      That's the point, that they missed the fact that nudity was implied. Like he said, men and women couldn't be in the same bed because of what it implied, women wore men's pajamas because of what women's nightware implied, and although he didn't say, on ILL, they never said the word "pregnant" because of what it implied.

      You're 100% correct, of course, but there's no video to be made or profit from ads to be earned by not making a video that actually reveals someone's own inner foibles. More was covered by that blanket than by some of the gowns she wore, so not even mid-60s censors would have had a problem with it.

    • @saintsone7877
      @saintsone7877 Před 3 měsíci +6

      The blanket allowed less to be shown than would be seen had she wore a swimsuit(even a one piece). She also had a bra on(as well as panties) so there was no nudity but merely a suggestion which at the time was not policed as it had been in the past.
      Lots of shows were made at that time where more or less as much was shown as was shown in the photos.

      I don't think you get it. Even a hint of sleeping in the nude especially for a woman, would have been sensored in that time. If the sensors had caught it, Ginger would have been wearing something else. That's how crazy the sensors were, this is a time belly buttons couldn't be shown on tv. In their eyes, there was something to catch. Rick's not nuts, the sensors were.

    • @Voodoomaria
      @Voodoomaria Před 2 měsíci +1

      As the video maker said, the censors did NOT allow married couples to share a bed because it IMPLIED sex.
      Inferences, Not fact was what they were weeding out.
      Ginger, bare shouldered and wrapped in a blanket IMPLIED Ginger was sleeping in the nude [something for Ginger that would NOT be outside of her character].
      The fact that the appearance of Ginger in this fashion SUGGESTED that she MIGHT be nude was enough to trigger the censors, Just as a shared bed SUGGESTED that a married couple MIGHT at one point have sex, was enough for the censors to ban shared beds.
      These things are NOTHING to audiences today, Just look at "Game of BOOBS" to see how far things have come, but in the 60's Wilma Flintstone and Lucy Ricardo may have BEEN pregnant, but they couldn't SAY "Pregnant" on the air, and they most certainly couldn't share a bed suggesting HOW they got P[CENSORED]t.

      There were some clear differences in the 70s such as sometimes they did show nudity. Several times such as in Roots, fully topless women were shown. Most women obviously did not wear bras in the 70s which wouldn't fly thru most of the 60s. The bikinis, etc. were much smaller, in the 60s no bellybuttons could be exposed.

    I got that impression many years ago. What's amazing is how they weren't all sleeping in the nude at some point. What with no AC or fans, in a tropical environment with high heat and humidity, and all that sweating, with no stores to buy new clothes, or needle and thread. Clothes don't last 15 years under such conditions. I know the Howells had a trunk full of clothes, but surely it wasn't an unlimited supply. I noticed when they were rescued 15 years later they were wearing the same clothes they started out with. They looked as if they were brand new. I guess it's one of the things the professor could accomplish with his knowledge, never mind he couldn't patch a hole on a boat.

That was their biggest concern with her. Plus at the beginning of the series she only had one dress. Why would she sleep in it? Maybe she has a slip under it. Plus how much control would she have with her wardrobe? Costuming would have told her to where a blanket in this scene. She probably wore it the sexyest way she could. One thing I noticed about a Star Trek episode from the third Season. The episode is one of the best, and it is 3x23, All Our Yesterdays. It aired March 19, 1969. In the episode, Spock and McCoy travel back in time 5,000 years to an ice age where they encounter a very lovely woman, Zarabeth. She is trapped alone in that ice age with no hope of returning to her native time and place. There are a few scenes showing embrace that indicate an attraction between Spock and Zarabeth. Then, Spock and McCoy manage to return to their present day. McCoy asked, what of Zarabeth? And Spock replies, "Yes, it did happen; but that was 5,000 years ago and she is dead now. Dead and buried." The argument could be made that in order for Zarabeth to have been buried, she must have had a child to perform the burial. Spock's child.

    I never took that into consideration, and I started watching the show in 1970.
    Ginger, I observed, followed the latest Hollywood trends. I thought she was based on Marilyn Monroe.
    I know that at that time, Marilyn slept in the raw. Being a good actress, Miss Louise did her research. Heck, maybe Tina, in real life, slept in the raw.
    I think the censors had a problem with the suggestion of intercourse. Wrapping yourself in a blanket doesn't have the connotation of sex when your roommate is another girl.
    Another episode I recall-I can't remember the number-was in color; it dealt with headhunters on the island, and Gilligan was searching to warn the "girls." A quick cut shows Ginger and Mary Anne in a mud bog. Ginger mentions to Mary Anne how much this treatment would cost in Hollywood.
    Gilligan just sees the girl's heads on top of the mud. He immediately turns, so he is facing the camera with his eyes closed tight. He exclaims, "Oh no, the head hunters got the girls."
    The girls in unison say, "High Gilligan."
    Gilligan exclaims "HUH!" and immediately turns around.
    Gilligan warns the girls about the headhunters. The girls immediately requested that Gilligan extract them from the bog.
    The first one Gilligan extracts is Mary Anne. As he pulls her from the mud, she clamps her right arm over her boobs. In the scene, the jump cuts to another location.
    Why would she do that if she had some coverage?

    Nothing in this video is true. At the time of broadcast, there wasn't any rule against showing anything that a woman wrapped in a blanket in this manner shows. There was no rule against depicting an implication that a woman was sleeping nude, as long as the nudity didn't actually show up on camera. Furthermore, Ginger might NOT have been nude nor even topless. She could have been wearing a knickers and either a bra that had no straps or a nightgown that had no straps. The conjectures in this video are ridiculous, as is the error comparing this to "1960" standards when this series debuted much later. Remember, the opening sequence of Petticoat Junction right from its first season (a year earlier than Gilligan's Island's first season) had an implication that three women were swimming nude in a big wooden cistern. (It might have served the hotel or it might have been water to replenish that needed by a steam-locomotive.) You could IMPLY until the cows came home. I mean, don't we think that most characters in most TV-shows take a shower or bath every so often? Doesn't THAT imply nudity? As long as you didn't SHOW the forbidden regions of the nude body in question, you could IMPLY your heart out. This video is a joke.
