I have smoked marihuana 6 times in my life. One time when I was sixteen. And 5 times when I was 19, in the time frame of 2,5 mounts. Will it have permanent impact on brain? I was smoking the Dutch marihuana, so it had no more than 18% THC.
Except that one time when I was sixteen.

Cannabis itself isn't bad one bit. You're talking about impulse control & a slew of other character defects that leads people to drug use. Your ability to say thc is bad isn't good.
You could have said thc is an endocrine disruptor but then again so is carbon dioxide.
Weed isn't bad for anyone but you can take pharmaceuticals & those are much better. Kids these day literally can't go to school without amphetamines, adderall, or some other BS & you're talking about weed 😂
Antidepressants are the norm in how many parents?
      Is this a joke?

I'm 21, got heavy at around 18 and stopped only a few months ago. Stopping frequent cannabis use is the best decision I've ever made. If you are ready to make efforts to improve, you will recover, your brain will go at it's normal pace again, you will have more energy and will be (after the withdrawal of course) less anxious. Weed doesn't make you the best version of yourself, it's the addiction that makes you think that, don't ever doubt it. Keep strong brothers

We started to take weed in fun activities, then it quickly turned into things being fun only if we took weed. It's complicated to rewire anything if you can't change your environment, and the lock down was really a burden for that. I'm glad to hear you're getting out of it. You're always a little bit high but it is impossible to notice. I noticed it 6 months after I had stopped smoking weed, it just hit me like "daamn I had forgotten this is the way world used to feel. But once you've been sober for 6 months or longer (depends on how much you smoke) the calming effect is gone. Now you see the world how it is again. And this is the hardest phase when trying to quit. @Link Link No, it would not be good to be mentally young. Those who are mentally young are more likely to have anger, anxiety, and stronger emotions than mature adults. But you can still be mentally young as an adult in a different way. That different way is having fun, living life with wonder, and overall finding joy throughout life.
As far as you being angry, depressed, and hating everything. I think your issue isn't being young again. I think it's realizing you can still act as though you're young. Go outside to explore your local forest. Think to yourself. What things made you love to wake up as a kid? Was it video games? was it hanging out with friends? Was it being adventurous? That inclination as a kid is still present in you. You need to find that again. Best of luck to you brother or sister.

There's a lot of research on this now, and unfortunately cannabis-induced psychosis in teenagers and young adults is not rare. In London, 30% of first-episode psychosis is due to cannabis; in Amsterdam, it's 50%.
Given the high conversion rate of cannabis-induced psychosis to schizophrenia (approximately 1 in 2), those are truly horrifying statistics.

When I smoke regularly, I notice my motivation flatlining, and my general reactive care to my environment going close to zero. If some people notice positive impacts, that’s great for them… but by all means make the decision for yourself and be honest with the effects. @@isaac8141 it's not ridiculous it's being realistic. You can smoke all you want but be aware of what it does to you, and it was holding me back without realizing it like many others. I don't plan to quit permanently, but I have to get out of the cycle in order to step back and look at whether or not it was actually helping or just allowing me to avoid my problems. I agree that lots of people who use weed went through hard stuff, and the problem I encountered was letting weed take my focus away from recovering from that. I wasn't making myself better to overcome the damage it had caused, I was smoking weed to forget about the damage and just live with it. It's not good to just live with it, you have to face it and overcome it, and I would just smoke weed and then say "I'll do that later." That's probably not an issue for a lot of people, but many are simply unaware of what it is doing to them, as I was. I was being controlled by weed, and part of the process of reversing that power dynamic is to eliminate it for some time. This video makes everything so much clearer. I’ve been smoking nightly since 15 to help with my problems with insomnia and sleep regulation. In April 2022, 2 months after turning 20, I dove headfirst into a panicked and dissociative episode of derealization/depersonalization. They started me on ssris and Buspar, and while they helped at first, I still found myself in a depressed state of constantly questioning reality. Disturbed intrusive thoughts of suicide and the possibility of nothingness after death buried themselves into my brain and made life hell. Hopelessness from having failed yet another college semester did not do the situation any favors, as this was where a major portion of anxiety stemmed from. Looking back, I probably should’ve been institutionalized. Only medical support, meditation, exercise, gratitude, thoughtfulness, spirituality and the people important to me helped me through the worst year of my life so far. Even after the panic and dissociation were gone though, I’m still working through executive dysfunction and habit building (which have been a problem since childhood, regardless of marijuana, but I imagine it made them much worse).
I’m doing much better now, with an additional diagnosis of adult ADHD-i and the meds and counseling that comes with that, but still smoking marijuana and struggling in some places. Finding this video has helped me find the next step in the path to becoming a better functioning adult and i really hope that anyone out there reading this in the same position I was in a year and a half ago realizes that they’re not alone no matter how isolated you might feel. It does get better, but apples don’t grow from a tree you’ve just planted.

Speaking for myself, but quitting marijuana is absolutely fundamental to make any significant progress on combating executive dysfunction and ensuring uninterrupted treatment of ADHD.
I’ve had two marijuana-induced psychosis’s, both similar to your description of “derealization/depersonalization.” I avoided any institutionalization during the first episode, eventually relapsed, and found myself in a harsher/longer psychosis soon after. Luckily, I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital and drug/alcohol rehab for over 100 days, which provided the necessary education and intervention for me to stop completely. It’s not easy, but it’s the only way to maintain my sanity.
It just gets worse. Quit while you can.

I’m 20 and have smoked heavily for about 3 years and can honestly say I’ve 100% noticed a cognitive decline and feel slower when it comes to planning and organization. With that being said…that’s kind of the whole reason why I started smoking in the first place. It might sound silly to say but I honestly felt “too intelligent” before smoking. I literally couldn’t slow my brain down, and life was absolutely just an overrationalized pit of meaninglessness. While weed has made me less smart in certain areas, it’s opened up intelligences within certain modes of being that I wouldn’t have had access too without the drug. After mushrooms, though, I will say I’m more motivated to quit the substance than ever - and THAT is where people undersell it. Weed, the chemical, may not give you horrible withdrawals, but just the act of smoking in of and of itself is so incredibly difficult to cut out.

I used to overlook the fact that I can potentially develop Psychosis as a result of continuing to smoke weed at this age but I have recently been taking my health as a priority in my life so I am determined to wait a couple years until I allow myself to smoke weed again. @user-uq3pv1tl5i Před 2 měsíci

I'm glad you have come to this conclusion. You should stay well clear from cannabis all your life. Women tend to develop schizophrenia later in life than men; it's hypothesized estrogen acts as a buffer, delaying any potential onset.
I'm male, where psychosis most often flares up during the teenage years/early 20's. I experienced several cannabis-induced psychotic episodes from 17-18 and believe me, it was by far the most horrific time of my life. I should add my family has no history of mental illness, so it was shocking when it happened.
In psychosis, genetics plays a role - but the environment is the bigger factor. The biggest environmental risk factor you can control is to stay away from cannabis; you would massively increase your risk of developing psychosis/schizophrenia if you consumed high-potency cannabis frequently, so don't take that chance. Wish you a great life!

I've since quit at 17 and have been dropped out of highschool focusing on better myself day by day to become who i want to be, reaching financial physical social and mental goals and not being dependent on cannabis was apart of my bettered future vison of myself but if i were only slightly different i think that cannabis could continue to be a very useful and applicable service to life-ish issues. i dont think mine nor your experience with cannabis were the majority effect however i think its best described that its very imperturbable at the beginning of usage with slow stable effects but slowly feeds into or takes away certain attributes of your person depending on your past and current environment and mental state. very rarely hear about other people that have had struggles with BPD and also consumed cannabis at a young age. im glad to be able to get a closely relatable perspective on something like this, thanks

Fact checker time, according to that article he was reading, thousands of studies were screened but only 20 were actually chosen, he himself states that the adverse affects are making you "4 times as likely to develop phycosis" but followed by "if you have a direct family member with bipolar." Furthermore, it is specifically high THC items vs low THC items in the study and their findings are that higher THC concentration is more likely to be involved with individuals who develop CUD (cannabis use disorder) and phycosis, however, their findings on the effects of depression and anxiety varied. Also, while I only could check the summary of the research because Lancet has the full paper paywalled and I don't care that much, there was no mention in the summary of the effects being more pronounced in youths than adults, although I would guess that to be true, emphasis on the word guess. In summary higher potency is more harmful than lower potency overall, but his blunt statements about it harming emotional development and making you (I'm paraphrasing) dopey are not backed by his source, maybe there's more in the full video but I choose to keep on keeping on and say with very little evidence that this guy is possibly a legacy stanford attendee and likely is basing most of his ideas in the racist ideologie of African Americans being unintelligent and uncivilized because of cannabis, I'm assuming this because of the odd way he worded things and the way that his source doesn't seem to back up half of what he's saying and many men of his age grew up like that and have been living with that ideologie inside of them.

You are 100% correct and i agree that he has some sort of weird bias. i totally picked up on the bias so just saying i affirm your comment. its pretty laughable that the genius huberman fails to recognize that correlation doesn't prove causation and we also have studies and anecdotal claims which show that bipolar and people with mental health problems are more attracted to weed which casts more doubt on this idea that weed directly causes bipolar. because of course the studies only show a correlation and there's zero evidence that weed permanently stunts your development. if anything alcohol would be more likely to do that, and huberman has taken a much more relaxed stance on teenage alcohol use while admitting that he drank in highschool. it's pretty insane that huberman is still spreading this kind of racist ideaology. and i agree weed is not good, but you can 100% recover from adolescent abuse if you aren't already predisposed to schizophrenia etc. it's sad that he spreads this harmful ideaology under the guise of 'protecting' kids. zero kids are gonna listen to anything he says because he already demonizes it and demonstrates that he has bias. again im saying this as someone who will agree that weed is not healthy and no one should be smoking it if they can help it.

By having some time to focus on a date prior to quitting and telling people you are going to quit on that date gives some time to build mental fortitude around that time, so that when it comes you are much more ready to quit rather than saying 'I'lll quit tomorrow' and then relapsing straight away. This is so sad to read. You are still a child. Stay away from all of this. It could get much worse if you don't - you could go into psychosis or develop schizophrenia. I'm glad you found fitness/sport, that is a healthy avenue to channel your energy. Religion and spirituality can also help.
Don't despair - your brain can and hopefully will recover as long as you stay away from cannabis/substances.
I had several cannabis-induced psychotic episodes as a teenager. Thereafter, I had several years of strong anxiety as a result of my heavy cannabis use. It took years, but thankfully, my brain did recover, and I live a productive and healthy adult life (I'm in my mid-30's now). Wish you all the best.

First time I had weed was on my 19th birthday. I hit my friends dab pen and it was really fun and exciting. Now since my lifestyle has changed a bit and it is always around me. It became at least a once a day thing for over a year. Now I only smoke it before and after I go to the gym. Especially if I have any pre workout I need to smoke to fall asleep. I’m 21 now and decided to keep weed and pre workout only for weekends if I want to graduate as a mechanical engineer. I’ve quit cold turkey multiple times before and I’ve noticed drastic improvement in consistent energy levels and specifically math processing speed when not smoking for at least 5 days straight. Cannabis like most other consumables is best used in moderation.

If I had started my freshman year of high school I feel like I probably wouldn't have any self-control of it, bc once you turn 18 and are out of high school, on your own, everything changes. Responsibilities get blasted in your face, shit gets real. And you have to deal with that, learn from it, before letting Mary Jane dismiss your problems. shrooms are also great! But use both wisely.

17 started smoking daily at 16 and recently quit around a month ago. After a long period of time using cannabis and suddenly going cold turkey I found quitting wasn't too difficult ironically. It's all a mental game, you have to find healthy happy habits to replace your old ones. Quitting has made my mind very clear, I feel my memory is sharper than ever, and the small pleasures in life are enjoyable again. Many people in my life who I've seen use cannabis become blinded and get so caught up in their usage that they can't realize how severely this drug affected their own lives. As bad as Cannabis may not seem, it is a drug that shouldn't be trifled with at a young age. Keep your body strong, purify your mind, seek inner peace, and be patient. Wait till you're 25 years old, then allow yourself to indulge as much as you like. Make good choices everyone :)

I am quitting for my new dream in life to become an EMT. I believe you can quit whenever you want, while it may be hard; try to plan for the withdrawals in advance. I will say, I will notice the cognitive downsides as I feel a lot dumber. I currently play a sport have a job and get decent grades while planning for the future. Weed has not made me lazy but has made me dumber and happier and once. It definitely depends on your character on how you let it affect you. I wish you all a farewell as I hit my pen.

I'm 17 and been smoking for a couple years now. First time I ever smoked I was in my woodshop class in HS and my friend had a cart with him. I was instantly hooked. getting high in class risking getting caught by my teacher was a blast. I felt smarter, more confident and and more accepting of the way things were in life. Not to mention the intense body high I can't get anymore. last year I was having terrible stomach aches 24/7 and dropped significant weight but I didn't care to much because I just got high and lived through it until my parents decided to take me to a doctor and I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I eventually got medication to limit the inflammation in my lower intestine, but my appetite has completely vanished. Of course smoking gives me the munchies and I rely on that. without it i feel full even if I haven't eaten in days. often there are weeks where im only sober when asleep, and every waking hour im high. I wake up and smoke so I eat breakfast, then keep smoking because I convince myself id have more fun doing everything high. but i dont see myself stopping anytime soon unfortunately.

I started blaming antipsychotics for my diminished cognitive ability or I blamed my bipolar depression (cuz I was diagnosed with schizoaffectif disorder bipolar type) but after this video I realize it was the weed all along.
Some advice: if you must smoke, avoid sativa, smoke indica it has less THC, but if you want to quit, see an addictologist and work witj antipsychotics to quit faster, or smoke CBD only.

There are definitely times where I felt like I was depending on weed for my mental health but there are also been times where I feel like its helped me out of depressive episodes. Im stuck between deciding if I want to quit or not. People state they have so many benefits physical and mentally but I am a bit weary. I am in the best physical shape of my life right now, power building 5 times a week. I hate that people blame their unwillingness to get physically fit on weed. I also am on honor roll at my university and get amazing sleep with vivid dreams every night. I am definitely a little bias because my whole life I've been told potheads are lazy. So I've always wanted to disprove that. I guess im just curious how much weed really is affecting my life.

If a part of you wants to because you think it would improve your quality of life, definitely go for it. If it's just external pressure from others, then it just depends on how valuable that is for you. In my experience, if a part of me wants to quit, no matter how small, then what's holding me back isn't logic, but rather anxiety around living without it +symptoms of dependency.
