Mr. L has only made one appearance in Super Paper Mario, where all the characters are small and 2D. I think it would've only made sense to have Mr. L playable in Super Smash Bros. if Paper Mario was playable and Luigi was available as an alt (like Olimar/Alph).

I am p sure Super Paper Mario is the last in the timeline before all the spinoffs, as Peach and Bowser get married in the intro, and the only other way it could be interpreted as not being at that point is if destroying the Chaos Heart annulled their marriage.
Actually, in an interview about BoTW with Miyamoto, he confirmed that every Mario including Paper Mario is 100% the same Mario we all know and love. Just because Paper Jam decided to happen at one point in time, that doesn't automatically de-canonize the Paper Mario games.
I personally headcanon that when the Paper World merges with the real world in Paper Jam. It’s the world from Sticker Star onwards, because that game and games going forward actually acknowledge the world is made of paper. Whilst the original trilogy of Paper Mario games don’t really have an acknowledgement that the world is made of paper, it’s just a paper aesthetic that only the player is aware of
The end part with both Dimentio and the Chaos Heart being destroyed is incorrect. Dimentio did have his game ended but left an echo of his power that would last long enough to destroy all worlds. It took Count Bleck/Blumiere and Tippi/Timphany using their love and the Pure Hearts restored using their love to seal the Chaos Heart once more with the two of them's fate unknown.
You know... BEFORE I found out Luigi was brainwashed, At first, I thought Luigi turned to the dark side because he was tired of his own brother Mario getting all the fame, respect and recognition he gets. Luigi may have some flaws in his hero-side but again... he was brainwashed.
The Paper Mario series always had great storytelling, but Super Paper Mario suffered a bit in its gameplay. It was so different from the first two games that when I replay the Paper Mario games, I usually opt out of replaying this one. Mr. L was a major highlight for sure

I always believed Luigi was the perfect host for the Chaos heart because the heart likes negative emotions and Luigi's one is fear.
Hopefully we get a Luigi character development where he finally steps out of Mario's shadows and becomes his own man.
