      No Degree of Separation (2016) was partly in English. In 2011 Madness of Love was in English and L’Amore È Femmina (2012) also partly in English. I prefer it when the artists sing in Italian as it’s a very beautiful language, but I’m also biased because I’m half Italian.

      I'm not Italian and I also love the songs sung in Italian, but I do recognise that there is a strategic element to it - language rules gave English-speaking countries a massive advantage and that makes it hard to argue for reinstating them.

      Italians instead prefer when everyone sings in English, singing in Italian gives the idea we can't speak English (which is unfortunately true). Also, we are at the same time very proud and very critical of everything we do. If you ask an italian what's the best song in the contest they will tell you it's the italian one, but it is also the worst. I know it doesn't make sense, we're just like that.

    The best and most authentic country in Eurovision. They deserve more victories, I hope they're coming soon, they know what music, art, quality and diversity means.
    Soldi- Mahmood. Such an original, innovative, danceable, modern and yet very meaningful song. Just perfect. It proved that modernity and quality can perfectly be together.
    Non mi avete fatto niente- Ermal Meta & Fabrizio Moro. A really emotional, touching song with probably the best lyrics ever written in a Esc song and a particular melody. Imo it should have won, one of the best masterpieces in ESC
    Il Volo- Grande Amore. Absolutely perfect voices put together in an incredible way. Imo the best live performance to date in ESC, pure class, and pure music. They won the televote with one of the highest scores ever, with an entry that is not stereotypically televote-friendly at all, that says it all. How the juries robbed them so much is still beyond me.
    Occidentali's karma- Franceso Gabbani. Really funny and innovative, and with great lyrics. As much as I love Salvador Sobral, it would have been a great winner.
    Brividi- Mahmood & Blanco. An authentic masterpiece, awesome melody, very well-written lyrics. The live performance could have been as good vocally as in Sanremo and they could have kept the atmosphere better, but it's a song that fa venire i brividi.
    Fai rumore- Diodato. What a great song and singer. Too bad that he couldn't perform live in Eurovision, his interval performance was amazing and he could have won.
    Zitti e buoni- Måneskin. Yay, something very different from Italy and one of the best rock songs in ESC. Finally the deserved victory came :)
    L'essenziale- Marco Mengoni. Amazing song and performance, again pure class as only Italy knows.
    Nessun grado di separazione- Francesca Michielin. It was great and deserved better, the song is great and so is Francesca. I think it could have done better if it was fully in Italian tho.
    La mia città- Emma Marrone. The song is ok but not too good to be Italy, and she is a great artist but somehow the live performance wasn't good.

      You already explained why Italy didn't win all the times they deserved: Italy got robbed by the juries every time. Even when Italy won with the Maneskin was only thanks to televote, because the jury voted for those whine songs from Switzerland and France much better than Italy. San Marino, Malta and other countries never give to Italy good evaluations. Scandinavian countries always vote for other Scandinavian countries. In order to win Italy has to outnumber all the other countries just with the televote, and it could be not enough, like the times with Il Volo or Moro and Meta, which should have won easily

    • @daida.
      @daida. Před rokem +10

      @@keyos1955 Completely agree. Italy's brillant songs keep being unfairly ignored by the juries for not being in English and for not being generic enough, while Sweden keeps being voted just for being Sweden. Too often juries are not professional, but a bunch of narrow-minded people who don't like anything out of the box or that they don't understand. What they did to Il Volo and Meta & Moro was ridicolous, it was the televote to give the due value to Il Volo's incredible voices and to Meta & Moro's message and great lyrics, what a joke.

I know that live shows need to be tight in time but make every song a min longer won't hurt anyone. That's why I find some of the mainstream artists' songs a little tiring because it's too long to listen. My point is maybe giving the songs that the countries are bringing to ESC about 20-30 secs more in duration won't be a bad idea, not that I don't like the 3 mins rule, but 3 mins is kinda short, many songs didn't start until its first 10 secs. So giving the limitation of 3:30 would make the songs sound properly and maybe help translating a fuller meaning that the artists are trying to bring to the audience and the jury.
