Is there a way to use a filtered deck like a normal deck? I’d like to pull specific cards out of the ANKING deck to study for this Block of med school, but I’d like those cards to be scheduled as well (ie due in 1 day, 3 days, etc. I want to be able to review them based on the steps). Is that possible? I made a filtered deck with new cards and did them, and they should be due today but the filtered deck doesn’t show that they are due. Thanks so much in advance!!!

Odd question but if you create a filtered deck and want the options of "again, hard, good, and easy," is there a way to keep the cards in the filtered deck? Normally, when you do a filtered deck and keep the "reschedule cards based on my answers" and it has "again, hard, good, and easy," then they go back to the AnKing deck with all the old material/cards. Any help would be appreciated
I'm trying to make a custom filtered deck for my OBGYN shelf, but every time I think I've finished it and empty the filtered deck, the cards return to their home decks as if nothing happened. I haven't tried the V2 scheduler because I have a bunch of cards in the learning stage. My intervals are 30m, 1 day, 3 days (my normal deck settings), if that's helpful. Any advice?

Is there anyway that you can get your new card amount to show on a filtered deck? Ex: my filtered deck has 1000+ new cards but I just want 50 new a day which are the settings of the parent deck but it shows 1000+. Also with the experimental add on are the deck settings just from the parental deck or can you edit those?
Hey! Kind of off-topic, but I have a quick question regarding custom paste feature on the "Customize Keyboard Shortcut" video you made recently. For example, i want to set it so that if i hit, say "Ctrl+M", then "Yes or No" is automatically pasted into my card. I have spent some time reading the instructions and trying to figure it out, but to no avail.
Does anyone happen to know how to use it?

Running into this issue: creating a deck for biochemistry::enzymes, but because some of those cards are also tagged under "biology::proteins", they aren't included in the filtered deck. That's my understanding at least because other cards under that tag without any additional tags ARE added to the filtered deck. Is there a way around this?

i'm confused about a situation : what happen if you study a card in the filter deck with the option that impact on the reviewing mechanism, if you study a card in advance ?
Im not sure if im clear so here is the example of the situation :
you study a card that should be in your review schedule in 10 days, if you succeed it, will it add the next time at the date of the filtered deck or at the 10days it should have normally appear ?

Hi An King, I want to get the custom filter add on for the for the specific tag folders? I cannot find add on "custom filter deck". I have version Version 2.1.40 on windows. When I right click on the tag item in the Browser section of anki - the drop down menu does not appear. Really apprciate any info shown. Thanks.

Thank you so much for posting this! I have a quick question. Might be stupid, but I don't know-how. If I want to make a filtered deck with only certain tags (ObGYN) and I want to run it like if it was the main deck, what should be the properties I add to the filtered deck options?
Ex. I noticed that I am doing poorly in ObGYN, so I want to make a filtered deck with all the OBGYN tags in your main ANKING deck, but I want to use it as the main deck in the meantime like it would give me due cards, new cards every day. Is there a way to do this?

The best way is to create a whole new deck then move the tagged cards to that one. Or you can create the filter deck with the reschedule option checked.
I don't know why it's so complicated to just study a special tag out of a deck.

If I move couple cards from different decks-- lets say for example that there's a lecture on GI pathology and I wanted to move the cards either from Lightyear or Zanki into my own decks will this impact the parent deck? If I deleted my own deck after the lecture test, will the card still be in the parent deck?
I'm currently working on the AK_step1_V7 deck and I took a break from anki unfortunately and trying to get back into it. I have 4k cards due from earlier and have been making a filtered deck for all my coursework that corresponds to our most recent lectures which I have been keeping up with. What's the best way to approach this? I've been trying to do 100 cards from the old Anking cards and then just emptying, rebuilding and adding to a filtered deck for my classes. Is this method feasible or is there a better way to do this. Thanks.
You may consider stopping the filtered deck confusion and just keeping all of your due cards in one deck and studying from there. Watch this video on rescheduling cards so that you can finally get a handle on the 4k cards due so you only have like 100 of those cards due every day spread out over the next month an a half. czcams.com/video/UXgck-g0nQA/video.html
Will cards in your filtered deck still show up in your regular deck? Or do you need to go back to the filtered deck to see them?
3:30 I cannot RMB on a tag to create filtered deck; I have to click on tag then use Edit->Create filtered deck based on this search (or CTRL+SHIFT+D). Using Anki 2.1.26. Is it possible it doesn't work with "Blitzkrieg II - Advanced Browser Sidebar [BETA8]"?

I couldn’t find a way to make filtered decks for general tags like Dorian OB instead it took me to the more detailed tags like Dorian Ob, OME, MOLE etc...and that was tough to deal with every time so I made sub decks painstakingly. Didn’t help that Cheesy Dorian was one huge 9k deck and not arranged like Zanki was into subdecks... but I guess I’m just not good at anki

Hi Anking, I tried doing a filtered deck from the browser and I faced a problem. I have created other filtered decks before and it seems I have cards in common between a previous filtered deck (surgery shelf) and a new deck (family medicine shelf) I created. I am not able to see the cards in the previous filtered deck (surgery shelf) into my new filtered deck (family medicine shelf). what do you suggest I can do as I want to continue reviewing those cards I have seeing before in my new filtered deck? I usually add negative modifiers to exclude other decks in my filters so that doesn't happen. Or you can manually rebuild the decks in the order you want

I have created a filtered deck for just the step 2 cards from IM and FM.
I want to do 63 new cards each day along with any reviews that are due from these cards. I can't seem to be able to make it work. The settings only show either 63 new cards or a random combination of new cards and reviews. How do I go about it? I am so confused.
Also, do the reviews correctly show in the main deck? Because I feel it shows lesser reviews than it should, considering the number of cards I did in the filtered deck and the buttons I pressed. Or maybe that's just me?

I have a question regarding this add one. I am using the filtered deck primarily to review sections of sketchy micro. So I wanted to create a filtered deck just dedicated to Gram -ve Enteric bacilli. I downloaded the add one that requires creating decks from the browser. However, when I right click on the tag for gram-ve bacilli, it gives me an option of "convert to deck" instead of Filtered deck. Do you know how can I fix that?
Try just clicking the tag and then in the edit menu you can “make filtered deck based on this search”

I’m afraid my study method might be messing up the algorithm. Can you please tell if my method is correct: I am doing Anki subject wise. So, for example, I make a customised deck for genetics and do just that. Cards return to the main deck once I’ve done them and they show up in review according to whatever button I hit while doing them in the custom deck. Anything wrong with it? If no, then why do I hear people using the ‘suspend all and unsuspend a certain subject’ method? Sorry for the long post.
No that's an acceptable method as long as you understand how to do it :) It's more complicated and I believe that's why most people choose not to

Terrific methodology for focusing studies. But to get to this point from having 500 lists in one "deck", is it possible to tag an entire list, so that I can include it in the filter? Or can I only add the tag by opening each "note"/flashcard?
I'm not sure I follow exactly what you're asking. But you can select multiple decks , subdecks, and tags as once and create filtered decks based on that. You could select all those items in the browser and add a tag to all those selected items and then create a filtered deck based on that.
Hey man, please help here.. Even if I delete the "is due" portion, it still shows only the due decks. So, for flagged cards: when I browse there are 57 currently in brower. But even when I remove the is due portion, it still shows me only 16 cards.

Is there a way to learn three decks at a time and just dont move from A to B to C and learn first #1A, #1B, #1C, #2A... and so on?
The number of cards in my Review deck after Rebuilding is much higher than the sum of # of cards that appear next to each subdeck (ie: # for Lolnotcop, # for Zanki Pharma). Why is it like this?

I think it may be the Bettertags add-on. The Create Filtered Deck From browser does add a menu item for "create filtered deck based on this search" though.
Hi so I'm someone who has about 700 reviews a day so I've been trying to figure out a way to do some of my reviews at night before going to bed so I wake up with say 500 or so in the morning.I had been using the custom study review ahead to knock out some of the next days cards but I saw that that messes with the scheduling. Is there better way to go about this so I can finish my reviews in the morning, do my new cards, and then get a start on the next days reviews at night, essentially splitting when I'm doing reviews each day in to two parts?
Watch our video on "How to Miss a Day..." which will show you how to reschedule cards (including future cards to the current day) or "Filtered Decks" which will allow you to bring prop:due=1 cards into filtered deck that you could do at night.

I'm not sure why that is. If you click on a tag first and then ctrl (cmd)+click on another tag, does it not change your search?
@@AnKingMed i realized the two tags i wanted weren't showing any cards because i didn't have cards under those two lol. but you're right, it still does change the search even though it doesn't highlight which tags i'm selecting. thank you!

In the search bar, you can add the term "or" in-between each search term to include more than one tag. It would look like this: "tag:xyz" or "tag:abc"

Make sure you're on the newest stable version of Anki, your add-on isn't disabled, and restart Anki.
Hi, thanks for the great videos! quick question, I've been using filtered decks but I accidentally deleted them instead of emptying the cards. Does that mean those cards are permanently deleted from zanki deck? If so, is there a way to restore it..?
Nope they just empty when you delete them

I have 95 cards in the learning phase- is there any way to prevent these from being kicked out of the learning phase before updating to the V2 scheduler?
Nope.. unfortunately not. I'd recommend doing those cards first or tag them based on their due date and use rememorize to reschedule them back to that date after

Would I be able to use this with cards that aren't showing up in my decks after I unsuspend them? I have been using SketchyPath with Anking and specifically, the CCBs 3.1 video has 46 cards in it, but when I went to study it only said I had 27 new cards. I did them and went back to the browser and the cards that didn't show up say they're in the queue, but I can't get them to show up as new cards anywhere in my deck.
It's probably because you're burying related cards in your settings
@@AnKingMed Yeah I thought the same thing, but I double checked and I only have that setting on for cards that I am reviewing. I have been using this method for a few months now and this is the first time I noticed the issue. I wasn't sure if you had heard anything similar from someone else about those specific cards, I had a buddy of mine try to unsuspend those cards and the same issue happened to him so I was wondering if you had ever heard of anything similar happening like that. I'm also having this problem with the AnKing deck. I've noticed a lot of the ones I'm having this issue with have the *AKadds tag. I've been able to do them in the Custom Study Deck if I search, for your example, tag:#AK_Step1::#SketchyPharm-Zanki/lol::Cardiovascular_&_Renal::3_Antihypertensives::3.1-CCBs is:new
I can do them in Custom Study Deck instead of the normal deck their in with the Custom Study > increase today's new card limit (which shows 0 even if these new cards are there)

I have a question 😅
I created a filtered decks with various tags, didn’t put the “is:new or is:new” because is cause to drag cards from other decks.
Some of this tags are fully suspended, and i unsuspended them as i study along. I notice that i have to rebuild the filtered deck in order for the newly unsuspended card to appear in the filtered deck, the problem is that also the cards that i just review on that deck appear on “due” even though i just finished to study them.

I sorta figured it out. Basically the "is:new" or "is:due" is supposed to come after each tag. So if your filter is: "Tag 1 OR Tag 2 is:due", the "is:due" will only apply to the second tag and not the first. To fix that you have to make it "Tag 1 is:due OR Tag 2 is:due".
But that's a big hassle and it would be a huge pain in the ass to do that for every tag you want and, sometimes, you may not want to put a whole tag into the filtered deck. An easier solution would be to tag every card you're unsuspending with your desired tag and use that tag in the filtered deck. Let's say you're doing nephrology right now and you're slowly unsuspending cards related to nephrology. Each time you unsuspend, you add the tag "Raul's::nephrology" (or whatever you want) to the cards you're unsuspending. In the filtered deck, you put in "Raul's::nephrology is:due OR is:new", that way all your new and review cards that have this tag which you specifically chose for your needs will appear in the filtered deck related to nephrology.
Edit: For the last one it should be "Raul's::nephrology is:due OR Raul's::nephrology is:new". Writing the "OR" creates a new search and therefore it would bring every due from Raul's::nephrology and every new from any deck. Gotta write the tag you want before each of them.

Before the V2 scheduler, we could do custom decks and see our reviews every day. (Steps 25 1440 1440 1440) However, now... do we have to rebuild the filtered deck so we can prepare four days before the exam? (for cramming
As far as we are aware, you do need to rebuild your custom filtered decks each day
@@AnKingMed If you learn cards that are new, but have not seen them, would we still be "learning ahead" and use that terrible algorithm. For instance, I am studying lolnotacop's bugs... However, I just watched a sketchy pharm video unsuspended it, and did a filtered deck. However, I finished all of my "new cards" for the day. Would creating a filtered deck on that said video be "learning ahead"?
@@nehemmgogo325 I am not sure about how that affects the cards before the V2 scheduler, but after updating to V2 then it won't count as learning ahead.
I'm not able to right click tags in the browse mode (or highlight more than one tag). I'm running the newest version on windows 10. Is there an addon or something I need to be able to do this?

@@guitarfreek1 I actually just realized I told you the wrong add-on. You'd need the "Better tags" add-on (only available for Glutanimate patreons) or the "Blitzkrieg" add-on to right click. (I'm not sure if Blitzkrieg would let you shift click multiple tags or not). The add-on I linked below will make a custom filtered deck based on what is in your search bar. You don't need an add-on to click the tag and then shift click another tag and have it pop up in the search bar (it won't necessarily show both highlighted on the left side though). Is this part not working for you? If so I have no idea why that wouldn't work as its a function built in to Anki. If that's the case I'd recommend posting on the Anki Support page.
How do I go about using the 2nd filter to use the custom filtered deck similar to a normal deck. When I created an internal medicine custom filtered deck from AnKING step 2, there are 1000+ new cards. Is it possible to only have for example 50 new cards/day with 99999+ reviews just for IM? Thanks!
You may need to manually unsuspend 50 new cards every day. You could watch our video on "how to skip a day" to figure out how to space the cards out evenly over time.
@@AnKingMed I was having this problem as well, and suspended the cards but I think it takes them out of the filtered deck. Not sure what to do.
@The AnKing I don't have it set up as is:new, I just deleted the is:due and pulled all the cards. Then I went back and suspended some after which they were sent back to the original deck. I tried to unsuspend some using the original tag but they end up not in the filtered deck. Am I doing something wrong?

So basically I have been trying to get into anking step2 v2 deck. Now I have suspended all the cards. And I am un-suspending them as I go about the OME videos and the uworld questions that I am getting incorrect. But this means I have to go through all of my reviews before I get to the newly unsuspended cards. How do you suggest I solve this? I was thinking about using filtered decks but then again I am not sure what do next as I remember when I was in dedicated for step1, I could barely get through my reviews(started late). And had to make smaller decks with 100-150 cards which were much easier to get through (for some reason)
Is there any was I could use filtered decks to create smaller decks and not disturb the tag system that you've worked so hard to build up?

@The AnKing if I am making a filtered deck, will that remove those cards from under a particular tag, if incase I never empty the filtered deck?
I find it easier to get through 5 sets of 100 cards, rather than one set of 500 cards. So just to do that, I am thinking of making filtered decks, and never pushing the cards back into the main deck. Will that work and not disturb the tags?

I am trying to make clerkship decks for step 2 across all subdecks, but that don’t have the uworld questions in them because I don’t want my UWorld percent to be artificially inflated and me be more confident than I should be walking in.
I put in:
tag:#AK_Step2_v2::!Shelf::FM::no_dupes -tag:#AK_Step2_V2::UWorld::*
There are definitely UWorld tagged cards in the deck because it has the same count as tag:#AK_Step2_v2::!Shelf::FM::no_dupes used alone - both decks gave me 2250 cards. What am I doing wrong? How do I get the UWorld cards out of there?
I would confirm that there actually are UWorld cards in there. Go into one of those search terms and select a card, then search for the UWorld cards with that card still selected and see if your selected card stays on the screen, confirming that the card is in both places.
@@AnKingMed I did check and there are some UWorld cards in there. I finally thought of just suspending all tagged with “UWorld” and that got rid of them... don’t know why I didn’t think of that earlier. I’ll just un-suspend them when I need them. Thank you so much!

what cram means?
It just means to do all the cards without it affecting the scheduling (i.e. do all your cards the day before the test without affecting the long term spaced repetition of those cards)
Huh, why these things aren't all in dropdowns boggles my mind lol. Needing to learn syntax is terrible user experience for users
Does using a filtered deck affect your spaced repetition algorithm for each of the cards?

I'm looking to do the opposite as when I'm normally going through a deck, Anki doesn't shuffle the cards (which is annoying for certain cards that I have) and I was hoping to use filtered decks to use "randomise cards" but to also change their spaced repetitions based off my answers as if I were doing the deck the normal way without filtered decks
@@KalpPatel It would work then. You'll need to be on the V2 scheduler to use custom filtered decks though. But you could easily pull all cards into one filtered deck and set that filtered deck to "random"

The scene in your videos is very small and blurry...very difficult to watch and understand
its crazy that in the Anki manual it says you can create filtered decks... but then mentions nothing about how to actually do it....
