1. fiction is subjective and may be interpreted in different ways.
2. even carson admits that the stories he told were rumors and gossip. there's no way to verify whether or not what he says is actually true. (for example, nastasia MAY have been a bat that bleck saved from a trap, but that may not have even happened while he was searching for timpani. heck, there's no way to prove whether or not nastasia was a bat in her past life at all. all she says is that she devoted her life to bleck after he saved her, which can really mean anything.)

I just realized that the relationship between Blumiere and Timpani is literally “I can fix him” but it actually worked.

Before things went to hell Blumiere was rather stable
It was after Blumiere 's dad sent tippi away and he opened the dark pronosticus that he went a bit nuts
As long as you don't count them both dying in the end

Seeing regular ass Mario after the first six minutes was jarring, I was so immersed

@@MadWeegee I mean, to be fair, Mario hardly has any impact on the story beyond him saving the day. Like, you could replace him and the rest of the playable cast with totally original characters and hardly anything would be lost. If I have one gripe with SPM, it would be that I wished the story had a bit more to do with the Mario world beyond the main 4 and some enemies.

This is the reason that Super Paper Mario is my favorite Mario game. It wasn't an overcomplicated plot or took itself too seriously, but it had enough of a plot that was spread throughout the game along with a great blend of comedy and heartfelt emotion to portray something that actually felt like an adventure.
It did have some dark moments though.
This really hits the heart really hard. Especially with that song of choice, it really conveys Bleck's tragedy and pain. It’s enough to make my heart stop for a moment.

This animatic is truly a masterpiece, and this Nastasia headcanon is something I could totally accept as canon - I really love her pre-minion design, as Timpani's one, too. As a old SPM fan who still loves the game and its characters, seeing a beautiful work full of heart as this not only makes my day but also makes me feel in love with this game once more. It's honestly a fuzzy feeling for me that the underrated 3rd sibling of the original Paper Mario trilogy is getting more love in recent years by fans🥰. Also that's an adorable interpretation of what Tippi/Timpani would have looked like as a human before she was a pixel butterfly🦋.

This is the definiton of underrated, seriously everything about this is beautiful, the animation is really well done, I like your little spin on the backstory better than the original one tbh, and I love how you slightly emphasized Dimentio's toxic relationship with Bleck, constantly floating around him, observing him in the scene at 5:42 and destroing his spirit near the end of the animation.
And this still does not have more 500k views? Smh

Everyone is the protagonist of their own story, although in this case and without realizing it Blumiere (Count Bleck) ended up being the real protagonist of the game.
Their love story is one of the saddest ever written (even more than Romeo and Juliet).
This animation is an unfairly underrated masterpiece and I don't know if you would like it, but it would be fantastic if you animate it in color one day, I would really appreciate it, I will share this video on my social networks so that more people appreciate your work, thank God that I found this video of my favorite Paper Mario game, simply beautiful animation.
Thanks for the interpretation! I first played this game when I was roughly 5, and then I got stumped after chapter 2. I saw the game in my cabinet in middle school and decided to take another stab at it. At the time, I wasn't really seeing it as an rpg, just more of a platformer with a story. Furthermore, the storyline between the chapters became confusing, as I hadn't really played the game in eight years, and my memory wasn't clear on what happened. After clearing chapter 5, I decided to give up trying to pay attention to the side storyline and focus on the main plot, but that only made the end more confusing. I haven't touched the game since, so this recap really helps! Thanks again!
First off, this is now one of my favorite videos on this platform. It is CRIMINALLY underrated, both it and your channel deserve more attention.
And second off, this made me feel something. And that’s coming from a person who feels emotionally numb a lot. The ending of Super Paper Mario came close to bringing me to tears, which says something as it is beyond rare that a piece of media makes me feel that way. But this just beat that out. It didn’t make me cry, no, but I FELT something while watching this. That’s how you know you did a good job. The expressions, music, just everything is freaking amazing. You should feel beyond proud of yourself for this, keep up the work!
Edit from over a year later: I'm much better with my emotions now and SPM is still peak. God is good!

This… holy shit. I cannot express how much I love this thing. I think one of the best things about this, aside from the animated parts which are SO AMAZING is the wordless story telling. You can tell EXACTLY what’s happening through the visuals alone. You can even kinda imagine what the characters are saying.

Edit: I just wannna compile a list of everything great about this thing
•The expressions in the characters are amazing
•The movements of the characters are amazing especially Dimentio’s
•The animations tend to sync perfectly with the music.
•It’s cool how all of Bleck’s minions were present when Bleck murdered his father.
•At 5:42 is one of my favorite scenes in this. We have Bleck crying who has come to realize that Timpani is gone and he isn’t getting her back any time soon. Nastasia is trying to comfort him. O’Chunks and Mimi are just happily talking, completely oblivious to what is going on and Dimentio is looking back towards the Count. He knows EXACTLY that the Count is lying to him and he is smiling at the Count’s misery.
•Some of the scenes are directly based off moments in the game, of course and you can tell exactly which scene is what if you’ve played the game as much as I have.
•The music is a great choice. It encapsulates all of Bleck’s thoughts. He didn’t want to exist without Timpani. He couldn’t bare to be without her. So his only solution was to destroy himself and everything that took his beloved away from him.
•Your design for Bleck’s father is very nice. His slouch is kind of nice.
•I wanna just say again the expressions and movements are so good. They’re just so amazing.

•Just everything about this. Everything is amazing. It’s perfect.
If only the second instalment was on the horizon. SPM will forever be my favorite of the trilogy, yes I said trilogy as later games simply lost the charm the original three had.

Beautiful work on this animatic! Its so nice to see the Count Bleck and Tippi's backstory in a more clear and visual sense. Also loves that you went with the "show, don't tell" route which makes retelling this story more interesting

this is the third time I've come back to this video in two days... I... can't express enough... I'm not a normally emotional guy, I don't remember when the last time I cried or thought about crying for a fictional character... this made me actually question why I'm not crying right now...

oh my goodness you have no idea how happy i am that someone pointed out design and backstory
timpani in particular had to be a combination of things: inspiration from other designs to make it read as timpani, conventions from how the mario franchise likes to design its princesses, making it *not obvious* that tippi is timpani, making her not a nightmare to animate... balancing all that was a really strange experience, but i ended up with something i really enjoy, and i'm really glad the audience seems to like it too

bro as you can tell by my account name i am an extreme spm fan and i gotta say this is one of the BEST paper mario videos i have ever seen. though it may not align with the actual lore from the game, everything is genius, from nastasia starting off as a young maid for the tribe of darkness and befriending blumiere, later to depart with him when re rebels, as well as the story of how he met each villain, down to the last details of dimentio showing signs of his own agenda, like when they're around the campfire and he's peeking back at the count, who is struggling to deal with his emotions and such. amazing

If you showed this to someone with zero context, I guarantee that they wouldn't even know it was _Mario_ until Peach and Bowser showed up.
And even then they'd probably think these are just a bunch of random angsty OCs.
The only reason Mario and the gang are in this game is to keep it a Paper Mario game. But none of them are the main character. I love the surreal vibe of this game, and as I played it I had to keep reminding myself that I'm playing as Mario characters.

Excellent interpretation of the game's backstory/story. It's awesome seeing Blumiere and Timpani being developped more in depth, gives the whole story a lot of extra immersion and emotion. In only a few scenes, elements like Blumiere's conflicted past before meeting Timpani, his troubled relationship with his father (love his design btw), or Timpani's fear of things not working out are implemented in very natural ways, following an intriguing little story. The head-canons, specifically in regards to Nastasia and her hypnotic glasses, are really enjoyable and add to the story in their own ways. I love the montage of Bleck going around recluting his minions, and then it being reflected with a mirrored montage of Mario & Co. fighting them. The music choice is fitting and goes well with the animation and themes too.
Everything is expertly crafted to give this story a more epic and cinematic feeling. It may be cheesy, but I love it, I can feel the passion that went into this. Having grown up with this game and it being an all-time favorite of mine, it's delightful seeing this much passion and creativity poured into it. Also, that last meme Bleck in the corner for half a second after all the serious stuff made me audibly chuckle, if that's worth anything.

Tears have been shed watching this, it's beautiful
not too far off from what really happened, Count Bleck's story is one of tragedy built from his own father seemingly ending the life of the one Count Bleck loved the most and he fell into deepest despair thinking the world better off gone without the woman he loved alive and by his side doubt plagued him every step of the way and that only grew when he learned of his lost love's survival but believed himself too far gone to immediately give up what he began.
Op this is an absolute beautiful and gorgeous tribute to Super Paper Mario and the love story of Blumiere and Timpani (I hope I spelled their names right) I literally cried for all of this video. Bravo!

Although it is quite late for me to comment from when this was uploaded I just wanted to say thank you for making this beautiful animatic, you did SPM the justice it deserved and I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers it, I grew up with this game and seeing it be put together in art to this degree brought me to my knees halfway through watching it, you're amazing and I hope you and those in the comments are doing well.
