My Mustang GT is Officially Totaled...

- I didn't want to admit it, but it's time to say goodbye to one of my favorite vehicles I've ever owned - my 2018 Mustang GT with a VMP Supercharger kit that was my 750HP daily driver. I have countless memories, roadtrips, and amazing times with incredible people who all helped me with this project. The damage from the collision is unfortunately just too much - so...now what?

on smurf, since it was rear ended - check the harness that powers the rear license plate illumination for short to ground (if the radio doesnt show any change). You really need to get a multi meter on there and measure the amp draw as you unplug/plug different stuff for parasitics like that.

She ain’t wrong about altimas
Bruh the meme of Altima drivers is spot on. You always see those fuckers swerving and shooting gaps.
100% agree with her
I always watch out for clapped out altimas in Atlanta.
They are the late 2000s version of the 99 impala.
No she ain't smh 😢
RIP Mustang, at least you and your wife is safe that is the main thing.
He needs to something against the altima driver
@@bearbro10 y'all saying that he needs to sue them must not understand that someone like that has nothing to sue for. They drive an altima and have no insurance because they're broke.
@@androiduberalles I know that, but something can possibly be done right?
if you don’t buy it someone else will. guaremteed
@@androiduberalles definitely but that person will automatically get their license suspended. At least that's how we do it in GA for driving without insurance, and probably get charged with negligence and driving while distracted a few other things on top of possibly getting sued by our boy here.
David, use a thermal image camera if you can borrow one. Open and lock all the doors, let the car go in sleep mode and look around for warm electronics and relays that won't "sleep".
Can someone like for David to see this?
That would probably work considering how fast it sounds like it's draining. I didn't know he had that radio in there, money is on that.
@@SnifferSock yeah that's probably where I would have STARTED but idk all the symptoms and timelines.
I passed an Altima on the right yesterday… girl was camping in the passing lane looking down at her phone, had no idea anybody was around her, two cars sitting behind her waiting for her to gtf out the way.
I thought of you at that moment, slowed down, honked my horn to get her looking up and flipped her off for you.
3:32 she's right about the Altima thing. I'm a truck driver. I've driven across the country at over 60k miles in 5 months. Altimas are among the most reckless drivers I have to deal with.
Same here. Altima drivers piss me off
Also a trucker, but I'd say it's altimas second behind diesel pickup owners. They weave in and out of traffic, blow lights, and pay no attention to other vehicles in their blind spots. And it's not the brodozers doing it. It's the work trucks driven by middle aged men.
@americansmark I'm limited at 65 so I don't see them too much. They fly right on by me.
The other day, I saw an Altima blatantly run a red light. We were in the same lane approaching the red. I saw the white Altima, with a chunk taken out of the front bumper, in my rear-view, then pass me as I was braking for the yellow light. The Altima tapped the brakes when the light turned red, then proceeded to power through it.
When I got home, I wrote "dash cam" on my shopping list.
Build the sickest altima known to man. That's what the universe is telling you.
It’s time to WhistlinDiesel an Altima.
If he buys an Altima a Mustang will destroy it.
Altimas haven’t been cool since the 90s.
@@angelgjr19992006 was the last year of cool Altimas. lol
@@sebbonxxsebbon6824 I thought Mustangs were attracted to light poles and crowds?
I vote for a 2024 Mustang GT with a VMP blower. HELL YEAH! Glad you and your wife are ok. 🙂
The Altimas strike again
OFC they were texting and driving. Honestly infuriating how normalized it seems to be and how many accidents it causes. Big F, sorry to see it totaled
I see it all the time on i35
Hopefully that text was worth over 60 grand…
Where I'm from in Canada they take texting and driving seriously. $500 + in fines. 5 demerits. Get caught multiple times and they impound your car.
@@Josh-cw8bynot only that they’ll take your licence, in Saskatchewan it definitely is not tolerated whatsoever.
@@ericacherney3132 Good. I'm your neighbour in Manitoba. Spring has finally arrived for us, eh? lol
The idea that anyone would ever go to bat for Nissan Altimas is proof that Twitter will argue in all situations ever
Flat earthers and Altima defenders...
Dude I swear altima drivers are like the most dangerous drivers, I'm so sorry to see that clean mustang get totaled man. Best of luck to you
I had an electrical draw in one of my cars and it turned out to be the touchscreen radio. That’s definitely something to check out.
Weird, I got a overcharging issue where I accelerate past 4k RPM and it jumps to 17 - 18 Volts, then goes back to normal 13.2 - 14.3 Volts... gonna get my 2nd replacement alternator at this point
Yup usually for me of that happened it was an aftermarket part.
I'm surprised it wasn't one of the first things they checked... Aftermarket electronics are common culprits, and easy to test.. Unplug that hoe and see if the car still drains.
Take a breath. Get yourself centered and squared away. You've done alot, and continue to put up a positive front. Sometimes you need a short burst of venting and screaming in the pillow.
You got this. These are short term speed bumps. Take a break, refill the tanks. And push forward again.
Wife took that hit like a champ. She the real MVP. Glad no one was hurt.
I feel ya David. In the past year my Dad, grandpa and my family dog passed away. My dad passed away 4 months before my wedding. My WRX that I put a lot of money into got totaled 3 months ago. I also got a nagging back injury from that accident. It seems like its one thing after another but I know I need to perceiver and look at all the good things I have in life.
Keep your head up brother.
Same thing happened to my Focus RS a few weeks ago. I was sitting at a stoplight and a F150 ass packed a chevy blazer and pushed it into me. Insurance totaled it but gave me a clean title, so it worked out.
Screw it, get an Altima and coyote swap it! 😂 ... But seriously, take a break. Get nothing and sit with it for a while. The answer will come to you eventually.
We are here for you David!! Thank you for sharing all of this with us
she wasn't wrong about the Altima
I got side swiped by one awhile ago
Same thing happened to me at the end of february, I know your pain.
I had a 2008 vw rabbit that I bought at the end of january last year. I put almost every hour of free time I had into that car. Redid the interior, fixed a ton of random crap. I got a short runner intake manifold, catback exhaust, stiffer motor mounts, coil-overs, some Audi wheels, and some cosmetic things. I was my first car, and I fell in love with it, the five cylinder in that car is literally the best sounding motor I have heard, and the N/A induction noises with the short runner manifold were intoxicating. I went to so many meets, kept up with cars that I had absolutely no right to with 210hp and no turbo. It was so much fun. I drove that car every single day. I had plans to put in a built six speed and turbo it, but now that will never happen, all because someone rear ended me.
All the time and money that I put into that car, gone. Right when I was at a point where I was content too, I had fixed just about every problem on the car, and gotten all the mods I wanted, then this idiot in an old beat up Sentra rear ends me at a light.
It really is making me asking myself if modding cars is worth it, all of this commitment, just to get it taken away because of someone else's incompetence. And now I am left without my car, and like half the money that I put into it.
I hope things get better for you and you end up getting something positive out of this whole conundrum. I have loved your channel ever since I found it, when I found out you started out in VB I became an instant fan lol.
"like half the money that I put into it." Yeah .. that is a tough lesson. Peeps shouldn't put *all* their $$$ and love into a car. Enjoy it - but realize it can all be *gone* in an instant. Sadly, you can not control all the other people on the road.
Ppl shouldn’t put all that money in their car without good insurance. I have agreed value so at least if someone destroys my car I won’t suffer financially
@@Jak2bossbf3 yeah, was under my dads insurance so that wasn't an option, but in the future I will do that.
I appreciate your full transparency David. You guys got this!
That person’s insurance agent be like “you hit a what..???!!!”
That radio is your problem with the draw, I’ve had so many drain people’s batteries (install radios professionally)
funny cause my mustangs factory 6 change disk player radio drained my battery constantly, not only did I have to replace the smart box but I tossed that radio and got a single DIN pioneer from Walmart wired it in never had a problem since.
all you need is a diagram of your cars and a wire probe circuit and you can fix just about any electrical bug and its way cheaper.
@@Dr.Mcstaby that’s not what I’m referring to I’m talking those android radios. Ford has the worst factory radios by far. Also single dins are from the early 2000s get a real radio from pioneer perhaps with CarPlay? I hope you’re referring to a multimeter, not a test light.
@@dang3554 which radio swaps would you recommend? Are there any that still work with the Fordpass app?
I would say do either an s650 or just go with a GT350. I know you’re having problems with Smurf but keep in mind, those problems didn’t start until you got rear ended. Mustangs have always been very kind to you and I feel like in your current situation. A reliable car that will also put a smile on your face is priceless.
I'd love to see him buy an s650 as a new daily.
Hey David, just yesterday my trans just slipped into neutral on my way back from work, I'm praying it's smth small like the conductor plate or trans fluid instead of a new trans. We're all going through smth brother, and we appreciate your ability to push through it all 🤙
I can relate my dude. Last December on my birthday, some lady rear ended my parked SS 1LE Camaro in front of my friends house and totaled it. Felt lost af. The car market right now is so weird and awkward, it takes a lot of soul searching and convincing to figure out what to get if youre not up for another project car. Ended up with something COMPLETELY different with a 8Y RS3 because comfy small 5 cylinder sedan is perfect (dual clutch is admittedly a lot more interesting than I thought it would be, but nothing compared to a manual).
Really expensive, but perhaps an EU car could be a neat change of pace? If not, I really think a S650 (perhaps a Dark Horse!) could be right up your alley and feel like an "upgrade" from Sub Zero. Regardless, godspeed dude.
Hoping things get better for you! Been watching you for 10 years now and I’ve learned you always bounce back no matter what difficulty has been thrown your way! Rooting for you always! As far as at the end where you asked for suggestions for what’s next, I would love to see you in a Euro car, my mind goes to like, F/G80 M3 even though everyone and their mother is building one these days, or like a S4 or even a Golf R or S3, would be a good way to also replace the Mustang and the Integra in one car if you do wind up selling the Integra! Also, I’ve got a 400hp MK7 GTI and I’m about 45 minutes west of Atlanta so I may hit you up to do a review soon once I get it cleaned up cosmetically lol, she’s showing her age now 😂
Totally feel your pain man, felt crushed when my New Edge I had highly modified was stolen and crashed up a tree. Absolutely crushed me and sending that thing off to a yard never to be seen again REALLY hurt. I drove mine back from the the wrecking yard to the shop put see it on the rack one last time.
Just very glad to hear your lady was safe.
Edit : Sammy get the salt!!
You actually modified a ford edge I bet that was a challenge since aftermarkets don't really make anything for those unlike the mustang, I hope you saved what you could for the next project.
@@Dr.Mcstaby New Edge as not Edge ;) As in 99 Mustang GT
David, the majority of people do not have to deal with all the headaches youre going through. Its crazy the luck you've had the last 5 years. Stay strong man.
Mo problems = Mo videos! The cycle is anguishing, but it keeps errbody going. Best of luck getting all of your things sorted, David!
My 2014 Roush stage 3 trak pak was involved in a house fire last year and got Prince Zuko'ed on the driver side. Im still dealing with the aftermath of everything, BUT! THE ROUSH GOT FIXED AMAZINGLY ENOUGH LOL. Can't wait to see how things turn around for you, man 🤙
I always call them “crack head altimas” I live very very close to you lol. I can confirm the Altima thing. 😂
Take it to V-tuned he can fix anything!
Vtuned might end up buying it to part it out for his new company.
not worth buying from the insurance company if i had to guess
Sorry to hear about this man. I seriously hate driving on I-85. Whenever traffic comes to a stop on 85 I always have my eyes on the rear view mirror cause I have trust issues and worry about my safety and the safety of the people in my car. Keep your head up and hope yall make a full recovery from your injuries.
Really appreciate all your videos over the years; the evo’s, supra’s STI’s, trucks & getting your racing license were all very inspiring & it’s been awesome to live vicariously through your content.
I’m a car & motorcycle/dirt bike guy but really can’t afford to delve into it. My cheap rebuild title 2013 Mazda3 hatchback’s engine died cause of an oil leak & my own stupidity in January after 3 amazing years with it. Loved that car; lived for that notchy 6 speed. Might be an excuse to save up for a GRC. . .
Sorry to hear about your grandma. & white whip. Keep going tho, you got this!
You should give the GR Corolla a shot
No!! David, I am so sorry.
I have an unusual personal experience regarding Altimas: the two people that I know that are close to me used to drive an Altima and they're perhaps the two people with the best driving behavior/skill that I know lol. But, perhaps, having a truck license and knowing how to drive an ambulance and A FREAKING FIRETRUCK is what it took my dad and a close friend of mine, respectively, to be immune to the BAE virus.
I learned to drive in my dad's Altima, but he sold it soon afterwards, so maybe I didn't give the Big Altima Energy enough time to infect me lmao
Kinda hilarious personal anecdote aside, It's really sad to see you saying good bye to your Mustang. It really looks like you loved it and spent a lot of miles together that will never come back, no matter how cherished. 😢
We all definitely want to see your projects finished!!! All of them are so cool!
I am waiting to wake up from this bad dream
Buy the mustang back from the Insurance and take the parts from it and see if the engine is still good and use it for something else
Best part is it can only get better from here bro.
Hold your head high and think of all the great accomplishments you’ve achieved !
Sorry for the rough year man. Tons of awesome stuff in your life and I hope it only gets better!
Time for a Mach 1 !!! i loved the gen 3 content , its what made me get mine.
Glad your safe.
Sorry for the loss, David. Glad everyone is okay. You mentioned a modern car and the first thing that came to my mind was a C7 vette. Would love to see your take on building one
When it rains it pours.
Some of the best advice I have ever gotten is, "Don't worry about what you can't control." Said by a guy who goes by, Joe the Pleb
I'll be praying for you and your family.
Best Regards
There’s someone somewhere with Voodoo dolls of David and all of his cars and they are freaking relentless dude.
Sorry to hear about the S550 man
Possible idea for your next build if you can work something out with the salvage yard: take the entire powertrain from it and swap it into your next build so at least the S550's heart and soul will live on
A GR86 would be such a cool move! Hope you get all your projects together soon, and glad your wife’s doing good!
Sorry to hear this, man. Glad you and the wife are OK. That's always priority number one. Cheers to new beginnings, and can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Dude I would be raging …your attitude is amazing after all this.. kudos to you!
Feeling your pain, my 2014 Mustang GT was rear-ended almost a week prior to this. Between having the insurance and shop go back and forth on totaling it out, and a police report missing vital details of the other driver, it’s just become a bittersweet moment of frustration. First sports car, at the time was its own sense of accomplishment. Stay headstrong, David, time to bring the ‘13 5.0 back to its glory
Cars come and go my dude but there’s only one you! Glad you and the lady are safe and hope your year turns around for the better.
Excited to see what your next daily driver ends up being…*cough* twin turbo s650 *cough*….sorry had something stuck in my throat there. 😅
Not surprised to hear this result after the initial pictures. What a great car. Maybe you can buy it back for parts/a new project? Can't wait to see what's next regardless of brand. For Alejandra, I hope she goes immediately to physical therapy and that it helps solves her pain. Stretching exercises did wonders for me after an accident.
I really hope your luck turns around david!
As for what car should be next, I really thing focusing on something that is relatable to people is important. I have been recently watching gingium's short series about turbo charging his honda fit and let me tell you, something about that being somewhat attainable for myself just makes it that more interesting.
I think the next car should be something the average car enthusiast doesn't immediately think of but still respects and finds interesting.
List:
Honda CRV (1st or 2nd gen). Maybe some sort of challenge where you spend the least amount of money to beat some important super car of the 2000's in a drag race, say a lamborghini gallardo.
Toyota Camry with the 2gr-fe aka the lotus evora engine. A series on supercharging that puppy would be sick and also I think surprising enough, "super car engine in camry", to get some clicks. Plus they sound sweet.
Honda insight (1st gen). How cool would it be to swap in a motorcycle engine in this thing! Sound good and get good mpg.
I'm sure there is more cars, but yeah.
Again, hope stuff gets better 🙏
Hang in there. I enjoy watching your content, and things can look only get better from here.
Honestly, just glad you guys are ok!
Take some time to recover and recoup. Hug the lady and pets and just take it easy.
We'd love to see anything you ship out video wise. Just take it easy brother man.
Glad yall are ok. Altima's and Maxima's around here are bad like that and for some reason I swear Camry's and Accord's are trying to catch up to them lately
Sorry for your loss, David. I know you will find another great sports car. Best of luck with your car hunting.
David despite things being against your odds you will still pull through, I wish you and the wife lots of love and recovery soon, get the builds done and maybe getting some new
Hey David no worries man. We're car guys we get it everything goes wrong all at once over a few month period. I'm in mine right now too. I'm glad Alejandra is okay especially with the back of the mustang like that. Get your videos out and get some stress off you man. Your community will always be here.
Aftermarket touchscreen radio in my friend's 2012 civic did the same thing, but I think a new alternator and larger battery fixed that issue. This was about 6mo ago and he is still taking it on long trips routinely
Seems like a no-brainer to me that you get yourself into an S650 and dump every car that doesn't have a Coyote in it to help finance the build. To me, TDIB is a Mustang channel. Keep up the great work, amigo!
Hang in there dude, we'll be here when you're back up and running. Sad about the Mustang but there are a bunch of great DD's that you can pick from when you are ready.
At least the car was what took most of the damage and Alejandra's okay. That's what matters; cars can be replaced, people you love can't. Take all the time you need, brother. The real ones will still be here!
As for a new daily, the GR86 or a base S650 Mustang would be sick! I'd love to have either one, lol. I wish I lived closer to you, I'd take that Integra in a heartbeat if I could. It's so good!
What a crappy situation. Sorry to hear about the outcome. Hope Alejandra has a speedy recovery!
That really sucks David, I’m sorry to hear this happened, and condolences to you and the family as well.
As far as a modern build, what about changing direction completely and doing an streetable off road truck like an Pro4X/Nismo Frontier build?
Take care man my condolences for the Mustang, it was a beautiful vehicle
Brother, take a minimum of two days for yourself. Don't worry about anything. Come back to everything with a "fresh" mind and start the work. Just use those days to get some perspective and get in a good place and then move forward.
My mustang GT hydroplaned a year ago now not for from where this happened - I hit a concrete barrier at 60mph and walked away without a single bruise. Great car and it’s tragic that it happened out of nowhere, but I’m super grateful.
We love your content and we love you David! Keep doing ehat you're doing... Take some well deserved vacation. Go see the fam in PR... Lay low for a minute and come back stronger!
Altimas, F-250/350s, and Accords too🥲
They’re all in the same boat!
Idk if you’ll see this David, I’ve been watching you for 10 years now?

I think you should do what’s best for your health, and that’s allocating your time, and working on cars that’ll benefit your channel as well

Your account FLOURISHED during the build series. Do what makes brings in more income and lay the review editing to someone on the side so you can do what YOU DO BEST. BUILD SERIES

Take this with a grain of salt, I just wanna see you be successful, and healthy (also I’m friends with Phaulner in AZ) have a good one mate, we’re all rooting for you
Don't let the BS get you down. Every time I'm up multiple hits at the same time take me down. You got the energy to get back up. Kick the shit out of life and keep going.
Glad you guys are Ok David , Huge Bummer about the White Mustang. If you do get another car, im so happy you mentioned the GR86 . Itd definitely be a suggestion from me
We love you David. Minor setback for a major comeback.
I got 99 problems... sending you good vibes and juju since so many thing seem to be going wrong for you David. Hope things turn around soon for you good sir!
Glad you guys are ok, kinda sad that thing is dead now 😭
We support you no matter what! Keep it up 😬
I'll be sad to see the integra go. I still go back and rewatch the build series over and over, it's been good motivation to work on mine. And the baltic blue ironically enough I considered painting mine well before I saw the series, I fell in love with that color when I was looking at getting an SC300. So that car's been my favorite for a long time
Man, all that stuff you got going on sounds EXHAUSTING!
But I bet the MagnaFlow factory tour was cool
100% agree with a "break" but in the idea or sence of taking a moment to reflect on your past cars, current cars, and future goals of what SCREAMS in your heart.
While faint now, it will be louder than ever with a hole you have and so this would give you MORE burners from your stove to FINISH a recipe and make it PERFECT!
I've been rearended by two Nissan Altima's. One in my 2017 Mustang GT. Got a bad concussion. I also got rearended in a Focus loaner from Ford while my previous Mustang was in the shop being worked on. Glad you okay just bruised. Feel better.
Never like to hear about car wrecks. Glad everyone walked away from it. My Veloster N was totaled back in November because someone blew through a red light. Only car accident I've ever had in 30 years. A Nissan Altima, naturally. Go figure. Totally feel you on the whole "if it's not one thing, it's another" deal. But I think whatever you do next will outshine this endeavor completely. You always make the best of what you have. Excited to see some new reviews!
As big fan of ur channel n someone who daily’s a 6 speed first gen brz I gotta say u gettin a gr86/brz would be insaaane, also would love to see more reviews on bmws preferably e9x or f3x, but mostly the f32 440i with the B58
It's every single day, crazy stuff happening. Have to somehow make the best of it and stay positive and be thankful for all we are blessed with.
I have watched your past videos on the mk1 audi tt, what about doing a video with another mk1 or the other generations. Maybe even a mk3 ttrs?
I have enjoyed watching all your videos and the effort you put into them.
Ive followed ya for awhile. Taking a break is sometimes the best thing possible. I thinned my project pile out awhile ago,
sold my 1930 Model A Sedan to my friend who was doing the body work.
Parted my 84 Mustang out, kept the 438w F1A Procharger motor, holley stuff drivetrain etc
Told myself to leave our 94 RCSB OBS alone and just drive and enjoy it
Then out of luck an 04 Lightning came up for sale near me and I had to snag it up.
Now I just drive and enjoy the couple trucks I got. Life is simpler now. Lol
I loved the Mustang vids it helped me decide to get a S550. It’s sad that it got taken out. I’m glad your wife is ok.Keep your head up it will get better and you should get a S650 in the future.
I am so sorry this happened to your car, but I am glad that you were not harmed. I have had 2 vehicles totalled at the fault of the other motorists, but I walked away from both unharmed, which I am very thankful for.
I'm sorry for all that you are going through David! I'm glad your wife is safe! I think as much as you loved that mustang, maybe try to find another one! The s550 is my favorite body style of the newer mustangs. However it would be interesting to see you do a s650 platform! Hoping it would make me like the s650's more, if you decide to go that route
For Smurf, it may be a module not properly entering "sleep mode" I'm a ford Tech and I recommend back probing modules with a voltmeter.
Take your time Daniel. First thing I learned as a machinist I'd rather have a quality product than a fast one. Take care of yourself.
Things will get better, but it does seem like a good time to take a break after all that.
Factory tours are quite fun, and I wish I got to do them more often!
I don't know what modern car I'd recommend, but anything with a low production count seems like a fun!
I just hope you get the parts off that are salvageable. Whether you use them or sell them things like the custom painted dash are memories.
My fiancé's 2013 had a parasitic draw as well. I've read about a lot of people having that issue with their late model S197s. Good luck.
That totally sucks, David. My baby is my Evo and she’s got issues right now, I’m trying to sort that out so it’s depressing but we will overcome. I’m with Alejandra on the Altima drivers, get well soon nena!
As soon as you posted that photo i already knew it was totalled because a shunt at 60 with buckled quarters are doomed
David, take your time to figure it out man. Maybe finish a project or two rather than buying something else. Do what you feel is right, everyone is still going to be around no matter what dude
