    nice video ! i'm just starting with fsrs but haven't got the 1000 reviews yet to individualize i believe. do you know where to look that number up ?
    and if i know ill have a big exam due in 2 years and my deck has 30k cards, i could just compute my retention rate with that ? that be awesome, but kinda disregard all the smaller tests and exams university unfortunately do have. i would need my retention higher for that anyways no ?
    also would you mind sharing all the anki addons you're using ? :)

      Are you using the Anking deck for USMLE Step 1/NBME CBSE? I'll go ahead and help you do the calculation right now for that since thats the primary deck Im using if so. If youre planning on going through 30k cards in about 2 years (720 days give or take), and spend two hours studying for it a day on Anki, your desired retention should be around 0.87 according to the FSRS iterations that happened in my application. If you can give me the exact amount of time you want to study everyday, the exact number of cards you have to review and the amount of days exactly till your exam that would help a lot to help me calculate it for you while you wait to get to 1000 reviews. I believe you can find the number of reviews you have done in your "Stats" tab in the "Review" column. I definitely plan on sharing all of the Anki add-ons in a video since some of them are obscure and outdated and require some tinkering to fix haha. Anyways hope this helps you! If this video and comment helped you I'd appreciate it if you would consider subscribing to the channel and leaving a like on the video if you have not done so already! Thank you for the video! I just find out about this configuration so it is very new to me.
    How this could work when you're studing at the same time your building the deck?
    I mean, I create the cards before my classes I at the end I have to see all the cards before the class itself, and also I can't acknowledge how much cards will had until the end of the semester.
    What would you recomend?

    • @FixerMed
      @FixerMed  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hey Felipe welcome to the channel! In your situation I’d say just set the retention rate from anywhere from 0.85 to 0.97 manually. Ensure the learning steps stay at default settings. You should be more than good to go at those retention rates, if you have too many reviews but feel confident about the material you can definitely lower it and play around with it. But if you want to get the most out of Anki FSRS, a higher retention rate may yield better results for retaining content from my experience using these options. Once you apply these settings you should be good to go! Let me know if you have any more questions about FSRS or Anki in general!

    Thanks for this video.. One question if you don't mind answering. Under "New Cards" and "Lapses", what Learning and Relearning steps do people generally use with FSRS enabled? I have been using 15m 1d 6d (learning steps) and 1d (for relearning), but it looks like that's not going to work correctly with FSRS (it says steps of 1 day or more are not recommended).

    • @FixerMed
      @FixerMed  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Lyra thanks for watching the video and for your comment! I have not messed with the stock Learning and Re-Learning steps in my FSRS settings personally for my reviews since I want to maintain a high retention rate to properly retain the information to teach students this information in my HY reviews. So I have kept my learning steps at just 1m and 10m and relearning at 10m as well. There's a technical limitation with FSRS which gets really messed up when uses steps of 1 day or more so definitely be warned about that. I hope these settings are helpful for you and help aid you in your studies!

    hi thanks for the video. Can I ask you one question, I dont know how many cards I will be having in my deck. Because it's not a premade deck. I make them on my own, so can I compute the estimated retention? Because I can't enter a deck size there

    • @FixerMed
      @FixerMed  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hey yeah of course I can give you a walkthrough of what to do. If you have 1000+ or more reviews you can actually just have the system automatically calculate your retention for you going forward and it should work out well. If you don't have the 1000+ or more reviews, might want to explore setting it between 0.85-0.90 since from the case studies seen thus far, it seems to be the sweet spot for less reviews and great retention. If you're primarily making these cards for block exams or practicals, might want to consider setting them to 0.90 to ensure you get the highest grade you can. Also you could try estimating how many cards you are going to make for each block and try to base it off that but I personally would just reccommend using the stock settings or setting a fixed retention factor of 0.85-0.90 for your case. I hope this helps you out and if you have any more questions please feel free to comment it here again and I'll respond to you ASAP! @@FixerMed Thanks for the reply and I have already subscribed :) I have one more question: When I add a new card using the default parameters and 0.90 retention factor, the good button schedules next review for 5 days later. Is it good?
      It seemed to me a little bit too long. Increasing the retention rate to 0.99 solves it but it's too high.

    • @FixerMed
      @FixerMed  Před 4 měsíci

      No problem and I appreciate the ongoing support! Yeah I would trust the FSRS algorithm there. Most of my cards on 0.90 have been scheduled for 2 days or 3 days after hitting good but I have definitely seen some cards get scheduled for 4 days or 5 days as well. I would trust the algorithm here. It is not recommended to set your algorithm above 0.97 at the current iteration btw. If you don't feel comfortable with the reviews being set to 5 days just keep your retention at 0.97 and you should have a very solid ability to recall the information. Hope this helps!

    • @FixerMed
      @FixerMed  Před 3 dny +1

      You could stick to the normal recommendations and be fine tbh. I would recommend changing the retention factor if the reviews are building up. I’m starting to study for mcat and I am new to Anki/FSRS. My desired retention is 0.95 and I’ve been using the default parameters this past month. Whenever I optimize the parameters and do the optimize simulation like you did in the video, my retention goes down to 0.85 just like yours did. Do I have to change my desired retention to 0.85, or will leaving it at 0.95 keep the algorithm towards that retention rate? Ideally I want to optimize my parameters but also have reviews catered at a 0.95 retention… I’m scared optimizing will calculate it for a lower retention like 0.85 even if I have my desired at 0.95. Sorry if it’s confusing but basically I’m sticking with default parameters at 0.95 desired retention right now. How can I optimize my parameters and still stick for a 0.95 retention?

    • @FixerMed
      @FixerMed  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Hey thanks for the comment and congratulations on taking the big step to study for the MCAT! You can go ahead and optimize and get the recommended FSRS parameters regardless based off your study patterns if you have 1000+ reviews. Once you do that you can just manually set your desired retention to 0.95 and it should help ensure that you are able to hit that retention level. You can raise it up to 0.97 at the maximum at the moment but 0.95 should definitely be good enough for MCAT preparation. Also will probably go ahead and start releasing the MCAT Content Outline series now that I have some Pre-Meds viewing my channel. Will go through the content outline line-by-line in a similar way I approach the USMLE Step 1 so if you think that would help definitely tune in for that! I have set the interval super high to accommodate for students who might be potentially starting with Anki from Day 1 of Medical School in the US/Canada and want to utilize the Anki Deck not only for the Step 1 for Step 2 CK and Step 3 preparation as well! This setup may also benefit FMG/IMGs who are going to be taking their Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3 after graduation in about 5.5-6 years depending on their MBBS course of study. If you want to just set your maximum interval to 365 if you are taking your Step 1 in a year or so that will also work well with the FSRS algorithm. Why is it not possible to add video in ankidroid?

    • @FixerMed
      @FixerMed  Před měsícem +1

      I actually think you can incorporate videos into Anki PC/Mac Edition and then sync it directly to AnkiDroid. I will list the instructions on how to do so down below!
      To incorporate videos into your Anki flashcards, you will first need to save the video file to your computer or device. Then, you can follow these steps:
      1) Open the Anki desktop application or AnkiWeb in your web browser and navigate to the flashcard deck that you want to add the video to.
      2) Click on the "Add" button to create a new flashcard.
      3) In the "Question" field, type in the question or prompt for your flashcard.
      4) In the "Answer" field, type in the answer or information you want to remember.
      5) To add a video to the flashcard, click on the "Add Media" button located at the bottom of the "Question" or "Answer" field.
      6) Select the video file that you saved earlier and upload it to your flashcard.
      7) Once the video is uploaded, you can add it to your flashcard by using the following code:
      8) Replace "_name_of_video_file" with the actual name of the video file you uploaded.
      9) Save your flashcard and repeat the process for any other flashcards you want to add videos to.
      10) That's it! You should now be able to view videos in your Anki flashcards.
      Next you want to manually sync the media from Anki PC/Mac version to AnkiDroid. The steps to do so are listed below:
      1) Check Media Files on Your Laptop:
      Open Anki on your laptop.
      Go to Tools → Check Media. This will verify if all your media files are present and correctly synced.
      Ensure that the “media sync complete” message appears on your laptop.
      2) Verify Media Files on AnkiDroid:
      On your phone, navigate to the AnkiDroid folder using a file manager.
      Look for the collection.media folder within AnkiDroid.
      Confirm that all your media files are downloaded and present in this folder.
      3) Sync Media Files Manually:
      If you find any discrepancies between the media files on your laptop and AnkiDroid, manually copy the missing files.
      Connect your phone to your laptop via USB.
      In your phone’s storage, paste the files into the AnkiDroid → collection.media folder.
      Afterward, check media again in AnkiDroid to ensure all files are now present
      I hope this helps you out and if it did be sure to leave a like and subscribe to the channel (if you haven't done so already) to stay up to date on any new developments in Anki or if you have further questions on anything pertaining to Anki. Either way hope you have a great rest of your day/night and good luck studying!

      Hey! Make sure you have 1000 or more reviews done on your deck and click 'Optimize' as shown in the advanced settings. You can also manually set your retention factor to anywhere from 0.85-0.95 to have great long term retention for the deck you are doing. I think the retention factor maxes out at 0.97 so if you want maximal retention you might want to set it to that manually if you don't mind doing an excessive amount of cards everyday, but from what I've observed anything from 0.85-0.95 will work wonders moving forward.

      You can change around the parameters for sure with filtered decks. I think the same settings would apply, just go in your filtered deck and change the settings there. You can definitely group your filtered decks together as well. Just create an empty deck by topic and drag all the filtered decks (subtopics) to it. This should create an expandable and collapsable setup for your needs. Would just stick with keeping the retention factor constant to 0.85-0.95 for all cards to maintain proper review flow though.
