- The first video kinda sucked and was out of focus, so I did a bit better second time around.
I am still testing and checking a lot of things, I have a lot more detailed videos to come. the engine runs well, needs a good clean and service but its fine. - Věda a technologie
What an awesome sound, great running motor and easy start.
Engine sounds amazing but you might want to check the oil sump / pump cause there's no oil getting to the rockers . Great to have you back man
Sounds and runs amazingly well. Love watching it without the valve cover as well.
Its a beast of an engine for its size, only 4 - 5 lt or so. just low RPM, 1500 rated for the alternator.
You and me both love the sound of this old girl, the lack of a cover on the top of the engine just seems right..
Nice, it very much sounds german right down to the starter sound.
Wow! Really glad you decided to bring this home! Seeing that thing putt along gives me a kick in the ass to get back working on my CAT generator.
Yay another Aussie video... It's like youtube coming back to life, all we need now is the return of a happy Photon and wife and the internet will be complete.
Wicked sounding engine too, reminds me of old Gardner powered buses. Big diesels are just the best.
sadly there will be no more😔
@@CRAIG86 Yep, said it before but the world is a poorer place for his passing.
Bro. Great sounding engine. Love the sound of a old diesel.
Ah that good old ticking valve system. Love it. Want to hear it go to 0:50 for start up and 1:11 for that ticking chime. Thanks Aussie50.
Very nice machine, Kämper was famous for his light truck and marine engines, very HQ!
the way you treat that dog shows what a good bloke you are. Also bloody awesome genset.
I love the little squeal it makes when it runs
That was amazingly quiet for a diesel engine! Just mechanical tippety-tap noises! It also looks to have the "salt shaker" style manual glowplug indicator that the older Mercedes Benz diesels used prior to the W123 automatic glow systems.
The “salt shaker“ is a standard part made by Hella, used on all kinds of diesel powered machinery.
Man that german diesel trademark sound
Runs beautifully! The fact it starts easily means it's in good shape mechanically. Compression's good etc.
Baddriversoz and it doesn’t have the “skip” that comes with bad compression; i would probably change the oil and filter, and check the oil pressure just to be safe.
Yup, sounds like a plan, basic diesel service. THOSE things are made from MACHINED parts turned from forged steel! NOT like cheap Chinese diesels made from DIE cast parts!
The forged, machined motors like this basically NEVER wear out!
Baddriversoz and it also helps that this engine was designed and built by Germans; who are widely regarded as the very best when it comes to engineering.
Ja! herr gut! Goes without saying!
I thought it was the fact that it's a german built engine. They start with no hesitation even after sitting and are bulletproof.
Nice vintage engine sounds, great stuff.
Just finished my 7 day shift, this is music to my ears! Love ya work mate! G'day from East
gippy....
That is a great sounding engine. Loved this one, Ed.
And, just like "that", it comes back to life! Another engine resurrected. Looking forward to seeing were this project goes....Cheers!
Rip. Your doggo is lonely now. You left him alone :(
Can't wait to see more bud. Keep it up 🍻 definitely worth the wait.
Wow it sounds great! Those glow plugs look similar to the Bosch ones that my International B414 tractor uses. They are wired in series all the way back through the indicator. If any plug or the indicator fails then they all don’t work. Really unusual setup by today’s standards. I love old Diesel engines they are such a simple machine and incredibly reliable
Very nice Ed! Thanks for sharing! Lucky you with this kind of scrapyards. ;)
I have no need for such a thing, but I can't help but think how cool it would be to own and mess about with :) Good purchase mate
Great sounding engine that thing will run for days on end . Your dog is awesome .
Great stuff mate! Best of luck with getting her back to full power.
I sure enjoy your videos I hope you can continue producing them.
Beautiful engine! Runs pretty well by the sound of it.
Mate the thing is a beauty! Tell ya what though the open rockets remind me of the U96 Dad boot music video lol! Keep it up mate glad your back.
I got the same vibe, from Das Boot :D. I watched it on netflix last week :D
Aussie50 good man!
Oh is it on Netflix? I know what I’m doing tonight
I love the sound of an old diesel
BRAVO ! Great fun ! Like the man said, watch the oil pressure...make sure she's getting oil to the top end !
oh, and Welcome back ! I love your videos !
SBF
Whoa...I can't believe that thing actually started!
awesome to see that thing run again!!!
Seems amazingly good for something found on a scrap pile but that's the way things go these days. Chucked out for all sorts of reasons beyond being worn out or no good.
Awww love your dog give him a hug from us all on CZcams
Cool scrapyard rescue. ticks over nicely at fairly low RPM
You’re back. Awesome.
Wow that thing is quiet and runs like a clock, nice!
What an amazing sound!
I love the sound it makes.Sweet!
Sweet runner! Nice one 👍
Doggo has grown a lot since the last vid she was in.
Like the soun d of it starting, as well as it sounds like it belongs in a fishing boat.
Welcome back your the best 😊
Does the generator get hot from internally shorted windings? Just curious
Runs like a dream
That may come in very handy this summer. There are eight or nine 4 megawatt diesel generators being installed around the peninsular at the moment to try and avoid blackouts. I have two petrol generators now in case of rolling blackouts.
Is it that bad in australia? or is it only about rural areas?
Morbus Bahlsen It's bad because back in the 1970's Australians thought black outs and expensive electricity were a thing of the past . Now ,thanks to bad decisions by ill informed politicos, it's back with a vengeance as we are draped across the barrel and raped.
Mercmad that's fucked up, i always thought america is really bad (in terms of delevoped countries) because of the powergrid structure. I live in Germany so blackouts do not happen often and mostly not many are affected. It is not perfect but i had maybe 3 blackouts in my entire life so far, 4 if u count in that i switched 10kv to Ground at work... was only 5 Minutes and right before end of work :D atleast our breakers are faster than the provider ones as they should be.
closing Hazelwood power station ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazelwood_Power_Station ) hasn't / wont help things this summer, why do you think the victorian government rushed the smart meters in, so they can turn your power off by the "smart meter" with so called "Rolling blackouts".
@@Islandwaterjet Smart meters in Australia DO have contactors built in that allow the power company to connect and disconnect
www.powercor.com.au/media/1426/about-smart-meters-june-2012.pdf
Switching the power on
Smart meters can switch your electricity
supply on or off remotely, for example when
you move house. These services are much
cheaper and more convenient than having to
pay the cost of a truck visit.
What a bloody ripper ED!
fuck yeah, love old diesels. Good find mate
She's a good runner at least! Not sure if the alternator will be any good for ya, but for the engine I'd say you've got your money's worth already. Have you tested the output leads, ed? Can't wait to see where you take this project! Hopefully you can get some power out of her.
RIP man :(
Will you be doing a complete tear down and repair of the engine and generator, or are ya just gonna repair the burnt out winding and leave it as-is?
Its not worth rewinding as far as I can tell, I will make some enquaries but more than likely its going to stay as it is
Aussie50 ah okay, that’s cool. On another note I’m really surprised at how little sludge there is under the valve cover, great find
Sounds good!
Holy shit that sounds amazing!
Does it have a valve cover?
was about to ask if its not firing on a few then you touched the throttle and it picked them up now we just need to see some output
Nice! It's 3 AM here, sorry for the lack of comment.
That’s wicked man
Idles right nice!
What make is the engine? Sounds lovely! It sounds like a much larger U-boat engine!
Mmmmmm, niiiiiiiiice sound on that beast!
I'm not seeing a lot of oil to the rocker gear, how much oil pressure do you have?
would you look at that, she chooches!
wow it runs!
Poor dog, like mine---the more thrashing and motion the more confusing. He attacks vacuum cleaners. Big rottweiler. was the kemper at generation speed, love that rythm
Wow. Beautiful. Thanx.
Sounds good 👍:)
That is amazing.
I'm surprised how quiet that engine idled and how rapidly it fired up. How loud is it at generation speed?
is that its rated running rpm? that sure is slow
Does it oil those valves somehow? Or do you need to oil the valves every now and then?
Hene193 oil gets forced through the pushrods and onto the rockers and valve springs; a lot of people fail to realize that this is likely the first time this engine has been running in a long time, so it’s going to take a little running of the engine to get oil back up to the valvetrain.
That's pretty interesting
Niceeeeee. I want one for in to my garden or better in the bethroom.
Awsome more
Best sound
Lol dude so funny hearing you explain it all to the dog
Hello mate I'd check the oil pump there's nothing getting to the rockers /tappits
Yeah I thought it would be blazing with oil in there. Maybe it's just low on oil?
I cracked the flare nut on the oil filter and it spurted out at idle, plenty of pressure, not sure why the top end is not getting much, it is getting a little tho.
@@Aussie50 it run through inside the rocker assembly?
I don’t know why but I love diesels.
it VERKZZ
VUNDERBAR
Nice doggy
greasy noizy a bit sqeaky..and awesome! just as an old engine should be :D nice to see you get back in it ed
sounds like an old model a ford from the early 20's when revved up
Yes more puppy dog. MORE PUPPY DOG!
Doesn't sound much like a prechamber engine but then I'm used to hearing larger ones like the old 6.5 V8s.
What a rippa!
Or how bout tractor trailer dolly leg screw as monster shop vise screw. They serve as a beast of a shop vise prodject .
is it me or you are not fiering one or 2 pistons?
Squeakies aside, it's got a nice sound to it... :)
You shoud get the main generrator rewound when you have the money
It's alive. ha ha
You needed an industrial generator for your house during a storm or something? This monster'll do the job fine, with power to spare.
I thought it was done for it was in a mess but old diesels are good they last for a long time and you get a lot of usage out of them
Chugs right along
hmm, I thought there would be more oil flowing in the top-end
Proper chugga chugga
Hi dog🐕🐶
That's quieter then I thought
Ha love that. Yanks the knob off "Uh oh". Generally not something you wanna hear when working with heavy electrical pixie making amchinery
runs like new
Man that engine sounds worn out.. Atleast injectors and compression needs to be worked on, maybe check the injectionpump's settings to see if the timing is late..
Im not a pro at this but in my opinion the more the diesel "knocks" the healtier it is (not commonrail), and less means engine that is not running so good anymore.
This directly affects the power and fuel usage.
I have a +60yo tractor that sounded more like a gas engine until i did do a complete rebuild to it, now it sounds like there is someone hitting the pistons down with a sledgehammer :D
No, this is atypical sound for a lanova-typ dieselengine
Lanova or air cell diesel engines run very smooth compared to direct injected engines. The compression on this engine is good, because you look closely the stops almost immediately after he shuts it off. That is a sign for good compression.
Peter Stalin Plus the fact it kicks into life easily. Low Compression and drippy injectors make a diesel damn hard to start .
So this is when I need to be up to see your videos right away, good to know, and man, that definitely was fast, that's for sure.
I was curious, did you ever turn that ATM into an arcade machine? Don't recall seeing any videos aside from the first one.
we never got the vinyl graphics made so it just got stored
Aussie50 Ah, that's too bad, I know a guy who would cut vinyl for free, however if you are talking a printed design I wouldn't be able to help out with that, plus shipping from here in canuckistan would probably be expensive even for that sort of thing.
