- Game 1 is in the books, Game 2 looms large for the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avs liked how they played in Game1, and they feel like if they can duplicate that play they have a great chance of take home ice advantage away and head back to Denver tied at one.
It looks like Justus Annunen is still under the weather and might not be available for Game 2, so it looks like Alexandar Georgiev will get another shot in net.
Can the Avs rally around him? Who will we be looking at after the game is over that stepped it up?

I was not paranoid the second I saw how well we played in all aspects, outside of goaltending, throughout the game. Avs have more playoff killers than the Jets who know the moment and can elevate their game
Thank god that according to reports he had a rapture spleen,, Stone used this time to recuperate that should deff not be allowed ,,, I hope they change that loop hole unfair to the rest of the NHL teams

my takeaways:
1. I love the battle & that we put 6 on Conner. Final second goal shows we were never giving up.
2. When I heard Wood had scored, and some other plays made me think the bottom 6 is definitely sick of hearing about the Jets bottom six and has stepped up their game and are going to be a force in this series.
3. I’m thinking back to the Stanley Cup finals in Tampa Bay and remembering how the Avs split the series there on opposing ice. I am more than confident they’re going to be thinking of a split for game two.
4. About Gorgi, I had heard possibly he has an injury that’s nagging that prevents him from being 100%. I’ve never heard you guys bring this up and I’m sure you’ve also heard. I’ve heard you say they don’t trust him so I don’t know what’s true but the guy needs to have a great game as he didn’t with the Kraken as well. I like the guy a lot and hope for his best.
5. Avs win 5-3 or 4-3.

I think there are a lot of positives in game one, I’m not going to comment on injury rumors because they are typically just thrown in after bad performances
No predictions but outside of the few costly mistakes and bad game by Georgiev, I’m confident if the Avs continue to play the way they did in game one. And not to take anything away from Helle as he’s a great goalie, he’s usually helped by the Jets forcing teams into low percentage chances. Avs found a way around that defensive wall and made Helle uncomfortable which is what they need to continue to do. Rinse and repeat.

Defense is the key. Build a wall around Georgiev and quit turning the puck over. The offense is fine.

One thing I have to admire about Colorado at least they don’t cheat to win the Stanley Cup, like players that are truly injured and not fake injuries like Vegas
I will predict this: if the Avalanche STOP turning the puck over in our own zone, we will win. That means not chipping the puck from behind our net to the other team. That means being confident WHERE they are sending the puck within our own zone. No blind clearing attempts
That was my biggest glaring problem on the rewatch
Gorgiev gets a shot at redemption due to illness, fine, but I cant imagine him staying on ice if he gives upb3 in 10 again. I don't see any reason why he won't either.
If bednar refuses to go to a healthy annunen that is the stuff that causes coaches to lose their jobs. We may not see a healthy annunen this series sadly.
If the avs are going to have a shot they will need to average 5, minimum, and I'm not certain they can. 4, maybe, but they will need a track meet every night. They won't win 3 to 2
Georgie has to know what’s on the line tonight
I’m just gonna enjoy this series cause the next round is gonna be way tougher, Mark Stone is magically back from injury so the Vegas Knights are going to be really tough for any team. I just wish the NHL would do something about their ability to cheat the cap, it makes a mockery out of the league, I feel bad for dallas facing them in the first round
To summarize your three comments…the road through the west isn’t easy, the knights suck and the nhl will never crack down on them…I agree will all 3 points and dont discount the east either, some scrappy play out that way

Drouin injury and goalie status this year. Last year Nichuskin. It just seems to me that Bednar is not getting these players laser focused and dialed in for the stanley cup playoffs. Maybe I'm off base but come on we need to be 101% ready for this tournament every year, nothing less is acceptable - its the toughest trophy in sports.

The problem is it isn't "one game" it's been a problem all year but Game 1 was the worst of it
For sure back up, perhaps georgiev struggled immensely because he knew he had no actual backup game one. Lets hope he shuts the door. He at least has to to keep his job. No way id start pros.

The central division couldn’t have a more horrible pathway to get to the Stanley Cup, so unfair when the Rangers get to play the capitals in the first round, the east is way more of an easier pathway to the finals than the west that’s for damn sure
Is nobody concerned their 3rd line matched up with McKinnon and outscored them 3-1 and jets top line shot and scored at will. Helly still made over 40 saves and didn't let in a bad one

Id go with prosvetov or even holm before going back to him. Cant be much worse than only stopping 2/3 shots from any goalie who is close to the nhl. If they start geo again and lose thats pretty much the series. They should have tried to get a legit back up 2 or 3 months ago when it was obvious he was having major issues then though. Seems foolish to build the foundation of the team around 1 person who has be struggling for almost half the season.

The Avs look fine without Girard, they need a goalie. Girard isn't improving anything. Guy had 3G all season. He throws pucks into legs and misses point blank chances all day! He can't defend the front of the net. He can't stand up for his teammates in scrums because he's small and weak. The only thing he can do is pass. That's ridiculous wasting a playoff roster spot on such a pointless player.
