Third instalment to the guide series, we will be looking at energy and how to use it.
I won't be covering how to use energy in a dogfight or in a more manoeuvrable plane as that defeats the purpose of the video. Might cover in the next or the one after that.

You're a legend.
I noticed you were using "Armoured Targets" ammo belt for the soviet 20mm, is that what youd recommend for those against planes?
Seems odd to me, but then again, since they nerfed the ammo belt composition of them Ive found those 20mms to be really unrealiable in dealing damage.

Now tracers are better again for shvaks

There is a real scarcity of good learner’s guide after Longsh0t stopped uploading. Good to see someone making beginners guides like his that’s up to date.
There is not a such thing like "up do date" in the bfm tactics.
@@JG27Korny exactly. Tactics will ever be the same, only planes performances will change due to Gaijin´s nerf and buff hammer.
long5hot's guide is pretty much enough to understand everything in props.

Good guy Defyn postpones his own death just to deliver
I was like a schoolkid learning something new, and I've been playing since 2013 (and I thought I knew what E-Fighting was). Totally on a different level of understanding. Thanks Defyn
Same here I sucked before I watched this
As a noob, my biggest mistake was generalizing planes too much. It wasn't until I finally played enough to where I was familiar with most planes that I started to get better.
Not all Fw 190's are the same, nor are all Spitfires. In general, Spitfires turn much better than a 190, and 190's are generally much faster. But at certain BR's this is not always true. Assuming because I was in a Fw 190, I could outrun any Spitfire and assuming because I was a Spitfire, I could out turn a 190 were the cause for many a death before I started memorizing stats of planes in more detail.
Also, Gaijin stat cards don't mean shit. Just because your plane SHOULD be 20kph faster than the plane chasing you, it doesn't mean that it actually is. Not to mention, if your plane is spaded and the enemy isn't, or vice versa, plane stats don't really mean a thing.
insightful! the other day I saw a Japanese plane high altitude, I didn't recognize the planes name. I thought well I won't try to out turn it, but my plane has excellent engine power, I'll try for an energy trap. the trap lasted a few turns, and he was slowly gaining more energy than me! after dying and googling it, the wiki reads "unlike most Japanese planes, this is not a turn fighter, but must use its excellent thrust to weight ratio for energy fights. what a face palm😂😂
@@billrobert3226my guess is it was a j2m2
I love-hate how much situational dogfighting is: you could be the best pilot in the world, but if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you're dead.
Just wanna say this 3 guides not only made me go back/properly start playing air realistic it also made start enjoying it again, thanks a lot
Good cover of the basics, showing different outcomes. Classy animations ;P

Hi Adam. How are you?
@@mpk6664 Good you?
Oh hi adam :D
@@AdamTheEnginerd Pretty decent :)
When I saw this video I realized I was doing more or less the same things you do instinctively! but I did them wrong.
*Now I can do them right.*
Thank you!
Good to hear :^)
@@DEFYN Yep, thanks! Now after this August at the village I'mma go back to war thunder and lose all matches despite starting with a Chaika and yelling ZERO OP when I fight Japanese with my Yak 9u
Rico It’s not the zero that’s OP, it’s the Reppu lol
Meh the reppu got nerfed quite hard a bit ago
DEFYN It still has a high winrate and is almost unstoppable against Russian Aircraft excluding the I-225, I-185s and one other, (I don’t know what the last one is, I tried to look it up on the wiki and got no answers).
i watch these kinda videos 8 times over like i will retain any of the info. its so fucking hard
Your guides helped me to improve as a pilot a lot in just a couple of days! I definitely found way more success fighting with energy in mind, i even just stalled someone for the first time and gunned them down! It felt like such a thrill, my adrenaline is still going crazy! Now i see why people like planes so much, it's hella fun, when you know what you are doing, so huge thanks for making those guides, i just might start to truly enjoy and appreciate planes because of you :)
This is probably the best form of instructional guide I have seen for Air. The graphical simplifications backed by real-world examples really made the points much more clear and evident to me. At least for me, this was better than just the typical "1 vs 12 ACE Carry kIlLeR Plane" videos that are more common for the game. Now if only I can break a lot of my bad habits that you pointed out for me. Much appreciated.
Being a newb, I'm seeing nearly every mistake I've made from the perspective of those who murked me... learned a lot.
I love these how-to's. Been playing for years and I still desperately need these.
I was climbing in my k-4 and watching this video. Right after I baited an enemy I pulled off an energy trap the way you did. Thanks for the guide!
K4 is my favorite
Very good video for those in matches who definitely need to learn this. It helps with the betterment of the entire community.
These learner guides are great, I really struggle with judging enemy planes energy and often die because I misjudge energy levels.
Just wanted to say thanks. Watching your videos has completely changed the game for me.
Oh man, i can't thank you enough. Although I'm at over 1400 hours of War Thunder i still feel like i'm in the learning phase. I think my and actually most peoples problem is that "we" play too kill-thirsty. We'd rather dogfight a plane we can't outurn just because of energy loss than play smart and maybe pass on a kill. Extremely helpful, keep it up!
Thank you for teaching me how to fly Dolphin!

Love these videos Defyn. I hope you make more, maybe showcasing more advanced and niche manuevers. Would be awesome to watch. Love your content.
Finally I found a guide on how to fight properly, I've been looking and searching for a guide and stumbled upon this by accident just today. Thanks a lot for this well-explained video :)
Loves these videos in this playlist the most.
Would love an updated version of your first video about what are the best premium planes to buy and talismans. I watched it while looking atthe current tech trees.
Meta, BRs & many new planes really call for a new video!
Love this in depth guides. Keep it up!
Yeah definately do more of those examples. That would be absolutely great!
just installed the game recently and was mind blown on how good these tactics work. all i did was spiral until i eventually get shot down. Thankyou! i will be practicing these
still playing after 2 years
Thank you for your tips, It helped me get a lot better at the game, im now much more confident in fighting more maneuverable planes.
Very informative vid. I am amazed that despite all the stuff out there people still like to do them silly spiral chases. Although I like when they do lol. For me, you can skip on animations. Very good skills on your part, I couldnt do em myself, but as u said takes a lot of time and effort. Very good stuff and keep em coming, specially in regard to US tree line, since they dont retain speed in verticals that well. Thx for your work dutchman!!!!
I notice in game, at least as a new player, there is an idea that some planes are energy fighters and others are not. This video helps clean that up and shows that all fighting is energy fighting. Good job, excellent video. Have fun and keep improving 😉
ur the goat. id like to thank you for guiding me to improve my gameplay. as a console player i rarely got a single kill, but with your help and some button bind changes i pull 2-4 kils regually. keep the amazing content going
That's what they're for )
Thanks
Appreciate the time and effort you put into this.
This video and the examples are super helpful! I must’ve watched them 5 times already in the past 2 days. Could you make a video similar to this, but applying book and zoom tactics? I seem to struggle picking the right target as I dive too low for one and pull up too sharply.
Saw you in a Match and checked your Account because someone recognized you. Good tutorials! Keep up the good work!
I only just recently started playing the game and your videos are very helpful. Thank you
Dude thank you so much for this video! I now have a few more tricks in my pocket to fly the P-47 to its full potential
I really needed a video like this thx defyn i respect the amount of effort you put on these videos
Thanks )
Thank You It may take some Time and Practice to Apply your Teaching in the Actual Gameplay but it Really Help a Lot Thanks for Doing a Lot of Effort Making this Videos
Hurried through the tutorials and thought I was decent, but after watching this, my tactics completely changed and I got so many more kills. Came back just to say that
Thanks so much for this video. I have been "flying" sims for over 30 years, but this is really good and useful info, it's something I have rarely done, specially in War Thunder, maybe because of the grind, you try to go to get something even if you lose instead of trying to win and end up empty handed.
Just getting into air gameplay after 900 hours of ground, this is very helpful thank you
I feel like every pilot I go against plays like you and my team plays like the players you kill, most games typically end with me and one other teamate left with 5 enemies who refuse to split up from eachother and if they do they often just use their spawn aa's as much as possible
This video was super helpful took my game from noob to pro in like 4 hours
The best video and the best teacher. Thank you, you are making me enjoy the game!
I have over 2 days in fighters but I played pretty casually and this is still definitely useful!
Thanks for teaching me how to fly. Now I feel like performing differently everytime I go into combat. Kudos
Goeie video en duidelijk uitgelegd dank!!!

energy fighting is very effective. Good guide DEFYN, very informative.
ahahaha.... the mushroom cloud at the headon..... brilliant. Also, happens a lot. Like, all the time. This is extremely valuable information... thanks mate!
Appreciate you putting the imperial info in the video!
Great video! Will try some of these, thanks!
This is excellent, thank you.
Good stuff dude. Thanks for the informative video.
Very eye opening stuff, great job :)
thank you so much:) very nice video, i can see you put a lot of effort in it:) keep it up!
Very good video. That showcase at 15 minutes in is very reminiscent of ye olde magz energy video. Good stuff.
Well I basically ripped it off lmao
Well done sir, I enjoy your videos, and I have learned a lot from them, which made me a better airRB player.
The first match i applied these tips i got 4 kills, and knew what too do when an enemy comes head on. Knowing what to do with energy is as important as having it. Your tips are much appreciated
Great video man, keep it up!
Thank you so much for your guides.
another great explanatory video, defy!
especially loved your chicken scratching!
heh
Dude this content is great and well made.
great content man, thanks for some 2020 stuff
Awesome, Loving these videos!
Love these!. Would love some more!
Such a good video helped a lot and nice accent
It's insane how much there is to this compared to ground or naval which is pretty damn simple. I just hope I can apply this to myself with my current yak-3
this video really helped me!
This is the earliest ive been on any video
Great video. I am new to the game and have energy fought by accident in the P-36 and Gladiator II, but whenever I do it on purpose I screw up. Now I have some idea of how to get it right.
Your regular vids are really instructional and this is even more. I notice one thing you never lose control because of blackout. I am sure this not just due to crew but on how you fly and this would be very interesting. I lose my targets and dogfights because i blackout
insightful. Nice one
You are amazing my friend.
Subscribed, this is pretty great.
Any guide helps improve game . Thank u
you are the one of the helpfull channel i have ever seen
really good stuff. very helpful
2-3 years later, still helpful !!!
its looks soo nice +easy and i need lot of training, thx 4 helping, thats mak the game better. greetz+like
great videos! thanks for sharing!
You should maybe do a smaller quide on clibing, that could include the following: the importance of climbing (even though it is mentioned right here), how to climb in props, should you side climb and if so by how much, what are the differences of climbing in a jet rather than a prop and that at what speed should you climb.
I will in the future
Congrats on 40k
As much as I like to meme you. I really do hope people watch this and try and learn something. I hate seeing people at all BR ranges play so poorly when it comes to air combat. well done.
Great video, thanks
I definitely need this to learn the difficult 109s
How tf are they difficult? Their the easiest plane to use dude
Great examples, I see so many errors I made in my War Thunder career.
And here I am 2 years later getting a refresher!
Yes please, more examples with commentary. It seems helpful, although I’m not sure I’m good enough to take advantage :D.
youre a great teacher. subbed.l
Perfect explanations.
Nice video Defyn, I even think your video more understandable than longshot video, but also sad that almost every A7M pilot almost fight like in 16:42 scene v:
Nice really nice!
I've watched this video like 7 times now
I must say, the level of English here is amazing. Of course you can still tell that he's from Holland, but I'm really impressed because it's not the standard Dutch-English. Good job mate!
these tuorials are great

I'm a tanker and play Planes very rarely and mostly in arcade but despite having low interest into Flying for sure ill give a like and sub for the good work.
