    Recommended Anki settings here: refold.la/roadmap/stage-1/a/anki-setup
    MISTAKES IN THE VIDEO:
-22:12 - It turns out the that “what happens in the learning queue stays in the learning queue” rule ONLY applies to NEW cards, NOT cards that are being RE-learned. If you fail a “green” card and it becomes orange, failing it again as an orange card WILL reduce its interval again, as with each consecutive fail after that. On the other hand, the ease factor DOES only change on the initial fail, and once in the re-leaning queue, consecutive fails DON’T further reduce the ease factor. So to summarize: “orange” cards are safe EASE FACTOR wise, but not interval wise. Because new cards don’t have an interval yet (new cards are not given an interval until they graduate, so failing new cards multiple times has no penalty).
-28:30 - By default the maximum interval is set to “100 years”, not “10 years”; guess my eye somehow missed a zero.

Hi, I understand that the interval is reduced and not the ease factor, but does the false steps count in the relearning cue ? I mean if I fail 8 times while relearning a card will Anki count it as a leech or I have to fail it 8 times from a reviewed to relearning card ? Thanks ^^

    • @carloscorona3143

      @@Mordorac
If the card is orange you can fail it as many times as you want and it won't become a leech,
A card becomes a leech by default when it lapses 8 times. A lapse is when you fail a card that is green.

@@Ohrami It isn't about speaking clearly, he surely does, but any time anyone is throwing a lot of numbers at me, showing graphs I haven't seen before etc. however clear he is, it is still difficult to follow. Today, for instance, someone explained to me something about his bathroom and a bar he wants to attach his door to and how that ties all up to the poor placement of the window and while there was no problem following his individual words, I still had no clue what he was talking about. It is that the only way to understand is to take a careful look at his bathroom myself first without him talking at all. Sometimes people just talk too much. The same goes for Anki.I would have to see it myself first without anybody talking. Just like math at school. The teacher asks - do you understand? I say no. She goes on a rant explaining the problem, her hands pointing like crazy all over the place and I still don't understand as she forgot one crucial thing. I've been waiting for a video on Anki, thank you so much (and your patrons)! I've already got a practical grasp over it but its settings confuse the hell out of me, and now I know how to make more use of it for the rest of my learning.
Maybe my low kanji retention at the start had more to do with me spamming the Easy button (they *were* easy when the stories were just fresh in my head) and less to do with me doing 50 a day... lol. Since you said the intervals grow exponentially and it affects them forever. Regardless I've had no issues retaining the rest of kanji ever since learning to use Good any time I thought a card was easy, and save the Easy for cards that took no effort at all, and use Hard whenever I had the slightest inkling of a doubt. I'd rather see these cards 3 months later than 9 months for instance (when I click easy). After this video I'll never use Easy again.

Hey Matt, or anyone else here that is well across Matt's Anki suggestions. I have added the 3 ADD-ONS are recommended, they installed fine - So now, I only have the PASS or FAIL option. With these three add-ons, did they change settings on the time intervals of NEW, LEARNING and LAPSE cards? I know everyone is different in how fast they learn, but I couldn't seem to find MATT'S recommendation of what numbers to change the respective variables to i.e STEPS, GRADUATING INTERVAL etc. The add-ons dont appear to have changed them. Also, I like the EASY button for new words that I want to promote quickly. The button was there before I installed the NEW 3 ADD-ONS - Any help in getting me back on track would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi Matt, I watched your "I stopped using anki" video! And I have the same problem that you had. I kinda feel i wasted my time using anki. But right now since I'm taking the IELTS exam in 6 months and then I have to use it again to expand my "temporary memory" by learning it, and then after that immerse myself in real English materials like watching TV series, reading newspapers and stuff. I plan on ditching Anki after I've finished the test. So I think I really need that "Death Point" addon of yours (hope I remember the name correctly). And I can't find a video of yours talking about this addon (though I remember I saw it yesterday, but somehow I can't find it now). Can you show me where this addon is?

Does anyone have the link to this video, where he optimizes Anki(the "part 2")? Cuz I feel like I'm just spinning my wheels with anki

Glad I watched this video. Helped me understand a lot. Started MIA over 2 weeks ago. During the first week, I was watching and researching methods and decided to skip RTK/LAZY completely and just move straight to grammar guide's to see how it would go. The way I am combating this is by writing out the sentences with the Kanji every time they appear to paint that rough and sometimes permanent image of the Kanji in my head. It has been just over a week since I started doing it and have had no issues understanding sentences on reps. Going to keep testing MIA this way to see the results. Also recording for documentations later, but will release in bigger chunks instead than every week for anyone that wants to see the progress, results, and what I feel about doing it personally.
