Hi Ed, what's your opinion on DIY CNC conversions using breakout boards, steppers, ball screws, CAD/CAM programs like LunuxCNC and Mach3, etc..? Can a decent CNC machine be built at home from off the shelf parts by the amateur machinist at a reasonable price?
I have not dealt with them, but it all depends on the machine you are putting them on. I can ball-screw and servo drive my Hafco mill, but its kinda a crap mill, so its still not going to do great work, it would just be easier since its CNC,. not a bad thing ,but you would have to find its limitations and work with them,
Rest in peace Edward. We'll miss you friend.
Nice to see you back on CZcams Ed
That was surprisingly satisfying to watch
Drilling, Not boring at all
Riveting stuff
Now that's a nice sharp drill!
I always grind my own, takes a while to get it just right but both flutes cutting easy and even is a must.
hell, looking at it again I see the left flute is not cutting quite as much, but its done 15 parts or so since I ground it, still going strong.
Very nice to watch Ed. The hardest material wins and that is the drill bit.
yep, good Australian made Sutton Tools drill bit :D. no chinesium.
It's funny watching some of the swarf flapping about like that, it's like it's going "I KEEL YOU!! I KEEEEEEL YOU!!! Oh I'm dead now......" :P

Asking as someone who has no idea about this (but a dirty mind): Why is the cooling liquid white? :D
the cooling liquid is called coolant and it contains a mix oil and water and something to to keep them mixed together.
