The Lenovo Legion Go is one of the biggest Windows gaming-handheld that can very well be the best handheld around. But is it better than the ROG Ally and the Steam Deck OLED? With an AMD Z1 Extreme Processor (7840U), 16GB RAM at 7500MT/s, and up to 1TB of SSD, it can go toe to toe with the ROG Ally, but the Lenovo Legion Go has something up its sleeve that's better than the ROG Ally, but it also has its flaws. I’m just happy to see a PC handheld with removable controllers like the Switch, makes me hopeful that more handhelds take the plunge to do the same without fearing Nintendo coming at them because that’s one of my favorite features of the Switch personally though I need more power than the Switch offers (and Windows or SteamOS)
No for sure I’d still recommend the Legion Go if they wanted something different than a traditional handheld like the ROG Ally and Steam Deck.
I think this device is great, and adding third-party accessories(or official) makes it even better. However, I would love it if they could improve the Directional pad, which is currently subpar. It would also be great if there were options for battery replacement and M2 with up to 8TB of storage in the future. So, what do you think about it?
I occasionally going mobile, working from anywhere. A laptop is a bit too large to carry around. Do you think Legion Go would be a perfect fit for me? I like it since include a mouse and most importantly it's Windows.
I may need to bought a small wireless keyboard though.
Moreover, I believe it able to connect to monitor, isn't it?

Where I struggle is if this is best played on a desk with an external controller, and a mouse is better than FPS mode, everything says I should skip this and get a gaming laptop.
tbh, i own a legion go and i 100% agree with you. regardless of my own opinions, if he thinks the audio is garbage and doesn't like using the controllers i don't think this device is a good fit for him. recommending buying headphones a different controller immediately makes me think if you agree you should just buy a gaming laptop considering at this point it's just an underpowered pc with terrible battery life. side note: i love my legion go :).

Haha I’m not trashing it to promote a different controller. Even without the sponsor, first impressions, I don’t enjoy the side buttons on the right controller. I think the ROG Ally feels better and keeping it simple.

I dont get how everyone has problems with the 2k res. Sure you cant play Cyberpunk in 2k but idk who tf would have expected a handheld pc to run such a game in that resolution. I personally play games like Godfall (50 fps avg), Persona 5 royal (80-90 fps avg), Final fantasy 15 (45 fps avg), Marvels Midnight Suns (60 fps), and many more titles i would have never expected to run in 2k but honestly all RPGs except triple A titles like the witcher 3 with the next gen update or sum crazy should work in 2k. Usually it all comes down to finding the right sweetspots of settings to mess with. Obviously stuff like FSR can do wonders in godfall i have it set to Quality and i get a good consistant 50-60 fps in 2k for example. Same as Midnight Suns with it being on Quality i have a consistant 60 fps in low shadows everything else medium and high textures in 2k. Idk why i see so many people saying the 2k screen is overkill or unnessecary and you could only play indie titles thats such bs. I would choose this device over the Rog ally and the Deck (which the later i own aswell before you start hating) any time. Just because i can play so many of my favourite titles in 2k it makes the whole expierence a completely new one that is amazing to be able to have on the go (not talking about the device but rather the portability). And just because you cant play Cyberpunk or the witcher 3 (post next gen update) in 2k doesnt mean its unnessecary or useless.

Legion go by itself is heavy. But controllers are lightweight and feel hollow
16gb is cool, but i would love to see a 32gb model where you can set UMA to 8. Then see how much of a preformance difference there is.
Cpu useage for me is generally 30-40% in worse case scinerios. Im thinking theres a lot left on the table cornthat cpu to work a bit harder for more frames.
An odd question I know but is it just a windows computer can I use the legion go as a personal computer? I assumed so but you know about assumptions.
Yep absolutely just a windows computer. It’s Windows 11. You can connect it to an actual monitor, connect a keyboard and a mouse and use it as a normal PC and unplug and game on the go

How did you connect the Controller? I tried a PS4 Controller like on my Desktop Pc but it didn't work.
Need help, love the screen but want to play with a real Controller
My controller had a 2.4GHz dongle that I connected through my USB Hub and port. It worked out of the box. Steam was able to connect to my controller just fine afterwards.
If asus would shrink the bezels around the ally to make the screen over 7.5'' in an Ally2 ,it would be perfect for me.
I think if they slimmed down the bezels but keep the same form factor it'll be perfect, but also want bigger battery vs bigger screen.
I have le go at the middle right side is that a camera or a sensor? When i go to setting it prompt no camera output
It’s the light sensor for auto brightness.
Hey if you can please answer my question. I just order mines it’s not here yet what do I need to connect it to my tv and once I do that can I use a controller to basically use it like console sometimes?
You just need a USB-C dongle. The ones with an HDMI port and extra USB-A/C ports in there. Once you have that, just connect it to the Legion Go and you can connect your controller via Bluetooth, wired or 2.4GHz (if it comes with it), and you'll be set! Make sure to plug the power brick on the Legion Go so you have full power.

What Xbox games can you download? And are most Xbox games on windows anyway? Switch player here who has an Xbox one he used to play before Switch came out.
Looking for a new system that can run these games that are not on switch. Because I don’t have a gaming PC. This way I can stream these games. But also play in bed when needed. This way I can still stream from a handheld and stay on brand instead of suddenly, adding Xbox games to my Twitch lineup.

I wish I hadn't skimped out on shipping lol... I still have to wait 8 days for my legion go. I'm dyin over here. I got my daughter the m17 handheld emulator so that she isnt too jealous lol. Nothing fancy, but its dirt cheap and looks nearly identical to a switch lite, so im hoping it will at least make her feel like she got a big kid toy for christmas.
Ok Ally or the Legion go for my main games? Destiny 2, Diablo 4, Warzone and might jump into World of warcraft sgsin.

I would say Legion Go JUST IN CASE you want to use an eGPU by utilizing the thunderbolt 4 ports on the Legion Go and connect it to a bigger display + mouse + keyboard. But if you're on the go, I think you'll find the ROG Ally to be more comfortable for handheld gaming.

I would have paid more for VRR. I prefer non detachable controllers. I returned my Go and just decided to stick with my Ally. I really loved the screen size on the Go though. I have an Aya Neo Kun on order. Hopefully that can dethrone my Ally.
Yes the detachable controller is unnecessary at all including the fps mode, the grip should have been designed with better grip and comfort and not with weird back buttons situated randomly where your hand will be holding the device. Such a waste of a beautiful device.

Interesting. Mine is plugged in and it actually can do 30W properly. I'm using a 100W charger though, not the one that came with the Legion Go.

Nothing is wrong with the Legion Go controllers. They are made of plastic and are light but doesnt have a "hollow" feel. Having used the Legion Go, I understand what you mean, but "hollow" is definitely the wrong word to use. The button layout is not symmetrical between both controllers (which is a little bit of a bummer) BUT it is easy to get used to.

Funny how the two biggest complaints, controllers and speakers, were conveniently solved by MSI, a sponsor. Completely comprises the integrity of this review.
I mean where’s the lie though? Sponsor or not, it’s an issue. Controllers, sure they’re personal preferences but don’t give a company like Lenovo a pass on subpar speakers on a premium device.

Long lasting battery? Really? The battery life of the Legion Go really is not that great. They should have put a 74WH battery inside of the Legion Go instead.

What’s your thoughts about these handhelds (other than Steam Deck) not having a dedicated Xbox button? I had a ROG Ally for a while and it was one of the things that annoyed me. Also when docking it I couldn’t map my Xbox controller to the ROG Ally specific buttons. Is it the same on the Legion Go? Are you able to open legion space and adjust TDP etc when docked? It was one of my biggest reasons for selling the ROG Ally and keeping my Steam Deck.
I have a couple of other handhelds besides the "Big 3" here in the US. Not having a dedicated xbox button is meh, but luckily you can map on it the Ally (they've made some serious software updates on the Ally btw). Software on the Legion Go is trash right now so you can't custom map anything. Trying to access the quick settings in any of these handhelds docked is a pain, you'll have to manually touch the actual device which is a pain. I'm sure there's some windows app out there that can actually map certain functions to a controller but I haven't found that yet.

No no it’s not the controllers that are heavy. They’re light. The actual system is heavy. And the controller is quite… clunky where I find a normal controller is better.

That joycon is abyssmal looking, its so thick to be real comfy. I dont know what the deisgners at Lenovo is thinking but it can be solved with the release of better designed joycon either by lenovo or other private company. Those Chinese companies will not miss the opportunity to produce some nice joycon for it.
Big emphasis on Almost. Legion space is so useless and slow that it would take months to get to where armory crate is. An AC isn’t even that good. But at least AC actually loads your games unlike LS
I have the Legion Go since three days ago, and I use it in Balanced (GPU) and Power Saving (OS). Even when idle, the fans are with low coil whine noise...is that normal? All units are like that?
Huh. I haven’t noticed mine doing that. It’s blowing air for sure but no noticeable whine noise. Your hearing might be better than mine tho!

I'm so curious about this device. I travel alot around the world for work and live in hotels. I just got access to GFN ultimate and I like it a lot on my macbook pro m2 when I have good internet. I've yet to try it on a hotel wifi, but I doubt it will be a good experience, haha. That's why I'm looking into something like this. Where I'm not as reliant of a stable and fast internet connection. All I want is something I can easily play Rocket League and The Finals on. The only games i currently play. I'm very picky on FPS and need to have at least 120, maybe 100 is enough, but I've gotten used to xbox series x with my LG C2. So 60 fps etc feels so horrible in a fast reaction type of game :( Has anyone tested the two games i mentioned? How is the FPS if i set everything on low? I really care about performance and not so much how beautiful the games are. Atleast not those kinds of games 😅
Haven’t tried The Finals but can guarantee you if you play Rocket League in Low everything at 800P and your TDP is at 25W, you’ll easy get 120 frames haha

I'm baffled by this video... it's "almost perfect" except the sound sucks, so you really want headphones; the controllers suck, so you really want to use an external one; and the software is way worse than the ROG Ally. Not understanding why I'd want one, given all that.

This is false. I have a gaming rig, a Oled SD and the legion go. I bought the go specifically because the steam deck has trouble playing some games, has anti aliasing issues due to the resolution or simply can't play games without work arounds. I was playing bg3 and Act 3 on the deck is... it looks horrible and you really see the edges of what the SD is capable of. For indie games, it's great! But I do not only play indie games and I don't think that should be all you can play on your handheld.
@jayjth I've been playing gaurdians of the galaxy, wolfenstein 2, forza, control, arkham knight and dmc5 on the oled just fine. None of those are indies lol. The legion is a beast, but the deck is amazing for its price point.
@podkse I'm glad you are enjoying it! I wasn't as impressed. You certainly can play games on it and a lot of them look fantastic. For games where it struggles, it looks awful - that is my experience.

I just bought a Steam Deck OLED last week on Thursday and it arrived day before yesterday and already returning it. The OLED is garbage, you can't play much muliplayer games, most games aren't compatible and it's just like an iPhone because it's locked in the software so you can't do much with it. The games also play like garbage, constantly having to use low settings to play a game is very annoying.
It wont be perfect as long as they’ll only do overlay apps like the armory crate to the windows. They should really do custom windows for handhelds, in order to be at least equally as good as decks user experience. Windows is just too clunky, buggy and bloated even for high end pc’s and even more to these mid-range cpu’s.

The Lenovo Legion Go is the wrong way to approach a problem. It tries to gave great performance and a large screen while being a Windows handheld and it can't run Alan Wake 2 unless you go into the bios settings and change the amount of RAM the video card gets. And then it becomes unstable. This is after you spent days trying to configure it properly. Add to that the fact the battery can last less than an hour if you run games with high settings at high framerates and you have a product that is essentially a gaming laptop without all the advantages of one. Yes I had one. Yes I returned it.

I mean that's the beauty of this handheld... You can game with an actual controller and put it on tabletop mode (like a switch) or go handheld. It's really up to you!
