    Dale Hyatt worked for G&L, I worked for Them 1980-1982 in the Finishing Department! Great Guitars!

    I LOVE my USA G&L Legacy! I'm glad to see a lot more love for these instruments lately. Absolutley great guitars

    Nice vid. I love my G&L Bluesboy. Combining Leo’s last invention (MFD) with the man (Seth Lover) who invented the humbucker’s recreation of his original design. Two great guitar innovators and the best combo of a single coil and humbucker I’ve ever heard.

    Neville may be recalling Dale Hyatt, another prominent figure in Fender history who played a key role in G&L Guitars.

    LOVE my G&L Legacy tribute. Absolutely gorgeous in Irish Ale finish and plays beautifully. It is my first and only strat. Don't really care about Fender guitars since I got my G&L. I just want more G&L's. That Comanche is amazing and calling my name. As is the Irish Ale ASAT

      I think he calls it master tone because like the conventional tone knob it reduces treble and makes the tone thick (My second favourite knob after the volume on G&Ls)

    i believe all the USA made G&L's come with a bone nut which def. helps the sound. LOVE the adjustable pole pieces on the pickups too :)

    Beautiful playing guitars! I love my S-500. Same as the Comanche except without the Z coil pickups. I really like the tone of the ceramic pickups, very crisp and punchy.

    Great review, and great point on about the toggle making those two positions that seem similar different.

    G&L built me a Legacy Special in ~1997. I’ve been super happy with it. At one point I took it to a luthier for a tune-up and the luthier said my G&L was the “real” Fender and that time and not the guitars that were then coming out of a Fender factory. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @Robstafarian
    @Robstafarian Před 5 lety +46

    G&L guitars do not get the respect they deserve, largely due to Fender's marketing.

    • @tiki_trash
      @tiki_trash Před 5 lety +3

      I imagine Fender has been dying to acquire G&L since the beginning. If they ever get their hands on G&L they will destroy the company.

    Great demo of the guitars, thanks. I prefer a blend pot to fade in the other pickups, over the micro toggle. So for example, it allows you to be on the bridge pickup and blend in exactly how much bridge you want.

    I love G&Ls USA instruments, but I am curious as to why Anderton's and Guitarist are really pushing them so much at the moment. Have Fender upset someone?

    • @omarbell4579

      @kingstumble Před 5 lety

      Andertons, PMT and Guitar Guitar have formed a buying group where they negotiate deals with certain manufacturers and be exclusive sellers in the UK. G&L and Alvarez are two of the first. Tourtech is another.

    How shimmery and glassy (thin?) does this sound with the treble up and bass rolled off? I wish one of these youtube videos would show, I think it would be interesting, I am looking forward to trying/owning a G&L Comanche soon

    SKYHAWK = G&L's version of the SABRE (or was it STINGRAY?) - one of the two anyway

    • @mrblank-zh1xy
      @mrblank-zh1xy Před 3 lety

      Music Man Stingray RS is a cross between a Les Paul and a Skyhawk. They are both designs from the 80's with similar heritage. The Music Man Sabre is more like a Stratocaster, but besides the body shape I would not argue that. G&L Comanche is much like a Strat.
      I would agree with you in that a modern G&L Skyhawk HH is very similar in character to a modern Music Man Stingray.

    • @Snowcountry556
      @Snowcountry556 Před 3 lety

      Yeah the skyhawk is 100% a single coil, passive version of the Sabre I & II from 78-80 before Leo left Music Man. The design is almost identical.

  • @bassiclogic
    @bassiclogic Před 5 lety +1

    Both amplifiers had the treble cranked/turned up way to high for a demonstration! Should of had the tone controls straight up!

  • @ArielsSmartyPants
    @ArielsSmartyPants Před 5 lety +1

    Well for me, if they're going to make a clear finished guitar, at least use 2 or even better 1 piece of wood, those wings glued on look like such an afterthought. Sadly, the tremelo is keeping from buying one of these models, but the Tele remakes are super sweet.

    • @MrTDembinski
      @MrTDembinski Před 5 lety

      ArielsSmartyPants The optional saddle lock bridges are pretty awesome / I have an SC-2 with the saddle lock and it’s got loads of sustain and a comfortable palm position

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian Před 5 lety +1

      The G&L Saddle Lock bridge is my favorite hardtail bridge; The Babicz Full Contact Hardware Fixed 6 bridge is a close second, and it has the advantage of being usable as an aftermarket modification.

    Rotates the Bass cut knob, only strums treble strings...says it's "subtle". No, that was operator error.

  • @drfdwf392
    @drfdwf392 Před 5 lety +3

    These guys are awkward but they did a great job here! Damn the G&L USA Comanche is the best sounding strat I've ever heard. And I also love the total look of it. And I've always disliked strat. But I can afford that, I'll buy it.
    Oh and I've always love teles, but that first strum of the skyhawk is just so beautiful. It's like a Fender but with the resonance and chime and bell and richness of PRS. Love the Skyhawk. I'm just not comfortable yet with its look.

    • @markgowans
      @markgowans Před 4 lety

      You can get the tribute version of the comanche for less than £600. Interestingly the tribue version comes with the exact same pickups that are on the USA version so theres no compromises. The expander switch is a push\pull pot on the tribute version and thats the only real difference.

    G&Ls used to be great, but since they’ve grown in recent years, the quality control has suffered. I bought two over the last 2 years and both had to be sent back

  • @jazzman1954
    @jazzman1954 Před 4 lety +1

    ‘Looking with hindsight’ perhaps you should mention that almost no one bought or recorded the G&Ls. They were not popular. I don’t know why but back then strats were (and still are) king. So these are reissues of a failed product. Funny old world isn’t it!
