      @@jeremiahbullfrog9288 You obviously have no idea how long it takes per minute of video. Most normies don't have a clue. I would agree with you if it was just a camera and some bimbo on TikTok but with this I do not. Btw, to make money on TikTok is pure hell so most do it who only want to chase clout, or are narcissistic. To earn money directly from TikTok, users must be 18 years or older, meet a baseline of 10,000 followers, and have accrued at least 100,000 video views in the last 30 days. Once they reach that threshold, they can apply for TikTok's Creator Fund through the app. Now, after jumping through all those hoops are you ready? Here - As for the TikTok Creator Fund, you can earn between 2 and 4 cents for every 1,000 views. This means you might expect $20 to $40 after reaching a million views.

As I keep asking people is what in the hell can you do in under one minute that is worth doing? If it can be done in one minute then it really never needed to be done.
      Oh, I was just watching a vid from one of my content creators and he does shorts, but mostly long form. A video should be as long as it needs to be and not forced it into a set time, under 1 minute, over 10, etc. Some videos needs to be an hour long, some 3 minutes - I believe that which makes the video as good as possible win in the long run.

      @@_BLANK_BLANK The real problem is that for some reason in early versions of the CZcams app after Shorts were introduced, when you opened the comments it would pause, but now it just keeps playing, meaning that you have to mute everytime you stop to read more than a few comments, unless you want to go insane listening to the same thing over and over.
      What's more, you then have to unmute for the next Short, which is way too much friction for what should be a seamless experience.
      That mirrors the painful experience of having to select 1080p everytime you load a video, instead of just having that handled in the settings. Instead of making it automatically apply your chosen setting like you can with extensions/add-ons in browsers, you now have to perform 5 taps instead of 4 due to the stupid new interface deciding that 480p is 'High Quality'.
      These complaints may sound trivial, but billions of people doing them dozens of times a day represents billions of dollars worth of lost productivity, and is a serious inconvenience for people with disabilities.

    I think it's kind of interesting how people get upset about the revenue from Shorts. At face value it's a great way of recycling older content or reaching new viewers who might otherwise skip or miss your content. That's fantastic. But the flipside is it's technically a different platform with it's own monetization system and all that.
    CZcams certainly needs to find a better way of monetizing Shorts to make them worthwhile for creators. But so many creators seem mad about Shorts being less lucrative when they could just add a few extra frames to the video and avoid it being a short...
    Eventually CZcams will either bring the revenue up to parity with a regular video, people will stop using shorts, or CZcams will further distinguish shorts as it's own platform. That last option really defeats the whole advantage of having regular CZcams content and Shorts in the same place.
    You CAN'T share content designed for a different platform on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. But you CAN on CZcams. That's HUGE for creators who want to have an audience for normal content while also attracting new/different viewers with Shorts. To get that same dynamic on TikTok, you need people to leave TikTok and go to CZcams. That's basically impossible because of how addictive TikTok is designed to be.
    Ultimately I really hope people uploading 1:01 videos to avoid them being Shorts encourages CZcams to make the income worth the effort because it'd be a shame if CZcams gave up their key advantage. There's got to be a middle ground that satisfies creators while retaining the unique platform features inherent to Shorts that's absent on every other platform.

    • @mrdrummer2564
      @mrdrummer2564 Před 2 lety +1

      But if the short gets 1.5m views, that's exposure for the channel which will likely see a general bump in subscribers/general video views. So while a short itself doesn't make money, it likely indirectly does due to the "few" 1000 that watch your other videos.

    • @EyebrowsMahoney
      @EyebrowsMahoney Před 2 lety

      @@mrdrummer2564 It doesn't work like that. The typical shorts audience have no interest in watching more full format videos or even becoming a subscriber. They're just doom scrolling to consume content and not really actually engaging with the video creator at all. Of course - there's exceptions to the rule, but mindless consumption is what Shorts is geared towards, and viewers aren't encouraged in anyway to engage with the content creator outside of liking or disliking their short to influence their feed.

    Video length is calculated on the client side by browser JavaScript on the CZcams website. Different browsers (e.g. Firefox and Chrome) will give different lengths for the same video, depending on how many frames long the video is! (Because of differences in floating point math between V8 and Mozilla's SpiderMonkey)

    I think the biggest benefit to shorts is linking back to your main videos and gaining viewers / subscribers that way. Seems like your idea of a super snappy cut of an existing main video would be a good tool for channel growth with minimal time outlay.

    What you experienced is the CTR click through rate. If the video is so short the possibility that people watch the whole thing if very likely.
    That feeds the algorithm. And while "normal" videos are displayed with way more ads you earn money.
    AND CZcams recommends normal videos for a longer time than short.
    I uploaded my first short the other day and was surprised to get over 2000 views in the first 3 hours. But then it started to stagnate. CZcams doesn't really like shorts. Imo yt has em only to compete with tiktok

    Maybe there's a space in there for you to game the system a bit. Possibly by making some videos between one and two minutes in length, earning the regular ad revenue from an audience segment that doesn't always watch longer videos.

  • @firesurfer

    From what I've seen with the trends on several other channels that have talked about it, the shorts seem to be a good way to get views and drive traffic to the channel, but not really good for generating revenue. I'd be curious to see how things would do if you released a short either briefly before or briefly after doing a major video upload, like within 24 hours of each other, in order to drive the traffic to the channel and get it on the radar of people who are more likely to watch the full length video.

    A tutorial must be short. A characterization of some idea or situation can't really be short to cover enough aspects and present a clear picture.

  • @ThisCanBePronounced
    @ThisCanBePronounced Před 2 lety

    I was wondering how it could be possible for a stock/crypto short to be long at the same time, LOL. How the algorithm has brought us together today...
    On-topic though, according to what I've understood of the algorithm up to recently, I would suspect a bigger problem with shorts is simply trying to mix them with longer uploads. The most recent "general advice" I was hearing was to not mix regular uploads with streaming because its views count just as normal videos, so which ever form brings less views will be hurt by the other. I'd imagine that same is true for shorts. Worse, the view counts compound indiscriminately, so if you add shorts/streams to your channel that end up getting less views, in general, the algorithm sees you as losing viewership and watch time.
    Even if that's not exactly how the algorithm works or not anymore, it still makes cautionary sense from a general marketing perspective. A new form of content will naturally fit best to only part of your audience or to a new one. If one's not prepared to commit and manage the broader audience, it's best to stick to the old or pivot completely.
    And yes, I hate shorts too mainly because I can't even rewind I think? It's just a bad user experience.
