      G&L would need to make two models for starters: the JK Comanche and JK ASAT Blues Boy
      The G&L owners forum is a good place to post links to JK's G&L videos.
      www.guitarsbyleo.com/
      Many of the owners may not be aware of JK. The G&L Fallout guitar was born on this forum when owners requested bringing back the SC2 and a specific design. The consensus on the forum decided the final design of the Fallout.
      BBE Sound owns G&L. Maybe they should talk to JK about a signature pedal or two.
      www.bbesound.com
      MOTU the makers of Digital Performer should probably get the heads up on JK playing ability. Maybe JK could do a Digital Performer video using the bundled pedals and amp sims. They might even invite JK to a future NAMM show to demonstrate how he composes and arranges his music in Digital Performer.
      Being assoicatied with DP might even lead to requests for music from film scorers. Digital Performer is one of the main DAWs used in film scoring.

    Given that it's a different wood that might cause a change in tone. I've been playing for 57 years and gig professionally and I can attest to the fact that different guitars of the same model all sound and feel different, some subtly and some more obvious. I'm going to be in the market for the USA model Comanche but until I get there I'll continue to open my shows with my burl top Comanche Tribute. It became my #1 over my PRS, Carvin CT6 and my other Fenders. They are truly great instruments. Thanks for the video.

    Hey Jonathan, regarding your comments at 8:50 about the sound: Obviously, several factors could be contributing to the difference between that import Comanche and your USA model. For one, bridge saddle material affects the tone in a critical way, at least to my ear. The Tribute models have zinc saddles and a zinc block, unlike those on the USA models, which have chrome-plated brass saddles and block. Also, the potentiometer and capacitor values may be different from the USA model. It's possible that they threw 500k pots (volume or tone) in the Tribute, and if you were to replace them with 250k, fewer high frequencies would pass to the output, possibly resulting in less "thinness" in the sound. Changing out the tone caps can make a real difference, as well. I think some people (not you) jump the gun and sell off a guitar that doesn't sound right on the misconception that the sound character is inherent in the body and/or neck wood, which may be true to some extent, but the bridge and electronics are just as significant, if not more, IMO. If I find a guitar that is really well built and playable, experimenting with not only various pickups but various saddle materials and pot/cap values is worth the effort and may transform the sound. This has been my experience. Cheers!

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you for your insight. If the saddles, block & electronic are as what you say, I will agree that it will affect the sound. I’m just stating the fact that these two guitars are very different as far as tone goes. Great comment! Thanks✌️🤓

    @bjornnilsson8270 Před 4 lety +5

    I got a tribute Comanche too. A whhile ago I read an intreresting article on why this particular guitar is different from anything else and the versatility of it. The point is to make good use of the tone controls. It's easy to compare guitars with everything set to 10, as anything less kind of "kills" the tone. Not so with the tone dials on the Comanche, as they keeps the tone vibrant even turned down quite a lot. It's not really about trying to find settings to emulate other guitars, as the Comanche is one of its kind, but to find various settings that works for your style and different songs and modes.
    Great reviews, and I'm looking forward to more from you!

    I just bought a Fullerton Deluxe Comanche and will be getting it tomorrow from american Musical. I have a American Pro HSS Strat and love the sound of it and the feel of it, and wanted something close to it, but not exactly like it. so A friend of mine turned my on to G&L and after hearing the guitar I was just amazed at how nice it sound's and look's and the fact that they are basically hand made with quality material in a somewhat small shop. The guitar was less than an american Ultra which now Fender is wanting a 1700.00 down payment on through american. I just know that I am going to love this guitar being a Fender fan . This is my 11th guitar and hopefully I will be adding even more G& L's to my stable. I ordered the natural with the Maple neck and fret board.

    Another great demo and review, Jonathan! Still, I have to mention that, of course, we all hear things differently and, for me, I kept thinking how this Tribute Comanche actually sounded better to my ears when compared to your USA Comanche demo that I’d just previously watched. IMO, yes, the Tribute did have a slightly “thinner” tone, but I actually preferred that as a more wirey and twangy tonal thing. But I enjoy my guitars for their differences and value those.
    Anyway, as soon as I’d finished watching both your demos, I got my own Comanche Tribute out for an evening of playing. These G&Ls are really great guitars and definitely sleepers that folks should try to experience. (I also own a ‘92 Legacy Special and a ‘08 ASAT Semi-Hollow, both USAs.) IMHO.
    Thanks again for your great demos and informative descriptions!

    Hello Jonathan. Superb content you have on your channel and you are a awesome guitarist! (I do agree, you should be endorsed!)
    Now, I'm a G&L fan myself, I have 2 Tribys (s500 + ASAT Special) and had a Legacy USA I sold. I'm in love with the CLF Doheny V12, but it's not the be$t time to get it ;)
    About the tones, I'm pretty sure those Z MFD pickups are made in USA. What is different is the hardware (tuners, bridge are made overseas) and the rest of the electronics are not quite the same as the USA models. Although the pots (which should be MightyMite pots and they are very good!) are different brand, that shoudn't affect much the tone. What I'm sure will effect is where the strings are pivoting in the first place: ii.e. saddles and nut. Nut is the weakest part of Tribbys guitars, they are plastic - not nubone, just plain plastic. Change it to bone or graphtech. That's what I did (also changed the saddles to graphtech ones on my S500 Tribby). It's night and day.
    Tonewood is just...well.... everyone's got an opinion, I got mine ;)
    Take care and keep up those videos coming!! Cheers!!!

    • @WillfulThinker
      @WillfulThinker Před 4 lety +1

      At the front of the nut, at the top surface of the fretboard, my three Tribute necks measure 41 1/2 to 42 mm, which is slightly more than 1 5/8" and slightly less than 1 11/16". (I don't have a digital calipers, so these measurements are accurate within 0.5mm.). I always replace the junky plastic nut on the Tribute models with a Graph Tech Tusq pre-slotted nut, part no. BT-5042-00. The string spacing is perfect.

      I agree, I also have a G&L Legacy Tribute which I can get tones I like out of it but find its easy to get the thin/brittle sound you mentioned. I got it over a fender because it was so affordable and was told it has the same pickups as their american made ones, and i was really going for that classic fender alnico single coil sound. I don't think this is the exact sound I was going for, hence why i'm now checking out these commanche vids cuz i love G&L guitars but think going forward I will only buy models that are unique to them (fallout, skyhawk, or models with G&L specific MFD type pickups) and not more of fender clones like the legacy.

      There is a lot of confusion over legacy tributes.
      Here’s the deal, there’s two tiers of legacy tributes. The $540 version has the cfl-100 USA alinico pickups. The $399 version has g&l designed alinico pickups, but they aren't the American ones.
      There’s also one tribute Legacy that is slightly different than the other versions with regard to the neck thickness. If you look up the Irish Ale, it’s got a more traditional neck size and nut width. It’s also the only legacy with a 9.5 freed board radius. At least in the current lineup.
      I’ve also owned a bluesboy tribute with an MFD in the bridge and a $450 dollar ASAT with alinico pickups. The electronics in the bluesboy were far superior. The selector switch in the blues boy was thicker and more sturdy. The blues boy also had a better version of the same bridge. Both had the ashtray bridge with six brass saddles, but you could tell the blues boys was better quality, and better built. Basically the $450 ASAT is the equivalent of the $399 legacy. I know what you mean about the legacies pick ups being thin. I think they’re partially designed to sound like that because their voice to be vintage. On a sidenote I traded that ASAT with the alnico pick ups and I regretted it because that guitar is actually awesome. I got the exact same guitar as the deal of the day this week on GuitarCenter‘s website so it’s coming back in. I’m wicked excited, I’m just gonna upgrade the electronic. I loved the pick ups so I’ll keep those. I hope this helps. If it makes you feel any better, sterling music man has a very similar problem with confusion between the CT-30 and the CT-50 Cutlass, the Legacy’s cousins.

    Hi Jonathan, could I check how the tone of the G&L tribute Comanche sounds compared to a Telecaster? Am thinking of getting one but not so sure how the tones compare. Thanks!

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  Před 4 lety +1

      Very different...the tome that comes close to a Tele would be the ASAT. not the comanche..which is more closer to the strat. Head down to City Music if you are in Singapore and give it a whirl!

    Hi Jonathan...I'm came back to your channel to rewatch your video on the USA Comanche, then I saw in the suggested column this video on the Tribute version, so I thought I'd give it a listen...I listened from 1:47 to 2:26 and paused it...in my oppinion, the pickups on this one when using the bridge/ middle pickups sounds extremely stratty...alot more than the USA made one...going to watch this and see if you came to the same conclusion...man, commenting again after listening more...for me, that is plenty "quacky"...I thought the demo of the USA one was like you described, a little quacky, but not like a Strat...but this guitar...way Stratty...just my oppinion... Maybe it's the pole pieces...are they adjustable like the USA model, or are they like Strat pole pieces? Maybe that is the trick? Nope, looked closer and they are adjustable like the USA ones. I can't tell if you are in 3 pickup mode on that section from 1:47 to 2:26...maybe that is making it really stratty? Anyway, I like both USA and Tribute demos, but this one seems a bit brighter...so both are great, and depending on what you are shooting for tone wise, would determine which one would get picked to use...way different sounding guitars, though...the USA one has way...how do I put it? Way richer sounding tone qualities in all positions...but this one has a little more quack than the USA version, IMO. Hey, thanks for posting these videos and hope you are well.

      Don’t hurt yourself Rob! Going back and forth lol.. the thing is there are tone differences in wood choice. Even the same wood will sound different dependent on where the wood comes from. I’ve tried a couple of Comanches boy tribute and Fullerton Deluxes.. they sound different.✌️❤️

  • @DenisAhmet
    @DenisAhmet Před 4 lety +1

    Does not do it for me looks wise, I think it may look better in a sparkling type finish, the pickups look weird. The sound was similar to a Strat. So Jonathan if you were to compare a Fender or a squire to a G&L like for likeish, which would you choose if you had to?

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  Před 4 lety +1

      Probably a Fender DELUXE ROADHOUSE™ STRAT®?

    • @DenisAhmet
      @DenisAhmet Před 4 lety

      Jonathan Koh I’m so out of touch with guitars, new models coming out all the time. Anyway I checked out the Fender Deluxe Roundhouse Strat and it’s looks a versatile quality Strat, great value too. Well if this compares well to a G&L equivalent, it must be a great guitar, although I prefer the look of the Fender, must be the snob in me? Although I bought my first Harley Benton guitar recently and I like it a lot. It’s a shame in London all my local musical instrument shops have closed down, I need to travel to Central London and it’s a gamble finding a decent left handed guitar. Would love you to demo the Fender Deluxe Roundhouse Strat, unless you already have?

    • @mikeaustin4138
      @mikeaustin4138 Před 4 lety

      Leo used "z-coil" pickups on the Precision Bass and one of Fender's 12-string guitars. Yes, you cannot get replacement pickups, but the guitar's routing will accept standard single-coils (and maybe humbuckers?) with a different pick guard.
      One of the things I like about G&L is that they're subtly different from Fenders and the z-coil pickups help you - and the guitar - stand out from the crowd.

    • @DenisAhmet
      @DenisAhmet Před 4 lety

      Mike Austin given the choice I’d always pick a Standard Fender Strat with SSS configuration, only because it looks nicer, to me that’s important, it’s like looking for a partner that gives you that instant bond, chemistry feeling, which you hope is going to last a lifetime. I like creating music more than playing other people’s music, how the guitar feels and looks plays an important part of my creativity, or simply having fun. I would not be surprised that it was the design look of a Strat that made it the success over the decades it has been around. Each to their own.

    Hi Jonathan, i commented on one of your other posts about the comanche series of guitar's possibly the fullerton deluxe, I've made final payment on a comanche tribute today and hopefully will recieve it before Christmas, my question is about your comment of the tribute model in this video and how you say it sounds thinner than the fullerton deluxe, would that sound be more like the original single coil sound of the stratocaster as other reviews I've watch say the z coils have a bolder tone than single coils , mine has a maple frett board also so I am expecting it to be a bright sounding guitar, great video as always mate,

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, somehow the tribute Comanche doesn’t sound like the Fullerton Deluxe’s... I’m guessing that it might be the type of wood used... I’m not really sure. But I know that the pickups are the same. In any case it’s just a tad brighter not a whole lot... maybe it’s my sound Engineer ears kicking in full time... lol

    I just bought this guitar today, after playing it non stop for 4 hours I watched this video and felt my guitar's seething jealously at the way you played your one o_o"
    My only criticism is that I notice my strings will need tuning again quite regularly (30 mins non stop play, only minor tunings, but enough to make a difference) This is my first electric guitar, is this considered normal? or might if have something to do with my use of the tremolo? (nothing excessive, but frequently using flutter effect)
    Great video, very informative and fantastic playing!
