  • I accidentaly uploaded a low res version of my latest main channel video. 1.5 hours after that mistake, I re-uploaded a fixed version, then watchend the analytics, only to see the analytics on the first version malfunction! 2 days later, it appears the damage wasn't that great.

    Resolve is free, and can generate downsized copies for editing. It also lets you rebind the keys for everything so you can change it to be what you're used to.

I still "liked" @krtwood 's comment tho bc I didn't realize that Resolve let's you remap the key bindings. Shotcut might have a similar feature I'm unaware of, but it's been like learning a new language after my prior experience with Final Cut Pro.

    I don't think you should feel bad about creating a clickbaity thumbnail for that video. TBH it was a very accurate and illustrative image that got right to the point of the video while still creating interest for a general audience. I honestly wouldn't even call it clickbait. If anything it's a great example of accurate advertising.
    One thing I hate about CZcams is that they don't let normal creators replace existing uploads in place. Some folks like Corridor Digital have been allowed to replace an upload in place to fix VFX issues and it's just absurd that sort of functionality isn't widely available. I understand how it could be absued, but this is a perfect example of why we need those sorts of features.

      Yeah, I'd agree - I think there's a difference between a thumbnail that is captivating and one that's "clickbaity", the latter implying dishonesty about the content of the video, which wasn't the case in my opinion.

    I think in terms of Clickbait, yours was actually quite authentic and I wouldn't even put it in the same category - I'd say that it was very cleverly done and relevant to the video. I'm chiming in for Davinci Resolve, though I did have to upgrade my computer to use it - though now I can edit in 4K! :) they seem to make enough money from hardware to run their software division, perhaps? ... I think the proper name for what you are doing with downscaling is called creating proxies (down sampling during editing, native res on export), though it is usually part and parcel of the editing software, but perhaps your version of Vegas doesn't have the functionality built in.

    Saw the first in my subs list but by the time I got to watching it I saw the second hi res upload was available, with the titles saying the difference so watched that one instead (from start to end). Interesting that you have such a focus on view count performance within such immediate timeframes. I watch videos largely in the order they arrive in my subs list, unless I have restricted time available, then I'll skip longer ones to find one that will fit. It does mean I sometimes don't get round to watching all the Friday releases until Tuesday or Wednesday if I've been particularly busy over the weekend.

    Tons of people open up videos in a bunch tabs and then eventually get around to watching it hours later. You'd probably have to private the video if you want them to watch the new one. The worst part of youtube analytics is that all of the stats are behind by different amounts of time and if you start adding things up they never come out right. The audacity that they have a little note telling you that as if its acceptable.

    All/most the statistics on YT are "eventually consistent" you can see this in various places. The graphs are clearly generated on some sort of batch job basis where as a straight number is lower compute intensity and cheaper to just show you accurately. Still views are always laggy and likes are always in real time, so on a popular recently uploaded video you can see thumbs up vastly exceeding views :-)

    Matthias, sorry to be peeping at your stats, but as a fellow creator I am blown away how little you make given the size of your channel. I understand not all your videos have a million views but this is a great case study as to why CZcams will never be passive income as the algorhthym doesn't suggest older videos hardly at all. You have almost 800 videos and from what i gather not a lot views monthly on those. I also learned how imporant watch time is to youtube. A video that is 5-10 minutes will earn significantly less than a video that is 20-30 minutes with multiple ads, and thats how a tiny channel with one video that does well can almost match your earnings. I feel for you man you've been around for so long with such great content and you're such a big channel I really would have thought you would have been compensated by YT much better.

    I did watch the video, enjoyed it, and left a comment. In my opinion neither the thumbnail nor the title was clickbait or even "clickbaity." I think it is okay to pose a question in the title/thumbnail that is answered or at least explored in the video. And you did cover your lessons learned in the video and you did actually make those pieces you hold in the thumb nail. Yes, perhaps you did some pieces for the sake of CZcams, but this testing rig and these tests are the sort of thing I would believe you would do even if you were not on CZcams. In other words, it was true to your character and personality (or persona at least).

    Is it possible to write scripts to help automate your CZcams upload process? Something like checking the resolution (looks like that should also be possible via ffmpeg or ffprobe) and then upload the video via the CZcams data API.

    • @HeiszWandelproject
      @HeiszWandelproject  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, I could use a script to check it, or I could just check it by looking at it. Either way, if I forget to do it, it's a problem.

    • @penjon
      @penjon Před 2 lety +1

      @@HeiszWandelproject Was thinking more along the lines of: if it's possible to get the script to do everything you usually do for the upload (thumbnail, title, description? Plus the upload itself) in addition to the resolution check, then you could just do the check and upload in one step by running the script (makes it harder to accidentally bypass the resolution check in your upload process). Seems like the loss in revenue from a screw up could merit the effort to get such a script working.
      (Edit: I spaced out a little in the second half of your video and also missed your conclusion that it didn't really have a significant impact. Still, using a script to do the resolution check and upload in one step might be a nice way to avoid this.)
