  • I am still here, I apologize for being so quiet, things have been tough and I am just getting things sorted out,
    video on the power hacksaw refurbishment to come!
    Viewer Q&A to come soon too, just need more Q to give the A :p, Patrons go first then I pick from the YT comments
    No the DT50 is not mine, and I stupidly passed up a Boys 55cal AT rifle last year, but its on the to-do list when I actually have money.. $2500 for a rifle that feels like a guy smacking you with a 2X4 is not a bad deal given I see how much people put into match 22lr rifles that would struggle to stop a feral cat, much less a truck.

    That merc engine is the reason i dont visit scrapyards anymore. I find myself thinking 'right, pick that engine up, bolt to big generator motor, paint it all nice and get it running good, sell as many hp diesel generator for megabucks.
    Suddenly its months later and im staring at piston rings, pcb's and c section girders wondering why i got myself into this mess

    So I'm watching a dude walking around a scrap yard, picking up anything that is made out of metal and being able to identify what is that 99% of the time, while also rambling about other things.
    And I'm enjoying it.
    How do you do this?!

    It's tragic to see the mills in the pile. I saved my lathe from going to scrap, an ARAD, with 3 meter bed and 500 mm swing (!) . it came with a full set of ISCAR tooling .It's big size meant no one but me wanted it and weighing 4 tons means it took a lot of effort to shift it . I am looking for a smallish mill now ,and only last year i saw several American mills going off to scrap as a small shop closed down . The scrappy wouldn't sell to me.. :-(

    • @Aussie50
      @Aussie50  Před 6 lety

      yeh its a shame about the mills, but purely horizontal mills arent that sought after anymore. the bridgeport style/turret mills are the way to go unless you have a specific kind of job that needs a horizontal quite frequently. those ones would have easily been 3 tons each, much bigger than they look.

    • @Mercmad
      @Mercmad Před 6 lety

      I was looking around for one of those smaller Aussie made horizontal ones, which were in Tafes back in the dark ages.Cant remember the name off hand but they might have been John Heine . I have seen one of two pop up for sale but they get snapped up pretty quick. As some one said, there's no recession in the grey nomad world. One tafe thing I did get from a scrappie though was a Heenan and Froude dyno ,Ex NSW tafe . In almost new nick, I sold it on to a bloke who was restoring old English car engines. At 3 mtrs in length it was a bit ambitious for my uses. ha ha N
