The 1966 Batmobile hood opened, speedometer, & actual V8 engine heard!

- Wear your seat belts, obey the speed laws, you can't trust a prison trusty! Note that in this episode is one of the few times (twice) the show that the Futura Batmobile's hood is opened. Notice the Batmobile probably needs a tune up or another quart of oil! At the end you can hear it's the actual car's classic V-8 engine along with the atomic and turbine whine! (and the speedometer was just an insert shot, not actually on the Batmobile)

Looks like he connected the dynomite to the Bat-tery!😆
Yea yea, we all got a charge out of that joke.
Ok, I see Bat. 🦇 what you did . Lol 😂
What's a Tery? >.>
His deed was revolting but at least it wasn't terminal. I guess they charged him with battery and threw him in a cell until he made contact with his attorney. I'm positive the call was free of charge.
Holy CHESSEY!!
The world's greatest detective isn't suspicious when some stranger had the hood of the Batmobile open? Also, I would think that hood is lead lined to protect people from the Atomic power that surges through the turbines. Damn this show still looks like fun television in 2021. It just never gets old.
Much like me ! I loved this show back in 65. I'm much older now, But something keeps drawing me back to each episode. like a magnetic bat magnet !
Now I know where the premise to Speed came from
I was also thinking 'Batman Returns' :D
Two excellent pulls.
I think Robin says “turbines to speed”. I could be wrong
I was expecting Anti-Dynamite Bat Spray.
I love how so many things on the car and at the Bat-Cave are actually labeled.
The music is such a big part of this sequence. Because it's there to set the tone, and the tone isn't the modern generic this-mood-for-any-film stuff, but its so unique that it IS inherently associated with vintage batman - and the neatest thing is you notice it but you don't notice it because it's like the nose on your face... it just belongs there.
very well said!
The Batmobile was detailed and was so clean for this episode. It never looked so mint. LOVE IT
Over fifty years later and they are still making toys of this Batmobile. I found one among some die cast cars in a CVS store.

I found a Hot Weels Batmobile in my local Tesco.Surprising as its only a really small express shop.
I saw a video yesterday of someone that actually had a turbine engine fitted in a batmobile replica. Not real practical in a street car but pretty interesting the range of fuels it could use. The Chrysler turbine cars Jay Leno had one were run on perfume, tequila by the president of Mexico, home heating oil, soybean oil. The only recommendation to not use was leaded gas, though could be used but left deposits.
definitely the most beautiful Batmobile.
Love to know how well that turbine flame works when the Batmobile is in reverse.
So..this I'd where Speed gets its idea ?? Bus must keep at 60
Uses the bat thrust reversers obviously
I always wondered why the bat tires spun out when the Batmobile moved by thrusters.
So what happened? In throwing the Dynamite, he propelled it at over 60mph and caused it to blow? Damn Batman, you scary.
He also threw it so far that it landed in earshot of the bad people.
Killing all the wildlife near there, shame on you Batman!
He didn't even look ...there coukd have been a boy scout troop hiking in the woods where he threw it lol

What you don't know is that Chuck Norris was hiding in the bushes and the dynamite committed suicide before he could catch it as not to face his wrath! Because everyone knows batman can chuck dynamite but no one and I mean no one chucks Norris!

Love it when cars ‘peel out’ on dirt roads.
Why didn't the bomb detector in the Batmobile go off like it did when Lydia Limpet planted one in THE BOOKWORM TURNS episode?
Excellent question! Why indeed.
Back in the days when growing up, we made sure we got our homework done just in the nick of time to see Batman and Robin escape the latest deathtraps any supervillain would catch them in.
When he fishtailed out you can hear it at the end...cool.

Want to hear something funny? Back in the late 60's I watched a movie called Bloody Mama starring Shelley Winters as MaBarker. The next day, I saw this episide
Where did you get your time machine from? Bloody Mama came out in 1970.
@@killer408cid I was only guessing. It's been so long ago.
@@royallison5307 it's okay. It actually makes it more amazing that she played the satire version first...and then somehow got the role as the real woman 4 years later. What are the odds?
@@killer408cid Go figure! Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. With Robert DeNiro in the movie.
I remember seeing that movie (I fell asleep at some point to be honest) at the drive-in. Since its U.S. release is listed on IMDB as March 4 of 1970, I believe I probably saw it on a re-release a year or two... OR three later as a the back-up feature for something else. I remember nothing about it, except it had an opening theme song.

From trying to steal "The Lone Ranger's Horse"; to trying to blow up the BATMOBILE! Boy! That 'mechanic' sure had a 'checkered' career!
The coolest car EVER! 🙂🙂
That is the most beautiful car in the franchise and the way the car was designed as a actual Lincoln that would be pretty cool if cars of today we're built like that the batmobile but I am pretty sure it would not be fuel efficient unless it was electric
Or _nuclear_ !
The Batmobile was actually a nonproduction 62 Ford Futura with an actual glass bubble top. It was never released to the public because Ford did not need another flop like they had with the Edsel in the 50s.
But I agree with you about it being a beautiful car. I would also add the Munster Hearse and Black Beauty to that list.
1996: 60mph is scary fast!
2021: if you're driving 60mph on the freeway, a cop pulls you over and asks you if you're having car trouble.
(Circa) 1966
Batman would never break the speed limit,,,but he sure don't mind reckless driving.
And he could have thrown the dynamite into a nearby orphanage.
Finally, a role the evil Aunt Bee could sink her beehive into.
Not not aunt Bee.......It's Shelly Winters
Hey, Paralex View! You do know, that Ms. Shelley Winters, is the actress that's playing Ma Parker, right?

No, the term for a prisoner who's been granted special privileges and access is a Trusty. A prison Trustee is a member of the institution's guiding body -- an executive or senior member of the non-incarcerated public -- often a philanthropist.

The dynamite didn’t seem to be attached to anything in the engine so how would explode when a certain speed was Achieved?
ozmodial defractance.
It had a flux capacitor.
@@jelly7310 a flux capacitor only works if you want it set off by timing, not by speed.
Was this one where Ma Barker is in the rocket wheel chair, and Robin days Holly Verner Von Buawn
Shelley Winters, playing "Ma" Parker" soon to do "Bloody Mama" 1970 playing "Ma" Barker". ?
Remote hood release. Batmoble was ahead of its time
Funny how they heard the explosion and actually thought it was the Batmobile blowing up!
Why wouldn’t they? Ma Parker was expecting just that!
A better question would be why did the dynamite explode after Batman threw it?
Well, this being TV,Ma Parker and her crew including the Warden, would hear that explosion...just so happen within range. And this being Batman,he'd be smart enough to figure out that mechanic wasn't just checking out the engine...but rigging it...and then telling Batman to speed,so for script/plot purposes Batman realizes what happened, finds the dynamite sticks and throws them blowing them up.
@@Name-ps9fx Isn't it obvious? He quickly fitted a Bat-Dynamite-Accelerator-Capsule to it before he threw it.

That'd fit, as they seemed to have one for parts; the u-shaped steering wheel seen here would soon be replaced with an Edsel's wheel for easier steering
I have heard that Daze with Jordan the lion was friends with Shelley Winters back in the day I think..

I actually sat inside a Batmobile at FanExpoCanada in Toronto in 2016, but that car didn't have the round speedometer as shown at 0:43 - it had the flat-top one as seen at 1:16 in front of the steering wheel.
Yes, on the real '66 Batmobile the speedo was on the dash like an Edsel speeodometer. That close up speedo shot was added by the effects/film team and was never in the car.
Is this where they got the idea for the movie “Speed?”
It does the job 👍
The Batmobile is supposed to be theft proof in the comics and tamper proof, but the tv show altered alot.
Apparently a lot of the stories they wanted to tell were too “dark”f or the show’s theme so they got stuck and kept reusing the Batmobile being stolen or messes with as a story. Which sucks because the West show had moments where it took some real life issues at the time seriously.
The Flash movies paid tribute to the various bat actors. Keaton/Clooney/Affleck and upfront the Bat motorcylces showcase ways to use it.
Poor Robin, he was hungry and now they are heading back to Gotham.
Batman liked to keep him lean for their bat-antics in the privacy of the bat-cave.
Love it.
OH.............to be able to drive such a machine!!! **drool**
That speedometer looks just like the one that was in my Moms 1963 Chevrolet Nova station wagon.
actually that insert shot was a 1953 Buick Roadmaster or Skylark speedometer
Years later a fan of this episode wrote speed.
If mall Parker had taken over the prison when it made better sense to call the authorities Batman.
So, I realize cars are different now. A Honda Accord can beat the Magnum PI Ferrari 308 in a drag race. But there were plenty of 60's and 70's cars that were and still are total beasts. Unsafe, gas hogs, no air conditioning, all that. But fast. A 396 Nova, a Dana Camaro, not a joke even today. And Batman has something better than those. And we are in drama waiting for him to hit 60 mph?
Just remember folks this is a comedy.
Damn, that car was a beauty. 😁
It sold in auction for 4.6 million.
Does anyone even THINK that the Batmobile could be so easily messed with ?! If you remember in the 1st episode, the Riddler tried to start it and when THAT didn’t work, tried to blow it up with a grenade, and THAT didn’t work either !

@@davidparker8221 One terrible effect of the Batman craze was that it led the producers of Lost in Space -- which was scheduled head-to-head against Batman early on -- to change the tenor of their show to fantasy/camp to attract the presumed child audience.
