Bottom 2 in the final: *Exists*
Germany and UK: It's free real estate.
Look, we just don't want someone get last place who qualified from the semis, we're just that nice! 😅
Don’t forget Finland! This year was an exception really :D
The yearly battle between the UK, Germany and Spain for last place was my favorite part. Spain unfortunately seems to have stopped competing
Poor Germany...
2022: Sends a song called Rockstars, finish last.
2023: Sends actual rock stars. Still finishes last. Sigh.
Everything we do we do it wrong 😥
germany could send their most famous artist and STILL get last
or maybe we could send someone like Michael Schulte (a great singer who poured his heart into a catchy song) and end up in the top 4 again. Sure, we're not the most popular country in Europe for various reasons, but let's be honest, in recent years we had a lot of mediocre entries.
@@justthirdddd eh i think rammstein or eskimo callboy would do good
At least if would be funny if you sent Ikke Hüftgold
Germany this year might be one of if not, the most undeserved last place entry ever. I thought it would do well and I even voted for it.
Totally Undeserved Last Place
just don't say you liked it. it was very bad! in Europe, not everyone likes Rammstein-like rock, so they deservedly took last place.
@@paul_paveBut when Finland or Iceland or idk send something like this it gets loads of points. Bit two faced I think.
@@takethat.barlow_fans9541 it's not Bit Two faced, it's just that Finland is the best rock country in Eurovision. and unlike Germany, she knows how to make songs of this format.
from Germany I liked last year's song the most, then I was really surprised that Malik took the last place.
Someone’s gotta get last place
Blood and Glitter was ROBBED!!! Their performance was energic, the staging was very flashy, and his vocals were very impressive!!!!
IKR?
I nearly got tickets to the Lord of the lost and Iron maiden concert thing
You got the due punishment for not sending the awesome Patty Gurdy and her hurdy-gurdy.
@@ELisa-qf2mw I really liked her song and I voted for her before the national final, but that performance of her was just plainly bad. It takes a lot of talent to do what she is doing, but you still need to be to do it all live with at least some kind of stage presence.
With that said I hope she will come back for the next ESC's nfs and maybe learn from 2023.
They were better than Poland for sure
dream on
There are exactly 2 competitions every year:
Whether Sweden or another country will be first and the battle for the last place between Germany and United Kingdom.
Sweden/Italy for 1st, UK/Germany for last
@@nabla41hat’s so ridiculous but true. Italy always sends shit songs and gets Top 3 while Germany sends good songs and becomes last (except that Jendrik guy, he was very bad)
@@nabla41 I don't know why, but those two countries can literally send a piece of shit and they keep being at the top of bets. It have happened more than once (and more than twice).
Add Spain at the fight for last
@@Luca33600 Okay clown LMAO
@@CrispyMcBacon. ?
Poor Germany. I don't know where the disconnect is, it's just disappointing to see them last again.
So true there songs are very good 😢
@@Tate-gaming Thanks
Yeah... Ann Sophie was in my top 10 in 2015 :(
2016,2015 and 2023 underrated they did not deserve last place
because they showed up in drag and sang a mediocre song
Germany 🇩🇪: *gets last twice in a row*
Norway 🇳🇴: FINALLY A WORTHY OPPONENT. *OUR BATTLE WILL BE* *_LEGENDARY!_*
Yeah! And post Norway who came last 11 times!
@@ann-karin60 Ja, Norge fører i sidstepladser :-) Men det går da ganske bra nå!!
Great Britain is a worthy opponent, too…
@@zenkman82 ...and Finland and Belgium
I suppose Austria could have competed for the last place more often than 7 times if Austria got into the finals 😂😂😂 but they didn't even have the chance in some years 😂😂😂
It's unbelievable how iconic "Do it for your lover" is in its horrible execution
that's the best of the best moment of the song🤣😂🤣😂. Can you imagine how many memes did it inspirate?
As a German I don't care that we got last. This besides 2018 was the first time in 10 years that we got to be exited for our result as unlike the last couple years our last place this year was much more unexpected! I am very proud of Lord of the Lost! Not only did they bring an excellent performance on stage but they also showed so much love and engagement for the contest! They really couldn't have done a better job! Sure, the last place stinks, but at the end it's just a number and it doesn't change how much they slayed!
And they’re touring with Iron Maiden as well! There is clearly plenty of demand for them! I personally love them too.
Love you Germany, our brothers and sisters greetings from Kattowiz, Poland 🇵🇱🇩🇪🏳️🌈
Best German entry for ages 💛🎶🎸
They were honestly so amazing, I was so sad when they got last.
i loved the growth that germany had from singing about wanting to be rock stars to having actual rock stars... sadly anyone who is famous outside of eurovision usually doesnt do well in eurovision.. see darude and cascada as prime examples.
Ann-Sophie getting last place is the greatest injustice of all time
Sorry but I disagree, her performance wasn't bad at all but that song was just so boring
Remember in Eurovision you only vote for your favorite not your least favorite so the absolute worst thing a performance can be is dull and forgettable because even a wacky and badly performed song will get some points due to being memorable
Seeing Lord of the Lost here hurts so bad.
Agreed
Germany since 2015:
2015: last
2016: last
2017: second to last
2018: 4th
2019: second to last
2021: second to last
2022: last
2023: last
As a german, I'm disappointed that we were so good in 2018. I'm sorry. We will try to continue to be bad. But seriously, the NDR shouldn't be allowed to decide who will go to the esc anymore.
I will never understand how such a beautiful and vocally perfect performance as “O Jardim” finished last.
Same as Antes do adeus in 1997
Same as Complice in 2008
Being last in your own country must be embarassing
I am Portuguese and I hate o Jardim, but we deserved better, since the top 2 that year was crap
One of the best ballads in eurovision tbh
I don't care if it was last place, I still listen to that "Moustache" song. It's so much fun 😄
I agree 100% the song just has that thing that makes has fun
Lord of the Lost getting last place is literally the most infuriating and unwarranted last place ever
UK should've been last this year. Lord of the Lost is climbing my rankings of this year and is currently sitting in my top 15 (including songs that didnt make it to the finals).
Still better than tattoo
Lord of the lost was awesome ❤
I love how Portugal joined for the first time already got last place 😅
As well as Lithuania in 1994
@@MustiiForTheWin Oh didn't notice that, thank you for telling ❤️
It was so robbed tho. Don’t get why it did so badly, as with many of their earlier entries. It really seemed like juries had a bias against Portugal 🇵🇹 at the time because songs like that performed by other countries would do so much better. It is actually kind of amazing now they are such a jury powerhouse seeing that they keep doing similar things to what they have pretty much always done. They used to be so underrated, glad they aren’t any more. They are honestly among my fave countries in Eurovision as they are so genuinely themselves and do so the best quality consistently (unlike others).
@@aijamberisabel So true, you said everything ✨✨
@@aijamberisabel Oração was my 1964 winner ;)
🇩🇪: Oh, I’m last again
🇬🇧: Hello old friend
norway: how dare you are going to break my record?!!!
2015 - 2016 - 2023 Germany was stunning ❤
James Newman 2021 deserves much more
@@djdaint6206no he sang terribly
Agree 100%
Germany finally broke their streak of finishing 25th
Only to finish 26th
O Jardim and blood & glitter did not deserve last at all🥲🥲 2 of the most underrated entries of all time imo
The Eurovision theme with Germany is already personal hehe 😅
I really thought blood and glitter would be in the top 10
if the countrys don't like it then we are not top 10 feels already like a personal thing to germany
@@DieKiwi006 idk I personally loved that
@@dim0000 nice to hear that well some people love it some don't i hope we do it better next year
Justice for Germany ❤. Lord of the Lost didn't deserve the last place...
Didn't you already do a "Germany in Eurovision" video? 😅
So many of the last place songs are some of my favourite ESC songs ever. Most are so undeserved! There are so many I listen to regularly! I wasn’t alive to watch the majority of them, but if I had the ability to do so at the time, I would 100% have voted for them 😭 Some of them I love so much that even as a native English speaker I have memorised their lyrics to sing along, such as Kun kello käy and Sarkim Sevgi Üstüne. Literally underrated as hell.
Yes, many good songs in this medley!
More good songs than in the Eurovision winners Medley!
Blood and Glitter was easily one of the best songs sent to Eurovision this year. It is insane that it was last place. Do Europeans not have ears?
Apparently they were all between 11th and 15th place in the televote, which unfortunately means they got no points despite no country thinking they were last
@@KyrieFortune Yeah, if everyone thinks you are average or slightly above average, you get no points for that.
I think it's a taste thing when it comes to the European music scene.
Do we have ears? Well no, not after that screaming noise of Germany this year...
@@ahsuniverseslays did you not pay attention to that final growl... That was the best sound of the whole 2023 contest, possibly ever!
Calling something noise because you don't like it, just shows the many ways of music you still need to learn to appreciate. 😊
8:06 how crazy is it that Norway was last AND second to last in 1969!
Waldos ‘s People Lose Control was a bop!
Jamie-Lee (Germany 2016), Claudia Pascoal (Portugal 2018) and Malik Harris (Germany 2022) - They are the biggest underrated in history. They deserved more
Portugal was my absolut favorite in 2018 🤍
And Denmark in 2002😔
Germany 2015,2023❤🇩🇪
The song Rockstars sucked. Person is clearly talented but that song is boring.
@@techbeef No, you are not right. Maybe this song is not for Eurovision, but this song is exactly what you want to listen to every day, for example, when you go to work or just go for a run
Blood and glitter was my favourite song this year besides Cha Cha Cha
One thing has always been crystal clear - results in ESC often has been wrong and unfair and nothing to do with quality. Many excellent songs have been last. Not because they are bad - But because they are not commercial. Honour to the composers who make quality Music regardless of result 🎶💛🎤🎸😃
saw lord of the lost open for iron maiden a couple of days ago, further confirming my thoughts that they were robbed bc THEY WERE SO GOOD LIVE
I have tickets for LOTL next year
Damn poor Germany 🇩🇪
2015: nut points 27th for a great song
2016: Great costume and staging still last place
2022: great young man Again still last place
2023: top noch rock song still again last place
Nothing seems to work out for the Germans 🇩🇪☹
Last place
Norway (11 times)
Finland and Germany (9 times)
Belgium (8 times)
Austria (7 times)
Spain, Switzerland and UK (5 times)
Netherlands and Portugal (4 times)
Luxembourg, Malta, Turkey (3 times)
Iceland, Ireland, Monaco, Sweden (2 times)
Cypres, Denmark, France, Italy, Lithuania, Yugoslavia (once)
this year was so undeserved
Moustache and Do it for your lover are iconic entries
1975 Turkish entry is a beloved classical song now in Turkey. Didn't deserve the last place.
One song that became last but is important in a historical context is: Paulo de Carvalho's song “E Depois do Adeus” - "The song's airing on 24 April 1974 at 10:55 p.m. on Emissores Associados de Lisboa Radio Station, was one of the two secret signals which alerted the rebel captains and soldiers to begin the Carnation Revolution.". Brandenburger Tor by Ketil Stokkan didn't deserve to be last because it did reference in its lyrics the fall of the Berin Wall. Aside from these two, the other songs from the old era pre-1968 are all pretty and aftet that, beside a few novety songs, most were OK. So I think they didn't get many points because they were all a little forgettable. It's still a mystery to me what Embers by James Newman does there.
Oh my god. O Jardim came the last?! That song is so magical and touching to me.
Black Smoke ☹️ 💔
Also, proud of my country having a streak of 11 when it comes to not finish in last place considering we have the most last places in total 😂
Belgium 1993, Finland 1996, Portugal 1997, Belgium 2000, Norway 2001 and 2012, France 2014, Germany 2015, 2016 and 2023 all good songs in my opinion.
Vesa-Matti Loiri might've losen eurovision, but he wasn't hated. He died loved. He enjoyed his life, althought he had bad moments too. He isn't forgotten. In Finland there is still news about him sometimes. Vesku was one of best finnish singers of all the time.
11 Norway
9 Germany, Finland
8 Belgium
7 Austria
5 Switzerland, UK, Spain
4 Netherlands, Portugal
3 Malta, Turkey, Luxemburg
2 Sweden, Iceland, Ireland, Monaco
1 France, Italy, Denmark, Cyprus, Yugoslavia, Lithuania
Most Norway, most per capita Monaco 😅
And I really like ”Mil efter mil” Norway 1978 😂
Let's remember that someone must have last place to let someone win. ❤
Last place and second last: exist…
Germany, UK, Belgium, Norway and Finland: Don’t mind if I do!
Times a country appeared:
Norway: 11
Finland: 9
Germany: 9
Belgium: 8
Austria: 7
UK: 5
Switzerland: 5
Spain: 5
The Netherlands: 4
Portugal: 4
Luxembourg: 3
Turkey: 3
Malta: 3
Iceland: 2
Monaco: 2
Sweden: 2
Ireland: 2
Yugoslavia: 1
Italy: 1
Cyprus: 1
Lithuania: 1
Denmark: 1
France: 1
P.D: Quite impressed with Norway and Finland, they have improved so much through the years
Actually I expected Germany being the first here
Many of the last songs aren't even that bad
Unpopular opinions: last places usually have better entries than winners
Also, thank you so, so much for also mentioning the second last places! My favourite placement ❤️
If you sing a song with a city (or a part of a nation) in the title, you will probably finish in last place:
- Heute in Jerusalem [Austria 1979]
- Brandenburger Tor [Norway 1990]
- Venedig im Regen [Austria 1991]
- San Francisco [Norway 1997]
- Verona [NQ Estonia 2017] 😃
Wow! Zdob Şi Zdub were really taking a risk naming two then! 😂
@@callosamiusprometheus7350 Trenulețul is the title and reach the 7th position 😃
The German entry "Reise Nach Jerusalem" from Sürpriz finished 3rd in 1999. So it's not always last.
@@Tom2404 probably, I wrote
Amsterdam in 1980 was my personnal winner that year
It has been 10 years in a row that automatic qualifiers get the last place
I will never understand how Finland 2009 was last
Such a great song
Me neither it deserved better fr
Dear Lucas, i am watching your channel with great interest, since you are doing a fantastic job. Allow me please a small correction: In 1969 the second last country was Portugal and not the 3 mentioned in the video. 🙂
finally! the last one! Honestly the oldies in last place are infinitely more interesting than the oldies in higher ranks, even if I didn't really put any on my list. I was just happy to hear more energy and goofy lyrics from those early, early years.
It's just been a great learning experience for me going through all these videos, so thank you for making them!

Favourite Last Places:
1. Blood & Glitter -- Lord of the Lost (id like to be glitter bombed at eurovision. how can i time travel to make it happen)
2. Ghost -- Jamie-Lee
3. Rockstars -- Malik Harris (if you've seen my other lists.... you know)
4. Moustache -- Twin Twin
5. Sarkim Sevgi Ustune -- Seyyal Taner & Lokomotif (i'm getting lazy with the alt code, but-- always you turkey. always you)
6. Nuku pommiin -- Kojo (got me pretty good ngl. always you finland. always you)
I indeed agree with Finland 82! One of the best entries ever 💛🎶🎸🎤
I wonder if Father Ted's 'My Lovely Horse' was a tribute, of sorts, to that first tune. LOL
Be interesting to see if any last place tune actually made a dent in the charts.
The songs of the first ten years are pretty pleasant. A few wobbles from '65, starting to go off the rails in '72, and by '78 and from then on nothing short of crimes against ears
I've heard Baby Baby before i knew it was in Eurovision. LAST??? HOW? 😢 It's so fun and catchy.
It's actually RIDICULOUS how many of these didn't deserve to be last, especially in the last two decades!
remember quite liking a few of them on the night
For me, the undeserved last places are Turkey 1975. Finland 1996 and Denmark 2022
The fact that Spain was 1 point away to get Germany last in 2017 😂😂
Jacques Pills got last place in 1959 and then his daughter stepped into the contest the next year and she won lol
Blood and glitter the best!!!!
I think that ”Mil etter mil” by Jahn Teigen in 1978 is very underrated. Very strange live arrangement, but the song is good. Kjetil Stokkan did not deserve to end up last in 1990, I think.
As for the most well deserved last place, well I do think that the Spanish entry in 1983 is difficult to understand. It does not make any sort of sense to my Nordic ears.
My favorites entries who took last place was 1983 (Spain) and 1991
Omg 2018 Portugal! I dont remember that song, but man I was intrigued, when I heard it now. It sounds amazing to me ❤
Sometimes I think good songs drowns in the overwhelm of songs!
There are fare more songs that I kinda like, then dislike on this list! Maybe they were to similar to known songs, at the time, or not getting enough of our attebtion. But most of these songs I really don't hate!
We Still Has The Most Last Places 🤘🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴
Not for long 🇩🇪 💪

I'm almost convinced Europe has a thing against us (Norway). We've ended up on last place almost 10 times more often than we've reached the top 3, and our songs haven't even been that bad 😅
They do. Whaling.
Oft sogar ganz unten.
17:51 this is the best last place. How it didn't actually win is beyond me
And she's a queen 😍
one of my favourites is the 1969 norway entry, so sad to see it get last place
11:05 this gave me horribly much joy ...
So, I wondered if the last place in the Eurovision grand final since 2004 were occupied by automatic qualifiers (Big 4/5, Host Country, Top 10 Previous year from 04-07, special invite), so doing some research, here is how all the last place entries from 2004 onwards got to the final:
2004: Norway - Automatic Qualifier (Top 10 in 2003)
2005: Germany - Automatic Qualifier (Big 4)
2006: Malta - Automatic Qualifier (Top 10 in 2005)
2007: Ireland - Automatic Qualifier (Top 10 in 2006)
2008: United Kingdom - Automatic Qualifier (Big 4)
2009: Finland - 12th Place in Semi-Final 1 (Jury Backup Vote)
2010: United Kingdom - Automatic Qualifier (Big 4)
2011: Switzerland - 10th in Semi-Final 1
2012: Norway - 10th in Semi-Final 2
2013: Ireland - 8th in Semi-Final 1
2014: France - Automatic Qualifier (Big 5)
2015: Germany - Automatic Qualifier (Big 5)
2016: Germany - Automatic Qualifier (Big 5)
2017: Spain - Automatic Qualifier (Big 5)
2018: Portugal - Automatic Qualifier (Host Country)
2019: United Kingdom - Automatic Qualifier (Big 5)
2021: United Kingdom - Automatic Qualifier (Big 5)
2022: Germany - Automatic Qualifier (Big 5)
2023: Germany - Automatic Qualifier (Big 5)
So it seems like the Automatic Qualifiers often make up the bottom, which is odd, considering the Big 5 have won Twice with Germany and Italy, and Italy had never gotten last place in the final. My theory is that during the week, you hear most of the songs twice, so it sticks in the memory longer. Probably not a very good theory, though so draw your own conclusions.
Well in the semis, the "bad" songs are already eliminated. So to not get last in the final the Automatic Qualifiers have to be in general at least better than all the songs that didn't even make it.
If we assume every country has the same chance of a good song, then just by being an Automatic Qualifier a country has a higher chance of being last.
These countries are also generally more in the spotlight of the world stage and most of the time that isn't helpful.
Germany and UK are best friends who sit on the last desk
Da kann man doch wunderbar sehen, dass nicht immer Deutschland die Letzten waren, da war England, Frankreich und Spanien genauso angesch........
Schöne Zusammenstellung!!!!!!! Daumen hoch
BRANDENBURGER TOR 😭
They also robbed Lithuania 1994, Finland 1996, Denmark 2002, Switzerland 2011, Ireland 2013, France 2014, Germany 2016, Germany 2017, Portugal 2018, UK 2019, Germany 2022 and 2023
Jamie-Lee was my favourite in 2016 💔
How could I have forgotten about the 1973 Belgian entry, and those purple outfits? Hadn’t realised Finland, Belgium and Sweden came last so often, we seem to remember Norway doing it most. Singing in a language few can understand has seldom worked.
Did all the last place songs “deserve” it? Certainly not. Did Jemini? Absolutely.
23:53
I see that it was not really a good idea from Portugal to sing about occasions around goodbyes, whether it is after or before it. Perhaps, a song titled During the Goodbye would…
Lately, there were many songs that didn't deserve last place: Lord of the Lost, 'O Jardim', Jamie-Lee, Andy Abraham, James Newman, Tooji.
On the other hand, it's a relief that Manel Navarro, Gracia, Josh Dubovie and especially Jemini came last. Sure, Manel Navarro's 'Gallo' was bad, but 'Cry Baby' feels like a dentist appointment every time I hear it. Even the studio version sounds really off-key.
All germany entries in the Eurovision Song Contest (1957-2023)
I think that is the next video.
❤❤❤😊
How could Germany come last in 2016 and especially 2022, the song was so beautiful
Finland 1963 is marvellous...
i always wondered why you never put austria 2015 as last even though it tied germany. I know about the running order tiebreaker but if thats the case why are both norway and iceland shown for 2001
The tiebreaker rule for last place only came in 2007
You have a mistake, you wrote that Switzerland was second last in 1969, but they got fifth place with the beautiful "Bonjor, Bonjor" (you also said it was your favorite entry from 1969, so...
Plz fix it
Not gonna lie I think Moustache is my favorite last place song even though Black Smoke is also amazing.
Im french and i voted for Spain and Germania this year 2023.
I really thought that Spain could win and i felt in love for Lord of the lost' s singer's personnality ! I will never understand juries' votes 😂
Lord of the lost were done dirty. They DID NOT deserve last place. I'm still thinking how that even happened
My favourite last places:
1959 (Monaco)
1964 (Germany)
1968 (Finland)
1975 (Turkey)
1996 (Finland)
2011 (Switzerland)
2015 (Germany)
2018 (Portugal)
My favourites among many great last places - too good for their own good:
Austria 1979
Finland 1980, 1982, 2015
Spain 1983
Georgia 2018, 2021
San Marino 2023
Malta 2023
Etc
1975:Wrong decision❌
1983:Correct decision✅
1987:Maybe🫱🏻🫲🏻
Its crazy that a top 5 country( or host country) has been last every year since 2013 and often theres another top 5 country in second to last place. I feel like people dont like them because they didnt have to qualify because a lot of these songs are not that bad
O jardim😢
What are the stats, which country is last most often?
Norway holds the record with 11 last places
This is were Norway shines 😅
As a German we need Electric Callboy 🇩🇪
You'd still finish last bro
What about the last in semifinals (2004-this year
at 8:05 Second last is Portugal
The songs from the 50s and 60s were generally quite good despite placing last.
The same cannot be said for the entries of the following decades.
