- It's been a long time since I've uploaded, and I'm excited to have more content ready! I thought i'd come back with a revisit of a vocalist that never fails to give the goosebumps and shut my brain down... Lara Fabian.
Today we'll be breaking down her vocals from her performance of "Caruso" and reminding ourselves to breathe.
If you enjoyed this video please like, sub and hit the bell (if you want to).

she doesn't just SING a song, she genuinely PERFORMS it!
And keep in mind this is before Auto-Tune and amplifying this is how she sounded and she can still sing very well 20 years later.
Italian is such a beautiful language, and that song got incredible lyrics, it's possibly one of Lara's best performances.
Lara es LA Reina.
I could watch you fangirl over Lara for hours and it would be a well spent time! Do one more: Perdere l'amore from the same concert, and do it soon!
this reaction / critique joins the two other best reactions of anyone by anyone - No. 1 is YOUR reaction to Lara's " Adagio " and No. 2 being YOUR reaction to " je suis malade ". Lara is one-of-a-kind and for me is the Ultimate Artist -- she UNIQUELY blends technical proficiency and emotional conectivity with perfect tonal pitch and breath control all while having a power and resonance beyond most singers' ability. Simply put Lara Fabian is the Ultimate Artist .
Any song from Lara is a masterpiece, like a moment suspended in time
👉 Many classical singers (most men) have sung this song: Luciano Pavarotti, Mario Adorf, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Potts etc. The song tells of the pain and longings of a man who is about to die while looking into the eyes of a young woman whom he loves very much.
Enrico Caruso (*1873 in Naples, † 1921 ibid) was an Italian opera singer. He is considered the most famous lyrical tenor of the early 20th century and one of the most important singers in the world of opera.
Caruso was famous for his baritone-like timbre and stage presence. In a performance of La Bohème he sang an aria for the suddenly voiceless bass so convincingly that no one in the audience noticed.
Caruso established a new, exemplary style of singing in which the focus was not on beautiful performance but on becoming one with the character being portrayed.
Caruso is the name everyone knows and to which every opera singer is compared. Those who have seen him describe the onset of his voice with the warm power of an organ.
Caruso still holds the record of 863 appearances on the Metropolitan Opera stage.
And it was Caruso who initiated the triumph of the record with his work.
Caruso's generosity was legendary. For example, during his most successful years at the Metropolitan Opera, he gave almost all employees Christmas presents. His sense of humor was also famous. Again and again he joked with his stage colleagues, for example sewing up a sleeve of a coat that a colleague in La Bohème had to wear during the performance, or filling water in a discarded hat that someone had to wear in the performance.
3 years before his death he married the American millionaire daughter Dorothy Park Benjamin. With her he had a daughter, Gloria, at the age of 45.
He died at the age of 48 from protracted pleurisy and blood poisoning. (www)

I love her so much....the way she tells the story in each and every song she sings......
I was in tears when I first listened to her perform "Je Sui Malade."
I do not cry....almost never...yet she's one of those persons who can literally make me cry......every single time.
Lara is a Timelord - she can roll back time at her will - for her is in what we live is standing still and she can move things in that state …
Simply the greatest storyteller I have ever heard.
I can’t argue that!
I'll argue that.. 😉 Probably because you stated "you ever heard". It does suggests that you are not fully familiar with the voices of the world.
Don't get me wrong... I am a fan of Lara's performances... But this song is most powerful sung by the "The King of the High C's".
And he is still considered the century's best lyrics performer.
Also one with an extraordinary vocal capacity.
And although this is an amazing cover, I have heard similar covers from the same quality... Even from 12 year olds...
No hard feelings though. I like Lara as from the 90's.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌷
[Edit] ..... Never mind the great Enrico Caruso himself, from which Luciano Pavarotti himself said, that he was even an greater tenor than him (Pavarotti) self... [/edit]
@@fredschepers5149 Can you please identify any of the 12 year olds you have referred to?
Much like Lara you too very beautiful. Always enjoy watching your reactions whenever I get a chance. Keep it up
All i can say is that when she was very popular in Quebec in the 90s early 2000s, i was 23 yo, i couldn't connect with her but always knew she was "good". Now, 23 years later, i connect a bit too much, she's so great, i can't even believe it. I'm crying like a baby.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time! Sorry I missed this premiere!
I am from Canada (Quebec), I am into punk roch music (Bad religion, Pennywise, etc.). Years ago i had the chance to attend one of her concert, gift whit my mother in law for my birthday. I WAS BLOWN AWAY! If u think she is good on video... Her presence on stage is something else! She is Unbelievable.
A big thank you to you Julia, for showing me the technical side of music, wich i dont know much about.
lara is something special for us musicians
Julia is back. Julia reacts to Lara. Turns out, I am a simple man: Today is a good day.
Great reaction. I too am a huge fan of Lara. Borderline infatuated with her voice 😂. Also, your technical analysis is wonderful. Even your physiological explanations are very accurate. Great job. Lara is a pure master.
It's insane, this level of talent goes beyond anything I've ever heard on earth... In short, all of this makes no sense! Such a level shouldn't even have the ability to exist; it's staggering. Never have I witnessed the ability to control so many different talents at the same time while elevating them to deliver such emotion... it's unprecedented... it's legendary.
Listen to Je Suis Malade. 😢
Lara is the best
I was on her concert a year ago in Belgrade, Serbia. It took me some 7 hours driving in one direction. It was totally worth it. I know this cocert is some 20 years old, but she hasn't lost one bit.
First class performer and a true lady.
i just got tickets to see her in Ottawa Canada ! Can't wait.. Wish I experience with your knowledge ..
Lara is known for singing with the whole range of emotions, she lives her songs. She not only sings the song, she transports you in the story. She's amazing and should be (in my opinion) much more celebrated then she is. She's an immortal.
If angels don’t sing like her I don’t want to go to heaven 😁
Did we just watch Julia having Laragasms 😊? While we all know that Lara is a master at perfoming emotional ballads, I'd love to hear your take on a little different side of hers when singing Requiem pour un fou the duet with Johnny Hallyday.
Anyway Lara is in a league of her own and it was pure joy and entertainment to watch your reaction.
Julia, beautiful lady War everywhere on the planet it's a gift to have you with the voice of Lara Fabian and this song about Caruso ... Thanks from Paris.
I really hope that Lara has seen your reactions and knows how much you love and appreciate her. She needs to know how much she is loved.
Thank you for coming back to reactions. I missed you. :)
🎉🎉🎉
@@noname-xw4uk I am flattered but I think Julia and Lara deserve flowers more than I do. :)
Lara is on another level 😊
One of my favorite performances, by ANY artist.
You really make the best reaction videos of Lara, really super interesting, so you can understand Lara's skills and art even better 👍
I love the way her breathing is an integral part of her expression.
Um acting as if you have just run a marathon is not attractive in the least
Its good to see someone that knows about music watching to a master like her
Haven't listened to that song in ages... a welcome blast from the past.
Very special thanks from Austria/Europe for your outstanding reaction. Loved it and well deserved.
Thank you, Julia - excellent reaction video😀Yes, Lara is uncomparable♥
The Queen Of Resonance and the master of vowel coordination.
Oh yeah she is
If i remember well, those songs are indeed all from the same concert. Every single performance is just outstanding. Now we just miss "Broken Vow.
What a wonderful analysis of Lara's Caruso. Thank you!!
The one and only
Lara Fabian 🔥❤🔥
Always top notch
and I love your reactions to her music and voice
Keep it up Julia ❣🔥🙏
TY soooooo much - saw that you took this song on by Lara and could not wait to watch. The dieing Caruso, with a young wife and child...his wife was just 28 he was 45...him telling her how much he loves her...before he died... of a variety of ails but his death was attributed to peronitis.. What an emotional topic for a song. This is of course why this classic by Dalla was really made for Lara. She captures you, wrings you out, to the last note...spellbound you come out of it, maybe clapping, maybe crying, and watch it again. She is The Queen, long may she reign.
The Pianist is heartbreaking wonderful! Magnificent performance✨
Welcome back! I have missed your reactions! Check out Broken Vow by Lara now...
Didn't expect this! So happy to see you react to more Lara 😍
This weekend has been wonderful... 2 of the best analisys had been released: Julia and Jessica the same week. I have had my Christmas gift
Dramatic ballad.... Broken Vow from this same broadcast might be the one to top them all for me.
Love your reactions Julia: insightful, but your love for the music shines through.
Julia is back...
JULIA IS BACK!!! YAAAAAYYY🎉
Lara started to sing and i was like " oh god, this will tear!" And it did! Her singing is so expressive. It was really a lovely journey! Thank you!!! And welcome back ❤
U more chubby girlll!!
JULIA IS BACK!!! YAAAAAYYY🎉
May GOD bless her, thks a lot
Have you saw the public of Paris chanting to her ("we love you") "on t'aime" czcams.com/video/IYnFwUbC9A8/video.html
Seeing your face absolutely brightens my day
🇨🇦 We all missed you Julia ! Welcome back !
As you well know, Lara is a trained Lyric Soprano, but what many don't know, is that she often goes back to Belgium to continue training ! The best part of her training has made her, probably THE Master, and that is her breathing or breath control ! Lara would admit to being a little bit of a perfectionist, so I am safe in saying, Lara does everything for a reason !
Lara missed your reactions, or maybe that was me ! If you have not already, you must react to "You're not from here", but bring a box of tissues !
I adore your reactions because you help further my appreciation of these artists. Add one of my favorite Lara Fabian performances and you have made me a very happy person today. More Lara reactions, please.
Your eyes rolling are my favorite part of the video 😂
😂 it’s my soul rolling around
Lara Fabian is Fabulous 🤩
Love Lara, no one is better, listening is her just takes you to another dimension 😇…. I learn so much from you in your reactions/explanations , thank you Julia ❤👏
Lara does it to me every time- a true Goddess
I alway's love Lara singing. But I'm enjoying your reactions, very much. She is simply the best I ever heard. Thanks for you and youtube
Love your reactions to Lara. Please react more to her. Next react to her singing You Are Not From Here, Broken Vow and Perdere L’Amore from the same concert and Requiem Pour un Fou with her and Jonny Halliday
She ate. Obviously high-level artistry and high vocal IQ.
Best female singer in the world without a doubt! She sings with so much emotion and passion. There is no-one like her!
Lara e Lucio una bomba atomica ❤
While they both have earth shattering voices, if I'm honest, I much prefer Lara to Celine...it just feels, somehow warmer to me...does that make sense?
Celine impresses while Lara emotes and tells a story.
@@ericsicard910Céline can do both without sounding like an empty vessel ❤😂
You know you're the standard when you're brought up even when you're not mentioned! Legend 💕
@@celiniac and you know you are better than the so-called legend when this legend uses political tricks to block you and prevent you to perform in front of your public and to be promoted in your own market.
Celine is great but I prefer Lara in many ways. And It’s sad and unfair René Angeil blocked Lara in the US.
Despite this, believe me or not, I wish Celine a complete recovery and I hope she will be able to perform on stage soon again.
Lara is the better storyteller, but unfortunately she has not a lot of great songs (the best are covers). Also she sounds worse in studio recordings than live. Some of Célines songs for the US market are a tad too loud, I prefer her french catalogue.
I couldn’t decide who I like more. Luckily I don’t have to.
Thank you for your reactions Julia!
Beautiful song by Lucio Dalla and great interpretation by Lara. Thank you Julia also for this tribute to our beautiful Italy.
Hurra!! Lara Fabian again. She is amazing and still going strong. Saw her in Tallin in october 2022. WOW!! The most beautiful voice of her generation. Thank you!
julias back at last so nice to see you loooking good and happy
Bayrischer Rundfunk :) mega! Grüße aus Deutschland ✌🏾😊
No one can top this rendition. Perfection. Please react to Broken Vow from the same concert next
Chills just seeing this video drop. Such a great performance and song. Good to see video Julia again.
Thank you for the intro🎉to this amazing opportunity. I am just blown away by her enthusiasm, energy and sheer talent. ❤❤❤❤❤
Love by Grace performed at the Canadian Juno awards show is another gorgeous song you'll love Great reaction by the way. Love your analysis. So glad to see you back.
e
une. Maîtrise et une voix impressionnante. !!!!
Wow. Good to see you back. Lara is amazing. great video.
Hi video Julia, hi caption Julia, good to see you and get this breakdown of the great Lara Fabian.
Her mother is Sicilian and she speak Italian too. Lara Fabian is very language agile. For example, when in Quebec, she can speak a Canadian-French without a hint of European accent. However, she is born in Belgium and does speak European French when she is in Europe.
So, for Caruso, I am sure her Italian background help a lot.
For more belting/dynamics tour de force from the same concert - "You're not from here" and "Perdere L' Amore".
Yes!
and Adagio!
@@legitor513in Italian! czcams.com/video/xXdQj2Vxcp4/video.html 😀
Ahh I never get tired of LARA! 😍 I also love how she can do a very conversational line and then hiiiiiiighlight one word.
Sustaining those delicate head voice / mixed notes is NOT easy!
Love to have you back Julia!
Like many others here, I recommend Perdere l'Amore, (same concert) or, if you want a different concert, (Molson) about the same time, Extrait de Yentl and Papa Can You Hear me. She sang these two Streisand songs for her parents who were in the audience celebrationg their wedding anniversary. Look forward to your next reaction!
Very interesting video especially for me 'cause it's an Italian song analyzed... I must admit that I didn't know that Lara Fabian has italian relatives and lived in Italy for years. Her pronounciation is indistinguishable from an italian morherlanguage. P.S. Hi Julia! So Happy You're back!
You are so pretty and gorgeous and even prettier when you enjoy the music 😊
Look "yentl" concert live 1998 ❤❤❤
video Julia os back! I missed you ❤ while Lara Fabian may not be what i listen to, i totally enjoy seeing you happy listening to her and that makes it worth it! jeep being amazing Julia
Yes that is the definition of a true exceptional talent. They make the hard look easy. You would think anyone could do this when in truth only a very few can. Is Lara the best. That is up to your own personal feelings because music is so subjective. Saying that this power house of a singer is one of the best I have ever heard and I am a Floor Jansen fan. A Lara Floor collab as to happen. I can just see Lara working with Arjen and Ayreon or a collab with Nightwish. That would be magical.
Given Lara understands, reads and speaks a bit dutch, it could be possible
Welcome back you brightened my evening! Then there is Lara and the GOAT-Greatest of all Tenors, Enrico Caruso. Since he died in 1921, she doesn't have a relationship with him, but as Jon Lovitz put it so well..... ACTING. She's like a lawyer who's also a doctor, and besides being multitalented, she's also not hard on the eyes. It's not fair. By the way, this was a television special, from Lara with Love in 1999. The whole special is on youtube, and even her White Christmas is awsome.
One of my favorite songs by this amazing singer! Thanks for the great reaction! I very much 'vibe with the sound she makes'!
Thank you for getting back to Lara. As fans, we all know there’s something very special about her skills and her performances, but we can’t explain why. Your analyses of her vocal skills and performances gives us explanations as to why fans love her artistry. Thank you Julia. Your own analysis skills are so adept at helping us understand the reasons we all remain loyal fans of Lara. I am now also a fan of yours.
Great reaction! I've been a fan of Lara for a long time now :)
One of the great tunes! Love Caruso! Lots of colours and moods in her voice. Sublime
Wow! What an entrancing discovery for me of Lara Fabian her indelible rendition of Caruso which I've often heard from Andrea Bocelli and wow Luciano Pavarotti! And now, wow, I had not heard female vocals to this song and a voice live that's so moving and captivating! Thank you, Julia Nilon!
The almost "angry" gesture you make at minute 9:50 of the video, after the word "afogare", is worth an Oscar.
Your gesture of admiration and "displeasure" for such a perfect execution is a marvel. As I have told you on other occasions, I love your way of analyzing and reacting to the interpretations you hear, providing not only very interesting information, but also beautiful gestures.
After many years of listening to music, I have not found any artist who has been able to tell a story the way Lara does. Many may not like the way she sings, but she is still one of the best performers of all time (BTW, for me, the best).
Anybody who does not like how Lara sings has big problems, either with their ears or in their brains.
I second that, and will also add that for me, her face at 15:12 (along with her singing ofc) always makes me cry
She truely lives the song, the sadness and sorrow in that face as the song about a man last days comes to an end...
Your comments regarding Lara's phrasing was very insightful. This -- and the effective use of dynamics -- is often the difference between a good singer and a true artist.
lookin' great, Jules.
Loverly seeing back reacting.🤗
So great to see you back! I love your beautiful, intelligent and nuanced reaction to one of my favorite artists. Thank you!
"it's too good" True words! Did you know she sang Barbara Streisand's Papa can you hear me and Piece of Sky??? Live!!
This is worth a Julia review.
technically she makes it looks so easy when no singer ever sang those songs live back to back like that. What a queen@@frankbirch3877
and Barbra does it better because Barbra doesn’t need to act like a out of breath in order to emote
@@lizatsurkan4323Go away with all your hatred Beeee!
I could listen to Lara Fabian all day... another great reaction Julia Nilon
Lara's career has been long, and this is definitely Lara as a young but mature artist with full vocal technique under complete control, and with magnificent timber and vocal tone throughout her range. I've never heard better as a 'pop' singer. Most are nowhere even close. Thanks for the reaction, and it's good to see you on CZcams again, Julia
her being a polyglot must've helped a lot in terms of understanding the song, and then delivering the story.
and for all I know, not just being able to speak fluently, she also understands the nuances of those language that she masters.
She is a master in languages hut here she is native in italian as she has been raised at the beginning of her childhood in Sicilia in her mother family. Italian is the first language she learned and when she moved back to Belgium, she refused to speak french for a while 😂
I love watching people like you who are passionate about their art.
Brilliant reaction Julia 🌷
Thank you for explaining the singing technicalities the way that they are easy to understand for the common person. Your reaction videos are easy and interesting to watch.
Great to see you again! Awesome reaction.
welcome back Julia, we have missed you.... and what a comeback, with the best vocal artist in my humble view.
Hey Ms Nilon, so good to see you back on these Internets! I agree that this is a great performance, but I don't know that I could do 8 to 10 songs back-to-back. But hey, that's me, y'all do you 🙂
So happy you are reacting to her again and congratulations on 300,000 subscribers! That's amazing! What an incredible performance. My favourite female singer for sure. I recommend some more of her songs to react to. Broken Vow, You're not from here and Perdere l'amore. They are amazing like all her songs!
Greetings from London 😀
