- This is a memorial video of all the artists who competed in Eurovision Song Contest and passed away. For this video, only the competing artists and band members are included, not dancers or backing singers. I hope you guys will enjoy.
Huge thanks to @MrElsner83 for the information needed for the making of this video.
Some mistakes made in the video:
Franca Raimondi actually died on 22 April 1990.
I showed the wrong clip for Renato Rascel, who competed for Italy 1960 and not Germany. I accidently used the clip of Wyn Hoop instead.
Some people are missing that I'm gonna include next time I update this video.
Music used in this video:
Lament Of The Ancients - Asher Fulero
Rain Fuse - French Fuse
Good Gig In the Clouds - Joel Cummins
Forest Lullabye - Asher Fulero
Amar pelos dois (Instrumental) - Salvador Sobral
Rock 'n' Roll Kids (Instrumental) - Michael Zuzanek
Elegy - Asher Fulero
No.6 In My Dreams - Esther Abrami
Ne partez pas sans moi (Instrumental Version) - Hit Crew Masters
Molitva (Instrumental) - Marija Serifovic
Insieme: 1992 - Toto Cutugno

That so many of these artists died so young is tragic. In the few minutes they appeared in ESC they gave their all, did their countries proud and gave pleasure to tv viewers around Europe and beyond. This video shows that they’re not forgotten. May they all rest in peace.❤
You always make super videos !
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Why so many of them died young.
@@htgar8201 I think you're taking things a little out of context. From 66 years of Eurovision Song Contest featuring approximately 20 contestants each year and from various countries across Europe makes a total of at least 1,320 contestants in all (If each country put up a solo act). If you were to compare that with 20 people from each country who may have passed away in the past 66 years, I am sure you would get a similar demographic. I didn't count the number of people featured here or take account of the various age groups. Maybe next time I watch it, I will make a note of those ages.
I have just looked up Margary Gilles and I find she passed as a result of HIV in 1996
Her twin sister suffered from depression but whether that contributed to her passing is not made clear.
What has shocked me most are the young ones who died too early. Truly shocking.
What shocked me the most was Günther Hoffman; not even a year later and he felt THAT hopeless. Tragic!!
A lot of them seem to die well before the average life expectancy in Europe, even the ones dying in their fifties and sixties are young these days. Taking the figures Western Europe it is currently 79 for. men and 84 for women. Moldova has the lowest life expectancy in Europe but even there it is 67 years for men and 76 for women. I wonder why so many seem to die much younger than that
Wow!!!!! Absolutely amazed by some of the ages that these bright Eurovision stars sadly passed. Shocked and has really made me think!!!! Beautiful memories.
@@starspangledhikersame here, I am shocked by these young deaths, but his was the one that shocked me the most, because it was less than one year after participating, and I'd be curious to know, why. His last name ironically translates into hope man, btw. I know, why Macedonia 3005 and 2011, Armenia 2007 and Latvia 2005 died, and of course the frontman on AWS, but I don't know anything about those early deaths of earlier performers.
@@molybdomancer195 Yes thrue the italians are died in their 80 because the Italy expectation is 86. In the USA are 76 and in Somalia and Nigeria is 50 years.
Eurovision should do a segment each year honoring those who passed away throughout the year.
True and that would be like the Oscars with the in loving memory of towards actors, directors, screenwriters, etc.
I do agree with you. That should be an outstanding tribute to all of them: singers, conductors, authors, composers, hosts.
@@Botafogoplayground maybe just keep it to artists. We already heard how they’re cutting the show time in Malmo
@@joseuribe9273 Well, I meant those who passed away since ESC 2023
No, they shouldn't. It's a celebration. Bringing up dead people would seriously bring the mood down.
Rest in peace to all legends who ever participated in Eurovision, you all made history 🖤

It's so sad to see how young most of these artists passed away.
Dmitry Krasilov, a.k.a "Пухляш", dancer and former member of Little Big band (🇷🇺 2020) passed away today, 18.12.2023 in the age 29 😢
Rest In Peace, legend
So young 💔
It’s really depressing seeing how young some of the artists were. Rest in peace to all.
Toto Cutugno has a great song Insieme which means Together is just one of my favourites and is on my play list. Glad he had a long life RIP Toto and the rest of the Eurovision winners 😢
Strongly agree
Wow, i had no idea that so many participants died so young. Especially striking was the passing of Günther Hoffmann, who died less than a year after he performed. RIP to him and all the other participants who have passed
Sadly, it was self-inflicted.
Es gab übrigens mehrere ESC Teilnehmer, die auf dieser Weise wie Günther Hoffmann verstarben. Leider. 😞

The most shocking thing in that video, it's the age of some singers.
Yes I thought the same thing, ifor a while it seemed like performing at ESC shortened your life span.
I actually looked up some of them. A lot of suicide, in the 80s and 90s quite a few people with AIDS...
@@Momo-rv6enand a schizophrenic , who committed suicide
Yes, it's very sad all these young ages. It's not a positive image of The Contest is it? ie take part and die young! Nowadays, it's take part and get really low points for most artists, becos of the distribution of points.
@@nocturne7371 Well, there it was accidents, su1c1d3, illness, heart attacks...😢😢😢
So many deaths, but here is an interesting fact about the living contestants: Today the oldest living participant celebrates her 96th birthday: Mathé Altéry (France 1956) 🥳
So she is already the 5th oldest participant ever after Margot Hielscher (Germany 1957+1958) who became 97, Pearl Carr & Teddy Johnson (UK 1959) who both lived to be 98 years old and Emil Ramsauer (Switzerland 2013) who performed at 95 and died at 103 years old.

Tose,Valters, Vlatko and Ors are so sad because they were so young and we’re all recent artists 😢 Ors especially, being a fan since 2016 and having Hungary as a favorite in 2018.
I am so sad about those young ones in their 20's & 30's who left way too soon. It is truly sad to see those young faces and to know they are no longer. To them, and all the others, R.I.P. dear friends, and thank you for entertaining us and giving us the gift of music...
Rest in Peace to all of these legends who made history that competed in a legendary contest to bring people together
I remember how shocked I was back then reading that France Gall, Valters Fridenbergs and Ors passed away. France Gall is one of my favorite winners ever, and Valters and Ors not only brought great songs, but unfortunately died really young. May all of the artists rest in peace.
Ors breaks your heart - Vislat Nasr was about his grief over the early death of his father and then he died tragically young too probably because like many cancer victims the pandemic meant he didn't get the care he needed.
Although representing Luxembourg during its victory in 1965, France Gall was a French artist particularly adored in France. His death affected the entire country.
Curiosity, in addition to her own songs (notably those written by her husband Michel Berger), France Gall inspired 2 famous songs: "Souffrir par toi n'est pas souffrir" by Julien Clerc and especially "Comme d'Habitude" by Claude François adapted in English by Paul Anka and sung by Frank Sinatra under the title "My Way".
We are missing the ones that withdrew (Dana and Enzo Gusman)

The ages kept breaking my heart, RIP
It was such a huuuge tragedy when Tose from Macedonia was killed at age 26, it still is a touchy topic in the macedonian history. In USA they say everyone knows what they did on 09/11 and we in Macedonia say the same as for the day when we found out that Tose died. Can you imagine even the children got released from school earlier that day and there was 1 official day of sadness the day he was buried. What makes this even sadder is him being in a TV show giving an Interview just 6hours before the accident and talking about his life, future plans and happyness...
Sad that Tose’s d34th was known as the North Macedonian 9/11
RIP all of these amazing artists and beautiful people!
In my opinion, this is truly a labour of love for Eurovision. Done with respect, excellent research, and exquisit care for all the elements featured. Congratulations, my friend.
On a lighter note, I didn't see anybody performing for Andorra (or Azerbaijan, but Andorra is far closer home).
Rest in peace all those talented Eurovision artists hopefully an update will come next year

I have to mention Enzo Gusman, who would've represented Malta, at the 1974 Eurovision contest. He won the national finals with 'Peace To The World' (audio available on CZcams), but then Malta pulled the plug and sadly Enzo never managed to perform at Eurovision. He wouldve been their representative that year.

Sara Tavares (Portugal, 1994) died today (November 19th 2023) at the age of 45.
It is moving to see, for whatever reason, so many of these talented people lost their lives so young. Ted Gärdestad was particularly tragic. He was a teen star in early 70's Sweden and a colleague of ABBA. They actually produced his early albums while Agnetha and Frida sing backing vocals on them. This was before ABBA won the '74 ESC.. They helped to try and promote him on the international stage but it didn't really work out. Unfortunately he got involved with some cult in America which screwed him up. He made a fairly successful music comeback in the early 90's but was still unstable. He took his own life in 1997. Such a talented singer/songwriter.
