Thank you for this info :)
Wouldn't that be mostly Southern African languages, like my own Nguni languages and the Khoisan languages.
Because from my understanding the moment you go further north to countries like Zambia, Malawi, and further, the click consonants slowly become less prominent till they disappear completely.

Khoisan phonology is something else
What's funnier is that it's not even the exclamation mark that gives the click sound, it's the x. Xhosa is one of the most difficult languages to learn for that reason.
For those wondering, clicks are actual, valid sounds existing in a lot of languages. The exclamation mark often represents a postalveolar click, whichbus a clicking sound made in the same place that you make the /k/ sound.
FYI, /k/ is a velar sound. Post alveolar is /t/, /d/, /n/, /r/, etc.

Please do not write your name with a "!" in it unless you want people to yell your name at you
''he has a CLICK in his name!'' got me dying
“He had a click in his name!!!” My reaction too
The "x" is the side tongue click
He did the "q" click
And there's a "c" click which is done by resting your tongue on the palate and pulling down (I hope this makes sense)
I'm confused about the Exclamation mark, and when he said Nqobile but spelt his name !xobile, but it was funny still😅😅😅
That's assuming this is Xhosa (which is fair, since it is by far the largest). But some languages have more than these three (like ǃXóõ which has 83 different clicks, or Juǀʼhoan which has 48)
it does! that was fun!
what is the placement of the q click specifically?
@@lolnothxyt The "q" click is called an alveolar click, meaning you place your tongue against the roof of your mouth (your alveolar ridge specifically) and pull down. The original comment got it wrong, as the "c" click is a dental click, made by placing your tongue against the back of your teeth and making a "tsk" sound. The "x" is a lateral click, meaning you place the side of your tongue against your teeth and inhale. I hope that clarifies a little bit!
But these are only for the Xhosa language. I would have to look more into the specific phonology of ǃXóõ and Juǀʼhoan to see how they make so many varying clicks. My first impression is that they may distinguish between tones (like Cantonese and Mandarin) or may make hard distinctions between nasalized and denasalized pronunciations (so a click may change meaning if pronounced with or without using the nose)
Personally, I’m South African and we see these kind of names often. It’s become a norm that people just know how to pronounce it, even if they don’t speak the language 😂
