- Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2008 | Burgundy is a calm and cultivated corner of France, where fine living is intimately tied to nature and traditions run strong. We'll slow down to enjoy the region's edible, drinkable, scenic, and floatable delights. We'll travel on a canal barge, visit a medieval hospice and a modern monastery, build a barrel, appreciate fine Burgundy wine, slurp escargot, and eat very, very well. If you're looking for quintessential French culture, you'll find it in Burgundy. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #burgundy

I'm traveling around Europe with Rick Steves during this pandemic 😜
Me 2 !
Same
Love you beby
Me too
yeah, imagine sticking your nose in those glass wine snifters these days.
The bad soil being good for the vines because it builds the character of the grape is the most French thing I've ever heard. And I'm a French teacher.
True
😂❤
13:55 OMG 🤣🤣🤣 “Whether you choose to swallow or to spit, you can still enjoy a good finish *winks*” 🤣

If anybody is wondering why some people in the comments are saying "Himmler" or "TNO" let me explain. There is a mod for a game called Hearts of Iron 4 called The New Order in which Germany won ww2. In the game, the state of Burgundy is led by Heinrich Himmler. Burgundy in the game is basically a nation sized concentration camp.
The French hate or love them but without them our world wouldn't have been the same. Their contribution to humanity in various fields is unrivaled.
Yep.
Sorry if we are grumpy and rude from time to time. But that's just from the outside. See it as our protective shell from our own insecurity and also because we hate facade smiles.
We really are teddy bears inside... you just need to spend a few friendly minutes with us and it will come right out ! :) Cheers !
It's the same for most countries.
@@eEridani I like the unfriendliness, if my country was that beautiful I’d want to be left alone from tourists too
Totally agree.
gaming (funi tno reference)
epic
I like how at 12:37 The woman is telling Rick to observe the wine but he's already downing it.
Well... not like he does it every day so I think the lesson there is she does this every single day she couldn't afford to keep swallowing if she did she'd be an alcoholic LOL
France is an amazing beautiful country .... heaven for the tourists!
Spent a week on a rent boat in a canal in Burgundy. Easy, lovely. French people are nice. 10/10 would do it again.
There is no hope under the ordenstaat…
I knew one of these would be here

France, what a beautiful country!!! I love It so much.
It's a shame the French have to live there, eh?
@alain mancini-brown if you didn't notice my name I am doing this thing called "humor." You should look it up.
You mean, France doesn't have dirty old buildings?I've seen plenty in Paris, not too few in Strasbourg.Amiens? Verdun? Lille? Ugly new ones as well.I know some French people that love tea...There's bad food served in France too. Jealous? Who is jealous?I've I need a dose of Frenchness, I can make myway to Quebec or Louisiana......dirty old buildings andsome new ones along the way!
AGREE!
I'm not a French basher. Where I live I can easily make my way downto New Orleans and drink and feast and watch the crazy world parade from my balcony room in the Vieux Carre. Why would I need to go to France? New Orleans is a bit of France and Spain and the Caribbean all to be found in a hundred square blocks.
I LOVE RICK STEVE'S NARRATION AND PRESENTATION. WHAT A CLASS-PERSON!...SINCE 2016!
Found this channel today, and can't get enough of it. Perfect channel for a cozy weekend watch.
He is still on PBS. You can even go to your public library and rent Rick Steve's DVD's.
Agree :)
I used to only watch Rick’s shows but I’ve been addicted lately to his live zoom meetings on Monday nights. He goes through several videos and then will pause here and there to tell you fun facts or behind the scenes info that never made it to TV. It really changed how much I enjoyed his show positively.
does he still do that?
@@Isawwhatyoudid Yes. He says he will continue to do them as long as he can.
If I could I would spend my entire life traveling everyday! Especially if through Europe.
Ideally travelling by bike! :)
@@Meyaleleth or a motorcycle/moped
Wow, what a great a idea to rent a house in the french country side and shopping for local food, this definitely became one of my goals now
I hope this travel show continues for years to come. I enjoy every show. Rick does a great job of introducing the viewer to the delights of travel.
Hello Kerry
in lockdown for the past 1 month.... what a wonderful world
WONDERFUL, BURGUNDY DOCUMENTARY !
The documentary transitioned from 'spit-swallow' to pious Taize community. Loved it!!!
Me about to fill comment section of every video that has word Burgundy in it with gamer TNO SS Ordenstaat Burgund refferences.
Last summer me and my parents had a summer vacation with our boat. We live in the Netherlands, Brabant to be exact and went all the way to the Dordogne, Cahors by inland waters. And really its the most relaxing and fun way to see hidden gems of our lovely Europe. Best vacation I've had with my parents 🙂
that sounds so amazing!
My man, Rick Steve's, the Bob Ross of travel!

I will definitely travel on a canal boat when the world opens up again!
great lesson on smelling , chewing and spitting wine :))) I knew this before, but this time it was a very simple and clear explanation.
Vadim Daskal I thought so as well!
you are so engaging - thank you for your documentaries
Hello Jeannie
I'd love to do the boat trips on French canals. Although I'm not a wine fancier, I enjoyed learning about the process & developing appreciation. The medieval hospice is fascinating. My favorite segment is the one on Cluny & Fontenay Abbeys. I love those silent, haunting, yet spiritual corridors where monks once walked, worked, & prayed. Interesting to learn how the monasteries set the stage for Europe's industrial base, though its ultimate fulfillment still centuries away. I was born in Germany in 1957, retaining no memories. Aside from that, however, I've never been to Europe. Envisioning myself in France, as I fantasized while watching this program, is simply mind-boggling to me. I'm not sure I could focus or even comprehend anything, as I'd be so awestruck, feeling I was in a dream! I DO so hope I get there someday. In the meantime, I'm trying to learn French!
2:30
You can see a fish jump out of the water behind the boat
Please keep making videos, never stop because I watch your each and every video, I love your videos and thanks to your channel for showing us such a awesome adventure videos 😍😍❤️❤️👏👍👌🤝 love from 🇮🇳
Rich Steves knows how to live......
+Grace Serena Christie these are working vacations you know-he has to write and get the script going--still its enjoyable
windstorm1000 He now has people to do most of the work and I'm sure he now is able to enjoy these vacations more than work. He has so many friends wherever he goes. Wouldn't that be a wonderful life? He built it up from his early teenage years. I find it amazing that he has turned it into what it is today. Just imagine a young boy and his friend traveling on a shoe string and now this! Just Wow!!!!

My parents are planning a trip to France this year and your videos are very helpful. They have been my favourite programme (favorite program) since 2006. I wish I had known about them when I lived in Europe.
Beautiful places....oh ....I love that.
Rick made a pretty provocative joke at 13:53 .. the woman was into it
Brady Armstrong I think Rick swallows.
Lucas Bookfield i'd be borderline disappointed if he didn't
😂😵😵🤣😂😁
I was cringing at that scene...but Rick (even though i love him) is such a nerd...I do not think he knew what he was doing. but anyways...hahahahahaha

Hi,
Steves .your every clog is beautiful
Just stumbled to your Lake Como episode the other day, and I am just hooked on your episodes. Very addicting and never boring, even if its been years that you have published this.
13:50 Have I lived in England too long? For goodness sake that innuendo was a bit of a shocker after this and other cerebral episodes on this channel!

But what can you expect from a man who used to visit Europe By The Backdoor? 🤩
