    Can't wait for the next episode now I can't figure out or I didn't hear what caused it to lock up when you put the new starter in your head to have the Is fly wheel in again

    • @JamesPretty
      @JamesPretty  Před 2 lety

      Flywheel was pinched against a housing bolt head

  • @morgansword
    @morgansword Před 2 lety +3

    James, I ain't no go to guy... what worked for me was ignorance. I just kept trying till things worked and that was that. I did have to use the spacer on the starters for sure. I was told so did it that way every time possible as some things are just never in your favor... I was told to dial indicate the flywheel when installing and it did make a difference.. I was real surprised at how much it did make to have it done that way but that said, the few I didn't do that ... they ran out great. I used to have a air starter for the shop as its easier to drag a airline than batteries. And then here comes story time.. I built a 350 and had it ready to install in a rig when time came to need one. It sat on a stand for most probably three or four months. Guess what... locked up tighter than dicks hat band! Old guy came over laughing at me frustrated thinking I did something bad wrong putting it together. He told me that even engines that have ran a bit which I did start them after building one, he told me that everything is tight on a fresh engine so they do stick if sat for a bit. Best to go over and just turn it over every now an then.... he said that after they were well broke in, it didn't happen as often but if still fairly new, they will still stick... after worn in good, they don't tend to stick. Clearances are greater after worn a hundred thousand miles. Back to those flywheels, I seen them run out a quite a bit even though tightened proper an not over tightened. Just recently my boy changed the tire on his shit pile ranger... a hundred dollar get you there maybe truck.. he just walked that rim on going in a perfect circle, I know thats not what you did on the flywheel, anyway I told him to just loosen it back up and do it right... well he said hell its fine so off to walmart for watermelon an some cookies for me. (hell of a sweet tooth in my old age) That front end on the shit pile shook me in my seat but he is damn near sixty now so its one of those he knows best things... I jacked the damn thing up and turned the wheel with him looking at it... .he said its bent... I tightened it right an it turned just fine... did he learn anything??? I would put dollars against dog crap he never... and his job is building huge convery and overhead cranes,, stuff like that including he was the lead on the harley shop in Minnesota... he ain't no dummy but he sure can try me...
    I do have a funny story about my age and birth certificate.... takes a bit to tell but might explain the age of my boy compared to my age/LOL
