Andertons Music Co - thanks guys for the delivery of my Roland Street Cube today 👍 I can now sit in the field across the road and rock out from a safe distance and still let the neighbours here my tunes 🎸
6 feet?
@@458racing "...still let the neighbours here my tunes"
Still let the neighbors where your tunes?
Oh sure
Can anyone guess the chord progression for the intro jam?
Yo, the captains playing is SICK in this video.
When is it not...? 😉
Right!?
@@andertons A couple years ago! He's leveled the fuck up!
@@andertons Lee's come along way. He really does every axe justice and it's good to see another upload amongst all this horribleness☺☺☺☺
I remember thinking one day, actually Lee's playing is not terrible. And then some time later, that was honestly pretty good. I attribute this first of all to Lee's hard work, but also to Danish Pete, who is a really tasty player. If I jammed with that guy every day I'm sure I'd be better too.
I own one of the last G&L 1992 SC-3 Strats Leo ever personally touched, oddly the same week my son was born. Never overlook G&L when you think you need a Fender.
Thanks, guys, and hello from our new channel! 🙏
It seems the Doheny Tribute is not now available. Is that true? I have asked Andertons to see if they can find one for me. They are absolutely stunning guitars.
Every single time I hear someone playing a G&L with those MFD pickups I am in awe of how good it sounds. I am going to have to break down and get one eventually.
ER Webster they’re even better in person
Yes. Do it now. You will not regret it.
Ever.
Bought a Tribute Doheny a few days ago. They’re killer.
@@erstwhilerambler congrats! I ended up getting a tribute as well a few months after this video came out, and I agree. They play and sound so great, and look good too.
You guys have snookered me into buying 3 guitars and I don't even know how to play.
You're very welcome... 😉
Go practice.
Shouldn't you be practicing?
Don't they come with in instruction leaflet? First chord: A4.
Yes you do, you just don't know so YET.
We all know that Pete and Captain are great players but today's intro jam was extra tasy
WHAT AN INTRO JAM, CAP, PETE, OH MY GOD
You right Toby - Captain - wow
Damn... someones been practicing. Killing it Captain
Doheny is a surfing place mentioned in a Beach Boys song "Surfing USA". It's SoCal baby!
You'd catch 'em surfin' at del mar
Ventura county line
Santa Cruz and Trestle
Australia's Narabine
All over Manhattan
And down Doheny way
Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A
I was raised in Huntington Beach. My grandfather used to play in a country western band he lived in Whittier Leo Fender used to give him stuff to try out. In my garage I have a third fender bass every made on the production line and something called the Fender Coronado 12 string Electric guitar
take care buddy
AHA! moment, thanks.
@@lobster4501 Hey Lobster...me too! surfing the pier, skate boarding down 14th st. to the beach! Sweet time to grow up in So. Cal. The Coronado was a cool looking guitar. Rock On Bud. My name is Mike Sager and Bobby Jones and I used to live at the pier in the 60s!
Narrabeen, Australia
Also mentioned in surfing sufari. There kicking out in Doheny too
Couldn't ask for more out of you guys. Perfect mix of great playing and good natured humour. Well done to you and G&L on these models!
Ive been watching this channe for a long time and it’s awesome seeing Lees playing improve so much. He’s one of my favorite people to listen to.
This is probably my favorite opening jam I've seen on the channel - just has a special vibe to it. Thanks for all your hard work putting out hands down some of the best content or there!!
I'm straight up bowled over by how great they sound!
I could never go Jazzmaster, now that I'm hip to Doheny.
Been eying the Dohenys for a couple days and watching all the older Anderton’s G&L videos. This video is just what I’ve been looking for!
Sweetwater in the USA, andertons in the uk, happy to see G&L getting the love they deserve.
What a beautiful, beautiful intro that was! A melody of beauties that can help us a little during this time. Thanks for that.
Saved this to my favourites just because of the final jam, it sounds so... comfortably well played, such a great taste!
Hell yeah, the Captain went off in that first solo! Pete's playing was luscious as always too.
Two months ago, this video made me buy a Tribute Series Doheny. This guitar is insane and I love it!
Love the playing! Fetch an extinguisher, the captains on fire 🔥
That opening jam almost sounded like early/Room For Squares John mayer mixed with the stuff off of Continuum. I need more of that in my life
Pete and Lee have made these demo vids watchable again. They actually DEMO the equipment rather than wank around on the same old stuff.
I just wish they would stop with the banter and demo the damn gear.
This just in: you two can make ANY guitar sounds good. That being said, G&L is just killing it these days.
Lee, your playing is so so so good these days. You and Danish Pete are a perfect pair!
Lee your playing keeps getting better and better, smashed it!
Great to see how Captain admires Pete’s playing :) N Captains playing is getting so much soulful :)
That intro was fantastic. That was
awsome. Thanks guys.
If you're a long time subscriber, you can notice how the captains playing has improved drastically!
That's some beautiful playing in the intro
I just bought a Tribute series Doheny and I absolutely loved it.
Gorgeous intro. Watched it 3 times in a row before proceeding to watch the rest of the video.
Thank you so, so much for this.
Stay safe.
Cheers
Ricardo Lima Pereira me too.
Why would they be in any danger?
I am so happy to say that my wife gave me a Tribute model Doheny for Christmas yesterday. I'm smiling just writing about it. I immediately bonded with the guitar and played it for around two hours after unboxing it. I love everything about it: the surf green finish, the awesome pickups, the block inlays, the lacquered neck, the tremolo, the tone...oh man... the TONE. WOW! I was inspired from the first chord, coming up with one idea after another.
Surf green for the win. [My wife said "yes" to me buying my own, so basically the same story - lol.] And yes, I would be sorely disappointed to NOT have the block inlays. You can order a custom shop USA with blocks, but the standard USA series has dots, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. The block inlays are so rad!
Great guitars, great playing. thanks all!
That was an amazing tune at the beginning! Very catchy! Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it...Thanks for watching! 🤘
I just bought a tribute version..... I LOVE IT! amazing tones
Beautiful intro jam, these guitars sound amazing
I sometimes how tasty captains playing is when he is just jamming the blues. Lovely intro jam
I went to a music store yesterday and played a whole wall of electrics- (G&L, Reverend, Gretsch, Yamaha). The Doheny was the best sounding/playing one of the whole lot. The pickups on those things are great!
I live in the Carolinas, and the big box stores just recently opened. I will definitely check out this gem. I really hate they have not been given their proper accolades over the years. I had an old G&L bass that was simply amazing. It’s one of those that I sold for the bigger dream, but never lived up to the feel, and tone. She’s the one that got away!😂💎😂
Lee your playing on this is off the chain good it seems like the guitar plays so sweet and has such sweet tones so it's inspiring your playing
Love you guys, and love these guitars.
I hope Lee kept one of those custom shop models for himself because his playing there was truly inspired. Wow!
These really do sound lovely 👌🏻
Those custom G&Ls with the graphics are beautiful both in sight & sound.
Nice playing Captain. Beautiful.
BRILLIANT JAMS guys and man alive Lee your skill and musicality has progressed light years since those early Capt & Chappers days. All your hard practice is paying off. Magical.
Great review. I bought a Tribute Doheny in surf green, and I love it. It's so versatile. Very well-made. The MFD pickups are smooth, powerful, and ultra-quiet (i.e., basically "noiseless"). [fun fact: These single-coil G&L pickups have adjustable pole pieces, like a PAF humbucker or whatever.] The tremolo is buttery and stays in tune perfectly. The PTB tone controls are so simple yet so brilliant; having an individual treble and bass allows WAY more flexibility and customization than the standard tone controls that basically just dull (de-treble) each pickup; the G&L tone control system is the way it ought to be. The fretwork is very solid (probably not as pro as the USA-made one, but very good nonetheless). I could go on and on... These are great guitars. [Oh, btw... Some people have complained that the string spacing puts the E strings too close to the edge, and I initially noticed a tendency to roll my fingers off the cliff, but... If you take like 20 mins. to get used to it and clean up your fingering... I realized it was sloppy fingering as much as anything; I basically never fall off now. So, yes, it might be 1 or 2 mm. closer to the edge, but it's not "wrong" - just different. It's like playing a guitar with a different nut width and then complaining that it's "too narrow" or "too wide" when really it just takes some player adaptability.] Anyway, that's my spiel. Doheny is boss.
Great comments!
Proper Clapton at Albert Hall vibes in that intro jam. Love It!!
Ain't gonna lie...I watched the "almost Lee's riff" about a dozen times! I love it!
But seriously, those guitars sound great! Lee's playing is really good. All that hanging around with Pete is showing. The two of them together are so good.
Beautiful music fellas. These guitars inspired you too wonderfully
Those pickups sound so good.
Love Your Videos Guys, Keepem Coming 👍👍🎶🎶🎸
damn.. some of the best music i've ever heard in that intro...
Wow great intro guys!
These two dear blokes are Adorable together and fun and funny as can be.
You guys have the best reviews! Just picked up a Doheny today and can't put it down. It's sooo bright and clear, so underrated and sounds better than my guitars that are more than double the price! I might be a G&L fan for life!
Bought mine a couple weeks ago, and I'm a total fanboy now. G&L were recommended to me years ago, but they seemed too un-cool. Looking back, what a fool I was. I'm glad to have matured enough to give them another try. [I will say... Part of the special appeal of the Doheny is that it doesn't have those big block letters like the ASAT and LEGEND. So, I guess I'm still somewhat a sucker for superficiality.]
Greetings from sunny but B-R-R-R cold Eastport, Long Island, New York. Just wanted to say I enjoy and await every episode! If you can “love” an inanimate object I love my Doheny! Cheers!😊
when I was in my teens (80s).. the colour scheme of that shade of blue with brown pickguard.. laughing stock... toy guitar.
30yrs later... I want one of those and I don't give a fig what it sounds/plays/feels like... the colour alone is sheer joy!
Lovely playing Lee
clean sounds are mental.. dang!!
Great video guys! Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🤘
@@andertons Absolutely!! Your vids are bringing sunshine in my confinement days and I am sure that I'm not alone at all! Without my guitar, the Captain, Pete and the fantastic team at Andertons, life would simply not be same. You guys are precious :) - A fan from Montreal.
That Sunburst one sounds the best 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 love it
The tone and volume controls on G& L guitars allow an incredible range of tone possibilities - far more than a generic single tone knob.
I was so surprised that they said it was just a cheaper tone control. I mean, i shows how little they know about g&l guitars
@@MikeRoV They were talking about the caps on them, not the tone pots themselves. The caps say "tone" on them, and Lee argued they should somehow indicate which is the bass and which is the treble, rather than having the "cheap" generic tone knob caps.
I love a generic knob. That's actually my nickname at work.
@@ebbablom ahh thanks for clarifying
Absolutely. I can't imagine going back to a more "traditional" tone control. And I can't imagine how/why other makers haven't caught on to this system. It makes an unbelievable difference.
What a great jam
Ah yes, the G&L Tahiti from the Tame Impala Sounds Like video. Great vid as always guys, I hope you're all doing safe and much love from Canada
Doheny TOP !!!
Nice Job Bro !!!
these guitar have nice tones to them, also great playing capt
You guys on it today! Thanks. Was missing my daily dose.
Sounds great! Glad to see your videos during lockdown. More Danish Pete!
Plenty more Danish Pete on the way!
Andertons Music Co what I really want to see is Danish Pete’s dream rig. A video where he can choose anything he likes but needs to justify his choice.
@@themagnusthorexperience5632 I'd like a danish
I am Danish
The Magnus Thor Experience Ja tak.
Man I like posts. They are funny and informative
The mermaid G&L sounded immense, nice job Captain!
Some of Capt. Lee’s Best RIGHT HERE!!
The opening jam is sweet.
Today reviewing this VIDEO, I again have to give you "Congratulations"
you got it right with the guitar riffs without that excess of distortion pedals etc,
this is always a point to favor in my modest opinion for an GREAT Review
and I already decided that I'm going to buy another guitar that will be a Doheny,
hugs here from Portugal !!!!!
Great intro as per... nice one
the jam in this is up there with the 2019 les paul tribute/studio jam as one of my favourites
When the captain did demos with rob it never seemed he enjoyed it as much as he does now, rob would just play crazy licks n' stuff but i never heard a jamm from them as nice and smooth as this one.
I have one of these.. Absolutely amazing guitar. Holy crap I love that vampira mermaid one!!!!
Andersons vedios are really entertaining and informative at the same time...love you all...stay safe
Amazing playing guys, love those G&L guitars, just one little point any chance playing these through something different than the Victory Amps, not a complaint as they are fantastic but out of most people's budget. Great vid thanks for keeping us entertained 🎸🎸
Blimey that "vampy mermaid" guitar looks and sounds great
I don't need it. I don't need it. I definitely don't need it.
I NEED IT!!!
Keep safe you guys, your my favourites !
The USA models are plecked which is one reason the frets are slightly smoother. For the most part, the tribute and fullerton are very very similar.
I have a USA Legacy and just picked up a Tribute Doheny. the build quality is not far off an the sound is absolutely marvelous, with the PTB controls and the MFD pick ups (with individually adjustable pole pieces), the range you can dial in is unbelievable.
I grew up surfing at Doheny. It's a small wave right next to the Dana Point Harbor.
Sounds like an electric guitar to me. Love it ❤️
the headstock looks like the G&L Rampage - My favorite brand of g'trs!
Doheny beach is in Orange County California! Been my local beach for my 24 years on the planet! Love starting in Doheny and cruising down to Laguna beach :)
Lee’s solo at 19:00 is SO GOOD
Jeez I keep wanting to buy all the G&Ls I'm going to run out of room! You know a guitar's good when it makes you want to play, and you guys obviously had fun!
These G and L are excellent, you guys got some very useable BluesRock tones out of them.
May the Captain solo longer next time, can't get enough of his playing!
This is the first new guitar that has me excited in a long time. I think they're the bee's knees.
They are, in fact, the knees of said bee.
Lee is really getting good! His jam was outstanding. Although he has been hanging around Rob to much now he can smell guitars! lol
That was great at the beginning of video
Oh my. Sick groove. The sultan of smooth strikes again with groove that i could listen to for an hour. Oh and Cap!!! Speaking of sick. Your playing is off the hook on this vid. (P.S.Yes I’m from America)
I would love a mini jamsession training course from Pete, for late beginner/early intermediate level, the jam sessions you guys do are a little over my head.
Learn the minor pentatonic scale if u haven't already
Another one for the shopping list
I always love the reverse rake picking thing... not sure what it's officially called. Very classy. I just noticed the captain is doing it now too! Love that intro jam, very nice!
Dany Wu pretty sure it’s called reverse rake picking. That’s what it’s called for real.
I love the fact that at 6:23 Pete's playing a tiny bit the riff to a poplular danish childrens christmas song called "Søren Banjomus" :D
