- Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2020 | After exploring the proud cuisine capital of Lyon - which, at least in its own mind, rivals Paris - we head for Chamonix, in the shadow of western Europe’s tallest peak: Mont Blanc. With the classic alpine resort as our springboard, we make some high-altitude cheese, then ride the lift up to the Aiguille du Midi and over to the border of Italy. And we hike the Tour du Mont Blanc - the trail that circles that iconic mountain. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #frenchalps

So polite and humble. Reminding us of old days and not like today's travel vloggers.....your travel videos are Excellent treat to watch
yes.. absolutely :)
@@malaikahdejesus5591 OMG
Theres a lot of travel vloggers who are really nice and welcoming, you dont have to put them down.
Ugh, nowadays these travel vlogs are so superficial, people just go to film and look at pretty things, is so refreshing to see some critical thinking and actual appreciation of their surroundings
@@SuperLara007 Again, not all of them. You are grouping every single new vloger and thats just trash and not fair, because there ARE actual good travel vloggers besides this.
Rick Steves does such a great job adding the historical and cultural relevance to the sites of each region.
My problem with the Rick Steves films... they are too short!!! Loved this episode!!
well, then you may want to consider buying his CD's. i got them all and they are fantastic.
@@jonam7589 CD’s? Not DVD’s? 🤭
@@industrect5337 You're right. I meant DVD. Thanks for the correction and reminding me that I should watch the rest.
Rick has such a wonderful personality
This part of France looks magnificent, I hope I can visit it sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
What a wonderful episode! Thank you Rick for keeping our travel dreams alive!
The French Alps are as beautiful as the food in France is good. The area around mont Blanc is breathtaking! Big like from Switzerland!
Love from India
Beautiful place
The French Alps are indeed quite lovely!
⁰ⁿ
The food is well overrated compared to Italian.
It’s all cream, fats and grease.
Add spice and they whine “trop piquant”!
For the tranquil traveller, Lyon makes for a wonderful alternative to Paris, and I say this as a Parisian. The Lyonnais are friendlier than the Parisians (arguably), the food scene feels more authentic and homely, the city is much more manageable and is the perfect gateway to fan out to Provence, Savoie or Bourgogne (Burgundy), or even Italy (Piedmont/Genova) and Switzerland.
Thanks for the characteristic warmth in the video Rick :)
exactly right
Definitely. I love Lyon.
but i m agree that lyon food is the best from all aw to getrhrer for real Lyon Gastronomy is a must have
This was my all time favorite episode... it just had everything: city sights, historic sights, food, nature... can't wait to go back to Europe!
I agree, I love this episode
Thanks Rick and PBS for putting full episodes on CZcams! 👍🏼 I am planning my first trip to Europe for my 50th birthday in two years, hopefully everything will get back to normal to travel by then! I am watching all Rick;s videos and reading up on his travel guides..Hopefully Rick can get back soon to do new shows, post pandemic travel experience Europe soon.
Lyon is a beautiful place. Chamonix is too crowded and expensive for our tastes. The Vercors Region just south of Grenoble has beautiful views, fabulous hikes, food that’s to die for, and it’s much less crowded and much less expensive. The Resistance Museum is a must see. The French Alps and Lyon are my favorite parts of France.
Lyon is beautiful & charming but all I can remember was the hills I had to climbs during 2 short visits in the early 2000
Just love steve presentation🤗
..
Lyon is so underrated!
Of all the zillions of places you have gone and shared with us on your Travels, this one is just INSPIRING in the upmost. I;ve been to Lyon and fell head over heels for the city, but didn't get to Chamonix or the French Alps. Your show has made me reach for my pack and head back to Lyon and walk the Tour de Mont Blanc! Thanks Rick.
I think this episode is different because of the hike and stays at the little huts/hostel instead of a typical hotel. I like this type of trails with rest stops and cheese shops etc. I don't know which part of the world you are from, but last summer I learned about the Trans Catalina trails just west of LA. It also have transportation company for bags to the next station and the hike is aprox 3 days and you need to set up your own tents, you can order fired woods & water etc. I have a knee injury so I can only camp but not able to hike long distance.
I love Rick Steve’s Europe
Another impressive Rick Steves episode!
The man is in great shape
Love from India
Rick, you been giving us the most authentic travel videos
Many thanks to Rick and all the people involved in this video production. I have seen many, many videos of this channel, and never been disappointed in any. This episode is definitely one of the many best.
One of the original travel bloggers❤
I've just come back from Lyon and Chamonix and enjoyed every minute of it, thanks to you, Rick Steves!
Rick Steves ignited the passion of Europe in me. I'll visit all the countries of Europe without fail. Someday sooner.
I love the hiking feature. I can do it vicariously through you and Cassandra!
Dabney, did the TMB in 2019, spent the first two nights at the same cabanes (refuges) as Steve. If you have the opportunity go for it.
@@johnbailey3351 oh I so want to! It's a bucket list travel goal!
So relaxing 🥱😌. I want to spend a half decade in France with an old 2CV. The French are lucky to have a country with so much of everything. History, culture, cuisine, the most beautiful scenery in Europe, technology, economy, a beautiful language.
Absolument d'accord !! .... Et c'est pour çà que j'ai posé mes valises en france il y a plus de 40 ans .... Je ne voudrais être nulle part ailleurs sur cette terre !! .... J'ai vu beaucoup de pays .... Il n'y a rien au dessus de la france ... 😂😂😂
Seeing Rick Steves in a Cascadia shirt makes me love him even more.
Such a refreshing type of travel vlogs. Humble.
Humble, polite and classy, that’s how i like travel vloggers.
I really enjoyed the pace and content of this video. I tried one other random travel vlog of Paris, and the pacing was anything but relaxing -- a new picture every 1-2 seconds, with a very fast-paced feel. Also, it showed a lot of food but not a lot of shots of the scenery and architecture, so I didn't really feel like I was getting any sense for the place. This video, on the other hand, was like a breath of fresh air. Thanks for putting together such a great piece and letting us get a tiny taste of what the place feels like!
This is one of your best, Rick! Thanks so much for keepin' on keepin' on!
Great to see Rick back out on the travels...🧐🗿🌱🌍
This must be old video. Cant see anyone with mask
@@shubhamargade7654
Possibly. I would think it's not more than two years ago at the most. 🧐🤔🙋🗿
@@shubhamargade7654
I see what you mean of course, great point. 🙋🍻🌱
This is old video. I watched it before my trip to Lyon in 2019 and it wasn't new then.
yes Indeed.. :)
My 2yr old knows the Rick Steve's jingle already. We ❤ Rick Steves and when I travelled to Europe last, when I was pregnant with my child, he was my saviour! I knew what to look for and even how to do what I needed. Just fabulous. Thanks Rick!
Another great video, Rick. Thank you. Always opening my eyes to new places and giving me new travel ideas, can hardly wait for your next video.
Tres magnifique ! Superb mountain trails, atmospheric views, fabulous gondola rides, hearty food in the company of nature loving companions. Doesn't get better.
I love your videos, thank you! A little funny to hear you making a documentary about the French Alps, and Chamonix, without even mentioning that it is the greatest ski destination in the world!
Yay! Rick's back. Another fantastic travel guide, looking forward to many more.
Excellent content, Rick!
Thanks for taking us away and reminding us the pleasures of journeys.
With your videos I feel I am with you and enjoying it as much as you do. Thanks for these amazing docus.
Thank you, i really enjoy your Program in these difficult times.
Stay safe👋
Rick, keep up the good work. Been enjoying your show for years.
We're heading to Chamonix in two days. Thanks Rick for this great information
Your shows have kept me sane during the pandemic. Thank you!
One of Steve’s best episodes ever!
Loved it.
Great episode Steve! You are a terrific travel host! This region is so beautiful!!!!Love the mountains!!!
If I hike for 6 hours/day on high altitude, I will need to eat more than 1 sausage lol This episode is different, instead of a typical hotel, Rick was staying in a hut/hostel, the kind of environment I like. It will motivate me to hike when I know there's a cheese shop on the way! My first visit to Lyon was a day trip from Paris, then my second visit to Lyon was a 3 days stay, all I remember was all the hills I had to walked up to with my luggage!
Before 2019, I was planning my hike to Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. Thru my research, I learned that it's a very expensive trip. The 8 days hike must be guided, the crew will carry all the food/water, cookware etc to cook at each stop, set up tent etc. There's no hut like this trail, so the price tag was too high for me and I found out my knee injury prevents from this type of hike, it's a good thing I didn't commit to it. Instead, I went to spend 23 days in 2019 all over Turkey, including 3 days of sailing along the Turkish Rivera, I had a great time exploring a new country. During last year lock down, I was so glad I traveled all over the places in 2019.
Fantastic video, thanks
Thank you million times .. you give me the courage to go for it 😌😌🙏🏼🙏🏼🤍
Great video, Rick! We always enjoy watching your videos!👏🏻👏🏻
Always looking forward to your next upload.
Much love from Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪.
Till next time, keep them coming.
Lyon and the French Alps look amazing. Wish I could afford to see it in person.
I travel to Europe every year but before I do, I watch one of your videos of the country I am visiting. Thanks Steve!

Beautiful Amazing Views 💙❤️
Great Video. Thank you for posting.
coming to lyon this september, so excited!
Europe love it so much!
Please keep giving us more new episodes!
Rick has a way of de-politicizing the areas and experiences he proposes to us. Which is not always easy to do, I am sure, because he takes us to places that were at times, throughout history, highly "political" (I am using a polite word, here). Mid August 2021: When I finish reading the news and I am looking for just an experience of being alive and enjoying basic things like breathing fresh air, looking at beautiful sceneries and eating delicious food, I come to Rick. Thank you, Rick.
Was in Chamonix in 1984.Visited Mont Blanc,Thonon-les-Bain,Lausanne,Montreux,Geneve and Evian.Amazing trip.
Oh, God.. This is so beautiful. Can someone please invite me to this cuddling, romantic, stunning country..?

Truly heavenly..
Your videos calm me down
What a beautiful area.
What a wonderful episode
Thanks Rick Steves
loving it and my dream one day should be to make it here .Thanks Rick for this wonderful video
This is probably my favorite episode. That part of the world has something for everyone. However, as an American who has been under some state of lockdown or another for the last year, lost a lot of income, have been under the threat of job loss, and generally just not had a great experience moving around my own community, I have a hard time believing my eyes when I watch this video filmed in July and August of 2020. The Tour de France, which normally runs in July was postponed to later in the year. And yet Rick is traveling around the same part of the country where the race was to be and all we are is people enjoying themselves without a mask in sight. Restaurants are open, cable cars and trains are jammed with travelers and people are having a wonderful time. I can’t decide whether I’m jealous or if I have been duped. Were these videos perhaps shot at an earlier time than what is stated in the credits?
Someone said elsewhere in the comments that the video was shot in July and August of 2019, not 2020, but it aired in 2020. This isn't anything that I know personally, but just something someone else said. So hopefully it's correct information. :)
