Super Paper Mario Animatic: "The Man I Used to Be"

Well, it’s finally here! It’s been quite a challenge to put this together, but I think it was fun to make, and hopefully enjoyable to watch! Onwards to more animatics, and here’s information that will hopefully pique your interest or answer any questions!
SPM Animatic? Seems like a Count Bleck animatic…: Now some people may be disappointed by the lack of Dimentio and the other minions...but mainly Dimentio because he is the fan favorite. Well, I originally had plans to make another SPM animatic, but instead focusing on the minions instead. The song I chose would also be from the musical “The Count of Monte Cristo,” the song being “A Story Told.” I planned to do that, but I got a bit tired from this one. I’m not interested in doing another SPM animatic right after doing this one. I’m going to put this idea in the archive for either another day in the future, or just not do it because I’m bored by it. Anyways, sorry for any potential misgivings for those who thought that my SPM animatic would include other characters.
HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS???: OH I’M FLATTERED ME WHO IS SHOVING QUESTIONS AND UNNEEDED ANSWER IN YOUR FACE HOLE. I will answer all of this in an upcoming PROGRESS VIDEO!

Okay I’m about two years late, but I’m impressed by how you were eagle to pose this character and give them clear gestures despite not having arms! How were you able to accomplish this?
@@Boom23648 | Ah, the challenges of drawing Count Bleck. I actually sketch out his arms while doing the gestures, and then just draw in the gloves (or at least, imagine where the arms are. i don't remember anymore tbh. it's been a while. I don't do sketch in his arms anymore. At this point, I just draw in hands. :x). I also use pretty expressive hand gestures, so you can read him a bit more easily. Additionally, and probably most importantly, I gave him pretty long "glove sleeves" (the bits of fabric that extend off of the hand portion of the glove), so it'll give the implied illusion of his arms, and where they would be. That's a useful trick for no armed characters :V.

It's literally 2020 now and I still catch up once in awhile. The game turns 13 in April. That's insane holy moly.

Honestly, I was tempted to make an animatic of EVERY MUSICAL NUMBER from the Count of Monte Cristo, but then I realized it would probably take me 3-5 years (unless I make the rest look like total garbage, which I just wouldn't even bother). If there was a community effort to do that, then that would be DOPE. Be super cool.
I'm actually trying to work off of Man on the Internet's Musical Bytes to make a full musical for SPM😁

Is it wrong that this made me cry? I don't know maybe the art with a mix of personal childhood nostalgia for Super paper Mario. And just how pretty it looks! I do have a question though, I'm thinking of trying to make animations sometime in the future, do you have any advice for how to make a clean animatic? Thank you for offering to answer questions!
Sorry this took me so long to reply, but I was just so stupid flattered. No, it's not wrong. I'm really glad that I made the animatic well enough to evoke that feeling! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and it tickled that feeling of nostalgia! Super Paper Mario is just a magnificent game and I had to do it justice.
I'll keep your question in mind, and I'll try to answer it as best I can in my process video! I'm still learning, and I still have no idea what I'm doing, but hopefully something right. Until then, since I don't know when I'll get to it, I suggest you make a small paper booklet for each animation you plan, and label them as such, that ways you can plan and think while you're away from your computer. Use that for the roughs, and then do a more elegant animatic on the computer based on your thoughts that you put in the pamphlet. There's more stuff, but I'll get to that in the other video :D Thanks you so much!

Now this. THIS is incredible. I haven't found many if any super paper mario animatics in forever. I remember first seeing this years ago but I couldn't remember the name- I'm I glad I found this again. You're a talented artist, and this animation really proves it. If you ever plan to make any more animatics for the channel, or have the will to, I'd love to be there and see it.

I do have plans in making animatics in the future, for I have about 3 in the pipeline. However, I'm currently slogging through quite a few long term things that makes me unable to produce more for quite a while, as well as a webcomic, so more in the future, and I plan to make them better (also original), but not any time soon :V

I like how they are a little over the top, dramatic, but somewhat comical. I think that fits Bleck well, the way he talks and all. He's very dramatic, but also comical sometimes (with the whole talking in third person thing and whatnot)

If it peaks your interest, I plan to make animatics every couple of months (2-3 a year if everything goes according to plan) and each one should be better than the last. The next one should be released in a couple of months if I stop being so lazy. Again, thank you!

For once (on a SPM video) I don’t see any of my SPM friends. *You know who you are… I’M LOOKING AT YOU MICHI.* but other then me not being scared for once, (Because I swear to Grambi they follow me) this is so good. The way Bleck looks, his movements, the backgrounds, I LOVE IT. This voice really fits him so well and this is great beyond words. I love SPM, it fuels my Chaotic Heart. This is an amazing animatic. Terrifically drawn. The effective use of shading in addition to the monochromatic color scheme is really nice to look at, and Bleck’s expressions are just so effective at showing his emotions.
Your choice of song for this is also outstanding, and I feel it really fit’s Bleck’s character.

Thank you! Unfortunately, this is the final product. I have little to no experience in animating, and I'm currently working on new projects. I generally don't revisit old projects. The newer projects I'm working on will be a tossup between less frames with prettier visuals and more frames (more animated, but still not quite fluid...probably *shrug*) but less detailed (no colors, shading, etc). Hope you enjoy any new projects I make!
