    Nice Strat. I’d love you to compare to a USA Strat one day. I just had some boutique pickups made for me hand made with a quality harness, I’m installing them Sunday. I’ve never been happy with my USA Strat, it sounds nice on its own, but does not cut through in the mix well. This G&L has sound of its own, it’s got more punch that a standard Fender I would say. Keep up the great videos Jonathan, it’s always a great pleasure watching them.

      Ooooo boutique pickups!! What are they??

    • @DenisAhmet
      @DenisAhmet Před 4 lety +1

      @@JonIsJustTooLoud They are Chris Buck's signature pickups, hand made by a company in Wales called Radioshop Pickups. I have also had the pole pieces made to a 9.5" radius. The Bridge pick up has a metal base plate like on a Tele. Also the harness has the best of everything including out of choice linear pots. Chris Buck is from Wales and has been regarded the current Best Blues Guitar Player by Music Radar. I did quite a bit of research before I placed the order. I'm quietly confident I will love them. They do have other configurations; like having a David Gilmore sound. I think there are few companies like this scattered throughout the world. For what you get I think they are superb value. I'm going to install them tomorrow, I'm very excited

    I never really considered G&L before, but after seeing you demo them, they suddenly seem like much better guitars than I thought. Pretty much everyone I've else I've seen on CZcams seem to get a bad tone out of them. I saw someone playing 2 G&Ls in concert last summer and I was surprised it sounded good. Just learned the other day Paul Leary used one to get some of my favorite tones and at the same time you're coming out with all these great demos, so now I'm seriously considering buying one. Hey there Jonathon, nice G&L :-)
    I have noticed something that has happened to my personal wonderful world of guitar playing. After having tried so many types and styles of different guitars through out the years I have come to the conclusion some years ago that the most reliable, comfortable, well made, best sounding guitar that ( for me) ticks all the boxes is a Stratocaster...
    Will be selling all the others and will just keep my 4-Stratocasters.
    Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the L.P.'s anaford other types for many years, but there's just something mystical about putting on a Stratocaster and playing for hours, they are so darn versatile, and tones are to die for lol.
    Nice playing, and looks like that G&L looks fun to play...

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud

    Johnathan, I always enjoy your videos. I could listen to you all day. Your playing doesn't sound mechanical or practiced it clearly comes from within. You leave a part of yourself on the table when you're finished. The G&L sounds great in your hands. I noticed no hum. Are the pickups "quiet?" Second question. What kind of Mando us on your wall. Do you play it once in a while? I have a Santa Rosa I'm trying to learn. Back to the G&L. I like Fender and own a modern player but would love to win a G&L. Leo took everything he learned with Fender and put it into the G&L and made them better. Just my opinion.

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  Před 4 lety

      Thank you.. Leo Fender did not learn anything from Fender.. He was Fender before he sold it to CBS. The Fender strats and Tele have remained largely unchanged ever since he left. But G&L with Leo made so much improvements to the Strat n Tele universe.✌️❤️

    Rick Beato has a great YT channel and he recently did a demo of the differences between .011, .010, .009, and .008 string sets and the lower gauge strings clearly sound muddier. Check it out.
    I just changed the strings on my USA Legacy from .010 to .009 and noticed an immediate difference in tone, with the added benefit that the guitar is slightly easier to play.

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Mike, like i told someone today..I personally didnt find any drastic difference in tones when they were switching strings. It would be much better if they had clean settings for the experiment instead. Foe me, I'm just being pragmatic..I break strings often when they are thinner than 10s.🤓✌

    • @mikeaustin4138
      @mikeaustin4138 Před 4 lety +1

      @@JonIsJustTooLoud Not meant as a criticism, Jonathan. :) I, like many other guitarists, un-mindfully adhered to the SRV-inspired conventional wisdom that thicker strings meant meatier, beefier (better) tone. I always knew that many of my favorite guitarists used .009s or .008s, but the conventional wisdom is strong. When i was much younger I used .008s and .009s most of the time. I've been using .010s recently, but decided to change and see what the effects are.

Other than that, perfect finish, comfy neck, beautiful fretboard. Was nice sonic blue. G&L are pretty rare in music shops in France, no Fullerton for testing, few tribute only.

    These guitars definitely has a mid boost thing that all but removes the 50's tone, if you were going for that. This guitar is a rocker, without boldly going further, meaning the guitar is probably better at rocking tunes than a standard issue Fender. G&L has always been about quality, so there is no question on that front. These guitars are better left to the individual player to decide if this will work in their gig, though its usable birth is wide. Thanks Jonathan, I enjoy your videos and feel more people should be watching your work.

    So Jonathan, after playing so many Fenders during your career and now G&Ls lately, If you were going to buy your first Strat type, would it be one of these or a Strat? Do you prefer the PTB system over the usual Strat system? This has a 9.5 radius, would you prefer that, or a 10" radius or a 12" radius! Thanks as usual!

      Like I stated in the video, if I saw this as my first strat, I would be happy to get this. As for fret radius, I’m not really choosy.. The PTB is much better than the usual tone controls, that’s for sure✌️❤️

    100% on the strings, Legacies should be played with 10s for expressive playing.

    Smaller strings does not mean they sound thinner, see this link czcams.com/video/42lF0ITBKHk/video.html

      I know about that video..To me there's not much difference in tone...But when you are using a lighter gauge and switch to a heavier gauge, you will know the difference. Try it out yourself and let me know! ✌

      Hi Jonathan, many years ago when I played quite a lot with my band I switched from 10 to 9 to have less tension on the strings and have better playability. But indeed I could go back to 10 and see if like it more nowadays. If I understand you correctly you think playability is also better with 10s? Thnx Ton

      I find I don’t break strings so easily.. that is important to me especially when I’ll playing live. I also find that I stay in tune much better with 10s rather than 8s or 9s

    How can you be "pro Fender" and be anti G&L. It's literally Leo's second guitar company.
