- Today we're taking a look at one of Mario's greatest foes. One who actually gave him a run for his money, who he couldn't take down alone, who he required major power just to knock down a peg: Dimentio. It’s a whole thing with the story of Super paper Mario -> Sticker star, and there’s varying opinions on whether this was a simple unenforced guideline or a strict rule from higher up, but essentially:
during the development of sticker star, but supposedly Kensuke Tenabe, producer of sticker star, was told not to make any original characters for the paper Mario series going forward, along with other stuff I can’t remember at the moment.
I'm convinced that they can still make original characters, they just have to center on the whole paper theme. I was shocked that Olly was actually an original villain.
It still stings that it can't go back to how it was before.

I love Dimentio, I really do, but his popularity really takes away from the other three of Count Bleck’s crew. Mimi, O’Chunks, and Nastasia are all great characters who don’t get much focus in the fanbase since Dimentio is so… well, Dimentio.
It's like that on the Mario and Luigi side, it's always about Fawful.
Mimi was always my favorite for traumatizing my child brain in the final part of Merlee’s Mansion, but you’re right in saying all of Bleck’s minions are amazing and it hurts me so much we haven’t seen any of them acknowledged or referenced ever. Pretty sure O’Chunks and DK would become fast pals.

Bleck has always been my favorite in the game but Dimentio is still amazing
You should do a video on Tippi and Tiptron. There's plenty of existential nightmares to go over there, especially with Tiptron. I mean, she's fully aware that she isn't the real Tippi, but it's actually a little more nightmarish than that. She isn't just a robotic replacement for a young woman who died at the machinations of the father of another main character, she's a robotic replacement for the degraded physical form of of that tragic young woman. She's a copy of a copy and she knows it, and that sounds like a pretty decent existential crisis right there.
I would love to see that video! I definitely relied on Tiptron for comfort as a Tippi stand-in despite us both knowing it wasn't the same relationship haha. (Yes the ending of SPM did make me cry a bit-)
@@fIorapetals IT'S SO FUCKED, the fact that the player themselves as well as the characters know that Tiptron is just a replacement and that Tippi is never coming back is so incredibly messed up and beautiful and thinking about it makes my heart ache and it's great.

Dimentio was such a cool villain in my opinion and I think Super Paper Mario was very underrated. Glad to see more people talking about him
If I remember, Dimentio wanted to destroy the world and create a new one where he’s basically the god of it. A contrast to Bleck who just wanted everything to be gone.
People rip on Super Paper Mario WAY too much, the pixel queen, Dimentio’s nonchalant mass destruction of entire worlds, unbothered about the lives he’s ending, the fact Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser literally go to hell in this game is so good, the gameplay was so fun as well

He was going to erase all universes and recreate them in his own image. When he was defeated by the heroes, he tried to destroy the entire universe un a final act of spite.

This darn jester-magician-jerk comes in and out of my brain whenever he pleases. I _wish_ I could forget about him, but he thoroughly charmed my stupid little 11-year-old self and proceeded to break my heart with his betrayal.
Watching a playthrough again more recently, obvious twist or not, the scene towards the end where he taunts Bleck about a "Blumiere" is just _perfection._

Dimentio is an awesome villain and very memorable. I'm working on a Minecraft roleplay and I used Dimentio as one of the villains, but my version is not only a traitor, but also the leader of an evil cult that worships an ancient demon. I went all out with Dimentio backstory.
He would be the perfect villain for a movie. Just give the idea that the plants were controlling him then have it revealed he controlled the plants and boom... Perfect story. 😍
Imagine if we got a couple villains for the 2nd Mario movie like Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings, because they want to free Bowser from his cage, (of course they fail in their attempt) as well as Wario & Waluigi being side villains, and we also get to see Yoshi and Daisy during the movie as well.
Also imagine for the 3rd Mario movie we get Dimentio as the villain, where Bowser is finally released from that tiny cage in Peach’s Castle after learning his lesson from being trapped for so long and decides to join Mario, Peach and Tippi after they tell Bowser that Dimentio or maybe Count Bleck kidnapped all of Bowsers children (therefore giving Bowser a higher incentive to join them) the film could give the impression that Count Bleck is the main villain but Dimentio is the real villain, and I imagine Luigi would’ve also been kidnapped but turned into Mr. L, also Count Blecks castle would be somewhere in outer space where we get to see Rosalina who assists Mario, Peach, Tippi & Bowser in finding Count Blecks castle.
Side note: Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy were both released in 2007 which is a cool coincidence.
Also Donkey Kong would go on to have his own spinoff movie where we get to see all of the Kongs, Of course King K. Rool and the Kremlings would be the villains.
How cool would all of that be if that’s what we ended up getting for the future Mario movies from Illumination and Nintendo?

Super Paper Mario is a gem of a game. It might not have the original RPG aspects but the story and the new coat of gameplay sureley makes up for all that 10 fold
Super Paper Mario might not be the best Paper Mario game to some, but for me it will always remain my favorite, and Dimentio is exactly one of those reasons why. Him and Mr. L, whoever that guy might be.
Gameplay wise it might def not be the best PM but the story is unarguably the best PM or Mario story in general EVER

I was expecting the Kirby villain comparison, and I wasn’t disappointed. Great work here. Must be a treat to just have 1 singular plot-heavy game to go over rather than jumping from game to game, trying to piece together personality traits from a handful of voice lines or gameplay mechanics.
As a big fan of King K. Rool, who is probably the poster child for beloved and neglected Nintendo villains, I feel a great swell of pity for the Dimentio folks, even as someone who prefers Fawful.
Dimentio‘s own issues are moreso the fact that he’s in Super Paper Mario. What I mean is that he has no 3D model, his bosses are pretty easy, his role of the final boss is extremely easy compared to the 2 final bosses before it, and because of how Nintendo (Read: Kensuke Tanabe, the developer in charge of the newer PM trilogy) just ignores his singular appearance save for Smash Bros. cameos. SPM’s nature as a very self-contained story with extremely divisive and different gameplay didn’t exactly make it easy for him to come back in another title. To add a silver lining, one can interpret this as Dimentio’s out-of-universe legacy not being tarnished by some phoned-in nostalgia grab “comeback” where he isn’t as engaging or fun. Lots of other long-running franchises try and bring back a fan favorite character and forget what made them good.!
Because Mario+Luigi stuck to it’s formula until the bitter end, Fawful has 3 entire Mario stories where he’s a major player, and 2 MORE stories where he makes a notable appearance.
Screw the Cult of Glitchtrap, the Cult of Dimentio is where it’s at!

I recently saw a comment saying that Dimentio actually secretly won and is the direct reason all the _Paper Mario_ games after _Super_ have been gutted of the charm and originality that made the first two special; as well as the direct reason they are now about literal arts and crafts instead of just having a storybook aesthetic. I have to say this was my first Mario game and I loved it. It has unique and interesting characters and gameplay. Dementio is a underrated Mario villain that should return. But anyways this video was good I want to see more content on this game explaining other characters like Mr. L or Count Bleck.
fun fact about super dimentio: even though hes the final boss of the game(story wise) he doesn't have the MOST HP, shadoo from the flopside pit of 100 trials has that honor with 400 hp while super dimentio only has 250

I always remember how this is the game that shows that when Mario dies, he's going to hell. And that Dimentio is the rare kind of villain who will skip a fight and just kill the hero.

Dimentio was the perfect twist true villain. If you don't pay too much attention the first playthrough, you're surprised to find out that Dimentio is the real final boss. Heck, I was paying attention and was still surprised.

Ah, Dimentio one of the faces of the “chaos clown” archetype with Kefka and Marx before him and Jevil after (also the Joker but he only had cosmic powers that one time) it’s a kind a of character people (especially in this age) like to latch onto. Seeing a silly looking dude with great lines, chucking around reality warping powers, and a sick boss theme is Certainly memorable.
And I would agree that he isn’t the most evil since besides Count Bleck there’s the Shroobs from Partners in Time. Sure they aren’t going to delete or rewrite the multiverse (before movies thought it was cool) but they do some pretty sick things while conquering the mushroom kingdom. Like tying up Toads to tree to drain the live force out of them, and we actually SEE it.
Off topic. I'll never get over just how much this game got away with like it haa e rating. Meanwhile it has some of the most horrific things in the series, death all over the place, dimetito as a whole. And mimis transformation. Like damn game how the hell did ya keep the pure E
Tbh this game is one that has a special place in my heart because my parents and I played through the whole thing as a family (I was like probably 9-10) before they divorced.
So, I mean, lots of happy memories!
I recently replayed it twice in a row, and honestly it still holds up - such a great story. I'm 100% team "Bring Dimentio back to the franchise"
Dimentio is one of, if not my absolute favorite fiction character of all time.
I need Nintendo to bring him back.
Dimentio is a villain that I'd love to see again and would love to fight again, and theoretically they could recycle him for anything because he's the Master of Dimensions, just let him be a multiversal menace and put him in some other random game
His tragic backstory is that his parents were homophobic, and he was a closted gay who has a thing for mustaches. All of this caused deep psychological problems with his self worth which presented itself in behavior which could be viewed as insane, so when he saw Mario and Luigi he got angry at himself which combined with his psychological issues, caused him to snap and engage in radical and manipulative behavior.

Super Paper Mario got me into gaming I don’t know what I’ll do when my wii eventually breaks.

I didn’t know how much I needed a movie featuring Dimentio voiced by John Mulaney until this video. I both love and hate you for this, for it will be stuck in my mind indefinitely. Super Paper Mario is criminally underrated. It had a well-crafted story, a fleshed-out world, and such unique, colorful characters -- with Dimentio the jester-king of them all! The only reason it's not my favorite game in the series is because... well, Thousand Year Door, obviously.
If I remember right the reason why the feel good message at the end is the power to choose your own destiny is because the light prognosticus isn’t actually a prophecy, it’s just advice on how to stop the end of all worlds and May or may not work
This Chaotic puppeteer of a jester will cause so much PTSD should he ever return to life, even if there’s a SPM re-release like TTYD got he’d canonically still be alive because of how much story he still has hidden under the surface of just going through the 8 worlds!

Never forget that the stories for the paper mario and M&L games got gutted in later entries because shigeru miyamoto is a whiny manchild that doesnt want complex stories or original characters that arent already from "the mario universe". That's why you get basically get nothing but toads and koopas apart from the big bad and their 4-5 henchmen
What makes Dimentio a perfect villain is that he is the antithesis to what this game is all about: love
Dimentio is seen emotionally manipulating left and right - to him, love is just something to be abused for personal gain
(after overhearing Nastasia obviously having feelings for Blumiere, no doubt he specifically targets Blumiere instead of Nastasia because he knew she would throw herself into the attack and make her dangerous mind-control ability a non-issue)
*The only thing **_Dimentio_** loves is **_himself._*
He is a cutout psychopath the way he is remorseless, manipulative, charming, dual-faced and without empathy - he only wants to see himself rule the world - truly the best antagonist to a game all about love and understanding.
Dimentio is literally the definition of chaotic evil.
The power of the bardolic fool is immeasurable. The appearance of comedic Relief yet the source of revelation and reason. No one believes the jester actual listens anything said around it, but is fully ware of such goings ane has its own agenda.

I knew this was going to be a gem when NotRealName (NotAtAll? NRNNAA????) said that the Light Prognosticus was just the low calorie version of the Dark Prognosticus. It was really a tour de force.
Whoa whoa.. Mario and Luigi Dream team bros was still a super good game with arguably the BEST soundtrack.
The plot twist and story is absolutely amazing.. It's an underdog story. Luigi and Bowser are the underdogs.. Or Antasma who failed in the end.
The fact that bowser was so paranoid of people betraying him that he betrayed the one and only villian who TRULY wanted to be Bowser's friend is just amazing. Antasma seems like a guy that is a strategist like Fawful but also has a touch Dimentio.. He also wanted the Dream Stone to make his biggest wish come true.. To this day we don't know what this wish is. Maybe to bring back his people.. Because he is the king of bat's but there are no other bat's like him.
He doesn't care about the cool names or shiny entrances like Bowser.. He concentrates straight on the plan.
If Dimentio gets added to ssbu, he'd immediatly become my main.

One thing that's quite disturbing is that throughout the game Dimensio doesn't show all his power, he just wants to show that he's not strong and that he's just a "secondary character" - he's probably stronger than Count Bleck (although he can't beat him because he's invincible).

Yehhhhh I love Dimentio so frickin much. I taught myself just to snap so I can be like and pretend Im blowing things up. Although I think of the main bodies Mimi is my favorite because of the head spin. I was kinda pissed that in the paper mario crossover with MaL that we didn’t get Fawful working with Dimentio because that would have been so much fun ^^

Super Paper Mario is really the end of an era for the Paper Mario series, like, I am seriously convinced that Post-Sticker star is an alternate reality (with worse writing) that's a lot more paper-y than story book-y.
It's so sad how PM is nowadays, I wish we could have the fun RPG gameplay back with amazing stories likes TTYD or SPM had, one of my favorite things about SP is how you lose Tippi and need to buy her replacement who has a constant existential crisis because they know they're a replacement that isn't on par with the real one and it brings them so much dispair.
I will never understand why we are not able to have fun non-gimmicky gameplay (that's not either completely skippable and with no point to it or capable of getting you soft-locked) and good stories anymore, not being able to create original character sucks so hard as well.
Being a PM fan sure bring a lot of heartache, I guess that's why being dissapointed with FNAF's modern story isn't as hurtful anymore
Despite me having no prior experience or in depth knowledge in Mario or any likewise game series Dementio does seem like a really interesting villain, almost like Starscream from Transformers, namely his Transformers: Animated counterpart, where he's still a scheming lieutenant, yet a formidable threat on his own. I personally think Tom Kenny would make a good Voice Actor for Dementio(he actually voiced TF Animated Starscream, and probably could carry over the performance for the most part).
The mario rpg series has some really good and likeable villains, you should definitely check out bowsers inside story. The villains in that game, the Dark Star, and Fawful are cool and likeable characters
Honestly Dimentio would have succeeded if he just killed Blumiere and/or Timpani out right instead of sending them to the pocket dimension, he had all the cards lined up but fumbled at the last possible moment
I believe we might be able to see Dimentio again. Also, the fact that Count Bleck’s popularity isn’t that far behind means that chances are the first thing that would happen would be a port/remake of the original Paper Mario Trilogy which may have expanded content as they usually do to their remakes.
Best examples are the remakes of the Mario & Luigi games. And given that Mario RPG is getting a remake means we get to see Smithy return.
If we’re able to see someone like Smithy again than there’s always hope that we’ll see more fan favorite’s again and while yes its not a brand new game, it’s a sign that Nintendo knows how much they mean to us and said company may not want to squander the chance to bring back what previous customers adore.

As someone who hasnt played paper mario games, this was a really interesting video and made me want to see more of this character
Something I don't think is mentioned very often but I still think is important is that just by interacting with the other minions, it's clear that Dimentio is not someone you should trust at all. You know that's the case when even the other characters are put off by his presence, wary that he may just stab them in the back. Dimentio is pretty much that seedy guy trying to scam you in a dark alleyway.
Probably will keep getting the same treatment as Geno. A lot of fans like the character but has yet to be in another Super Mario game.

My brother played this game A LOT when we were younger, but at that point I was still a bad reader so I couldn’t understand the story that well. I did always love the art and designs though, and Dimentio always stood out to me, and is a character design I think about a lot
For the past few years, it also seems like the popularity of jester characters and designs skyrocketed on the internet, which made me see more of this guy again. I’m happy he’s such a popular character, and I’m glad my brother played this game so much
Dunno a lot about Mario lore, but this is definitely an interesting villain. And rather on-theme I suppose. I quite like his design.

A great video! I'm a sucker for Dimentio content as such it shouldn't come as a surprise i'd immediately latch myself onto any new, ripe content surrounding the self entitled jester.
Yo! I never thought you'd do a video about a Mario character!
Dimentio is one of my favorite Mario villains, he didn't have a motive for wanting a perfect world but him being a master manipulater that played both sides for his own gain was so cool.
I wish they brought Mario villains back more often, he and the Shadow Queen are my favorites.
I'd love it if you'd talk about some Resident Evil characters like Wesker, the Ashfords or Lady Dimitrescu if you're interested.

I think Dimentio’s brainwashing of Luigi is the reason why the latter was deprived of character in Sticker Star and M&L Paper Jam.
Luigi was so traumatized by Dimentio using him as the villain’s final form that he couldn’t talk or even think properly! It took nine years for him to talk again and become his old self once more.
I’m rooting for more videos like this outside of just the usual FNaF/Mascot Horror videos.
I’ve seen time and time again creators get discouraged and disappear because their audiences didn’t approve of them branching out.
Dimentio is evil and a jester type character who is also purple, he is literal fan favourite material
I swear in almost every series (show or game) (especially if it has darker themes underneath) there’s a goofy jester themed character who tends to be evil and is EXTREMELY powerful (take jevil from deltarune, spinel from su, etc etc)
This video made my day! Super Paper Mario is my favorite Paper Mario game and Dimentio is one of if not my favorite villains of all time. Glad to see this game and it’s amazing cast of characters hasn’t been lost to time!

What's so funny about Dimentio is that what you say is so true. He is actually one of my favorite villain characters in super paper Mario (even though I don't like super paper Mario that much) Even though I barely remember much about him until I watched your video. He was definitely one of the few casts in the game I remember besides Mimi and count blec. It's pretty funny 😂
