Milling a Flat on an old Taiwan milling machine in 304 Stainless.
A little bit of mill work on the old King Rich mill. you can see a test piece I made earlier sitting on the vise on the left.
Material is 304 Stainless, 38.1mm Dia.
Endmill is 12mm solid carbide, was kinda trashed before I even picked it up, but it made it through the job.
I was making a crude 24X24 square drive dog for a pool cover roller, accurate finish is optional but I still came in with .05mm deviance across the flats. not bad for an old Taiwan mill, a chipped carbide endmill and somebody like me who never went to trade school, but was taught by a lot of skilled shop hands and machinists.

Its Aussie made, I have spent many a day running one to cut slabs of 6" round bright steel for Flakt-Woods fan hub casting inserts, and Its the revolver of the metal cutting world, it works, its just not a good as a Glock or Sig semi-auto., AKA a bandsaw

Putting the phone in a zip=loc baggie and dangling it in the tank :D bag leaked a little but no harm done, I used a beater phone. I will try an action-cam in a water proof case.

Running some serious amps through the die sink EDM. 100V at 25-30A DC (pulsed) A die sink EDM is essentially a power amplifier with a adjustable frequency generator driving the output. I will endeavor to do a better video in it at a later date once I know more about its internal electronics.

Just a short cellphone video, I make dozens of these each year, not going to share mission-critical data but just facing to length then turning a spigot on some 76mm (3") 304 stainless steel bar. actual dimensions were 24mm OAL, spigot was 64mm X 10mm. Following processes see it drilled 30mm, bored to 34mm and counter-bored to 48mm prior to die-sink EDM work.

Tappy Tap Tap Coolant oil content was low, I do not usually have galling issues like I did that day. M10X1.5 taps in 304 Stainless. Need some sturdy spiral flute taps to try out. straight flute are not really made for this abuse but spirals seem to snap easily, kinda a catch 22

Unfortunately its more than a bad set of brushes, its a burnt winding all because somebody got lazy and did not share the single phase load across all 3 phases, instead they overloaded one and it burnt. Fuses should have protected it, but I would bet they were upgraded to the point they were useless. The question is, can I lift the brushes on the bad winding and use 2 phases to neutral (ground)...
