    I've been doing for years with old beater mowers I get out of the trash. I even cut saplings with them. I don't worry about the wheel extensions either. When I blow up the mower, I move on to the next one. Angle grinder at the ready!

    Hey. I found a push mower similar to yours on the street for garbage last summer. It only needed a sheer pin on the shaft... and it works like new. It's a 7.5 hp, and it's really strong enough for brush cutting. I will install two wheels on the front like you did. I noticed that it was kind of hard on the arms for me, and it looks like it was the same for you. But hey, it was free, so I don't care to work out a bit! I had a big part of my land to clean, and it just did the job. Tks.

    Actually at 7:41 you should’ve have made U-shaped bar in place of that bar and welded it to the wheels axle and keeping the wheels right in the same location they were prior. And then cut the center part of bar out and then you would be able to cut as you want to and still have the strength and alignment of the original shaft!

    If you want it to last you'll need either a shear pin or to separate the blade from the motor with a belt. That's what makes the brush hogs so durable.

    • @davidvickers8425
      @davidvickers8425 Před 2 lety

      The blades rotate on brush mowers so they spin when they impact.

  • @google_lucrenedepoorter_at5590

    Carlos, well done to make a brush mower with cheap of the shelf equipment. One remark : on consumer lawnmowers the crankshaft is directly connected to the blade and is as such obsorbing all shocks ... but then again ... you will find another scrap lawnmower ...

    • @Cmolejon
      @Cmolejon  Před 2 lety

    • @davidvickers8425
      @davidvickers8425 Před 2 lety +1

      Brush mowers have rotating blades on a swivel so the blade hits something but doesnt effect the shaft.
      Flail mowers are the best result.

    • @Cmolejon
      @Cmolejon  Před 4 lety

      maybe not. Having a good sharp blade is probably best. If you are trying to cut anything bigger than maybe 1/4 thickness and dense, you should probably get a stronger machine. This thing has cleared so much brush/grass its great :D

    Gonna make mine with a shield or deflector plate in front of the motor, that thing seems to spray a lot of debris , also going to wear a full face shield when operating.

    • @Cmolejon
      @Cmolejon  Před 4 lety +3

      Face shield is a good idea. I always wear eye protection. For the most part I'm just cutting tall grass. I used it to cut really heavy brush at a friend's property and eye protection seemed sufficient. I thought about a plate for engine but this was so cheap I didn't bother

    I just had this idea and I’m happy to see other people like you who have had success doing the same. My one question is: How well does it cut lawn grass after the mod? My assumption is that the loss of suction would cause it to not make as clean a cut on thinner grass as it did originally? Obviously it’s meant for thicker brush now but I’m just curious. Thanks
