No thats not right. A transaxle combines the transmission and axles and differential into one. So yes front wheen drives have them. Also rear engine rear wheel drives have them. Mid engine rear wheel drives have them. Ex. VW beetle. Lastly a front engine rear wheel drive can have them the 61 to 63 tempest had one but they have been around since the late 1800's. It helps with weight distribution, the motor up front, a driveshaft to the transmission in back.
