- At 70, Ron Howard FINALLY Admits How Much He Truly Hated Him
Although shows are on air for a few years and movies are one-time things, some are truly timeless in America's hearts. Fans come to know and love characters who end up feeling like real friends as we become accustomed to their personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. Like every other high profile show, what unseen drama and hidden rivalries lurk when the curtains are dropped and the cameras turned off? Does Ron's mysterious disdain for Opie reveal deeper secrets lurking beneath the surface?
Join us as well delve into the reasons why Ron Howard Truly Hated Him.
I didn't read anything about anyone hating anybody...
I’m 77 & I remember when the show first started, I still watch this loved show!
I loved Don Knotts. Seeing The Ghost And Mr Chicken on the big screen when I was six years old was an amazing experience.
I LOVE The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Such a wonderful film and Don is perfect in it.
I love that movie 🎬
The BEST! Such a great movie!
All of Don's movies were good. However, The Ghost and Mr Chicken was his best. The Incredible Mr Limpet was also very good.
As a child actor, Ron Howard never sounded like a dumb little kid reciting lines. Can we take a moment to appreciate how verbally talented he was compared to other child actors? He articulated his lines so perfectly and seemed very intelligent by the way he spoke. That verbal talent has served him well throughout his long career in the biz!
Grew up watching this and at 54 I am still watching it every day! I have the Andy Griffith trivia game… and can beat anyone! I know every single episode and each character. It is my all time favorite show! It’s when TV was worth watching and always had a great message and loads of laughter along the way… mixed in with a few tears at times. It was the one show our whole family loved and enjoyed together. I now have 2 grown children and they also grew up with this show… it’s truly a timeless classic. Thanks for all the laughs through the years! And being a native of NC (Charlotte) made it all the more special… All those sayings and the southern talk made it more than just a show and characters…. They seemed more like extended family! 📺🍿📽🎬🏡 🎣 🐟🔫⚖️🚔🚓👨✈️👨✈️🪕🎶💙
Im 76 and could have gone to meet my maker without knowing Andy was hated by Oppie. Loved that show and still watch it.
Ron Howard.... One of the finest, most real, of all the child actors.... He added much to the series!!! Opie and Barney are my fav, but all in it are great!
I remember Andy, Opie, aunt bee, Barney fife & all the gang. I was just a little kiddo, but I remember all their shows. Thank you for such great memories!!! I still watch then any chance I can.
Everyone in Mayberry seemed very happy!
Everyone in Mayberry was single.
Except for one character...Otis the town drunk
Ron said in an interview that Andy was much like his own father.
This was when family was held in high regards. I miss these days.
Good Day. I'm 72. The "Sitcom Days" on TV were wonderful. This was one of the great ones. I can still hear the opening whistling tune.
Thank You and Best Regards.
That's sad to hear that he wasn't happy about being a child actor, being that he was so great at it. We still love the two most memorable characters he played, Opie and Richie. And as for all the other hats he wore, we will never forget Ron Howard!!!❤❤❤
simply the best family television show ever! 🌈
whenever I watch my favorite episode
"Opie the Birdman", it never
fails to warm my heart! ❤ ❤ ❤
Loved this show then and still love it today, I also loved "Happy Days"👍♥️🙏✝️✌️😎
I've watched this show since it began. Our cable carries 3 hours of old episodes every day . This show brings a strange comfort to me. Each character is played so well they became real to viewers. I loved the show all those years ago, and I still do. Rest in peace to all those neighbors and friends I made so long ago,..❤ Thank You ...😊
My father was lucky to meet Andy and Danny at a NYC restaurant in 1965. He autographed the menu and said thanks. The thanks meaning how much I enjoyed the show.
Thank you ! "A Face In The Crowd" is one of the greatest American movies, ever.
I loved Matlock episode with Andy Griffith and Randy Travis singing together. ❤
Every time I have read about Andy and Ron , Howard says ‘he was all business.’ Don did not quit, his contract was up and he signed a 3 picture movie deal. He stated he was flabbergasted when Andy called him back for another year! He had always told Don that they were working for 5 years only.
I grew up in Hummelstown PA. back in 1963 - 67. It was my Mayberry with a crik and soda pop machine as well as many other things.
A face in the crowd is worth a watch. It is one of my favorite older movies.
OLD MAN HERE LOVED IT
Don Knotts and Jim Nabors were my two favorite characters. ❤ 😂 😅 😊
I remember watching this show when I was little . It was a show that we could all watch as a family !! The shows today are so very different from back then . U hv to kw what the shows are rated today before u sit down to enjoy it w/ your family !!
My very first car was a 1964 ford galaxy 500. I traded a tv and a cb radio for it and I thought it was the greatest car ever. 😊
What great memories still of a great sitcom & Ron Howard!!
Fan from Massachusetts
Ron Howard lived in my building. He is a kind and gentle man. Everyone loved him.
As a kid in the '60's, I always loved Andy Griffith. My parents even had an album of him telling G-rated jokes!
I still watch The Andy Griffith show today! Every evening I never miss it! It's still one of my favorites! If Ron Howard despise Andy "You could've fooled me" lol
Thank you Andy Griffith for all the fun.
They treated Child actors like dogs .. look what they did to Judy Garland .. up until 90s kid actors where treated badly .. that’s why they “snapped”
Aunt Bee seemed like the type you wouldn't want as a neighbor, glad she made amends before she passed. I think the fact she never married or had kids may have been a big part why she was so uptight.
Remember this a TV show/ make believe, it's known as acting. Not everyone that works together, gets along. Period
My mom used to cut men's hair in the 60's through the 80's. She told me that where she worked,
Andy Griffith went there to get his hair cut. She told me there was a young black boy there who shined the clients shoes. My mom told me that Andy Griffith was very rude, and very mean to the little boy. My mom said, she was very disappointed on seeing that and never liked him again after that.
When I need to relax or deviate from the hate and down times, I watch my boxed set and just relaxes me. Love this TV series: no violence but southern humor and a moral to boot. I have my favorites of course and some I don't like but still my all time favorite TV.
Ronnie should be grateful for the opportunity he had with Andy Griffith. Without it, he would be where he is now.
Thank you for all the hard work. I am 59 and love this show.
As kids, we did not like Opie because we could not live up to the expectations he put out which made our parents not like us as much as opie
Thanks for the memories.
Mayberry was actually based on Mt. Airy NC. VERY spot on
I REALLY ENJOYED THAT SHOW OPIE WAS A CUTE LITTLE BOY BRINGING BACK MEMORIES
Great show growing up with back then and still love it
Andy Griffith Show/Mayberry RFD was actually a spin off from Danny Thomas Show... Danny got a traffic ticket from Andy...
A great show and actors in a much simpler time in life!
Andy was a giant actor, Face in the Crowd was a master work! Knotts was a war hero. These are the best of people.
Ðon Knotts and Jim Nabors were my favorite characters on the show. ❤ 😂 😅 😊
Have enjoyed this production of Andy Griffith and The Andy Griffith Show. Was a favorite in our house. And yes , I lived in North Carolina... Born and raised there.. Lived that show.Tha m you for this look back
..
Ron Howard is the spitting image of his old man.
Our family still watchs ! 😊
I grew up watching this show…what a shame there was hidden conflict for all those years
Wow! That was a ton of information. Thank you for your hard work and research putting this together.
Andy is a legend I won't think the same of Howard
Great show. I probably saw every episode, many, numerous times.
"Aunt Bea" Bavier always ticked me off. She's one of these people who went from zero to famous because of one single role, then all they do is scream and protest that the role was somehow holding them back or making their lives difficult. I feel like people should shut up and be grateful for what that show or role has done for them, instead of getting a swelled head.
Ron and my oldest brother David were born the exact same day, 3/1/54.
And without Opie, Ron Howard would still be a Nobody.
Love the show still watch it when it comes on reruns and I loved every single cast and character, as well as the actors and actresses who were the actual singers of the Darling family. One of my favorite songs that they do on the show is There is a Time which I do have downloaded to my phone.
That kid was amazing at memorizing his lines!
This was too sad to read about
I cant believe it. This was one of my favorites too. Im approaching 73 in Aug
If he wasn't a goofball he wouldn't be Barney Fife! ❤😂😅😊
Loved watching Gomer Pyle ❤❤!!! I lived in Hawaii in the 70's and 80's, and would see Jim Nabors looking out at his beach house at the ocean!!!
Interesting video. Loved the show. Still do.
Andy Griffith was a lovable public persona and a very good actor. My favorite movie of his is "A Face In The Crowd", with co-star Patricia Neal. Anybody who likes him should try to see the film. I also remember that he did a record that was awfully funny. It came out in 1953, about a football game. I found it very clever as a kid.
I loved the black and white episodes with Barney on it. The ones in color without Barney just sucked
It is called ACTING, and Ron’s acting fooled the audience. Now, the characters that the actors portrayed will always love each other.
Loved this show and the characters. I especially loved Opie.
Andy and Don had a great relationship 💯 Andy was at Don's death bed 💯😭😭👍🏽👍🏽
One of the greatest tv shows ever.
Thanks Ron Howard, idk what i would have done without growing up watching the Andy Griffith show, and now Bryce Dallas Howard as an adult lol.
I knew Aunt Bea and Andy didn’t get along but I didn’t have any idea about Opie and Andy.
It was sad Andy was so greedy he wouldn't share with Don Knott's
Don Knott's made that show.....
When I was in the Navy, I drove from Virginia Beach to my home in North Atlanta. I drove all around North Carolina, and never saw any town like the one in the series. Remember the town in the series had dirt streets. I never saw a town in North Carolina like Mt. Airy.
I heard it said that, the main reason why they could portray such a happy town of Mayberry for all those years... was because the only person who was MARRIED was the town drunk.
My favorite character on the show? Ernest T. Bass! Hands down!
Pretty good record when it comes to good communication Ron. Must have been sometimes difficult to pull it off well enough to be in that game for 8 seasons. 8 seasons while he was watching how to be a director instead.
Although it was a fictional show, the actors were examples of the realities of humanity. For decades the open secret in Hollywood was that Frances Bavier was a lesbian & Jim Nabors was gay. During 1960s America the show never could have had Queer Aunt Bee & Gay Gomer. Nowadays, maybe Mayberry would be different.
Love this show. My favorite characters were Barney,Opie,Goober, Ernest T Bass & the Darlings. Ernest T was a hot mess. I still watch this show.
I grew up on syndicated television. The two personalities if you can learn to jockey between them that will get you the furthest in life are Andy Taylor and Captain Kirk. Be a balance of these two and you can handle anything.
Love the aerial shot of St Andrews University in my hometown, fished and rode bike on the many sidewalks there as a kid, later as a student there, always has a soft spot for St Andrews
I've never seen the Andy Griffith Show, I first saw him on TV in the 1980s playing Matlock.
One of my all time fav shows!
The show was worth watching for for Don Knotts, but I have a real problem with the underlying racism that meant that the show depicted Mayberry as being unrealistically white. It is like my own parents who would complain if they saw anyone not white, anyone gay, or anyone Jewish. They thought life was much "better" when there were "no" gay people, and black people lived in shanty houses outside town.
A lot of people have nostalgia for that unrealistically perfect Mayberry, but it was only fabulous so long as you weren't black, or Asian, or gay, or Jewish, or Moslem. I had fights with my father over that sort of thing until he died in old age. Such a shame.
I almost never watched The Andy Griffith Show. In the 1980s i was absolutely hooked on the famous long running radio show, "A Prairie Home Companion" about "Lake Wobegon", a fictional small town in Minnesota. It was always really funny. If i started watching this TV comedy, i'd certainly get hooked too. Also, in the 70s to 80s, i had a 1967 Ford Galaxy 500. It was a gas hog.
Favorite Andy Griffith episode was "Man in a Hurry.
He can thank Andy for his career.I doubt he would have gone very far if it wasn’t for Andy.
Totally wonderful show he grew up to be such a great man
Yeah it has come out that a lot of people didn’t like Andy. On the surface he exuded a jolly good humor. But behind the scenes he was a prick.
Mr. Howard & I have the same Birthday!- Michael McClary, Professor of Trumpet 🎺, Georgia Perimeter College and GSU 🎉❤❤😅
I'm from NC and I still watch this show often. I grew up watching it with my dad. He passed away in 2016 and everytime I watch it I feel comforted, almost like dad is with me.
I definitely like the show, I would like to see Juanita Barney's other girlfriend that works in the diner they never did show her.
I live in Shelbyville, Indiana. This is my Mayberry.
If Ron Howard hated him, I'm sure I'd have loved him.
Fantastic show! A+++
Great Show. I watched it like clock work when I was a young kid. Life was very simple back then.
I wonder if Ron Howard liked his own father who was living off of Ron’s salary as Opie.
❤❤classic episodes
Ron Howard owes Andy Griffith everything. Had he not been cast in that show as a child his acting career might never have progressed and produced a love for being a producer himself. 💥
Ron Howard talked about how the cast was usually drunk on the set
So sad. And yet....Opie was the start of a brilliant lifelong career Ron.
