  • Tim shares his thoughts on the Cooper Discovery S/T Maxx that we had on Dusty our 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ80 with a Maltec conversion. How did they handle terrain? How did they last? And how did they compare to other similar tires we've had? Well you'll have to watch and find out.

    Always good to hear your down to earth opinion with the gear / kit that you guys are using.. especially as it based on your actual usage vs. what others may have been asked to share on their channels.

    Thanks Tim. Super helpful as I've been looking at these for several months and was set on getting them for my next tire. Still waffling between 265/75/16 and 285/75/16 but regardless will go with tire now that you've done such a thorough review.

    Very good information . A person that runs the tire out ,has a much better perspective . Thanks and please do more real world reviews . Also on some vehicles the weight of the tire has a big impact on gas mileage.

    Good review as I’ll be in the market soon to outfit a new Tacoma with a four wheel camper on the back. Always been a BFG guy and never really had any issues but weight will be an issue in the future along with moving up to an E rated tire. I’m primarily going to using the truck in the mountains fishing and heading back down into Baja next year.

    I find these to be the most underrated tires in the mainstream market. Everyone goes hard for the KO2s, the Toyota and Falkens but these are a gem waiting to be found.

    Liked the Tire talk Tim👍Great useful info for future tire purchases. I actually am just now switching out of some 305/70/R16 Falken Wild Peak AT3s because their killing my mpgs on my Nissan Frontier lol. Going back to a tamer all terrain 285/75/R16 on the truck and putting the Falkens on the Diesel Suburban. I knew better but of course I got caught up with the size and look of the truck with the Falkens when I didn't need that big of a tire lol.

    I imagine you will like the new Toyo R/T “trail” (make sure it is the “trail” version) as it seems to be lighter weight than many other features that seem desirable.

    Great one. Love it. My wife and I love going remote. You can never learn to much when pushing it to the limit. Originally the Toyo, now the BFG. It was interesting to learn about the Coopers. We're on a Tacoma 2000 got it new. It's taken us to many glorious and gnarly places. Wheels! What's your take on Wheels?

    • @DirtSunrise
      @DirtSunrise  Před 2 lety +1

      For most applications the factory wheel is stronger and lighter than most aftermarket choices. That being said, a set of wheels can make a truck look so different I understand why people do it. Our current truck has some aftermarket wheels that are actually skinnier and stronger than OEM so we can run the tall skinny tires properly. For the cost however, I would have just left the OEM wheels on the truck.

    I have these exact tire series on my G wagon just in 235/85/16. Love the tire, it's very quiet tire for the aggressive tread pattern. It's a great all terrain tire

    • @ClintonHHuth
      @ClintonHHuth Před 2 lety +1

      I chose the 235/85/16, for being readily available, 49lbs and 32 inches Wich is ideal for an overland vehicle where fuel economy is important

    Thank you for all this information very helpful and good video job with the technical info . I run falken wildpeak at3w 265/75r16 now on Tacoma with load ( rtt awning and canopy Alu-Cab) and few other gear. I like this tire ( I m living in Canada) very good overall , and in the snow to. But I want to change for 255/85 r16 , so I try to find in this size all terrain tire . Most are mud terrain in this size... do you think the cooper S/T Maxx look like the falken wildpeak at3w. In this size 255 falken make only mud terrain... but I prefer All Terrain....

    • @DirtSunrise
      @DirtSunrise  Před rokem +1

    I have a 2020 Nissan Titan XD that is going to be used for mostly towing highway but will be in potential some sand etc while pushing a trailer or pulling a trailer would you recommend these tires it currently has the stock general grabbers that I really don't like. trying to find an all-terrain tire that will also provide good fuel mileage as much as possible awesome video

    • @DirtSunrise

    I'm running the St Maxx in 285/70r17 E load on my 5th Gen 4Runner. They're 62lbs, do you think they're too stiff and heavy for a 4runner, I'm considering switching to duratrac d load (54lbs) or k02 c load (51 lbs)

    • @DirtSunrise
      @DirtSunrise  Před 2 lety +1

      You can somewhat solve the stiffness on a lighter truck by lowering the psi a bit. On the weight, it all depends. If you could do what you want and get no flats with a 40lb lighter set of tires you'll feel the different in acceleration and braking for sure. If it were me, I'd make the change next time I needed a new set.
