  • 6.5 Creedmoor Hornady Superformance 129 grain SST ammo ballistics gel test fired from a Ruger American with 22 inch barrel.
    Range gear: masonoutdoors.com
    Leather gear: www.masonleather.com
All shots are fired from a distance of 100 yards to encompass the majority of common real world hunting scenarios.
I will be shooting into 10% ballistics gel from www.clearballistics.com that has been calibrated to meet the FBI ballistics testing protocol.
While ballistics gel isn’t an exact proxy for big game, small game, predators or defensive situations, it does provide a repeatable medium through which to test various bullets and ammunitions against each other.
With each type of ammo tested I collect data on bullet penetration depth, bullet weight retention, bullet expansion and muzzle velocity.
For reference, bullet expansion is measured at the widest expanded point using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Caliper.
Bullet weight is measured using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Scale after having removed as much ballistics gel as possible from the expanded bullets.
Bullet velocity is measured using a ProChronoPal chronograph set approximately 7’ from the shooting bench.
I am fully aware that a chronograph measuring bullet velocity from 7’ away from the muzzle is going to register a slower velocity than if velocity were measured directly at the muzzle, but that difference is going to be so small as to be all but irrelevant in regards to comparison of actual measured velocity versus factory stated velocity.
My goal with these ballistics gel tests is to provide hunters like you and I with the most objective information possible to help us make the best choice for our particular hunting situation.
The results of these tests are my own and I cannot guarantee the same or similar performance on your part. The views and opinions expressed in this video are solely my own.
All videos are filmed in a safe and controlled environment on a private range with all applicable safety precautions by a trained professional.

Hornady always puts bs velocities . I find federal to be the most honest box numbers and they are even hotter than the box at times

  • @mogulrider

3 boxes of S&B 140gr for 1 box of Hornady Bullets. It's hard to move to it after our other ELD-X experiences. S&B bullets blow through deer without exploding. I prefer firehose gushing deer tracking. Thanks bud, great work

    6.5 Needmoor 😂

  • @rogerramjet7567

The creedmore sales bandwagon is slowing down. About time. I have had problems with Hornady for decades. Went to Nosler and Barnes and NO ISSUES. NONE.

  • @georgesakellaropoulos8162

Real world velocity for that load should be about 2750 fps. This is out of a 22-24" barrel. The Creedmoor is a good cartridge, but there's a lot of hype behind it.

  • @jasonrhodes7047

The 6.5 Creedmoor is a nice cartridge that works great for its capable of doing but it drives me nuts that manufacturers continue to lie about what its abilities really are. I cant stand the fact that people truly believe the 6.5 Creedmoor is adequate for large game at extreme ranges such as elk out past 400 yards.

  • @r.awilliams9815

Looks like Hornady ran out of the Magic Powder again...that said, it's still more than adequate for Bambi.

The reason you didn't get advertised velocity is because a 22 inch barrel is too short. You need at least a 24 inch barrel to get even close.

  • @masone4589

In fairness 2950 is based on a 24” barrel (listed on the Hornady website). It doesn’t matter that “most hunting rifles are 22” that’s not how Hornady tests ammo. It’s still low but at least make the distinction.

  • @user-cb1fv5hf1z

    Just more Hornady marketing lies.

  • @acesmith3092

I have used this ammo out of my Ruger American Preditor.... it absolutely loves it. I have had excellent results on Coyotes, White Tail, and hogs. I would highly recomend it 🙂👍 Thank you for doing a ballistic gel test on it! -Love your vidieos!

  • @demetriusvick4769

This test helped me with choosing next year's deer hunting bullet. Will be using Federal Terminal Ascent next year.

Another great (no BS) video. Keep it up.

  • @leejohanson6162

All I know is I got a first gen 6.5 ruger....accurate as a couple badwords. With that 129 sst stock load is pretty sweet in mine. My reloads same bullet running around 2600 way more accurate. Love the vids man, your rings and scope fit the rifle perfect perfect perfect

    I'm late to the 6.5C game. 15 year 6.5 Grendel. 40 years 308.

  • @nadineherrell5426

    Nice test!!! Thanks!!!

  • @Prairiewolf45

    Like that camo job!

  • @jay4627

Glad to see more 6.5 tests, and I'm not surprised about the velocity as most manufacturers rate with a 24" minimum. Any chance you could could try the S&B eXergy in 6.5? It's the cheapest all copper bullet, would be a good comparison vs ammo like this

  • @adamweatherford2795

I'd love to see you test the Superformance 243 75gr V-Max.
