Cardano Stake Pool Fees and How To Choose a StakePool

In this video I explain what the stake pool fees are and what they are used for along with all the other factors you should consider when you are looking at delegating to a stake pool.

The main fees are:
1 - Pool Fixed costs - which is normally set at 340 ADA as this is the minimum set out by the network.
2 - Pool Margin % - set by pool operator and can be anything from 0% to 100%
Other factors to consider when choosing a stake pool are
- Pool Pledge - This is the amount of ADA contributed by a stake pool operator at the start
- Saturation - this is determined by the k value and this is the point at which new delegators negatively affect the rewards other delegators receive
- Performance - how well has the pool been performing in producing blocks and its up time
- What the pool operator gives back to the community, is the pool operator active in the community and giving back.

Love your videos Paul! I'm very new to ADA and have got a couple of questions. So when you delegate your tokens to a pool you pay a fee, will this fee return to you? And what if for example I decide to redelegate the same day or any other days in the future epochs, do I loose that fee and have to pay one more to enter another pool?

When you stake first you pay a 2 ADA deposit to the network which you get back when you stop staking. You also pay a transaction fee as you send a transaction on the blockchain to sign your stake key, you are free to change pools at any point and if you do you just pay another transaction fee to change your stake key.

@@CardanoWithPaul I just set up my Daedalus and I'm trying to stake now. I was able to find your pool but it says at "potential rewards" 0.000 ADA. How indicative is this number? Is it because you're still building your pool?

Thats an error in Daedalus as we are producing blocks and rewards in every epoch. Last epoch was 6% and this epoch is set to be over 6% so everyone that stakes is getting good rewards

Hi Paul, question regarding entering a pool at a high(ish) saturation level. Am I right in assuming that the saturation level for pools refreshes with each epoch, or do I enter the pool and stay staked at the same level of saturation throughout all the following epochs where I potentially earn fewer rewards compared to someone who staked in a less saturated pool?

Saturation is a measure on the pool so its never locked for anyone, it just fluctuates with the stake in the pool

I currently have the margin fee set to 0% on my pool until delegators are getting consistent rewards so currently there is no profit in the pool for me to even consider donating but once there is I will look at it again as I generally donate to charities outside the pool throughout the year.
