speed. Put 3” exhaust and 70 series Flowmaster and 3:31 ring n pinion. It gets 17-23 mpg and 11-13 when towing a 5000 lb camper. 290,000 original miles. It’s flawless in performance. Why bother with any other mods. I’m 61 and have done muscle builds on 302’s and others. This is the best setup I have ever owned. Just got back from a 3 day camping trip. Pulled my 4,980 lb camper over some decent hills this time, , , , , , , , at 40 MPH ! I need to either turbo my 6, or do a 460 BB swap. I have a like new HX35 turbo sitting on my parts shelf I picked up for almost nothing a few years back. My truck is a 1994 Ext. Cab 2WD woth the E40D automatic and 3.08:1 rear gears. RUST FREE and (mostly) dent free and paid off!!! So I would really like to just keep going with the truck I have vs. buying a bigger truck. My question is: Do you think would be better off adding a turbo to mu 300 - 6, or go with a 460 big block swap. Should net about the same HP/TQ if my calculations are right. (at 7psi boost) Thanks for any "best guess" opinions!
@COYOTE ADVENTURES I would also recommend lowering your rear axle ratio.. and take advantage of all that torque the inline 6 produces.. if losing mpg is not an issues.. just my 2 cents
Just change you axle gearing to a lower ratio, or when you tow swap to smaller tires; poor man's underdrive...2WD you have plenty of options without over revving or putting your highway RPM's too high. Either way, when an engine has to work less your fuel economy is always better. I would swap the camshaft and possibly port the head and get bigger valves before going to boost personally, unless you already have a boatload of parts from other projects.
Where did you get the turbo kit for this I'm rebuilding my 4.9 right now and what did you do to it besides the turbo? Plz send me list of things to do while I have mine out.

Same firing order

What kind of gas mileage are you getting with the turbo in versus before the turbo?

How is your engine surviving that turbo?
Saul Jerez Too much boost combined with improper fueling will destroy it quickly.
Saul Jerez hence the reason for my question.
he has megasquirt on it. That and the 300 has forged internals stock and it will last as long as most of stock NA engines if he doesnt go to like 30psi. i think he has it set up at 8psi.
FWIW, I hope he upgraded the injectors. Injectors co0me close to maxing out on a NA 300 with a decent "tune." Stock, he'd be running lean under boost.
Tangled in traffic. Couldn't see much performance.
What transmission you got on it ?
Every time I tell someone that a inline six will provide more torque they tell me , I am crazy, 300 inline six or 302 v8,
I have both and have built both ! 300 6cyl in the right hands will smoke a 302 on low end torque
Imagine putting on a 4” turbo back and an 8” tip on here just to see if it would sound like a Cummins.
That's gay as fuck. Whoever came up with the gigantic exhaust tips should be scourged.
