Watch all of Mainely Acres videos. He has a lot of experience with this machines and he will answer your questions if you write to him. For parts for these machines he recommends Bantam Saddle and Tack store. They stock parts and improved parts for these machines. I noticed that at the three o’clock position your bobbin action bar shows thru past the bobbin well. That may be one of your problems with breakage of thread. At the three o’clock position the bar should stop right at the end before it goes past the bobbin well.

My assumption is that you have installed the needle correctly, and that the top thread is correctly threaded from the reel through the machine to the needle eye. In addition, the bobbin is correctly wound and inserted in the shuttle so that it rotates counterclockwise when the thread is pulled.
If this assumption is correct, there are two likely reasons for thread breakage.
      1. The needle position at the point of maximum downward stroke.
      2. The timing of the shuttle carrier (This carries the shuttle and bobbin).
      Needle position
Before the next step NOTE the position of the handwheel (12 o’clock) and the shuttle carrier (the tongue or side piece will be at 3 o’clock) Take out the bobbin, shuttle, and shuttle carrier (the piece with the gear/pinion on the underside).
Turn the hand wheel clockwise until the needle is at its lowest position (handwheel at 3 o’clock). At this position, the top of the needle eye should be level with the bottom of the recess that shuttle carrier sits in. This can be difficult to see. A good light and even a magnifier may be helpful.
If the needle eye is higher than this, drop the needle shaft lower. This is done by first locating the connection link at the top of the needle shaft. You will see a screw that passes through the pivot. This screw locks the link to the needle shaft. Slacken this screw and move the needle shaft down so that the needle eye is in the correct position. Tighten the screw, but before doing so make sure that the needle shaft has not rotated. The needle eye needs to face along the bed or arm of the machine.
The maximum downward position of the needle is important as it is part of the movement that forms a loop in the thread that the shuttle hook picks up. If the needle eye is too high, a satisfactory loop is not formed, and may cause the thread to jam between the shuttle and shuttle wall which breaks the thread.
Re-assemble the shuttle carrier in the original position. It may be necessary to slight “rock” the handwheel until the gear/pinion on the shuttle carrier engages with the rack. then insert the shuttle with bobbin.
Timing or position of the Shuttle Carrier
My timing setup differs from the video. It followed the study of the machine movements and the reason for thread breakage. Since, I have found that other owners use the same approach. Also, after resolving the problem, I was able to decipher the Chinese instructions to understand that they use the same timing marks.
To check the timing, open the bobbin cover plate and look down on the shuttle and shuttle carrier. NOTE it is preferable that the needle is not threaded for this check. Rotate the handwheel to the 9 o’clock position. Be accurate with this position. Then visually note the position of the shuttle carrier. You are looking to see if the upright edge of the shuttle carrier is just covering the needle slot. This setting is critical to the functioning of the machine. There is a little latitude in this setting but not more than just beginning to cover the slot to almost fully covering the slot. A wrong position can lead to either the hook not picking up the bobbin thread, or the top thread being trapped below the shuttle and breaking.
The rotational position of the shuttle is adjusted by slackening the two nuts on the bar that moves the rack, which rotates the shuttle carrier. Once the nuts are loosened, the bar can be moved laterally. The bar only needs moving slightly (either way) to rotate the shuttle carrier to the correct position. Re-tighten the nuts, then rotate the handwheel a couple of times. Re-check the alignment of the shuttle carrier with the needle slot. Re-adjust if necessary. You may need to do this a few time to get it right!
When the alignment is correct, the hook on the shuttle will pass through the loop formed by the needle.
Now repeat the routine for picking up the bobbin thread. If the needle stroke position is now correct and the shuttle carrier aligns with the needle slot, the machine should collect the bobbin thread, and importantly, sew without breaking the thread … assuming the threading and tensions are correct.

Hello. Perhaps you can help. I bought the Chinese shoe patch machine in October of 2022. I spent a month watching videos, etc. For some reason I could not get the machine to pick up the bobbin thread. So frustrated I put in the closet for a year. Pulled it out recently, and finally fixed the bobbin thread issue. Once the bobbin pickup worked, then I had an issue of the upper thread breaking. Watched some more videos, and did some intense sanding of all the bobbin parts. That stopped the breaking. Now, the thread is too loose. Before I just immediately tighten the bobbin spring, can you tell what would be causing the bottom thread to be too loose on my finished tests? In fact it was your video that encouraged me to sand everything down and that worked for the breaking.

    • @wesdresen9994
      @wesdresen9994 Před 3 lety +2

@@munfrosty The rod that holds the needle can move up and down. It is held in place by a set screw just below the top of the rod. turn the handle until the needle is at it's lowest position. at that point you should be able to feel the needle below the arm that holds the bobbin. If you can't, loosen that set screw and advance the needle untin you can feel it and tighten the set screw..If you still break thread, advance the needle holder about 1/16" amd try it again. You shouldn't have any problem after that. Good luck.

Please, I need help. I have a brand new one like yours but the handle refuses to turn beyond about one third of a revolution. It came with a sample of stitched fabric, so it must have been working before it was sent. It stops with a clunk.

  • @thomasnewbery7449

Another video (of the many I have viewed) had the owner setting the handle at 12 0' clock position and then the bobbin cup was placed into its well with its "wall" centered at the 3 0'clock position. It looked like your index mark was one tooth out (towards you,) when you dropped the cup into the well judging by the index marks you had made. This may have led you to trim that wall to make it work. Just sayin! Hope I'm wrong!
