- I built a cheap brush cutter for my skid steer for clearing my new property.
i got this brush mower for free years ago and decided to adapt it to run on my skid steer loader.
all the parts came from surpluscenter.com and cost me less than $500.
Hope you enjoy! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Did a great job on it. Nice work!
Thanks a lot!
Sweet video! I think this channel will grow fast soon. Keep it up man!
Thanks! I have some really awesome brush hog footage I just haven’t had time to edit it yet.
Came out good served its purpose !
For sure! I have a lot more footage coming of it and some repairs cause shortly after the end of this video it kinda grenaded hahah
Keep the guard on the Minnie and be safe
Nice build, hope you get lots of use out of it
That's the plan!
Nice job ..good idea
Thanks!
Thanks, great job. Would like to see a parts list. I'm in the planning stage of building one. Thanks again:-)
Hey I don’t really
Have a parts list. Was mostly just matching up
What parts would work. I found a formula to
Calculate hydraulic motor rpm vs displacement to get the right motor. The rest was just matching up
Hoses, shafts and couplers.
You got just what you need right there so way buy a new one that one there looks like it work great so I would not just go out and buy a new one you made something that works well so just keep that one ........
The only thing I see as a potential problem is your coupler. It is a rigid straight coupler. Which should realistically have a floating motor mount to compensate for shaft wobble. I had a similar setup it literally just had an arm over a rod to keep the motor from rotating, allowing it to wobble. Another coupler that allows for rigid motor mounting is a chain coupler. It is literally 2 sprockets with a double row chain holding them together. The nice thing about that is it allows for different bore sizes.
Nice conversion.
Make covers for the belts & pulleys. Will last longer.
Put some good quality belts on.
Maybe look at front cover or some chains.
Dont leave it open due to flying stones.
Sharpen blades and give it a coat of paint. Brushcutter can make you good money.
Hey,
I have covers for it they just weren't on it in the video. its also got new belts too!
it had chains on the front but i removed them because it was causing small brush to no feed into the cutter properly. i dont plan to ever use this on a jobsite, just needed to clear some land I purchased and figured it would be a fun project to build. Thanks for watching!
With a set of wheels on the mower you can set the boom in float and let it ride it will follow the hills.
I thought about that, I think I need to re position where the skid steer bracket is. Right now it’s too high up and doesn’t travel well. The wheels may be a good addition aswell
@@AbramsExcavating I converted an old road side Almo flail mower, it has the rear roller but I added a set of wheels on the front and it follows the ground well. Also put a swivel on it so it would tilt from side to side, it worked for a while but broke as it was too much weight for the pivot point, I need to rework it with an axel that in tilts on. Also run on a jcb t-3.
I had thought about converting a flail for on my excavator!
Good "Reuse" project. Question is though - What are you going to mount the grapples to? A grapple for the Kubota?
Well I have a grapple for the kubota, honestly I’ll probably build my own skid steer grapple. I built those grapples when the cheap ones immediately broke the first time I hooked them up.
I have an old bucket laying around that’ll I’ll use as the base and build from there. Might film it but it’ll probably just be a time lapse
Where did you get the manifold for the hydraulic motor? I need the same thing. Nice video.
Hey, so I buy all my hydraulic parts through surplus center. The manifold i think you are talking about is actually a check valve or backflow preventer. I bought that through surplus center aswell.i cant remember the technical term for it, but its basically a one way valve that allows the motor to "free spool" while the blades still have momentum.
What kind of hydrolic pump do you use to achieve the cutting speed?
I matched up a hydraulic motor using a flow calculator. I needed 540rpm out of the motor. So I figured out my
GPM on the skid steer and matched it with the correct displacement hydraulic motor to achieve 540 rpm.
Hi, very good job ! how many cubic centimeters or inch the motor are ?, how many GPM did de JCB Achieve ? How you make calculations to conect a 540 rpm to hydraulic ? Thank you, Im trying to do the same job, but here, were i live nobody knows how.
Hey,
So off the top of my
Head I do not remember. However the way I figured out what size motor to use was by using a hydraulic motor calculator. I found one where you could input your flow rate and rpm and it would tell you what displacement motor you need. I think I may have gotten a little larger motor than I needed because I don’t normally run my skid steer full throttle. Being it has a foot throttle you tend to not rev it as high as often.
I think my jcb is good for around 18GPM
@@AbramsExcavating thank you.
Good evening, I'm from Brazil! What model of the directional valve is connected to the hydraulic motor? Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for stopping by, so that directional valve is nothing special. It’s just a one way flow valve.
I order my hydraulic parts from supply house.com but you should be able to get one of these valves off amazon.

Thanks for helping me.@@AbramsExcavating
So basically you shat on the JD GT and SCUT army :))) i have a x595, I would be much better off with something like this
this brush mower on the skid loader blows away any garden tractor! id say its even better than a brush cutter on a full size tractor. it really grinds stuff up haha
