  • It's a good time to be shopping for a new HD truck. Calendar year 2019 brings us a new RAM 2500/3500, a new Silverado/Sierra and refreshed F-250/F-350 later in the year. At the moment the RAM is the king of the hill with 35,100 pounds of max towing capacity, impeccable driving manners for an HD truck, and quite simply the best interior in the segment, but stay tuned because GM and Ford aren't resting on their laurels...

    It's clear Ram has the best engineering in trucks, 1500 and up. The way they listen to customers along with how they work with the best companies like Cummins, Aisin, Borg Warner...it's clear they are not trying to do everything in-house to save money. Ram is the clear winner.

    Leaf sprung suspensions are cheaper to produce and arguably more durable while requiring little maintenance. Maybe the 3500 is the best set up of all with the leaf springs locating the axles and airbags providing adjustable overload. IMHO.

    I agree with you about it being nice to see RAM allowing a couple key options to be available in the more basic trims. I currently have a 1500 Tradesman and am very happy that even in 2016 RAM didn’t heavily restrict getting some options. RAM seems to respect that people that buy their trucks will be using them as ‘trade vehicles’ so the Tradesman still can be equipped with a lot of the great functionality along with some added features to make them a little nicer. Being able to add the full bag rear suspension to the 2500 Tradesman would be what I’d go for if I were to upgrade from my 1500 EcoDiesel. Thanks for the fully filled out reviews, Alex!!

    Something to note about the 392 in the ram. They used heavy duty parts from top to bottom and adjusted the torque curve so even though the max numbers don't look as impressive, it is built very heavy and receives power the whole way through. The car version of the 392 has 485hp, see the difference.

Both 1st, second and 3rd gens all changed powertrain options and alot of interior changes thoughout its body design but they were always still called the same generation. That was an extremely good review. I must admit that after escaping the General Motors brand of vehicles after many disappointing years I chose Ford. I have been driving Ford for the last 20 years. That said, I am planning on buying a Ram 3500 SRW Laramie 4x4 paired with the Aisin tranny, and I'm excited about it. I do believe I would be happier with the Cummins, and I really like the Ram lineup. I would opt for the 2500, but the Aisin isn't offered for that. I do not know if the Aisin is really better than the 68RFE, yet that's what I am going to buy. Just waiting on some incentives now at the end of the year. Good job on the video.

    @thearchitect817 Před 5 lety +14

    Rams have always had the best interiors in class. They’ve always looked the best on the outside. Mean and menacing in your rear view they certainly make a statement.
    I’m also a Chevy/GMC fan but they’ve fallen far from excellence. The ride quality in both GM and Ford trucks as of the past five years are poor compared to the Rams.
    This truck segment is often like the phone wars. iPhone creates the best new design and every other borrows everything not patented and duplicates with different badging. I’ve driven every variant or the Ford (1500,2500), Chevys SILVERADO(1500, 2500) and Dodge Ram/Ram 1500,2500 from 2015 to 2018 and one things stand out when getting out of one and into another right after. The suspension and interiors. It’s a huge difference especially with higher trim levels. Too many to detail but the Chevys GMCs and Fords ride well, like a truck. Chevys being the worst ride quality overall. The Fords leave question on how the hell are they the best selling trucks? Especially compared to the Ram of late.
    After some investigation it appears that Fords credit company has a very low standard to be accepted for an auto loan. Average credit scores are significantly lower to increase the acceptance ratings. Virtually anyone can be accepted for financing.
    An estimated 23% of all Ford accepted buyers came from other dealerships like GMC RAM Toyota respectively.
    The moniker of the best selling truck is in fact true but cause tremendous pressure for dealerships and Ford finance to push loans through but we find no link to secondary auto loan finance companies Ford dealers go to when declined.
    Ford in fact has the best selling trucks. Ford also in fact has the most defaults on auto loans because of this practice.
    The take away is two things.
    One, if a buyer wants a truck but gets turned down everywhere else because of poor credit then they can simply go to a Ford dealership and voila “Approved” in spite.
    Two, there is a history that shows every time Chevy GMC or Ram make more horsepower or add new tech or makes more torque, Ford comes up with the same things slightly different. It’s the truck wars of course but digging into the nuts and bolts opens up some interesting data.
    As of now the Ford sits in second place to anyone that’s tried the new Ram and GMC third Chevys 4th Toyota’s 5th.
    Never try one before you buy especially when dropping 50-90 large on a truck. You’ll be surprised.
    If you have trouble reading or learning about new things, I understand. For those that value information and learning new things about this subject I understand as well.

    Actually Chrysler paid the government back 4 years ahead of schedule. Not sure about ownership rights but the Government should’ve not bailed out the banks or the automakers.
    I agree completely with that. Ford avoided the bailout in large part to the strong European sales at the time but now the European market is bad and Ford has a bruised reputation there.

    • @M5tworude
      @M5tworude Před 5 lety

      The Architect truthfully, unless you are a PhD in macro economics and significant government experience you are not qualified to make a statement like that. It's an extremely complex situation. But please enlighten us with your qualifications if I am incorrect. I get so sick of people stating their bias based on bs...

    • @thearchitect817
      @thearchitect817 Před 5 lety +1

      There are several flaws in your your statement. Although you can’t be a PhD, you can have one to which I do not. Especially in laughably “Macro engineering” to which is amusing terminology to use on a subject that is public knowledge.
      The bullshit lies in people that instead verifies information stated before making any conclusion.
      In spite of any disagreement the person has to the subject, the information in this case of Chrysler paying the government back in full for the bailout that happened four years early is verifiable.
      In short, your knee jerk reaction to comment without researching it shows your biases for perhaps the corporation itself or you simply may not like Ram trucks. Final point raised is also open knowledge from European personal viewpoints that have risen substantially to a mass overall prejudice for Ford Motor company in general which is reflected in stock shares currently in that region. Due to many factors including mass recalls, poor sales and the market suffering. During the time of the bailout however the euro market was enough to keep Ford from needing the bailout but barely. This has been stated in most Auto news sites like Motortrend, Auto week and I believe even popular mechanics did an article explaining this which makes all of this common knowledge.
      For the idiots just try to google it.
      Our Government should have never bailed out these companies. The Macro economics is sound simply by this. Our government is around for three reasons only. To protect our nation from foreign enemies. Our state governments job is to pave roads and maintain infrastructure through taxation. It is complex because the Government has overextended itself where it never should have been.
      Capitalism and freedoms are afforded inherently and to mix the two with Government is a huge mistake.
      This is in deed a rabbit hole not to be vetted in a forum such as this but in person.
      To that I say you are correct about the complexities involved.
      Your welcome

    Sorry, but you’re wrong about the weight on a class C driver license in California. You can tow 10,000lbs on a class C license. You must have a class A commercial license if you want to tow 10,001lbs or more.
    Only exception is towing an RV.

  • @tacocruiser4238

    you need a commercial license to drive the Ram 3500 in California? Even without towing anything?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 5 lety +1

      no, just if you plan on towing over 10K conventional or 15K 5th wheel. California is actually less restrictive for higher GVWR vehicles than states like Texas. In Texas the 14K GVWR RAM 3500 would leave you with a maximum trailer GVWR of 12,000 pounds vs a max of 15,000 in California.

      @@AAutoBuyersGuide I do not think that is correct, you only need a commercial license if you are charging for a service. If you want to tow a recreation vehicle, then you only need a Class A in CA. Nice video though.
