I was ten years old and the only thing I was doing during episodes featuring Catwoman was waiting for the next scene with Julie Newmar in it.
she was every 10 year old's dream
At 10, I preferred Angela Cartwright.
@@chuckmaddison2924:
Oh, yes, Angela´s eyes. 😊
Early bloomer?
Remember when Alfred the Butler dressed as Batman and his mustache showed easily, it reminds me of that.
“You know the tiger very well and he’s not going to harm you…”
Siegfried and Roy left the chat.
Haha
😅 😄
Yep, Tigers are notoriously untrustworthy animals.
Roy had a stroke, fell, and the tiger picked him up to help him. Everyone knows that now
The tiger: "Here, hold my beer!"
Considering how campy the show was it doesn't surprise me that they'd let the trainer keep his mustache. After all Ceaser Romero kept his.
That’s only cause Cesar flat out refused to shave it basically say it was the reason for his career and with my thousands of rewatches of the series over the years I only noticed it in close up shots that’s how well they hid it
@@kevin10001 They should have done the same with the trainer's moustache.
@@4thdoctor284 but like Cesar’s it’s not noticeable cause I never noticed it
@@kevin10001 Well the video maker did ask for suggestions in the comments how they would handle it so I told him
@@kevin10001 you mean you never noticed how odd his mouth looked?!? When I was like 10 or 11 I was asking my parents what was wrong with his mouth. They told me it was makeup on his mustache. They didn't tell me why. I only found out when they did that reunion movie a few years ago.
When Batman first aired in 1966, many homes didn’t even have color televisions, and definitely not cable or HDTV. Seeing Batman on a fuzzy black and white TV was a different experience.
Never noticed it all these years but thought stunt guy was thinner than West. Love all the Julie Newmar episodes she was such an attractive women perfect for the part. The Riddler was my next favorite. Frank Gorshwin had such a great laugh and also excellent impressionist
Agreed. Much as I love John Astin as Gomez Addams, I think Frank Gorshwin was the superior Riddler.
@@rodh1404 yes Aston was perfect as Gomez but not the Riddler.
You have to think about how TV was made in the 1960's. It was made for standard definition TV's that were receiving grainy over the air transmission instead of high-definition digital video. I guarantee that practically no one saw the mustache in the quick cuts they were using for the fight sequence in the days before pausing the picture was available. The producers never envisioned us being able to scrutinize an episode frame-by-frame like we can today. In their estimation, the show would run once for its original broadcast and once in reruns and if it was lucky, a few times in syndication. Regardless, I can't see anyone being shocked that they would use a double in this scene.
This videos main focus was the tigers paw and the dudes hand haha
60s was long before 'standard definition' was heard of, back then had way more temporal resolution i.e. the scan lines on the screen dissappeared because there's so much wide band real time information that you didn't notice the lines
Also, VCRs were not available and most people at the time had black & white TVs. Most campy shows of the 60s could not hold up to any visual scrutiny. It's fun to highlight them though so thanks for the effort!
The color wasn't important in the 60s when TVs were mono, in fact when color first came out in UK many people used to have de saturated picture because too much colour distracting. You really could then watch a snooker game in monochrone and know which color was which by the shades of gray. Interestingly, the Batman series in UK even though in monochrome then was very clear movement. By contrast some other American TV shows less 'live action' and more 'spoken dialog' even though they were seen in color they had horrible blurry smudgy movement compared to the picture quality of Batman. I think it was because programs like Batman may had been delivered in film print didn't go through a conversion.
Also, they had little time to film, as production costs were high. These "goofs" are production crews trying their best to stay on schedule. We may have noticed these "errors" at the time, but the action was so fast, maybe we didn't believe our own eyes? Nonetheless, it is cool to catch a glimpse of how these shows were made.
I didn't notice either of these things back in 1966! The action was so fast paced at the time!
The imperfections are long remembered while perfection is soon forgotten. Thanks again for the closer look at times gone by.
“The Joker ain’t shaving his “stache” neither am I!” Lol!
Absolutely! Caesar Romero refused to shave his mustache as it was his very well-known signature! Yes, you can see it, but so what!!! He was a perfect Joker and I just saw him last night and Penguin made an appearance near the end!!!
All I noticed was Julie Numar. Even as a little kid, I knew she was hot.
I was ten years old when I watched this episode and I have to admit that my attention was completely and totally caught up with Cat Woman. They could have put a guy in a tiger suit and I wouldn't have cared!!
Finally a real person talking Narrating the video.
Great find Rick... Back then we only had TV to see the episode and no way of slowing it down.. As far as the trainer doing the scene, I think it may have been dangerous for him wearing a scary black mask and cape. The tiger could have reacted in a more aggressive or confused manner and harmed him.. Another mustache trivia... Ceasar Romero (The Joker) refused to shave his off in all his appearances and they just ended up plastering it with the face color to try and mask it...
Caesar Romero wouldn't shave have his moustache either This episode began my❤ for Julie Newmar's Catwoman
We were young, full of pop, chips and cold cuts to notice 😂.
I wish I knew what all that stuff was 😂 🇬🇧 I know what 🍟 chips are obviously but the other 2 🤷♂️??
Those men really loved their mustaches back then. Great catch.
I love my mustache even today. ;)
I have one... Women like 'em too!
I never noticed it before. Thanks Rick.
You gotta “hand” it to Thing, he managed to find work after the Addams Family! ✋
Seriously though, great video and although it was pretty obvious it was the animal trainer in the tiger scene, his appearance, mustache and all, just adds to the campiness that was the show! I wouldn’t have it any other way. 😜
It totally added to the campiness
Even as a kiddo I knew The Stooges didn't really hit each other with hammers and Adam wasn't going to be playing with tigers. I did think Batman would pull some tiger spray from his belt.
He had everything in his belt!
A least some of the hand would have been cropped on by the television sets from that era. Cesar Romero (Joker) refused to shave off his mustache as well. Even on the TV sets from the 60s you could see his mustache under the makeup.
I mean, keeping the mustache worked for Cesar Remarro's joker😂
There’s a “making of Star Trek” book from years ago that explains this. These shows were shot for small Low resolution TV screens (often black-and-white in those days), and expected to be viewed once or twice before disappearing. No one expected we’d be able to own these episodes, project them on large high resolution television screens, and scrub through them examining every detail.
good comment one thought of vcrs, dvds hi-def TVs streaming back in the 60s
I remember this episode and I never noticed it I just love watching batman when I was a little kid I never missed a show thank you for bringing back win I was a little boy really great great job
Moustache and Hand add to nostalgic charm of the production... I watched as a kid (Apr. '62 D.O.B.) It was a great action/drama show for kids, high camp comedy for adults
In 1966 our TV was so bad we would not have been able to catch any of those details. Less than 10% of the public had color tvs.
And most screens had rounded corners, you'd never see that at all...
Always funny he puts the ear plugs on the outside of the cowl and not in his ears. Holy Ear Plugs
There are two good reasons for that; 1) we viewers could not have seen the Bat Ear Plugs if Batman had inserted them under his cowl, 2) the cowl fit Adam West's head so tightly, there was no room for Batman to have inserted anything under them.
As the owner of two cats, my next question would be how the tiger's claws didn't just grip right onto that cape easily?! Haha!
You’re so right!
I never noticed those tells. Dimly lit scenes, quick cuts and no one got hurt, successful shoot. Julie Newmar the best Cat Woman ever!
Huge Batman fan of the 60’s show and never noticed it before would like to rewatch the episode to look for this Thanks Rick much appreciated
It’s always great to see things like this pointed out, especially since Cesar Romero kept his mustache, so hearing this isn’t too surprising, though it’s cool they had the trainer dressed as Batman. Keep up the great work Rick, have a great day!
Grey mustache? STOUT FELLOW, Alfred!
Yikes! lol! You see the hand! How hilarious 😂 Of course, I’ll have to watch this episode tonight to spot the mustache and the hand. Love videos like this, Rick!❤ Thank you 😊
The TV Guide critic (Cleveland Amory) mentioned this when this episode originally aired. His commentary was in one of the NY city papers as I recall.
I was 8yo when Batman premiered. Until then my only hero was Superman and his Show was on in the late afternoon. I never noticed any bloopers. I was always usurped with the situation and how Batman would get out of it. Mind you, the episodes were only once a week. I'd be wrapped up in the cliff hanger. Although I knew so much of it was fake, like the fights, I was thrilled to have Batman as my hero and to get out of his predicament, catch the villains and go on to the next week.
I also noticed that "Batman's" belt was a couple of inches higher than the Adam West "Batman's" belt. That was a popular style for older men in those days. Even the position of the 1940's and 1950's Humphrey Bogart's belt is comical by today's standard's. BTW, the use of the trainer reminded me of Lon Chaney's character getting attacked by a "wolf" in "The Wolf Man." The "wolf" was, in real life, Lon Chaney's German shephard, and Lon Chaney was playing with him.
I like how each Arch Criminal has their own theme music
Yes, and I was glad that the 1990s Animated Series also had that.
"They fooled me, Jerry!" - Kramer / Seinfeld
I love these little tidbits! Never noticed the hand, great catch Rick!
I definitely didn't notice these as a kid! Definitely funny to see now! As for the mustache, they could've just put makeup on him to blend it in. The tiger claw was epic. Leave that as is! 🤣
At the very least, some flesh-colored face paint could've been applied to the trainer's 'stache, but perhaps it might've confused the tiger? Animals see in pictures, which leads me to believe the trainer may have practiced his scenes wearing a Batman costume. You know those videos where a toddler's dad shaves off his beard? The kid cries! Am thinking I wouldn't wanna do the same to a tiger, maybe.
I have seen many of those things. I always liked pointing them out to family members when we were watching the old “B” movies with giant spiders and such. Some were held up by 2X4’s from caves. Hilarious.
Thanks Rick for this video, those were two great catches you made.
That's almost as good as the hand under the table pushing Ritchie Aprile over in his chair when Janice shoots him on The Sopranos. There was a bottle of wine on the table that I assume was supposed to hide the hand but it was a little out of position. I love watching bloopers.
Great catches! Reminds me of whe I saw the white arrow in the FedEx logo. Once seen, you can never unsee it.
Very informative and fun video. Your videos are always a treat. Keep up the great work
Hey Brian! That is much appreciated!
Drats! I was completely fooled by this ultra-sophisticated show!
This was a great catch. Great job! Way too funny.
I didn't notice the hand but I did notice the paw was lifeless. A cat's paw trying to grab at something would have moving toes and claws.
I remember watching the episode. Cat woman had Robin tied up on a plank and was lowering him into a den of tigers and Robin said”Cat Woman, you are not a nice person.”
I guess he told her!
Also while Batman was avoiding the tiger, Cat Woman says, “ you better be quick, Batman. That tiger has not eaten all day .”
Batman replies “ you should take better care of your pets, Cat Woman. They are your responsibility.”
Even with his life on the line, he wants to send a good moral message.
I have heard and read that Burt Ward/Robin actually was suspended over a den of tigers for that scene. Ward does claim that because his mask exposed most of his face, he had to perform almost all his own stunts, unlike Adam West/Batman who had a stunt double for the fights.
I don't believe half of Burt Ward's stories!
Very cool Batman trivia. Thanks!
These 1960’s shows were broadcast obviously way before video. They would never in a million years have thought that someday the great Rick Nineg would be able to slow that scene down and catch the flaw. Nice work Rick.
Hilarious! Thank you!!
Brilliant thank you 😊
You're amazing to pick these things up. I guess now with HDTV you can pick up a lot of these things. Love all your work. Rick, have you thought of doing the story of the old Columbia Ranch site now demolished? Where they filmed outside shots of BeWitched, I dream of jeannie and Hazel? Thanks.
Thanks so much for the amazing support!
I’ve made a few videos on them. You can search and they will pop right up :)
I saw "Batman", at age 19, from its beginning in Jan.1966! If you lived in the NYC area, you'll remember that it
started during the famous NYC subway "transit strike", so commuting home to see it was very difficult! When
I first saw the series, I was disappointed that it was done in a "campy", rather than serious style, as was "Superman"!
In awhile, one grew used to it & with so many famous persons, as villains, it helped to keep the show interesting!
I ask you all, is there anyone as baffled as I am that there was a single can of Tiger Repellent Bat Spray anywhere in or on that Utility Belt!? Lol!!
Margaret White: Witch. Got Satan's Power.
Carrie: It has nothing to do with Satan, Mama. It's me. Me. If I concentrate hard enough, I can move things.😊
Yes, the trainer should've shaved his mustache.
They couldn't have forced him to shave his mustache anyway. He had the upper hand. They needed him. He didn't need them.
Haha! I remember watching Batman on a small round black and white tv. I never would have noticed something like that, nor at 11 years old would I have thought there was such trickery.
Great observations!
I was very little when I watched Batman.
But I did notice stuntmen for characters on Gunsmoke, Bonanza etc. 😂 Thanks Rick.
I never noticed that before I will have to rewatch my blue ray version. How cool. Great catch!
i have the complete series on dvd
I started college in Sep. 1965 and the Batman show was very popular in my dorm! Twice a week the TV room filled up as we watched and shouted out all the POW! Etc. Lately I’ve been catching the programs on a late-night TV channel. The stories were hokey by today’s standards but fun all the same!
Looks like Alfred in the batsuit😂
Really good catch on the Tiger's hand. This life long 66 Batman fan (I was born in 66) didn't know this one. Thanks for pointing it out.
I miss the days when Batman villains just stole stuff and weren't homicidal manics.
Never noticed either one of these! Great video!
Same with Neil Armstrong's moon video. If you look closely at the glass in the helmet you can see the stuntman's moustache sometimes.
Zapruder film too, Jackie has some lip fuzz going as she climbs over, you can tell its not her. Never happen
I doubt one single person watching the show in the 60's saw a hand. Or a mustache.
We didn't have any way to record shows and play them back in the 60's, we certainly didn't have any frame by frame capability to analyze shows.
Those were great times to be a kid.
Reminds me of that scene in "The Sopranos" when Janice shot Richie, you could see someone's hand pushing the chair back Rickie was sitting on!
I was a kid when I watched Batman. Trust me, I never noticed that. I just enjoyed watching it
Good catch
Television sets in the 1960s didn't display as much picture information as they do now. Many screens were actually rounded at the corners. That claw showing would have been of little or no concern at all.
I would not notice the gaffes even watching today these less than fine tuned special effects of the show. Well spotted Rick as always for a good chuckle; happy no actors or tigers were injured.
Actually..... the tiger bit into a cable on the set and was electrocuted according to imdb.
In the 60s I see this and remember my uncle says it's someone dressed as Batman, next time saw that episode did see something look different , but hey as a kid it was don't care that much cos what was important as is was Batman fought a tiger and won
my brother of 12 spotted batbelt was way up high on stomach... i never liked watching with loud mouth brother ... i was 6 ...
2:04 In 1975, on the TV show Emergency, Adam West makes a guest star appearance as an actor trapped in the movie studio with an angry tiger that hates him.
Awesome!!
Reminds me of the episode when Batman and Bruce Wayne had to be in the same place, and Alfred drives up in the Batmobile in the cowl and any fool should have known it wasn't Batman., also with a mustache...
Thanks for another fun video, Rick!
My favorite is when you review and analyze the Batman '66 series.
My first reaction is that it was Alfred Pennyworth, the Butler (played by the remarkable Alan Napier).
The hand on the claw is a hoot! Never saw that before. Thanks Rick!
Speaking of people on BATMAN refusing to shave off their moustaches, Cesar Romero refused to shave off his when he played The Joker, so it was just covered in white paint to match the rest of the makeup on his face.
Wow! I never noticed this.
I do remember the episode and most the time when they used a double for Adam West, it was noticeable. But to be honest with you I probably didn't see this because I was waiting for Julie Newmar's next scene.
I was a kid and loved Batman so much. I didn't notice at all.
What I noticed was that Catwoman never CLEANED herself nor SHED her fur! 😺🤣😂
I remember watching this show as a child. I liked it when Vincent Price played Egghead.
I always love you 1960's Batman video.
Maybe the mustache is how the tiger recognized the trainer in the batsuit.
I'm sure he was talking to the tiger as well, they edited that out.
@@Jeff98177 Yeah, probably so.
I thought wearing the batsuit was like sitting on a throne or wearing a crown in Britain where only the king can do it or youll be beheaded,
WOW! I never noticed this before!
As a kid I had the Viewmaster of this episode. Seeing some of your stills reminded me. Pretty cool!
Also the body shape/outline of the trainer in those tight leotard costume has bigger thighs and more muscular arms.
Isn’t that ironic haha?
What this comment section needs is more people in the comments saying Caesar Romero kept his mustache.
😅
I'd like to see a special just on the bat cave, behind the scenes and set shots, etc.
It's a good thing that the Tiger was not a fan of Lost in Space
and carrying a grudge against Batman for getting his favorite show cancelled.
On an average sized TV at that time, 17" or so, with no capability to record the show and freeze frame it, they knew no one was going to catch those kinds of details. They weren't even particularly concerned about mic boom shadow in those days because you just couldn't see it.
First Cesar Romero wouldn’t shave his mustache, now the trainer.
Double trouble
