      @@lolnothxyt The "q" click is called an alveolar click, meaning you place your tongue against the roof of your mouth (your alveolar ridge specifically) and pull down. The original comment got it wrong, as the "c" click is a dental click, made by placing your tongue against the back of your teeth and making a "tsk" sound. The "x" is a lateral click, meaning you place the side of your tongue against your teeth and inhale. I hope that clarifies a little bit!

    • @matthewshatto6787
      @matthewshatto6787 Před rokem +12

      But these are only for the Xhosa language. I would have to look more into the specific phonology of ǃXóõ and Juǀʼhoan to see how they make so many varying clicks. My first impression is that they may distinguish between tones (like Cantonese and Mandarin) or may make hard distinctions between nasalized and denasalized pronunciations (so a click may change meaning if pronounced with or without using the nose)

    That’s a dialect I wanna learn. There’s still many people who speak with clicks. There’s a village in the mountains in China I think. All they use is clicks. It’s very interesting.

    I once worked with two men from Nigeria. One was Otengapenteng. The other was Agbemehia.
    Everybody else called them "O" and "A.G.". I was the only one who looked at their names and even *TRIED* to pronounce them. All I did was sound it out- and I got it right the first time.
    African names are cool, honestly.

      A few years back I was in the same class as this guy called Oleoteng(no idea if I spelt that right). We just used to call him Ollie, lol. His name is easy to pronounce once you heard it, but seeing it for the first time is very confusing 😅
