Of course, it's sad to hear of her passing but as you said she did live to the ripe old age of 97. May she Rest in Peace.
Ms Rush was always such a beautiful and classy lady. RIP.
RIP Barbara Rush. As a kid in the 70's I fell in love with Barbara when I saw her in "When worlds Collide" and her roll in "Robin and the Seven Hoods". Beautiful and talented.
Ditto!
Me too! Still have the DVD.
When Worlds collide is a great movie too. Still relevant today in my opinion.
Miss Carolyn Hennessy who Plays the "Attorney Diane Miller" on "General Hospital" is Miss Barbara Rush's equally talented and beautiful Niece. My Condolences to Both Families.😔B.W.
And oddly enough how about this? Before She was "Nora Clavicle" on a "Batman" Episode, way back in 1959 Miss Barbara Rush was the Female Lead in a Movie called "The Young Philadelphians." Paul Newman Played a promising Lawyer. Controversy raged around his real Parentage. Guess who Played young Newman's Biological Dad? Uh huh Adam West!😂😉 Incidentally that same year Adam West played a villain on a "Bonanza" Episode. So yes you had "Real Adam" vs. "TV Adam" (as in "Cartwright", Played by Pernell Roberts)!😂🤣😂😉🎤🤠🐴🦇🚶♂️👨⚖👩⚖🎥📺B.W.
Nora Clavicle was such a classy villainess despite her bad intentions towards Gotham and the Dynamic Duo. R.I.P., Barbara Rush.
She almost destroyed Gotham with her Police Force of Useless Gender Hires who were standing around talking about Makeup Tips and Hairstyles while Criminals were blatantly breaking the Law in front of them.
This Episode was ahead of It's time.
97 years -- a great run.
Barbara could take a character in a TV show or movie and make it her very own. So very talented. Thank you Barbara for giving us so many memories. Rest well!! ☺️❤️
And we still have Julie Newmar too. Barbara Rush was a very lovely lady
And she's the only guest villain to still be with us.
@KevinMiller-xn5vu
John Astin and Joan Collins are still alive. Plus, Lee Meriwether if you include the movie.
Julie has an active website and was still doing autographed photos as of last year. Getting a personalized, signed picture from her is the crown jewel of my Catwoman collection.
Leslie Parrish who played Daisy Mae in Lil Abner (1959) which also featured Julie Newmar as Stupefyin' Jones is still alive.
She played Mr. Freeze's henchwoman, Glacia Glaze / Emma Strunk.
She also played Lt. Carolyn Palamas on the Who Mourns For Adonais? episode of Star Trek.
She is 89 years old.
Edit: She also played an actress named Dawn Robbins who is kidnapped by The Penguin.
@@PaulTestaLee Merriwether also played Lisa Carson, a socialite who is kidnapped by King Tut in the season 2 episodes, King Tut's Coup and Batman's Waterloo.
Barbara Rush’s son graduated from Navy Boot Camp at the Great Lakes Naval Station in October 1977. My brother graduated with him. She gave an interesting speech.
I went to the same boot camp Oct 1982...
As a kid growing up in the 60s Batman was my favorite show next to the Munsters
Julie Newmar is still alive as well as Lee Meriwether. Also still live are Sharyn Wynters and Jeremy Clyde from Chad and Jeremy.
Hey, Julie Newmar is still around, too. Can't forget the ultimate Catwoman.
She was a talented actress and beautiful lady! My condolences to her family during this time of great loss!
I remember she played Morgan Fairchild's mother on Flamingo Road (1980-1982). Rest In Peace Barbara Rush.
THAT'S why she seems so familiar aside from her movies! Thanks! Usually when I thought of "Flamingo Road," I thought of Mark Harmon and Morgan Fairchild, and I haven't seen any of it since the 1980s. RIP Barbara Rush 🤗
That's where I know her from. Nighttime 80's soap. Impossible for me to remember all the Batman villains. Good for her!
She was married to one of my favorite actors, Jeffery Hunter of The Searchers, King of Kings and Star Trek Pilot. Honestly, I have no recollection of Clavicle AT ALL which is strange being a Batman fan since the early '70s. She was lovely though.
So sad! I have 2 of the movies she was in. "It came from outer space" and " When worlds collide". Wow! 97 yrs. is a long life!
Pure class! Loved her in so many things! She had a beautiful life! R.I.P. Barbara Rush! 😢💔👼🏼🙏🏼
Oh boy I'm really going to miss Sadly & Suddenly passing away one of the greatest double acts in showbusiness !!
Loved her work on The Fugitive. Guest starred in a two parter in 1965. ❤
Yes, Marie Lindsey Gerard. Lovely.
When I saw it, I was convinced she was nominated for and must have won an Emmy for best guest star, or something along those lines. Fantastic performance and a crime we didn’t see her as a recurring character.
Actress Linda Gaye Scott is still around, alive and kicking!
She played "Moth"!
Actress Sivi Aberg is alive, she played "Undine" , the Joker's sidekick! 🃏
Actress Joan Collins also is alive, she played "The Siren"!
Judy Strangis (age 74) who is the sister of Sam Strangis, Batman's Unit Production Manager played a teenage fan of Chad and Jeremy on Batman (and Dyna-Girl on Electra Woman & Dyna-Girl of course!) is still alive.
Kathy Kersh (age 81) who played The Joker's henchwoman, Cornelia and was Burt Ward's real life wife is still alive.
Donna Loren (age 77) who played a cheerleading classmate of Dick Grayson that The Joker corrupts and then tries to kill is still alive.
Sherry Jackson (age 82) as Pauline who was interrogated by Batman and Commissioner Gordon in The Batcave is still alive.
Diana Ivarson who played Baby Jane Towser when The Joker won the art contest is still alive.
Terry Moore (age 95) who as Venus was thrown to the giant clam with Batman and Robin is still alive.
@@andrewweisneck1102 Wow, Terry Moore was once married to the eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes - she later said that their marriage was never "consummated." Well... I won't go there. Cheers to all!
She played a significant role in the final episode of the first season of classic Outer Limits, a character who was a helpless ingenue type to Vera Miles' more strong-willed character. It's a very strange show with a murder/time travel/haunted house vibe that included David McCallum and Sir Cedric Hardwick in one of his last (if not the last) roles. The Forms of Things Unknown was a backdoor pilot for a show that producers Joe Stefano and Leslie Stevens couldn't sell. Its soundtrack by Dominic Frontierre is fabulously haunting. I'm pitching for you to delve into that old series once you're done mining the Twilight Zone of its gems and quirks.
That was a good episode. Thanks for pointing out Mrs. Rush may she RIP. The Soundtrack was also used later in the 60's in "The Invaders".
I wish I knew the title of that episode.
@@elultimo102 umm... it was called The Forms of Things Unknown
Oh, I made a comment about the same "Outer Limits" episode before I saw yours. It was indeed the last theatrical appearance of the wonderful actor, Sir Cedric Hardwicke - he brilliantly played a blind man in that episode, and passed on very shortly after.
@rivaridge7211 Nice! I note your name as I remember watching a quality thoroughbred racehorse named Riva Ridge. Later on, I saw him and Secretariat at Claiborne Farm in the early 80s.
WHO ? i'm still in love with Cat Woman 🥰
Julie darling ❣️
I'm from that era but never heard of her.
One of those character actors you "recognize" when you see them, but don't know their names.
I'm not surprised that Batman actors are dying as it has been over 50 years since the show ended.
Just heard this morning she passed away. Prayers for her family.
RIP Barbara Rush. She was an amazingly talented woman and will be missed. Thank you for the video Rick, I hope you’re doing well. Keep up the great work and take care!
so sorry for her passing I was a big fan of the show growing up at a great time in our history sadly there are all getting up there in age and can’t live forever my deepest condolences to the family she was part of alot of peoples youth growing up
Ms, Rush: Thank you for entertaining for so long. You will be missed.
To the family of Ms. Rush: your sorrow is shared by her fans. We will try lessening your burden. With deep respects and much love. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing. I loved the 60s BATMAN TV show. Sad that Barbara Rush has passed away, but 97 is a good age. She was also in Flamingo Road, the TV series which aired 1980-82.
Really enjoy your fact-finding channel & appreciate your heartfelt updates on some of our favorite actors lives!
I just watched her two episodes of Batman last night as a tribute. Glynis Johns passed recently as well so that just leaves Special Guest Villains Julie Newmar, John Astin and Joan Collins.
Barbara Rush was always one of my favorites due to her prime Sci-Fi pedigree with It Came from Outer Space and When Worlds Collide. But also loved her in Robin and the 7 Hoods, Hombre, Oh Men! Oh Women! and some of her TV appearances like the TV movie Moon of the Wolf, the original Outer Limits as well as one of the revivals in the late 1990s. And also in a Night Gallery episode (although it wasn't one of the better ones. But she was, as always, charming and beautiful)
She will be missed.
Hey Rick. I’m not sure I’d call Ms. Rush’s passing “suddenly.” And don’t forget Julie Newmar is still with us at age 90. 😃
I concur. Dying suddenly means young(ish) and no signs of a condition that caused the death. E.g., John Ritter and Bob Saget. If either of them knew they had a lethal medical condition, they would've sought immediate treatment. Old age or a diagnosed condition doesn't fit that.
@@rager1969 Don't forget Jim Henson.
@@disneyfan8178 Can if I want.
There’s lots of suddenly-unexpectedly going on
Right! And so is Burt Ward Lee Meriwether!
She was great on Batman and the idea of insuring the city for a substantial amount of money they blow it up with wind up rats is interesting but it also shows how the budget was decreased in with some sets in the episode like when they are play the flutes in the episode
She's gorgeous a true beauty
B. R. - one of the best film actresses around in the 40s and 50s!
May she rest in peace. 🙏
Thanks for the update. She was much loved in this home. Love your channel.
Such a great show sad news Rick classic show thanks for this update rest in peace
She was a great actress😢
Barbara Rush was always a stunning woman even in her golden years! This episode of Batman spoke on different levels regarding feminism, equality, politics, and deception. It had to play to its audience though, so a lot of the hidden subtexts remained weak. To me anyway.
One role I remember most of Ms. Rush was that of Phylis Nash in the reunion episode of another tv classic, Maude.
Two friends reunite after many years, Maude being jealous of what she perceived as Phylis ‘s successful life and Phylis envious of what she perceived as Maude’s successful life. Great episode, again speaking on many different levels of so many things.
Nice tribute Rick, as I’m not sure if many other You Tube channels will do the same. Thank you for that.
RIP Barbara. Thanks for the memories.
She was just beautiful 😍 May she RIP 🙏 🪦
Class and distinction transcended from Barbara into her acting; a wonderful long life!
Still the BEST batman series/movie ever. So sad theres so many passed on now.
So sad she passed. Thanks for the information on her.
Deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms Rush.
Sad news. I know Barbara from the Batman TV show and also the movies 'When Worlds Collide' and 'It Came From Outer Space'. RIP Barbara. 🌹
It came from outer space is a great 50's sci fi movie if you get a chance watch it. Great stuff Rick.
It is the best written and executed 3D film ever made !
She was also a villain on Knight Rider in the episode "Goliath" as Elizabeth Knight. A very talented woman.
I loved Barbara Rush as Nora Clavicle. Years later, I also enjoyed her as "Nola Orsini" on ALL MY CHILDREN.
Aw, bless her heart! Miss Rush appeared in my favorite episode of the "Outer Limits" television series - It was called "The Forms of Things Unknown." This was first broadcast in early May 1964. This episode had a great cast, which included Vera Miles, David McCallum - and in his last theatrical appearance, the great Sir Cedric Harwicke (who passed away just days after the filming).
Good Video/Info.
I first Saw Her In When Worlds Collide, I Thought She Was So Gorgeous
Yes. I remember Barbara Rush. Not really on Batman. But on movies like you said, Rick. Creature from the Black Lagoon. I think she was in that movie. It came from Outer space, Barbara was a good screamer! She had a couple funny lines in that movie too. 97! Wow. Unfortunately, there are not many stars on the Batman series still around. Actor that played Robin, Burt Ward is still around. Maybe some extras in the series still around. I liked the 1960's Batman series. Adam West at his best. Thanks, Rick. Take care. Good informative video.
She was wilton knights wife in knight rider too.
Her character would be elected to Congress, today.
She hid behind the mantra social justice while trying destroy the city and law enforcement, In other words, she was an accurate portrayal of real world villains. How bold.
Even though she did live a long life it's always very sad to see these great stars leave us. A very lovely and talented lady. R.I.P. Barbara.
With the death of Barbara Rush, the cast of 'Batman' (1966) is down to four remaining members: Burt Ward (Robin), Julie Newmar (Catwoman), Joan Collins (The Siren) and John Astin, who played the second Riddler after the departure of Frank Gorshin at the end of the first season. The remaining three villains are all in the 90's now while Burt Ward is close to 80. Lee Meriwether, who played Catwoman in the big screen Batman movie between seasons 1 and 2 is still alive but she never played Catwoman on the TV series.
So Hillary Clinton based her entire life on this character? Wow!
lol
She was in so many classics! RIP Ms. Rush
She played a good bad guy on Knight Rider as well.
The facts are wonderful.
Yes social justice always has a ulterior motive usually sinister...
Barbara Rush was the first celebrity I saw in person. She was doing a play here in Michigan. What a lovely lady, inside and out. Have a wonderful evening. Blessings - Judith 🎤🎭
Julie Newmar is still alive (She's 90 now).
She’s a gem
@@ricknineg She did a good job playing Ms. Devlin aka female Devil in an episode of the Twilight Zone.
She was great in the Paul Newman movie Hombre as a spoiled rich woman.
Rick,
Thanks for this generous and respectful tribute to Barbara Rush.
While this episode is admittedly one of my least favorites (I think the producers were trying to be creative in Season 3), this episode does showcase the class and sophistication of this accomplished actress.
The character "Nora Clavicle" is a spoof of the ultra-feminist Gloria Steinem at the time.
With her passing (and this year's earlier passing of Glynis Johns), there are only 4 villains left in the Batman '66 canon:
- John Astin/Riddler
- Julie Newmar/Catwoman
- Lee Meriwether/Catwoman (movie only)
- Joan Collins/Siren
R.I.P. Barbara Rush
Be hopeful everyone, and Like, Subscribe and Comment. It helps Rick out.
Paul +
"they were trying to be creative" So true! I'm always thinking, oh no! They're being poetic! Or trying, lol
@lazyhomebody1356
(...yeah, that was a euphemism for "they're desperate...")
@@PaulTesta oh! lol
Sad when actors from this classic show pass away. We are lucky to still have the beautiful Julie Newmar with us as well.
Barbara Rush was so beautiful! Sadly you are correct ....we are losing all of the greats from back then! As far as I'm concerned television was a lot better back then.....it's my opinion ....I'm an old broad so what can I say. Lol.
One thing you notice immediately about this episode is the cheesy outdoor sets. The buildings look like they are for a grade-school play.
I do not remember that character, but I remember Barbara Rush. RIP, lovely lady.
Trivia:
Apparently the name “Nora Clavicle” was supposed to be a play on Gloria *_Steinem_* (which almost sounds like Sternum).
I knew people who worked with her in live theater productions. Everyone had only good things to say about her. (Surprising that she was married that many times).
The only actor who began their career in the 1940's who is still alive is Ann Bylth, who was in 'Mildred Pierce." Retired & lives in NY.
So sorry for your loss. May she RIP❤
I remember she was in "Can't Stop the Music" with The Village People. She enters a room and Valerie Perrine's character says "She looks better than I do."
Maybe you could do a series of videos that Barbara Rush was in. They are classic and good movies too. Just a thought. To honor Barbara Rush too.
Been so long I really don't remember that character but I do remember her from a couple episodes of Magnum PI.
I was under the impression that only Burt Ward, Julie Newmar, and Joan Collins were still alive.
Nora reminds me of my mother, devious, scheming and self important.
Sad
I thought that Ms Rush was a very beautiful and elegant woman. Ms Rush was great in the "Night Gallery" story "Cool Air".
My deepest condolences for the loss of a beloved figure and family member. She was one heck of a villain though.
Barbara Rush had a great performance in the Paul Newman western, Hombre. She played the Indian Commissioner's wife who was in cahoots with badman Richard Boone to steal the money her husband was also trying to steal from the Apache's.
She lived to be 97. I call that a life well lived. Most people won't ever see that age.
R.I.P., Barbara.
Now... pay the rent, car, phone, tv, nails, hair, extras.... better work some more 'Grownup' Lady!! 😂 Mom's laugh Priceless❣️
This was the only episode of the series I dreaded!! ha ha ha
Hey Rick. This is a nice tribute to Barbara Rush. She was definitely a great lady and great actress. However, I just have to mention that I consider "Nora Clavicle and the Ladies Crime Club" to be one of the worst episodes of the "Batman" television show.
The fault wasn't Barbara's who did the best job with what she had to work with. The blame rests squarely with the writers and their depiction of women in this episode - particularly in law enforcement.
To accomplish her nefarious scheme, Nora has herself appointed police commissioner and replaces the entire force with women. While crime runs rampant in Gotham City, we're treated to several minutes of female officers putting on lipstick, exchanging recipes, talking about clothing sales - totally oblivious to what is occurring around them.
As if it couldn't get worse, Nora unleashes mechanical mice bombs, which the female officers react to in typical cliche fashion by jumping on chairs, etc. It takes Batman, Robin, and Batgirl, playing flutes which attract the mice via a special musical frequency to lure them to the river where they explode harmlessly.
As someone who's worked with a number of female officers over the years, it just comes off a very insulting. Yes, I know, people are going to say that this was typical of the times, and "Batman" was a satire. But when you see women who are supposed to be sworn to uphold the law acting like irresponsible bimbos, you just know that this one crossed the line.
As a girl who had pet mice, yes! When I see a female scream over a mouse....
97 yrs! Quite a long life🥴
I've been trying to figure out where I know her from. Batman isn't it,lol
She would have fit in really well in the current political arena in Washington. And that's the deepest I'll ever get into political commentary on this channel!
She was in When Worlds Collide.
Burt Ward and Julie Newmar are the only ones left I believe.
With her death, that just leaves four guest villains still living: Julie Newmar and Lee Meriweather (who both played Catwoman), John Astin (Riddler), and Joan Collins (Siren). Ms Meriweather also played a "damsel in distress" in the second season: Lisa Carson, whom King Tut kidnaps with the intent to marry her.
Good list! Don’t forget Burt Ward (not a villain) but played Robin. Very very few left
She was always a glamor gal. I think she was, more or less, the Harvey Dent of the show........just the female version.
So sad another wonderful actor from the REAL classy age of Hollywood is gone. So sad.
Rick Nineg are you aware of the unreleased earlier version of Batgirls debut on Batman? Yvonne Craigs original appearance on Batman has never aired! Her Batgirl costume is a little different and her mask is more pointed around her eyes. She originally meets Batman and Robin in a library. Batman seems to be smitten by her and keeps asking her who she really is? This would be removed from her actual debut on season 3 of Batman along with other slight changes to her costume. The Batgirl series as you know was never picked up as a series on ABC. Makes me think of the more recent Batgirl movie being cancelled hmm.... 🦇🌆📺🏍
The mask was changed because the points were stabbing Yvonne's cheeks and leaving marks.
The mask was changed because the points were stabbing Yvonne's cheeks and leaving marks.
Interesting
😢 💙
97 yrs old isn’t sudden or sad. Most people could only hope to live such a long full life.
Strange to think that people at funerals DO get sad and cry even when the person is old. It’s ridiculous to think that sorrow goes away just because someone is elderly
