"You have a face only your mother could love"
Sheesh talk about humiliating a guy in front of the whole class
I went straight for the comments after hearing that. What a wanker.
What's a fucking douchebag of a professor..fucking u professional to the core
That whole comment just had me like 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤭
Wooow I couldn’t believe he said that. That’s terrible.
@@Lolee56 me too
"You have a face only your mother could love"
Nope this video is canceled there's noway i'll continue watching this
And he needs to stop clowning those poor Asians
His course is about this
Topic is super interesting in these classes but his comments are often cringey
Teacher is cringey in general
No man, the teacher is great like a referee, i like it
People pay thousands of dollars to attend a lecture like this? I’d rather learn online for these kinds of minor subjects
Kaye Musume No, these sorts of classes are usually a bonus type class or just side class they need to take. So you pay thousands for your core, important classes, and then you get these too
How can you be in one of these lectures and be bored . Is what I'm trying to understand
All these close-ups to bored ppl got me confused
Because, people in general, are interested in topics closely relatable to themselves. He has the full attention students of asian students, but caucasian students, probably not.
@B. KCee Yeah I understand where you're coming from. But look from the perspective of his professor. He clearly doesn't want to be one of those old-school dry mouthed professors just rambling on and on from powerpoint. I don't agree with his methodology, but I appreciate his attempt to keep his audience engaged.
D W yea tbh I agree with you. I just started watching these vids for fun on my free time and I get the sense the kids know it’s all in good fun and entertainment. The comments to the “Asian hulk” guy were a little strong but we all make mistakes and the prof seems so laid back he probably doesn’t give a shit to begin with. Generally speaking from his other vids, he does seem to air on the side of considerate and kind I will add.
@J you are too sensitive. Go watch something else
He's kinda mean but tries to play it off with jokes
Madison C and has a bias for his white peeps
Horrid comment no matter what context but especially in a college setting.
Dude needs to stop using the word “bro” ! It’s annoying!
This guy keeps on making racist jokes but I’m pretty sure the people are laughing like “omg did he really just say that???” rather than “ lol so funny “
Welcome to "Casual Racism 101"
I take it back, check this out: czcams.com/video/V8jgPaCWMXU/video.html
Dude... Get a grip. No racism here. Unless you freaking nitpick and great intention that's not there.
Not at all. Everyone has an ethnic background. The teacher is showing to his students how it’s easy to get certain races mixed up because of the similar body/facial features and it’s how some can get easily offended. I mean we’re all human and we make mistakes which is why we shouldn’t get easily offended just because someone labeled you incorrectly.
Someone thought I was buddhist when i was in middle school. I’m filipino. Did I get offended? No, not at all. You correct the person and hop to your next task.
But the teacher needs to tone down the dog, bro and dude colloquial terms.
Xiao-Meng Wang
This Sociology class is wack though. You pay thousands to get lectured this way? I’d rather go to a community college.
If you're asian and saying this is racist.....stop being butt-hurt, go get some self-confidence, and come back. There's no racism here, its sociology. The more educated people are about culture and race, the less we give people a reason to make ignorant judgement about us asians. This professor is brilliant
His comments are just ridiculous. As someone who majored in anthropology I couldn't imagine those comments in my classroom. I think at the end it was interesting to say "how do you know they're international?" because that can start a conversation but I just can't take this seriously. Also, if felt like he was trying way too hard to be cool.
What's the point of this lecture, because I don't understand this.
“hE’s noT mY BRoTheR” like okay, bro. Damn. I’m sure he doesn’t want to be your brother, either.
Ikr?
Exactly.
Funny for the most part and all in good fun obviously but little parts like "do you eat kimchi?" feel out of place and cringey
I've watched a few of these videos, the professor always needlessly insults guy's looks. Like, do you think the guy at 00:25 came to class wanting to be called ugly? Do you think the Asian guys who've been made fun of their whole lives for having small eyes like it when you ask if they can see out of those things?
Does he eat lasagna
Yeah and when he couldnt hear that the guy said Leo and blamed it on "oh it's the L's" Like no stupid u probably just have hearing issues already cus ur old, he said it very clearly
@@deobitiny6884 I think he heard him right, but just wanted to make a point that the student has issues pronouncing "l". He says that he will talk about that later, meaning how Asians have a hard time with that specific pronunciation.
@@jackiec1175 But he didn't have any issue pronouncing L? That dude sounded fluent in English. The only reason Asians have issues pronouncing certain things is if their native language doesn't use those certain sounds and the person is not really fluent in English.. The same could literally go for any person who speaks a different first language than English, it has nothing to do with actually being Asian and assuming those things is ignorant.
I love how nonchalantly the prof calls the "Asian hulk" guy ugly. LOL
The worst thing
The “I’m One of you guy” had me in tears.😂😂😂
I was laughing so hard when the boy in the white shirt said “ my name is Leo - lee -O like the lion 😂😂🤣 omg that’s just made my day .
What class is this sounds interesting I would like to take it
Wow.. American joke feels very offensive. Did they feed u kimchi.. Thats sounds realy.....
Agree with you. Absolutely unneccessary & pointless.
Dude did he get fired yet ? whats the point of this bro? dude ? like Bro? I know right ..
Dwayne Lowe nope.
The Korean guy with the hat is hot 🔥😍
I'm Chinese Canadian, and I love watching these videos, give me a good perspective of why and how people look at different cultures, looks different. keep up the good work.
Man that teacher is having time of his life
Why does he say they should be able to tell them apart because theyre also Asian. Can he tell a Dutch person from a Danish person ?
That girl with a cap does not sound like someone born and raised in Hong Kong.
I think the professor has an Asian fetish or Yellow fever lol. He’s obsessed with Chinese and Korean. I wish he would of brought up other Asian group such as southeast Asian and how different looks between Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laos and Thailand. That be funny, if you see that professor in Thailand nightclub with lady boys.
Well he teaches eastern studies so that must be surprising that he talks alot about asians
He focuses on East Asia and Chinese, Korean because Asian and Chinese are important and a lot of American don’t really know much about them
Well if you notice Asian countries compared to America Asian countries are way more advanced
Probably cause there's more east Asians than than southeast Asians....
i am trying not to waste my life watching these videos , they are interesting
He always refers to black people as "bro".
@@joshofosho3 and dude...fking trying hard to be relatable.
@@joshofosho3 you're right, my bad.
Where did they get this guy from? Seriously.
9:54 I didn't saw the shade coming . This was fun to watch.
the short Korean-American guy sounds like Ken Jeong, should be a standup comedian LOLOL
I wish I could attend this guy's classes. They seem fun
Thanks for joining our class virtually!
@@SOC119😎
Can you do a who is Irish/German/British/American/etc next? Cause I mean white people are way harder to tell apart then Asians in my opinion :/
Professor Richards is the only other person other than myself I see to use the term American-Korean! It's when your cultural American side overwhelms your Korean ethnic side...
Does it only me who finds the speaker annoying?
What class is this?
I can't believe I got them all right 😂I guess what he said about black people knowing about race is surprisingly true. I'm flabbergasted at myself right now 😂😂😂
I wish he would expand on the lesson from this activity. Without the takeaway, which I'm still not clear on, it's just a spectacle on how hard it is to discern background just by looking at them. Is the lesson here that we shouldn't jump to conclusions based on appearance or that it's ok to do that? Also, this prof is trying too hard to be hip with the "dude, bro" just stop.
That's hard! I can't even tell whose Chinese, (my own people) and I am one, and I have four Chinese brothers!!!
I like the interesting twist in this video, that you get to use their clothing as a good clue. Like how did the second guy know the girl in the hat was Korean when the hat was hiding her face - unless it was because of the hat? lol
I would love to be in this class, legit.
what i got out of this is it is difficult to tell races. You can only tell by the way they dress or make up or styles. If they are all naked, there is no way if they are American Chinese, Or Chinese Chinese or American Korean or Korean Korean.
lol The professor goes "that was close", when it's totally not...
One of the best teacher...yeah not for sensitive peoples but for people who want to enjoy class and learn something
Surprised none of them mentioned skin tanness. By far one of the biggest giveaways about whether an Asian is American or not
12:15 would have had a chance to say "my name is jeff" but wasted it hahahahah
What is it?
did they just pick a random guy of the street to teach this class, he's literally talking bullshit the whole time
his name is sang hoseok 상 호석 thanks to kpop I know how to say that lol not too foreign to me I study Korean
I wanna be in that class so bad
8:27 "Asian Hulk." Lol. Dr. Sam Richards be funny af.
Nowadays many asian americans also follow some fashion trends in asia, especially koreans, so only judging by their style of clothes would make you guess wrong.
That's Bobby Lee next to Asian Hulk
Why is this on my recommended?
it's easy to tell which asians are from the US. Being an asian myself, It's hard to say how we pick this up, I guess it's pure instinct.
It probably comes from the nonverbal gestures, something as small as where you turn your eyes in a public place, your expressions, the way you walk.
So I understand that this lesson is meant to highlight how we look for certain cues to mentally categorise people but "bro", some of the comments by this professor are very unnecessary.
An interesting course, but I would not want to be one of his test subjects.
This professor sounds like a 5 year old who lives in a sheltered little college campus box. Doubt he has actually stepped out of his little box into the real world. Have some respect towards Asians next time buddy.
they made it seem like korean guys are shorter, 'nerdy'er and have longer hair but thats not the usually case. Koreans are usually tallest
@expiller lol i dont even like k-pop, where did that come from? just look at the statistics. koreans are taller than chinese
@@subgicb Relax. it's not a competition.
“Im one of you guys” 😂😂😂😂
Also how the guy was so confused when the 2 girls knew that Jennie was international
"You have a face that only a mother could love"...wtf???
What an ignorant comment. It's the blind leading the blind.
Teaching students by making fun on asians. What a genius idea!
Oh mo Asians aren’t that easy to be made fun of
@@ting9477 it is what it is
I got all the Internstionals right I mixed 3 of the Koreans and Chinese. International women lighten their face, don't show their shoulders, often have not had orthodontic.
What is this mess ? A Racial class ? On how to be racist?
Spain invaded the Philippines for 333 yrs..We r the only asian country with the same lastname with hispanics.
i love this class can i be part of it💜 uk is usless comparing to this
this is actually fun to watch 😂
He's not my brother... Okey....
What are you professor...what type of white are you?
3:39 no matter what boys will be boys.
Off topic, but after watching several videos, I'm wondering if the camera person doesn't understand English, or is just incompetent? The professor... nevermind.
They should do an identify West asians don't you think like south Asian and middle eastern countries??
South East Asians look very different
6:42 and 13:02 This dude is hilarious!
Usually if you are tanned your brought up in the states because a lot of outside activities, and asian Asians hate getting tanned
Also it's nearly impossible to tell from northern Chinese and Koreans, but the majority of American born Chinese are from the southern part of China so that might help getting a better guess
Good exercise
Give me a freaking break
matt has the same last name as me.PARK
This is a bit weird. The average height of men in China is 167.1 cm (5 ft 6 in). It is 174.6 cm (5 ft 8+1⁄2 in) in South Kore (Wikipedia). There's over 2 in difference and the two Korean guys are like super short in this sample.
that's because it's a tiny sample size. you can't make comparisons with only 4-6 people.
Average height of men in China at 19 years old is 175cm
Think about the sheer China population compare to Korean
@@audenchu6558 where is that data?
@@mjj0829 is new, just post by China last year. Also that is the average height for 19 years old for whole china. The northern chinese in Shangdong area may over 180 cm
so cool 😂 all cool
y all cool hehe xd
I love your streams Mr.Professor
"I have white parents, I am one of you guys" lmao!!
Talk about BTS and how they as Asian is attractive and how kpop in general it works.... Kpop = Korean
Tbh not all Koreans are attractive. Indian And Pakistani actors look better.
Just wait until he hit a jack pot with getting a Malaysian Chinese as an example XD things will get complicated real quick.
I'm Mizo tribe..we are the Race of Chinese.. Northeast India are different from mainland India
aww that 4 girls are so pretty specially that international chinese girl but the boys not honestly just saying :D
This class makes the Jerry Springer Show look intellectual! Referring to one of your students as another's "black brother" is not cool. Saying to another "you have a face only your mother could love" not cool. Leaning on a student and squeezing his muscles "look at these fuc*ing guns" creepy! Calling your students bro, dude.... I hope parents of these students check out these videos and demand this pathetic professor gets fired.
a very well-documented case of the liberal drawl
casual racism... i feel that he’s the one that think he’s talking about enlightenment but actually being racist from the root
Literally, the comment about black people knowing everything about race and asians ‘not knowing your own people’. So insensitive and stupid.
0:24 Brutal
I believe he is on the closer side of non-racist considering his previous videos, but his offensive remarks that he uninowingly makes may imply that even those aduots who claim to be non-racist might be actually making many racist jokes and giving wrong messages to their children...
I can’t tell if this guy is for Asians or against them
Interesting activity but may be scarring & stigmatizing students directly involved in activity through insensitive comments bordering on microaggressions.
this class is HELLA problematic, but as a Korean-American, i can easily differentiate between people who are Asian-American and who aren't. even other Koreans point out to me that i look Korean-American, not just Korean. i can also tell when a Korean has been raised or is living in, for example, Russia or Singapore. and obviously i can differentiate between Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. it's all in the way the facial features are shaped.
I agree... I’m white but my husband is Korean and i can tell the difference. Koreans look very different than Chinese people do, and the language is not the same and they sound totally different when they talk
I do agree that most of the time you can differentiate between Chinese, Korean and Japanese. Not by facial feature but by social identity, things like the hairstyles, way they speak, outfits, body language, the way they walk, etc... If someone was to show pictures of Asian Men/Women covering their hair and no makeup on their faces, I think it would be impossible to tell. My brother and I, we're Chinese American but we dress very different. I dress very ordinary (a t-shirt jeans and a pair of shoes) but he's more casual. Most times people say I'm Chinese, but for my brother people usually think he's Korean. When we go to Chinatown people will speak Chinese to me, but to my brother people usually try English first. Every time we go to a Korean restaurant together the servers will look at him and speak Korean, not once did they speak Korean to me.
American Asians are often a lot bigger to me.
T Brown bigger like taller or fatter? 😂 and koreans specially are known to be a lot taller than other Asians
Wow so useful and totally not racist
I'm sorry but that first comment on that dudes face was really not nice
Some polish looks like Korea
i think if you come to india people would accept any skin colour eventually.... surely skin colour mocking will occure for some time... but almost in every part of the country people really open up regardless of skin colour.. may be it's because thousands of year old mixed race cohabitation... i don't know... it's racism is there in india as well but it has been made more like a joke rather than a serious topic.. surely finge events dose occurre .. but in general its cool about skin colour.. we already have black indians as black as a black person from Africa and white people as white as a German.. 😁😁😁😁
So cringeworthy everyone is different respect individuality
am 0:23 in....and am out... pretty oblivious to psychological impact for a SOC119 professor.
tyrone loki totally agree. I’ve watched his videos and they are interesting and insightful but he insults the students a lot. He makes fun of Asian names and he wonders why they have American names. Disrespect their family name
@@BUTTERCUPJones IKR for a professor who lectures about inequality, division, and misconception on other cultures/ races, he is so full of himself that he becomes oblivious of his actions, which perpetuates all these things he is "enlightening" his students. smh
Borderline racism.

This man is soo corny and Id call him out, I dont find this funny...just cringy
