  • This channel used to be called "The heisz wandel project", but it was never about prjects, and john has lost interest, so it's just me talking about CZcams. And talking a bit about where I see this channel going. I still have a number of topics to talk about, so I figure there is at least another six months of life left in this channel. But there's only so many things to say, so I'll run out of topics eventually.
    John's video that I referred to:
    • Why CZcamsrs Make Vid...
    And in response to this video, John made another video with his side of the story:
    • The TRUTH About The He...

      And that is satisfying because John H. has clout (intellectually and vocally) and doesn't mind unleashing it on those occasions that warrant and You(Tube) Matthias (as I'll denote you on this channel) has plenty to say about the CZcams environment especially with how the "algorithm" causes CZcams weather and CZcams climate change.

    I think John is wrong about people being interested in behind the scenes CZcams drama. For most mainstream CZcamsrs, those types of videos always do pretty good.

    • @danthefrst
      @danthefrst Před 5 lety

      I'm not really sure, it might depend on what you mean by "behind the scenes"?
      John is not a person that seem to be hungry for mainstream youtube drama, about how, for example, that Neistat dude has done something stupid or not, and called out for it, and then he answers with a deflection that there was these dudes, actually, that did it, and then the shitstorm is up and running.
      I interpreted John that he meant the gritty mechanics of the videomakeing. How he goes about setting up camera angles, ree shooting, change angle, carry the camera to his office, editing procedure and so on.
      And yes that can be pretty boring if your'e not a videomaker yourself.
      But thats how I interpreted him, in that video.

    What a weird assumption to say that people aren't interested in watching videos about CZcams because they don't have a channel themselfes. For me the opposite is true, I'm always interested in the stuff I don't do myself. If I had my own woodworking shop I would probably watch less videos about woodworking except if I'm looking for some specific solution to a problem or something like that.

  • @Fleenoreric
    @Fleenoreric Před 5 lety +4

    Not unsubscribing, Matthias is the main reason I got into woodworking. His approach and problem solving is extremely valuable. I like the behind the curtain inner workings of the Business/Family Life. You are more relatable and I will watch your videos ASAP opposed to Johns. I think like others have said, the information you're sharing isn't irrelevant at all even to people that don't have a channel. The way CZcams works is just as relevant to its viewers as it is to the creators, if only for the fact that if the algorythm screws over creators that you like, that's bad for their fans as well because they get less/no content. Besides, I think many people watch your videos because they are interested in your problem solving and ideas, not necessarily in the area where you apply them. On top of that it seems analyzing CZcams seems to get even more snarky commentary out of you which is always entertaining

    • @Rick-vm8bl
      @Rick-vm8bl Před 5 lety

      Without trying to be rude to Mathias, he's been out of the game too long to provide up to date programming knowledge. The industry has moved so fast that if you've not been programming regularly, and learning the newer languages, you're not much use as a teacher - see any university lecturer that has been doing it a while, they try and teach C to their students, using very outdated approaches.
      That being said things more around how to learn them (without teaching them) and the meta side of things would be fine.

    Several thoughts.
    1) I'm sad to see John leave the channel.
    2) I liked John's vision for this channel as a technical back and forth between him and Matthias.
    3) I don't think Matthias was really interested in doing that.
    4) Matthias' larger following was often too negative or insulting towards John in the comments, which felt inappropriate.
    5) When John says a ton of people aren't interested in the behind the scenes of CZcams he is right, but he also means he isn't as interested in making videos about CZcams analytics as Matthias is.
    6) Since Matthias has tendonitis and this channel has a decent number of subscribers it makes sense in his mind to make videos for it.
    7) I'll keep watching but will miss the collaboration aspect.

    CZcams is a constantly changing responsive system, what was valid in 2017 is not exactly valid in 2019.
    For example older content was promoted, then it was de-emphasized, then in late 2018 it started to be promoted in search and discovery again.
    Talking about what's changing, what works, and what doesn't is a source of infinite discussion and content potential.

    Love you, buddy (Matthias)! Love my hybrid pantorouter. You are so fun and make such cool things. I know you hate this kind of comment but I don't care! You're the most interesting out there!!!

    Might already be on your ideas list but.... Could you do a video on how to support people on youtube for free? I think the likes of patreon and other ones which involve money are self explanatory. But what difference does not skipping the add make? What about clicking on the adds? If I click through amazon affiliate links but then buy something else does that still give you a cut? Then the non financial side of algorithms and video promotion: What does liking or sharing actually do to help? Does writing comments make any difference (other than to confirm to the maker there are actual humans (non bots) watching?! I'm sure there is more, but that's all I can think of at this hour! Thanks

      Watching the ads is not worth your time. Donate $1 to a youtuber, and that will benefit them more than you sitting thru two hours of ads, at least by my numbers. So, is your time worth more than 50 cents per hour?

    See, this is the attitude I miss (or at least wish I saw more of): creators talking or doing stuff they're passionate about or interested in, not caring too much about getting millions of followers. The Internet is a huge place, pretty much no matter what you put out there there's bound to be a bunch of people that would want to know more about it.

    Matthias, there are channels with 100s of thousands of subscribers that talk about making videos, equipment for making videos, making thumbnails, pretty much everything that goes into what it takes to make a CZcams channel grow and thrive.
    They also talk about how to monetize your channel using sponsors, amazon referral links in the description, Patreon and other methods to monetize.
    That puts John Heisz on the wrong side of this topic.
    Changing the channel's subject matter is OK as long as you keep the previous videos up. Those videos will attract future viewers regardless of how old they get, because those viewers will be interested in that subject.
    When you run out of what you think you should talk about, do question and answer videos. While some will ask questions on things you covered, others will also ask questions on things they did not understand and that gives you the opportunity to clarify a statement you made. Then there will be the questions on things you did not think to cover.
    The primary reason that the CZcams video subject is so promising is that regardless of how much one may know, a video will remind you of something you forgot or something you need to improve when it comes to making videos.
    The only difference between the woodworking subject and the video making subject is the end product. Woodworking gives you a physical item, whereas videos are a digital product.

    M, we watch youtubers because we've invested time into their channels and their lives. There's something for everyone. If you can pass your experience onto another, that's worthwhile in my opinion. Keep doin what you're doin!

    You do have a good idea here, your only mistake was to pick the wrong partner. I have a hard time understanding how you entered into this channel with him to begin with (you must be so easy going). stick with your plan, just find the right match. the total concept is a good one.

    As a CZcamsr who has done well I think people would be interested in that. Some of the most popular channels are people telling other wanna be CZcamsrs how to do it. Some of the most popular songs are about being on the road.
