  • Unofficial recap of all 18 Songs in Eurovision Song Contest 1977. Please, enjoy!
The Eurovision Song Contest 1977 was the 22nd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in London, United Kingdom, following the country's victory at the 1976 contest with the song "Save Your Kisses for Me" by Brotherhood of Man. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the contest was held at the Wembley Conference Centre on 7 May 1977, marking the first time the event took place in the month of May since the first contest in 1956. The contest was hosted by English journalist Angela Rippon.
Eighteen countries participated in the contest; Sweden returned after its absence from the previous edition, while Yugoslavia decided not to enter.
The winner was France with the song "L'oiseau et l'enfant", performed by Marie Myriam, written by Joe Gracy, and composed by Jean-Paul Cara. The United Kingdom, Ireland, Monaco and Greece rounded out the top five. Greece's fifth place finish was their best result up to that point. France' fifth win was also a record at the time, and one that France held onto for six years, until being equalled by Luxembourg in 1983.

Extraordinary to think that to this day this remains the last time France won the contest. I miss the days when Eurovision was like this - no pyrotechnics, dazzling light shows or crazy set design, just simply performed songs done with sincerity.

Our West-German and Dutch-Belgian in Englisch ... The responsible director for German entries, Otto Grünfeld (1974 green suit of Bert Berger and 1975 green dress of dancing Joy Fleming with also terrible hairdressing) from a local broadcast-station (hr) had the plan that all entries should be in the national languages - but our German group refused to sing in a different language than English. One female singer of the Belgian Group, Stella Maassen, performed in Dutch for NL in 1970, 1982 for B in French (Si tu aimes ma musique) and in 1986 she was a background singer of the winning Belgian Sandra Kim (J'aime, j'aime la vie).

However all performers had good choreographies (with small opportunities standing in front of micros) this year was not a start for great careers - exept Anita Scorgan (later a great Scandinavian composer) and perhaps Stella.
